So Little King's Story on the Wii was easily one of the better games this generation that unfortunately nobody played, and once rumours got around that it would be receiving a new installment on the Vita it actually made sense for me to purchase the console, unfortunately instead of a New game what we have is essentially the Wii version ported to the handheld system with a smattering of new features and a slightly different storyline. The goal is essentially the same, you are still fighting monsters with your armies and taking their land in order to save the princess, this one however, instead of simply going up against the Kings of the land you are investigating a plot of why your previous castle was stolen.Unfortunately the map is almost exactly like the first games only flipped, no new surprises or terrain to be found (that I've seen thus far) which is slightly disappointing. The gameplay itself is similiar to Nintendo's Pikmin. You take your army, formed via the use of different buildings in your town (that expands as you purchase new buildings and take over more land) and use those to overcome obstacles. Farmers can dig for holes, Carpenters build bridges and stairs to advance further, Grunts do the front line assault and so on. Much like in Pikmin your followers will be too happy to assist, throwing themselves in front of enemies as you command, sacrificing them in your duty. But of course you'll have to be careful on what you take with you. You COULD take an army of just grunts, but what if you come across a bridge that needs to be built? Or a tree that needs to be chopped? Deciding on what you take with you is key to the adventure.Control wise is where the game seems to flounder. I found some of the controls difficult to get to grips with and the fact that its seemingly impossible to just disband your units is annoying in the least when you pick up a carefree child whom cannot be used for a new job. Also is the aiming, a lot of times I've lost a more expensive unit because when trying to upgrade a different character they ran into the side of a door yet the second unit managed to upgrade. Its pretty annoying to say the least. Also later in the game when you are managing a higher amount of units you'll scream as you cycle past the ones you wish to use and leave half of your army open for an attack. Some nice new features is an Alchemy System, able to create new items from your older ones, and the ability to equip new items too. Also the option to bring a princess along with you can have a variety of benefits. Also the option to eventually marry the princessess is a welcome replayabilty touch.Overall the game is great, its essentially the same game released on the Wii a few years back so its hard not to love. Unfortunately it's also its downfall since we really could have had a new game from scratch. It's an essential game to own for the Vita (possibly the only one at this point.) and well worth picking up.

I've played this for over 40 hours and have loved every minute. Once you've finished there isn't much replay value unless you're after a platinum - but that is fine as I completed the game without getting bored and had a lot of fun with it. I didn't bother with the alchemy as that was very hit and miss and took too long but everything else was spot on. A well thought out engaging, addictive and fun game.

I'm a huge fan of the Vita, and actually consider New Little King's Story to be one of the very best games available. Lovingly created, vast, addictive and enormous fun. Big, big fan. I consider this a largely overlooked gem. Strongly recommend. Belter.

as a fan of the original game that came out on the wii, i wanted to see if this version is as good. it has the same gameplay as the original with improved graphics and easier to master controls.

One of my favourite games on the vita. You take charge of your people and help to rebuild your kingdom. It takes time to master but we'll worth the time.
