This "Cheaters Edition" Monopoly is a big hit with my wife, mainly because "It's the only time I've ever beaten you at Monopoly". I approached the game with some healthy skepticism, but soon found myself thoroughly enjoying it.The game has a few variations on the standard Monopoly rules, making things a little simpler and faster.Firstly, whilst most of the usual properties are present and correct, the stations are now warp points instead of properties, and you move to the next station when you land on them. A nice touch. Additionally there are some pricing changes: There's a free property, another that comes with a free hotel, and yet another pitched at half price. The "Community Chest" and "Chance" cards have seen some changes too,so as well as the classic "Go to Jail" and "Get Out of Jail Free" cards, there's a "Celebrity" card to reverse the rent paid, when landing on a property. So if you land on someone else's property while holding the card, they have to pay you to stay there. There are cards to halve the rent paid until the landlord pays to renovate the property, as well as a good selection of other, well chosen cards. Hasbro have done a good job freshening up the game, without losing the core of Monopoly in the process.Additionally, when a player is sent to jail, they must wear a handcuff, which is a great idea. There's a neat twist to the cheater's edition, in that you are rewarded for cheating, according to one of five cheat cards set out on the board. Payers are encouraged to steal property, move other players pieces, take extra money from the bank, remove the handcuff or one of a variety of other little cheats. If caught cheating by another player, the cheater must pay a forfeit fine. If the cheater gets away with the cheat, they get a reward. If falsely accused of cheating, the false accuser takes a forfeit. I thought this aspect of the game would spoil Monoply, but I have to admit it actually adds to the fun, and actually incorporates a lot of the informal dodgy behaviour I've seen playing regular Monopoly at home, into the game rules. Put simply, it all gels together beautifully!Play time is a little shorter than usual Monopoly, with a two player game being able to be over in as little as half an hour, if luck is not on your side. (Much to my wife's delight.) I think that's actually a core part of the fun of this Cheaters Edition version of Monopoly, it's weighted a little more to be affected by luck than regular Monopoly, and benefits from it.The property cards are smaller than usual as they are arrayed around the edge of the board, and the notes have a unique "Shhh!" Cheaters Edition design for Rich Uncle Pennybags featured on each note. The character pieces are nicely detailed and well finished, and the dice are weighty and satisfying to use. The board is sturdy and nicely printed and the only gripe I've got about the game is that the storage options for all the bits could be a little better. Even the price is right, at a whisker under £20.All in all, this is an excellent evolution of a classic game, and arguably more fun than the original Monopoly. The shorter playing time makes it more of a game to pick up and have a go, rather than the commitment of time regular Monopoly can be, and the cheating adds to the fun. Highly recommended!

This isn't Monopoly as you know it! I have compared this game to the full version as something akin to the difference between 20/20 cricket and a full test match. Basically this is a much more interactive game and, unlike the original, the first player who succeeds in getting one set does not nearly always win.Out of the box you receive a board, the voice banking module, a set of property cards, 4 player pieces (not 6) and hotels and houses. 4 players is not the only change. This game has been designed to be much quicker and at first, we thought that it would not be as entertaining. How wrong can you be. So what is different?+. Only two properties per set for a start, unlike the traditional games where it is only the Mayfair/Old Kent combination which is two properties and the rest three.+. You only have to buy a house before you purchase a hotel, not 4.+. Community chest has been consigned to the bin, you only have chance now -similar with utilities. The stations remain, but now, via the voice controller, when you land on a "station" you simply get told to move to a different location+. in place of the utilities, you now get exchange care. Land on this square, pay $100 dollars and you can exchange one of your property cards for someone else's; even if they don't want to. Straight swap if you wish, Old Kent for Mayfair!! This livens up the game and removes the option for the gloating relative, who hoards all the properties and both spoils and prolongs the game to be forced to release properties.Game play is much simpler and thankfully over quicker now.So what about the voice banking. Well you have to play it in a quiet environment in order for the voice recognition to work properly. We found that the module recognised our commands over 90% of the time and if not, we pressed the reset button and gave the command again. It really is very good and kept a tally of our financial state, our bank balances etc - even declaring the winner when someone iOS made bankrupt. It is questionable as to whether this is a better game than the original board game, personally, as the difficult relative who generally hoards the properties and makes everyone's life hell, I am not sure, for everyone else, it is far better and particularly younger children, who having failed to secure a property empire in 20 minutes or less go off and sulk. Now they are engaged much more and even when losing, enjoy the game much more. Not necessarily better then than the original, but our family really enjoys playing it.

In my opinion, for every one really good board game, there are 20 pretty rubbish ones.Monopoly is probably the best known, and best loved of all time, so a new version has a lot to look up to.Initially, my thoughts were why? Why mess around with something that is as good today as it was when I was a small child playing it? I still think it’s brilliant! Of course it is Hasbro, so you would generally expect it to be well made and presented – it is.So then, in many respects this is a kind of cut down version, with less properties etc. It doesn’t take long to get your head round the Mr Banker voice activated banker – that deals with all transactions, and keeps check of everything, and deals with things like chance etc. To be fair it works pretty well.Returning to the theme of why?, one advantage is that there are a lot less things to lose (money / chance / community chest cards etc.), so makes it easier to set up and put away, and means a smaller game footprint is needed. There is also, I guess, the novelty aspect, that perhaps might appeal to today’s more sophisticated children who may take better to this than the traditional version. The colour / font / design is bright and colourful, and really attractive, so that’s a definite plus, and the game is still along the lines of the original, with a few differences, and all in all this is pretty good. There is demo video (link on the box) that shows you how to play the basics, and obviously an included instructions booklet is in the box. There are also easy reference cards for voice actions (one for each player) which is a nice touch.Verdict: A great game, lots of fun, far better than most of the churned out rubbish, BUT – is it as good as the original / traditional version? In my view, no. I would play the original over this one every time. However, I’m sure others may well disagree, especially perhaps youngsters, and it wouldn’t be fair to rate it a bit less because of that. It’s still great, and the voice activate Mr Banker is pretty cool anyway.

**at time of this review, I had asked family members their views and points as well. Now is the time to tell you about Monopoly Cheaters Edition. I havent been too excited about this game in comparison to others of the Monopoly family. It was my 18yr old son that mentioned it as a Christmas present. So we saw the adverts, looked at the reviews and bought it.So, its Monopoly with permissions. You can steal from the bank, each other etc. There are handcuffs that will either fit or not fit your wrist. Its nice that the chance cards and community chest cards have different "missions" now and the gameboard layout is good.It has a modernised feel to it.We struggled to have 4 people sitting around it with their properties and money laid out in a manner that allows people to steal them as well as having to move the box around to each person for their turn. Just not the room and that really made it awkward if you had a mission to steal something from someone. The other disappointing factor is that once all the properties are bought the game ends. So to make money to buy hotels is hard. The best aspect of the game was watching people trying to and not trying to cheat. we had more fun accusing each other of cheating and paying the consequences if they hadnt of cheated. For a laugh, its a good game. for serious Monopoly players, I feel they would be quite disappointed with this Edition

My husband and I are big fans of the original Monopoly game and have played it many times. This new version is good and does not take as much space as the original as this one uses an electronic top hat interactive banking machine. The board has 1 less property per coloured property section, e.g pink properties on the original only have 2 properties on this one. There is no paper money as the machine is used instead. When we play Monopoly we tend not to have any background noise so for two adults this game was good, but we did have the occasional problem when using the machine. My husband has a strong local accent so he had to make more of an effort to speak clearly.I tend to speak quickly and again this caused the machine problems. The game does not take as long to play as the original one, that can take several hours.Overall this was a good game, that does have a few problems with the interactive machine, but its okay if we speak clearly and slowly. The playing pieces do not feel as good a quality as the original ones and there are less individual playing pieces. I think my husband and I both agree that we do prefer the original but that is because we have played that version so many times. I do think that it would be good for those new to the game though.

Played this a few times now (easily done seeing that the game time is so short) and I must say that I've found it an enjoyable alternative to the original classic game. The packaging seems a little large for the few items inside the box and the four playing pieces seem 'cheap'. The board itself is good quality and thick so should last a long time unfolding and folding it each time of play. I like the timer (you'll need to buy 3 x AAA batteries as these are not supplied in the box) which keeps the players 'on time' as to each stage of the very fast gameplay and once the easily learned rules are learned its a doddle to get straight into the action and yes, its all over and winner declared in 10 minutes! As for game-play longevity, this will be brought out occasionally as a fun alternative which can be easily enjoyed by all age ranges when time might not be so available to play the full original game - but, in the long run, it is just what I've called it, it's a novelty which won't ever replace the original. Add it to your Monopoly collection and bring it out once in a while when friends and family want to play something a little 'different' and you'll find that it was definitely twenty quid well spent.

I bought this as my teenagers love Monopoly and I thought this would be something they would enjoy but was a different take on the main game. The aim of the game is very similar to the normal Monopoly but you have cheat cards and everyone playing at some point tries to get away with cheating. If you succeed you are rewarded, get caught and you have to put the handcuffs on - beware one of the cheat cards is to get out of the handcuffs without others seeing so make sure the player with the on keeps their hands on the table.Talking about the handcuffs, by the third time we played we were fed up of putting them on and removed the cheat card for them and left them in the box.The game is okay but I don't know where it was because we are all super vigilant, there were only four of us playing or what but no-one got away with cheating, plus with five cheats at anyone time to remember, everyone kept on forgetting what was written on the cards and spend a lot of time going over them again. The lads have now gone back to playing the normal version and this one has been sat in the cupboard for the last few months untouched.A novelty in my house but it didn't last and the original is preferred.

Playing this game on Saturday night with my wife and 11-year-old son I was transported back to my childhood Christmases. Monopoly only seemed to be a game we played at Christmas with various relatives we wouldn't see until the following Christmas. There have been some updates. The board now folds in quarters rather than in half like the old board did. Everything else is as it should be, although the currency symbol M rather than the familiar £ makes an appearance in the new version. There are also a new mixture of playing tokens, so if you don't want to be a racing car or a top hat, you can be a penguin. Each to their own.I did miss the boot and the iron though.A reason for playing this is to make our son more savvy with money and the game certainly helped with that. Funnily, I get very competitive when I start playing this so it wasn't long before I was charging my son massive rents for landing on Mayfair! Oh, what fun!We had such a good time playing it that my son insisted on playing every night for a week!Although I've now managed to ween him off it, I'm looking forward to Christmas already!

I thought there is no way you can play Monopoly in 10 mins, but you cna and you will! This is a timed game, everyone plays at once! You get a playing piece and a dice each. The game is complete in 4 rounds. You start playing when you press the timer and it counts down. The first stage is a buying phase, where everyone rolls their die and moves, buying properties they land on if they want to. This stage gets shorter as the game goes on. Then its the trading phase. This stage gets longer as the game goes on. Obviously this stage is the one where players can buy and sell stuff to complete sets. Then the first round is over. These are repeated three more times (time dictated by the timer),making 4 rounds in total, then the game is over. Everyone counts up what they have and the one with the most wins. The best thing is its good for short attention spans. Also there are no houses and hotels to complicate things. If you run out of money you carry on playing, just collect cash when you pass go! The property cards are laid out around the game and the money is in the middle. There is no banker!

We have played this all over Christmas as a family and we're still not bored. One of the things about monopoly is that the money is a pain and the cards hanging about the board are also a pain. This version of the game takes all of the hassle out of the game and allows you enjoy just playing! In the middle of the board is a simplified Alexa-type module that responds to voices and prompts. You move around the board as is traditional with dice and a character, but according to what you land on, you press the appropriate character button and for e.g. buy property or chance card, or pay rent. The module keeps a tally of all your money, property, houses etc.Cheating is not possible and we found the game so much more fun.The board itself is more simplified than it used to be (but it's not just this version, monopoly seems to have done this to all new editions) in that each suit of properties is only two not three and community chest has gone, just leaving chance cards.I can't recommend this version of the game highly enough and the price is very fair.

Our family loves monopoly for family games nights, and we're proud owners of various editions, and this has fast become one of our favourites, the aims are different, so it seems like less of a themed version of the usual game and more of a new game! Be warned, things can get loud in this game! The aim is to cheat and get away with it without being caught, and several rule changes have occurred in this edition. It's much shorter than the original game as the aim is for all the properties on the board to be owned and the game finishes there with the winner being the player with the most money/assets. If you don't have all night to play, this is probably the better option for you.The chance cards and community chests have a number of twists now and there's fewer properties to be owned on the board with the stations no longer being able to be owned and the obvious absence of the waterworks and electric. All in all though it's a fun filled version where the players need to be more on the ball than ever!

You can’t go wrong with monopoly! My kids were very happy to see this new version arrive as ours is very battered and bashed after being well loved over the years. This new version is the same classic game with no differences in play, but gas new counters with some of the less popular ones being upgraded to ones that are more modern and relevant (goodbye to the iron and the boot, hello to a penguin, duck and dinosaur!) some of the more popular classic counters are still remaining like the dog and the car, so it’s a good mix.The shape of the box is also more square whereas our old one was a long rectangle. This fits better on the shelves, so is an improvement. If you don’t yet have a monopoly for your family,I’d definitely recommend it as a game that suits all the generations. My kids get so excited to play it together with grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles but also they can play it among themselves and it keeps them busy for a long time! It’s a must for your game cupboard

Hasbro Gaming – MONOPOLYTo get out the Monopoly set on a cosy family evening, is to take most of us back to our childhood. This is a well presented UK Version of the classic Monopoly board game. There are the well known British Roads, Utilities, and Properties etc. with a mix of new and original tokens. The layout of the board is the same as the original. The box is nice and sturdy so should keep the game and all it's components in good order.Designed to be played by a minimum of two players and a maximum of eight, it gives the game flexibility. It is a great game for Mums and Dads to play with their children, to teach their young ones numeracy and decision making.Interaction and competitiveness is all part of the learning process, and a board game is more sociable than being glued to phones, tablets and computer games.A great classic game that has never gone away, and which has been enjoyed by families and friends down through the ages.

Bought as a present for a 15 year old who likes Monopoly but doesn’t have hours to spend playing it. This ends all those family arguments over who’s banker, how many more hours until we stop, who’s actually won and who cheated. Well, maybe not the last one but certainly the rest. Simple concept of everything costing the same, everyone plays at once, two “go” squares and no jail. As it’s against the clock it’s quick, fun and far more painless than the traditional version. If you use your own timer and extend the rounds a bit, it would actually be good for younger children as it’s much simpler. Took a goes at reading the rules to understand it but once we understood the trading part it was verysimple to pick up.As for who cheated - everyone is so engrossed in buying property and rolling their dice in the buying stage, it is impossible to watch what others are doing so there is still chance for someone to start that argument...

I think this is great value for money for around the £20 price range. It’s a classic game that we introduced to a 9 year old who loved it. From an educational point of view it was great for numeracy. Monopoly requires limited strategy so it’s a great family game in the sense that young children can play it. I think the 8+ rating for age is about right. You can get more expensive versions of monopoly that are better made but this is your standard UK version and it does the job fine. It boasts that it has a new token line up. Of the 8 tokens only the car, dog and hat remain from my childhood. It’s a nice touch changing the tokens but keeping some of the older ones. This is the classic version of the game and the contents of the box will be familiar to older generations who played it in their childhood. We’ve tried variations of it such as the millionaire version but can’t help thinking that the original is the best!
