Vetiver, a gorgeous resinous, smokey herbal grass root is more of an afterthought in female perfumery, it is often a dab here to add some earthiness and is used more often in men's fragrance, Miller Harris takes the best quality from Haiti (they all smell unique) of this masculine note and turns it unisex and even feminine in places but it's very subjective. I would highly recommend seeking out a sample to be sure.Vetiver Insolent opens with smokey punchy spicy powdery tone from the Vetiver which has a nostalgic scent reminiscent of when as a child in the summer you would pull clumps of grass from the parched soil revealing the sun toasted roots and the wafting scent of exposed roots. This then is accentuated by a punch of 'Christmassy'fire-like spices from the black pepper and heavy use of cardamon with a slight tang from the citrus bergamot. As the spices settle the scent turns airy sweet-smokey incense from the Elemi (what others are smelling as sandalwood) creating images of resinous precious woods offered to the heavens along with a warmth and slight sweetness from the tonka and then there is a leather-jacket and herbals note from the iris, lavender and moss sifting through giving it an edge taking it away from the 'hippy' direction.Fantastic sillage it bellows your arrival, you will be detected so it is not for the faint hearted, and lingers for hours making the bottle last for ages as you only need a teeny spray to make an impact. It's smells incredibly sexy on my husband who tends to smell good in woody-smokey scents anyway but surprisingly I love it despite being a floral-gourmand girl normally. It has a sexiness and depth that is utterly enchanting and it does take a bit of a fire and Christmas puddings sweetened by the 'dirty vanilla' tonka note on me which is like a warm comfort as the evenings lengthen and days turn colder.Absolutely captivating and I can't decide whether it's better to smell on my hubby or enjoy myself!!

This was my first Miller Harris scent and the reality definitely lives up to the reputation. The packaging is nice; sophisticated with a muted colour palette and a matte box. The glass bottle is substantial and the metal cap is lovely and weighty in the hand (yes, I am a weird connoisseur of luxury products but I do like and appreciate these almost unnoticeable little touches).Ok, on to the important stuff – this smells divine. I didn't know what vetiver was, and it's definitely a peppery, spicy, earthy sort of scent. As women's fragrances go, this is definitely towards the unisex end, but it's also got a really nice sexy warmth to it that prevents it from being too masculine a scent.Wears extremely well and still smells delicious hours after being applied. In fact, I probably like how it fades the best and it really came into its own about twenty minutes after I put it on first. There's something slightly reminiscent of sandalwood about it, except less hippie and with more depth. Maybe a bit of spice, like cardamom or black pepper? You often can't tell what a scent will be like before you try it on, but the thing I really like with Miller Harris is the ability to layer one scent with others, and the description gives a number of suggestions that I'd be keen to try. I think this could be a great base for something rich and floral. However, I really do love it on its own.

I really like this. It's a perfume that is ideal for those who don't like the more floral, sweet scents, but prefer a more unisex scent that isn't overwhelmingly 'girly'.My favourite scent ever since it came on the market has been Calvin Klein's CKOne, which was marketed as the first unisex scent.Miller Harris' Vetivert Insolent Eau de Parfum is very much in that line. How a scent smells varies with the individual of course, but on me, Vetivert Insolent is initially spicy, woody, warm and a bit 'leathery', but not deeply masculine, more a new handbag smell than tweed and leather patches. After a few hours of wear the spicy, woody notes become distinctly woodsmoky, a typical vetiver smell,it's an unusual and not unattractive scent that I really like.It strikes me as quite an autumnal/winter perfume, rather than a spring or summer perfume, whilst not heavy in any way like Poison or Opium for example, it does have notes that just aren't summery.Vetiver oil itself is produced from the root of the vetiver grass, which is described as having a woody, smoky, earthy odour and those are exactly the smells reproduced here.Quite where the insolence in the Vetiver Insolent comes from, I'm not sure. It's not a daring perfume, but it is lovely.

I have to say, I was unsure when I ordered a bottle of Miller Harris Vetivert Insolent Eau de Parfum whether it was a male or female perfume, or perhaps unisex, especially as it is listed in both male and female categories. However, having tried it on myself, I rather liked the fragrance and, when I asked my wife, she liked it on me too. We both felt the fragrance was more masculine than feminine.Just to be sure, I wore it again when going to a mixed gender meeting of friends, and canvassed opinion. Everybody liked it and the majority opinion was that it was a male perfume.Whatever the target gender, I like the smoky, spicy fragrance.

I really love this new perfume from Miller Harris. It is not too flowery, which I don't really like, but much more robust and substantial. It has spicy, woody top notes, and after a while the beautiful vetivert notes come through. This is a grassy, smokey and earthy aroma which is very appealing. I find it to have a very calming and tranquil quality, perfect for colder autumn days I think. This is eau de parfum so you only need a few drops to last for hours. My favourite perfume is Eau d'Issy and this has very similar qualities. I really love it either for day or evening wear. Very classy

Fresh, Multi-Layered for definite. My wife has been smelling this for a few mintues now and she keeps picking up hints of all sorts of things. She did say it was very strong and was definately one for the evening. She noticed straight away that is wasn't a run of the mill perfume as she said it didn't smell anything like the usual mass marketed perfumes. She did really like it but the smell was entirely ellusive. This is the sort of perfume on an evening out you're going to get asked a lot of questions so bet bone up on your aromatic notes :)

Much stronger perfume than I expected. Masculinity of Vetiver pushed this towards thois being a unisex scent rather than a feminine fragrance. Reach and longetivity was a little startling for my colleagues who I enlisted as volunteers. It launches itesl all around the room and leaves everyone stunned. Defintely a scent for the confident and extrovert. Male or female and definitely a night or party fragrance rather than a work or day fragrance. Not offensive in any way but not a background smell. This will attract attention!

Although this is an Eau de Parfum, the scent works for both sexes. It is a woody, spicy fragance with a hint of citrus going on, not at all flowery and this makes it wearable for both women and men. My only negative is that the scent doesn't last for long, it disappears within 2 or 3 hours, I would expect it to last longer than it does.Elegantly packaged and it is a large bottle, so as a gift it has some impact. However, I do think it is overpriced at £95.00, certainly not for those whose budgets are stretched.

This was the first time "She who must be obayed" aka the wife, tried this perfume by Millar Harris. At first she thought the scent was a little overpowering (reminded her of old books) but it settled down after a few minutes and she actually liked the smell. I have to say I found the smell nice and pleasent. As other reviewers have pointed out the price is rather high. Saying that because of the strength of the scent you only need a few drops which last for most of the day.

I love this as its highly fresh & invigorating. My favourite scents are citrus & the summer fresh scents. This is somewhat masculine & I find it a bit similar to Weekend by Burnerry (but this one is sharper).i find although it is eau de parfum & more concentrated than eau de toilette, plus it's not a brand I recognise, i think it's somewhat expansive & over-priced. (Hence one star lost). It has good staying power as it is eau de parfum.

This is amazing for men, I haven’t met one woman who didn’t instantly love it. I would say it’s a 30+ scent. It’s an absolute keeper and like the rest of the Miller Harris range it’s superb quality. Also recommended Etui Noir, which is more of a smokey finish. Some aftershaves hit my asthma or I find a bit itchy but no such issues with MH scents and you can tell they are well made without that synthetic finish.

This is rich, warm and spicy with woody undertones. This is quite a masculine scent (no florals or citrus bits that i could detect) but as such very modern, very powerful.I love this as it is very grown up and a good day time scent that can carry on to the evening. This is autumn, this is winter.

One of the best perfumes ever! The smell is fresh and lasts ages on the skin. Beautiful cardamom and pepper hints! And the bergamot shines through. Highly recommend!

Lasts and lasts on my very unpredictable skin type - so glad I discovered this one and it'll be a keeper for me! Highly recommended!
