Poirier d'un Soir is meant to capture the 'uncapturable' that is the scent of pear fruit and wood, a plant notorious in perfumery for not yielding any usable oils and chemical attempts can be a bit 'pear drops'. This is utterly evocative of a pear orchard after a warm late summer-early Autumn day in the dusk.On first spritz you get baked pears and spun sugar along with the creamy fizz of prosecco and overripe sweet grapes and you think you're getting a gourmand type fragrance until spicy seeds start to pop and emerge along with a crackle of resinous animalic patchouli smoke musk making it a grown up scent and more unisex. As time goes by soft woods start to drift in like sweet incense smoke with a dominance of cedar for me,these aren't too masculine but give an edge to the fragrance that still sweetly combines to reimagine inhaling the scent of a juicy ripe pear freshly picked from the tree.Further time passes and honey-caramel and rum notes start to warm and sweeten the woods along with an airy citrus note and a tumbling of petals with peony dominating in my nose.Miller Harris perfumes are notoriously subjective and will smell different on different skins, the above is based on an experience both on a tester strip and my skin. For me the lingering scent on my dry skin is honeyed orchard fruits with a sweet smoke of softwoods dominated by cedar and a very gentle hint of patchouli, utterly different from the usual vanilla dominated gourmands I tend to wear in the day. This seems perfect for the late summer- early autumn, Apple and pear harvesting time with the sticky honey smell of windfalls and smoke as wood burners start to be used. In all its utter perfection for me but will smell different on different skin chemistry so I highly recommend trying a sample before committing.Miller Harris is fast becoming my favourite perfume house, not that they are affordable, but I am thinking after experiencing this perfume that perhaps an occasional investment bottle is well worth it for the experience and standing out plus the sillage and longevity from the eau de Parfum means it lasts and you use far less than you would of an eau de toilette.

Do not be fooled by the understated packaging and the simple lines of its perfume bottle, for I believe the fragrance sells itself. This rather fetching, uplifting and refreshing fragrance, which captures the essence of a “Mediterranean garden”; while I appreciate that, the product summary talks about English walled garden - this is my take. When my partner and I smelt this fragrance, it reminded us of the Mediterranean region. This is an Eau de Parfum, which has a combination of essential oils and plant extracts amongst other select ingredients. The overwhelming notes that come through are certain smokiness and a rather pungent Bergamot. There are probably other subtle notes here, but my olfactory senses are not up to the job, or maybe frequent “sniffs” at different times of day and different temperatures may yield the finer points to this fragrance. At the time of writing this review, in London, we have been blessed with very hot weather at present and I am sure the evaporation rate, of the fragrance, is higher than normal, and hence we are getting the full on scent experience. What is interesting is that, given the hot weather, this Eau de Parfum has real longevity. for my partner only used a small dab here and there on her blouse - yet this lovely floral fragrance seems to last most of a working day. This Eau de Parfum by Miller Harris brand is a real winner and is worth sampling at the very least.

The outer packaging of this perfume isn't really my cup of tea; it features black botanical drawings and a stylised bird against a light olive background, with the perfume name in a shiny copper script font. It is reminiscent of later Art Deco, though, and it is quite appropriate to the scent. The bottle is a very simple shape, embossed with botanical sketches in white. That did appeal to me, and it's easy to handle. The lid fits closely so there's no danger of spillage.Of course the most important thing is the perfume. I liked it a lot; I found it pleasant and light, not overly sweet or overpowering. I picked up a delicate fruity note as it warmed on the skin, and a very light woody overtone.I would be happy with this scent myself. My mother, who is a pensioner, liked it too but thought it a little too light for her. My teenage daughter, on the other hand, found it a little cloying (but she does have hypersensitivity to smells). She said it would be a great perfume for an evening out with friends, but a bit too much for a date. Still, all three generations agreed it was a very enjoyable scent and would be delighted with it as a gift.

Gosh this is a very complex scent to describe. At first it is a real mix of Woody Cedar and pepper. My first thoughts were that this is far too masculine for me. However after about 20 minutes days the woody forest smells soften down and you do get the smell of ripe fruit, and cardamom. It's a very sexy sent and even remind me of warm skin. This gets more delicious over the next hour and throughout the day.Others notice that this but nobody can quite put their finger on a description of this perfume, as it's unlike any other I have smelt before. These fragrances smell as though only natural oils have been used in their composition. It's been on for one hour now and I can smell a fresh smell of a wet Forest. The smell of blackcurrant is just starting to come through now, as well as wafts of vanilla.I really do think this is a very androgynous smell that can be worn by men or women. It's a highly sophisticated sent and I don't think that everybody could carry this off. This is a fragrance for a woman that has a powerful aura, and means business.I love this scent and we'll so much enjoy wearing it.

Firstly this is most certainly a scent to suit a woman more than a man, it is gender neutral, however it has to myself and others I've exposed it to, always been with more of a floral feminine overtone. The plane, simple box gives us another plane, but heavy in the hand bottle, the black plastic gloss lid pulls away and you can apply the scent easily. The scent itself is a light, lasting smell, as your skin warms you get a new infusion of the scent released, the best application method we found was to apply directly to neck and wrists, and then to spray into the air and walk through a small cloud of it.As you remove your coat,a fresh scent wave is let loose and we had positive comments and many requests what the new scent was.Going from a cool outside to a warm inside also released the scent and it lasted a good three hours to four hours. I'd suggest carrying the smaller bottle in a hand-bag as a top-up if you were out all night. But saying that too much might be too sickly, the scent is delicate and to overwhelm by pouring it on is just self-defeating.

This is very nice, very nice indeed. It has a smell that is not overpowering but is long lasting, as it's unisex I tried a bit before my dear wife grabbed it never to be seen again and it really did cling to me. The smell is spicy but has touches of a kind of citric element to it which prevents it from being too one or the other, they both have a delightful merging effect that produces an aroma that is cool, pleasant and easy to wear.I went into work and one of my colleagues asked what it was within an hour of my turning up so it's certainly noticeable. The bottle is light and easy to carry in handbags or even pockets if you so desire and it is spray operated with an automatic shut off, believe me one spray either side of the face is all you'll need. The only downside with it is the packaging, I though it had been welded shut it was that difficult to get it open but as that's not a part of the main product itself I'll not remove any star ratings for it.Great stuff!

Described as a perfume aimed at both men and women, this is an interesting combination of scents that I would place as more suitable for evening than day as it is on the heavy side. Whether it smells of a pear orchard at night I honestly couldn't say but it does remind me of the early evening when you notice flowers smell more strongly, enveloping you in a punchy aroma that is sweeter than anything you get at the height of the day. There is definitely a fruity sweetness to the scent more than a floral tone so I can see it appealing to both males and females. The packaging is minimal yet appealing; a cellophane wrapped box with card sleeve, decorated with line drawings of flowers and birds. The scent itself is packaged in a chunky glass bottle, itself decorated with line drawings of flowers and with a spray dispenser. It doesn't disappoint given the rrp of the product. It is a nice scent that is also well presented in a weighty bottle and unlikely to disappoint.

This is an engaging and adventurous scent, a sophisticated and lasting eau de parfum that takes you on a bit of a journey. The initial scent is as the title suggests, pears. This is the sweetest note of the journey. It's fresh and heady and sweet and, to my nose, the least suitable part of the unisex fragrance claim - it would be a little on the floral side for many men I think. After about half an hour this gives way to a richer, more diffuse musky scent that is perfect for a unisex fragrance and really quite intriguing. There's a hint of bitterness in with the sweet muskiness and it is utterly scrumptious. This lasts and lasts - a good 3 hours on my skin and to my nose - before any re-application need be considered. This exudes quality and class, and I love it. If you're looking for something different, rich and intriguing, go for it. I would say more suitable for women, but these things are very subjective. Enjoy!

With so many perfumes to choose from why should anyone go for this? The answer is simple, the fragrance from this is both fresh and appealing. It has a very fresh outdoorsy smell which lasts quite well. Obviously I can only give my opinion on what this smells like on my wife - and she loves it as I do too. I think this will appeal move to older rather than younger women. The subtle perfume I feel is geared more towards fresh elegance and lightness and not powerful over the top ones that seem to flood the market these days. From a man's point of view, I really like this a lot. The perfume is really fresh and doesn't get boring. I think this is a winner. If I had to given any criticism it would be the actual atomiser sprayer. It seems a bit cheap, as if all the money has gone on the bottle itself. This is just a minor (very minor) observation which does not detract from the perfume itself.

The scent is a floral and fruity blend; the sharpness of citrus but much more floral, the perfume equivalent of elderflower cordial. It feels mature. Not old, but the kind of smell I imagine catching a fleeting whiff of at Ascot races. The scent lasts also - big problem I have with other expensive branded perfumes is that I can't smell them after a few hours, but this one is particularly concentrated and lingers, in a good way. The bedroom still smells of it after a whole day, and I can still smell it on clothes the next day, after spritzing wrists and neck with a spray each.Overall its worth it, smells great, full scent, and lasts. I can't really see a man using this as much as it feels very feminine, but each to their own; the best way of describing the scent is that it's the complete opposite of Impulse, or anything equally sticky sweet.

This is a lovely scent and nice to find out it is a British brand. It is apparently inspired by a walk through an English walled garden.I found it to be quite long lasting, in certain conditions the smell would come back to you when you'd forgotten all about it.The base note is slightly musky but not overpowering in any way. The top notes are pear and burnt sugar and other things I can't quite put my finger on but dark rum is mentioned and bergamot amongst others. I'm sure a better nose than mine would detect them.I don't have a lot of perfumes and many of the scents I smell from other wearers can be completely overpowering and off-putting but I'm glad I tried this.It comes in a pretty square bottle a floral design scrolling around it, quite retro looking.

As soon as I smelled this fragrance I knew that it would be one of my favourites.I think that it is the perfect blend of fresh and floral. There is also a hint of something deeper which means that it'd be easy to wear at night time.I can see this perfume suiting ladies of all ages, from late teens all the way up to older ladies. It is subtle but lingers for a longer time throughout the day. This is competing with my favourite fragrance (Jo Malone- English Pear and Freesia).I am really enjoying wearing this perfume and think it will carry over to the Autumn beautifully

Generally I don't wear many perfumes as I find the scents over powering and sickly making me cough, this however didn't have that effect. At first it's strong but after a few minutes settles. You can still smell it around you but not so it sticks to the back of your throat.I sprayed on in the late afternoon and lasted into the evening quite well. The packaging it comes in is lovely (see pictures) the bottle is nicely decorated. The cap is quite heavy and fits snugly over the spray bottle top.

This is another winner from Miller Harris, who are one of the newer more exciting perfumiers on the market. It is supposed to be a unisex scent but I think it it more feminine than masculine. It has lovely floral top notes with a fresh crisp and green smell of irises and pears. This gives way after a while to a lovely musky smell which is great for a deeper Autumn fragrance. Really great I would totally recommend it.
