After using a 30 day trial of apple's office equivalent, I decided to change back and stick to what I know with microsoft. Installation was quick and very easy to do so, unlike other software I have tried to load onto my mac so I was quite impressed with this, even though microsoft are making software for one of their biggest rivals. The installation includes microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, entourage and messenger. The word, excel and powerpoint programs are very similar to that of 2007 pc office suite. Functionality wise, I can't find anything they do differently, however, the layout is very different and this can be quite confusing to start with but you soon start to get a feel for it.One of the biggest things I was worried about was compatibility from mac to pc and vice versa.Fortunately, there is no problem at all, because when you come to save a new file, you can do a quick compatibility test to make sure you can have the exact same file across the platforms. This is a godsend and is very good in my opinion.Next, there is entourage, the program that makes this the business edition. This is very similar to any editions of outlook express you may have used. It is basically an advanced email inbox. In the top left hand corner you have the option of changing what you are doing, with the options being, mail, address book, calendar, notes, tasks and project centre. I do not really have a use for this, but from what I have used, it is very easy to use, and on the first time of use it will ask you if you wish to input data that you have inputted and saved on other programs so it is all ready to use after installation. As a business program, it has pretty much everything covered into one program ready to start the day. Upon tuning on your mac, a little widget pops up telling you about and calendar entries that need seeing to, emails, notes to be aware of and is great as a reminder to go.Although you can get messenger as a free download from the apple website, this version is an improvement on the free version. Upon installation, it will actually create another messenger program and not write over the old program. This is slightly frustrating, as the icons in the dock are the same, so you could accidentally click on the old program. I would advise deleting this as you still carry on as usual in your new version. The program does the same things, however, I find it more stable and I have less problems loading it, like I did with the free version. This will also sync with entourage quickly and easily.Another great feature is the weekly updates that the package does for you. It will pop up a bubble weekly, telling you of any available updates, and their importance, with a quick summary. This is easy to do and doesn't require restarting your mac!

I use office 2008 on PC and Mac so I was interested in the cross compatibily features. The main difference that I found when using Office for Mac initially was the lack of "ribbon" that appears in the Windows version. This may please some people! Instead, each window (In all apps) has a small selection of tools with all features appeared on the main OS menu bar.Word itself has two "views" - Publishing View and Print View. Both have an "elements gallery" that appears within the document window and can be used to add things like headers and footers in Print View. In publishing view there are sets of templates for flyers and posters. This view is more like a DTP package, focussed on graphics and text layouts.Excell does what you'd expect - there's a formula builder that is easy to use and quite powerful.I found Word and Excell easy to use and fast on my Intel based MAC. I store my documents in a repository on a server, and had no problems editing them on both platforms. The file format seems compatible, but there are some features that do not cross platform. For example, Equations created in Office for MAC cannot be edited in Office for Word. There are plenty of others cases - so if cross platform is important then it it best to check up on the incompatibilities beforehand.Much of Apple's HMI is based around single screens with sheets appearing somewhere on the main screen when a feature is requested, and I did find that Office does sometimes become cluttered with dialogue boxes cluttered with settings. As VBA is missing, your macros won't work - you have to use AppleScript instead. On an older PowerPC model (From 2001) it was quite sluggish, but still usable.I have not used any of the competitor's products, so I do not know how Office compares. For my use, which is mainly text documents and spreadsheets, it was perfectly adequate and easy to use and the cross platform support was OK for me. There are weaknesses here, however that may mean this is not suitable.I do not use Powerpoint, but it seemed very much the same as the others with a gallery of pre-defined objects all of which appear to come complete with fancy text effects.

Containing all of the usual Microsoft Office components, this is a great way to be able to access and create Windows compatible documents whilst using a Mac. It is ideal if you own a PC and a Mac (or have one at home at the other at work/ uni), so you can access your documents easily on both systems. There can be some freezes with the programmes, but as long as you keep things simple then this is an effective and useful product. The actual look of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and so on is slightly different to earlier versions (it can take a little getting used to, as it can seem more complex), but this does not pose a problem if you just give it a chance. It is easy to get used to and provides something very useful to people who want the functionality of Office but have, or have to use, a Mac.It is simply everything you are used to in Office, but for a Mac.
