I have to say that this is the best Solar system themed puzzle that you can buy right now. Make sure that you don`t forget that this is a "floor" puzzle, so it will be a bit bigger than your average 48 piece.I bought this for my son who loves astronomy and is really into the wonders of the universe app (2.5 years old) and he absolutely loves it. The names for the planets are on an attached sheet for reference in case you are not familiar with them and let me just say that I don`t agree with some other reviewers in that it should be printed on the puzzle. The last thing I want is the word "Mercury" blocking the image of the actual planet on a product that is aimed at kids who cannot or can justbarely read letters of the alphabet. As a parent I have to tell you that the biggest bonus this puzzle gives is that it is trying to be as factually accurate much as it possibly can:- all the celestial bodies are roughly to scale (I say roughly, because you will never see an enjoyable image with the size of the Sun and planets to scale as the planets would appear as dots).- the image includes the (inner) asteroid belt, and it is accurately located between Mars and Jupiter- the stars are not plain white but between blue and red, just like real stars when watched through a telescope due to surface temperature differences- contains the bigger moons of the bigger planets- does not list Pluto as a planet (as it shouldn`t)So all in all accuracy is the biggest plus for me as I would just hate to teach something to my kid and have to explain a couple of years later that some of the things I thought him were lies. If you think alike and your kid is into astronomy buy it, you are not going to regret it

Bought for my 4yr old, she is besotted with it. Was learning about the solar system in Montessori & loved the big pieces & challenge of making it without help. She is fairly good with jigsaws, yet was a challenge for her. She loves being quizzed on which planet is which & opened her up to many thoughts and questions about planets, earth etc. Was looking after my 4yr old nephew recently & my daughter chose it as an activity to do. I was shocked at how attentive he was to trying to make it & the questions that followed. Going to buy it for him. Very colourful & great size when fully made. Only quip would be that it is difficult to explain perspective, as planets are as they would look as if you were looking out from the moon.My daughter understood after a few discussions. Very worthwhile purchase.

Really nice jigsaw, Large size with large pieces. I have had a lot of fun doing this with my twin boys while they were 3 Now they have just turned 4 they are doing this on their own. It works well on the carpet with the pieces locking together nicely. Kids never refer to the image on the box to work out what goes where, its all trial and error, then memory. They remember what parts make up sections based on the colours and the overall picture, then it all comes together. The jigsaw is a picture printed on a stiff card, it is still very usable after a lot of play time. The box is now held together with tape...better that than never played with in my opinion.Overall its been a very good buy

Great quality jigsaw. It's a large puzzle so it needs a little bit of space but the big pieces are easier for small hands. My 3 and a half year old loves this. It's a beautiful image with enough detail to talk about individual planets without being overwhelming. There are also some nice details that can be good for leading off into further discussion for older children - an asteroid belt, comet, spiral galaxy, nebula, the fact that the earth is part in shadow so you can discuss why we have day/night etc. We combined it with a couple of the Usborne beginner books (Sun, Moon and Stars and The Solar System) which complemented it well. Very pleased with this purchase.

The puzzle is quite large and does require a decent amount of floor space to put together. The pieces are also quite large which helps little hands to be able to do it for themselves. Both my children (4&2) love this jigsaw, the eldest is able to complete it by herself and the youngest only requires a little help. The picture is different to a lot of other jigsaws and there is a piece of paper in the box with another copy on the picture on with each planet numbered and then a key detailing which number is which planet. It has been played with everyday since it arrived and is both fun and educational.

A really good quality jigsaw for children. It's a little bit too hard for my three-year-old to do by herself as there's lots of quite similar pieces, but she enjoys doing it with help and she'll grow into it. As a physics teacher I would say it's not ideal for teaching your children about the solar system as it's from the prospective of the moon so your child may believe the moon is the largest thing in the solar system. Otherwise, it is a lovely, good quality jigsaw and a starting point for little astrophysicists, hence the four stars.

Good, chunky, durable pieces enabled our disabled child to enjoy this puzzle without the frustrations he experiences with some others we have tried.Very good value educationally as we have covered and are still covering the subject of the planets and space travel. We are now very keen to try other Melissa and Doug puzzles. One small problem is that the pieces are difficult to fit back easily into the box. Perhaps a slightly bigger box would be better.

very educative puzzle, colourful and of high resolution. it would take a while for a child to picture the puzzle, as it may confuse her : she cannot always understand that the perspective in taken from the point where a person is standing on the moon. The planets seem not to be in the order the child knows. ( Mercury venus earth mars jupiter saturn uranus neptune)It is always tricky to assemble to sun ( all yellow). Good size and good quality.

I have bought this for my 5 yr old daughters birthday so she hasn't seen it or put it together yet (but my husband and I have!) I am sure she will love it. The jigsaw will be great for doing on the floor as it is quite large, the pieces are excellent quality and the picture I am sure will teach her a lot whilst being great fun too! This is my first Melissa and Doug product I have bought and it will not be the last. Quality and value for money!

Bought this for my 5 year old autistic grandson who is currently mad about the planets of the solar system. It is brilliant in every way. The picture is beautiful, bold colours and very clear. Each piece is has a lovely feel, not too thin or thick, very well cut and fixes together easily. My Grandson is especially pleased that the picture includes the asteroid belt and a big bold sun!Could not be happier.

My first purchase of a Melissa & Doug jigsaw, and very impressed with the quality. Nice chunky, sturdy, well-cut pieces, fantastic picture (my four -year-old loves it)Excellent value for money, as I paid nearly double the price last year for a similar size ELC floor puzzle. I have since bought two more as birthday gifts, and the dinousaur floor puzzle for my son for Christmas. Highly recommended.

My four year old absolutely loves this jigsaw. It has really vibrant colours, with great sturdy pieces that are quite chunky. It is a large jigsaw but when completed you will honestly stand back and say wow!! It's very tough and durable! My son must have done this at least fifty times! If your child is into space/ planets/ moon. I'd highly recommend this. They'll love it, it's amazing!

Melissa & Doug jigsaws are great for under-5's, as the pieces are large and robust and will stand up to little ones' determination to force them into the wrong place! I bought 2 of the Solar System puzzles for 2 4-year-old great nephews for their birthdays, as they are both interested in the stars and planets. Only one has been received yet, but his Dad informs me that he loved it.

This is my most recent Melissa and Doug - I'm afraid I am hooked on their puzzles! This one is very strong and well made - the colours are wonderful. Inside the box there is a printed sheet of the puzzle with the names of the planets clearly printed - so the educational value is there as well as the entertainment fun! My Grandson aged 6 really enjoyed building the puzzle.

Bought this for my 4yo grandson who loved anything to do with space. He loved it! The pieces are a good size and he found it easy to put together. Once completed it looks like a magnificent picture. There’s a sheet included with everything numbered to tell you which is which. I would recommend this as a wonderful activity for them to do with you and alone.
