Here EA deliver the most accessible version of Madden yet. Basically the same engine as '08 with a few nice additions, the real value comes in a focus on the new player, with reasonably intelligent tutorials and a real time IQ that alters according to your skill level. If you're new to the franchise, this is the version to start with - it's never been so open to rookies.So what are the negatives? Obviously if you don't like American Football, or don't have at least a basic understanding of the rules, you're going to have a tough time. But if you're buying this game, this probably isn't going to apply to you. The music can be annoying - it's a combination of pointless nu-metal and the standard awful hip-hop.Fortunately there's an option to get rid of the songs track by track, which is a welcome addition. And the new 'superstar' mode could use some work... personally I don't much see the point in controlling your superstar as he does bench presses or 60 yard dashes. Some will appreciate the addition - it's not something that has any interest for me.So in summary, best Madden yet? Probably. Certainly the most accessible for the casual player.IMPORTANT : - You'll see some other reviewers complain about 'freezes'. It's important to understand that without exception this is down to their respective boxes. Despite what some have said, this is not an issue with the game, per se. Some games, for a variety of reasons, push your box a little harder, or in different ways, and the build quality of the 360 is famously as variable as it gets. On my machine it plays perfectly.

Over the years, I feel that where new Madden games have gone wrong is a lack of something new year after year. Sure, we've been given Superstar mode in which you create a player and use him individually on every single down, we've been given create-a-fan which was quite original and we've been given fantasy mode in which you select a team, using points and the better you do the better players you can get. These aside, there have been editions that didnt really include any changes.This year we are treated to one of the best new features I personally have ever seen; The Madden IQ test. This tests your skill in run offense and defense and pass offence and defense.Depending on how well you partake these challenges will adjust CPU AI in each aspect of your game and will change accordingly to how you play each week. So you wont get thrashed and you wont crush your opponent each week.Graphics feel smoother this year and John Madden has bowed down from the commentary box and handed over to two new guys, which gives this a whole new feel. Madden is a legend without question, but his monotonous voice can do your head in after a while. So the change is quite nice. But John is still in the game. He welcomes you to the 20th edition of the game at the start, and it is he who takes you through the Madden IQ Test.This is pretty much the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of NFL videogames. And judging by this, the 30 year anniversery game will certainly be something special.

It's been a long time since the heady days of ESPN Football 2k5, and Madden has lagged since that great game, especially on the xbox 360. However now Madden has retaken its throne as the best NFL game ever.For one thing we have real commentary, which for some stupid reason has been omitted in previous 360 incarnations. The commentary is both atmospheric and great at teaching you some of the subtleties of the game.Next the graphics seem to have improved drastically. Different famous NFL players actually look different in this game. Also there is some sweet animation at the beginning of each game which shows the outside of the stadium, which again adds tons of atmosphere.You can finally have all 11 of your players be displayed as weapons,which is great if you spend your time grinding through mini-games to improve your players; as you will see them on the pitch.There are a few small points to nit-pick, but there is no point, because overall this game is great. If you are a series fan: buy it!And last but not least, Raiders for the Superbowl!!!

Year after year as with the Pro Evo series I keep getting suckered in to buying this game when in truth the original copy is more than adequate. At the end of the day how can you improve on a game that just about ticks all the boxes in the first place. The FIFA series has shown constant improvement in recent years but this is largely down to the fact it is seriously flawed in the first place. Madden doesnt have these problems. The game physics and AI have been and continue to be about as good as it gets in a sports game. Its therefore down to the finishing touches which determine if this game is worth buying. If your an NFL fan you will have to get it purely for the updated Rosters (although Brett Favre on the cover now plays for the Jets.)The commentary and stadium shots add to the game day atmosphere. However the VR Tron like training screens were misplaced in my opinion with simple field training of previous issues far better. All in all another good solid game but unless your a big NFL fan its not worth £40 if you have last years version.

The latest instalment is given a Fifa 08 style revamp, which i cant help but like, much more sleek, and giving it that Premier sports game look, which the Madden range deserves.The game play is harder,forcing the player to up their game, this is always the case with the Maddens.but much better, utilising the right analog stick more than any other version.I like the new substituting system, whereby you can swap your running backs on the play picking screen with just a tap of a button, rather than changing the depth chart etc, alot more realistic, and perfect for putting your Lorenzo neal at the back of your I on 4th and 1.Graphic wise, i still think madden can improve (you still have the same old tackles or moves,far too perfect compared to the real game), however gameplay wise, they are really coming on leaps and bounds, cutting the complicated bits, and simplifying where needed.

Madden 09 is a huge leap forward in looks from 08, and in some of the gameplay. The Madden IQ test at the beginning of the game allows you to test yourself in a few situations, then this sets the difficulty level of each section of the game - this level also adapts each time you play.The controls however are fearsomely difficult, slight twitches of the control sticks sends your player hammering off in the wrong direction. Another annoyance is that when your player gets involved in a block it's damn difficult to shed it, but opposition players just seem to whiff by other blocks to muller you.The commentary is much better, although it quickly gets repetitive, and some of the AI play calling is pants,but overall a great looking but kinda frustrating game to play.

I HAVE BEEN GREAT FAN OF MADDEN SINCE 1989 WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT ON THECOMMODORE 64 AND HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE THEN AND THIS YEAR'S MADDEN 09IS THE BEST EVER - THE PRESENTITION AND GRAPHIC'S PLUS THE IDEA OF AVIRTUAL TRAINING TEST TO TEST YOUR SKILL'S TO SET YOUR IQ SCOREIS A GREAT IDEA - THE BACK TRACK FEATURE VERY GOOD,EVEN COMPUTER V COMPUTER IS BACK SO YOU CAN WATCH THE ACTION - IN ALL THERE IS 85 NEW FEATURE'S ON THIS YEAR'S MADDEN 09 - THE BEST EVER

Bought this for my fiance because it was realllly cheap and he loves American Football. If you have any of the other Madden games you will probably love this too, the graphics are much better and the in-game training is better than on any of the earlier games. Other than that, not a huge difference but if you're bored of the earlier ones and want something different this is probably a good bet.

As a fan of the Madden games, I have to say thar this game is among the best available for PS3/XBOX 360.Graphics are good and animations and commentators are accurate for every situation.

Bought as an Xmas present for my younger son. He says the graphics are amazing. The depth that you can go into on the game is also fantastic. An excellent game.
