Arrived well packaged, I have used this to burn most formats of disc media, ISO, DVD, CD-R, CD-RW it has up until now worked perfectly, every disc is written reasonably quickly, CD-R's tend to be a little loud when burning but beyond that no issues. The DVD writer itself comes with a free copy of CYBERLINK MEDIA SUITE. which is a free burning program (I haven't used it as I have no need) but it can be mounted from the writer itself. I haven't played a DVD or CD from the writer so can't comment on that.I would recommend this product, don't be fooled by cheaper models from brands you haven't heard of, ALWAYS pay extra for a reputable brand when it comes to electronics, especially temperamental electronics like DVD writers. The components used inside do not appear to be reused (as is the case with many cheaper models). Even at a little extra cost, it's still cheap enough to not worry too much. Oh and it looks smart enough (I paid a little more for the black model). To answer any other questions anyone may have, yes it is a single cable, it's a little thicker than standard data transfer cables but the writer uses it for both power and data transfer.NOTE: There is an initial driver install, it's very quick and hassle free, but if you are looking for a model to plug into a broken system and mount a file (operating system), I'm not sure this model will work without an initial driver install into your OS system, and if it's your OS you're looking to fix out of the box, it may not work so be warned on that front.Other than that, this is a fantastic DVD writer, the best you will get bar paying 6x the amount for a Samsung or industrial writer.

Faced with a malfunctioning cd/dvd drive on my home PC I looked for a standalone drive. I mainly use this to burn copies of my music on I Tunes for use in the car etc. There are too many companies selling these through Amazon all with excellent [or variable write ups] so the choice is a bit bewildering. I went for a name I know and thus a company that has a reputation behind it, hence the choice of LG.Having unpacked it and burnt some discs to it I can report its very good. It connected to my PC immediately with no drivers etc needed. It runs off the single usb port and needs no power supply beyond the usb [saves a plug and yet more cables]. Its burnt discs perfectly in good time and I`ve played back from same discs - all great.its quiet in operation and certainly quieter than my in built disc drive. It is definitely slimline so I guess that makes it good if you travel with it and a laptop. When you burn discs on I Tunes you've just to remember to select the LG - I`ve put a sticker on my drive to remind me which one it is.I`m no techie but simply plugging it in and playing is great - didn't read any instructions so even better. Good buy and no problems.

My new laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD writer which is the price you pay for portability and needed to burn some CD's so looked into a USB CD/DVD writer. The first one ordered was from a brand that I was unfamiliar with, for a reasonable price and was terrible! It never even completely wrote one CD or DVD from new, so decided to go with a more recognised brand. The good============================This drive is fantastic! It's very light and portable so easy to carry with you, should you need.Setup was easy and basically involved plugging it into the USB port, so no extra power source needed.Used it to write a number of CD/DVDs and it hasn't failed once. The speed is great.Very reasonably priced.the bad==============================The drive does get a little loud, but again more soundproofing would mean a larger size which would reduce portability somewhat.the ugly==============================Again a trade of for portability but you have to be gentle when putting in or taking out a disc and the tray does feel like it could break easily with little force.

This almost got sent back until I noticed a comment in a possible replacement device's review concerning USB 2 and USB 3 power. When I first unboxed this my Microsoft Surface 3 was in its dock and plugged into the mains. I plugged this device into a spare USB 2 port and tried playing a DVD. It worked a treat. Then tried to play an audio cd and it didn't. It kept on starting and stopping. Went back to the DVDs and it worked fine. A forum suggested a misaligned laser so I was about to replace it when I noticed the comment about USB 3. I thought I might as well give it a go and lo, it worked a treat for both the Audio CDR and then the DVD. The final test was getting it to work when the tablet was out of its dock via the solitary USB 3 port.It passed with flying colours. If you are having a problem getting this device to work with your tablet/PC then try all your USB ports before sending it back!

Very good product overall, very clean and professional looking, extremely easy to use. This is the first time I’ve ever purchased anything like this, and really have no clue when it comes to technology so was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use. Instructions included are simple to understand, works pretty much straight out the box.Does feel very light and doesn’t feel like it would withstand a beating. Am being very careful not to drop or knock it as feels like it would break if that happened, which is hard in a family environment.Did burn my CDs and enabled me to download content from disks to my computer.Have but content into disks successfully also.Haven’t tried watched any dvds though as my hp laptop doesn’t have any software to play dvds as of yet.Overall good value and pleased with it. Would buy again and would recommend.

Bought a new laptop recently and rather foolishly I'd assumed it would have a CD/DVD drive - however it didn't (a growing trend it would appear) so I went looking for something compact and inexpensive. I don't often allow myself to be swayed by branding but in this case I'm glad I did - the LG GP57EB is about as small as it gets when it comes to optical drives; I've just burned a CD in it and it works perfectly - running about as quick as the built-in drives in previous laptops and with a similar amount of noise (not that much). LG is a large and well respected manufacturer so I'm hopeful this drive will be reliable and long lasting. One thing I hadn't realised is that some TVs can apparently use this as an external drive (presumably to play content).I tried it with my Samsung Smart TV (UE43J5600) but it doesn't detect it.

Having recently purchased a 2013 Apple iMac, I was starting to miss the convenience of having a drive for the occasional import of a CD into iTunes or burning a disk of photos for relatives. However, the only occasional usage meant I couldn't really warrant paying the premium for an Apple External drive. This drive was literally plug and play, nothing to install. Running on OS X Yosemite. Despite never using a DVD drive on a mac before, it was all very intuitive. Didn't bother reading any of the included instructions. The drive is a bit whiny/noisy as it spins the disk, but no louder than I would expect for a drive that size. As a previous comment mentions, if directly playing CD audio, the drive will slow down to the necessary data rate. The silver part of the case is plastic and doesn't look out of place under the iMac.

Bought to go with a Dell laptop purchase (running Windows 10) which doesn't have an integrated CD/DVD writer included.Comes with a Cyberlink Media software disc (if you want to download that) but it's not necessary for using the writer to simply play or burn all types of CDs (i've not tried DVDs yet). It also will play CD/DVDs via a compatible TV providing the TV has a USB port. It doesn't need charging as it plays/powers via the computer USB connection. It's ultra thin as advertised, is very quiet but the tray action is quite jerky (unlike the smooth action of a computer tray) and it doesn't like to moved around whilst burning CDs as i found out to my cost early on!However, minor niggles aside it's a great little machine and relatively cheap. I've had mine for over a year now with no issues.

It's made in China by H-L. Huh?! According to Wikipedia it's a joint venture between Hitachi and LG, selling its first product in 2001, and now a market leader. A "super multi" logo has replaced the LG logo shown in the picture. Other than that, it seems to work OK, straight out of the box, powered by an iMac's USB skt. It first asks you to set the region code. I have not tried burning. I use it to play DVDs which boot up with DVD player which is native to iMac. Also works with VLC. Only time will determine the long-term reliability of this. A warning to iMac users. You need to quit any application using the drive before ejecting. I didn't, resulting in the Icon vanishing but no eject. Don't panic! There's still that little hole, and any stiff bit of wire poked in works a treat!

It does the job. It plugs in via a single USB cable and gets its power from the same USB port. It's not the fastest drive and it's certainly not quiet but it does the job. I bought it because my computer has no optical drive (as I don't use discs) but just on the off-chance that I need to use a disc anytime, I can just plug this drive in. No drivers needed, Windows recognises the drive instantly. The USB cable is included but the connector is different to my other USB devices (phone, tablet, camera) so might be proprietary. This could be an issue if the drive is not close to the computer as the cable is quite short. It works for me though.

A produce which suited my needs perfectly - I needed a device that could write to the new archival M-Disk DVD format for permanent storage of previous memories. The device is simple to install on WIndows Ten, just follow the leaflet in the box for plug and play installation. Wrote Ten complete M-Disk's DVD worth of data to archive ALL of my Holiday Pictures Collection built up over almost Two Decades for posterity. (Two sets of five - one in a bank deposit box, and one at home). The machine itself fits snugly into a Men's internal jacket pocket for easy portability to the office.

Bought for my daughter's Dell laptop running WIN 10.Haven't tried burning anything, but the device just works (from a plug and play perspective) for playback of any of her CD/DVD's without using the provided software. As other reviewers have mentioned it's certainly very light and delicate and needs gentle handling. It's almost as if they've just taken an internal laptop DVD drive and put a thin plastic case round it to sell on.In gentle hands though it's fine (so far) for the occasional use it was intended for.

I used this to rip some of my CD collection to FLAC because none of my devices has a cdrom drive anymore. It does a very good job, I encountered no errors while Accurate-ripping 20 cds or so. No skipping, no problems at all, it just works out of the box - both Windows and Linux. Haven't tested dvd writing. The construction is a bit flimsy (all plastic) and feels like it would split in a hundred pieces if dropped; but you can't expect much more at this price.

I use this with an Apple MacBook Air. Easy to use, no installation process, just plus and go. Use with iTunes to maximise performance. Takes around 6 minutes to burn an 80 minute Audio disk with high quality music.Plays DVD's for those legacy home movies your parents recorded when you were a child. Good value for money, does everything as advertised and has survived numerous accidents. Comes ready to go straight from the box.

LG delivered again. Having used LG hardware for years now I'm really pleased about this excellent Drive. Looks sleak and professional, operated relatively quiet and make no other noise apart from DVD spinning.Item was manufactured in 2018 so that's a huge perk for me. With so many products on Amazon I prefer to stick with the brands I know and LG is pretty decent.Packaging was great as well, very well presented.9/10 easily
