Bought this 24" 4K HD as a work non-gaming, non-photography, mainly business use monitor. I wanted to get 2 A4 pages in Word side by side as I do a lot of writing, with good visual detail. You must remember to get extra cables if the supplied cables don't suit. It's supplied with an HDMI to HDMI and a DP to DP pair of cables; but I'm driving this off a 4K graphics card in a laptop with a Thunderbolt and needed a mini-DP to DP connect. Remember to get 4K capable cables. The monitor complains that you're not using the supplied cables, but you can dismiss the message permanently via the OSD button below the centre bottom edge. It will also complain if you don't drive it at 4K HD but again, you can dismiss it permanently via the OSD (but 4K is why you bought this, right? I was testing on a DVD 1080p before the mini-DP cables arrived.)The stand is basic; only has a tilt adjustment and no up/down, but it's pretty solid. The power cable is only 1.5mtrs, which was just enough to get from the centre of my desk to a power strip at the back. It's a standard kettle connector if you need to replace it.At the rear there are two HDMI and one DP inputs, and a take off minijack for sound. The OSD is easy to use via the button underneath the display.Plenty of options for setting picture colour, sharpness etc; the quality is very good, and the pixels are not visible at working distance of around 1 meter. Good brightness for my home office, but at 250nits if you're in a very bright environment it may not be quite enough.Windows works best at scaling of 150% to 200%. At 100% it's sharp and clear, but oh so tiny for my old eyes. With Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10 by default you're stuck with 100% or 200% (no fractional scaling), which may be a bit big for some. There's Windows OSD software provided on a CD. If you have a CD reader, fine; I don't, so it was off to LG's very confusing website. The model number is 24UD58-B, and you get several small zip files for what appear to be the same software (I think they are colour calibration files). The OSD software is a heftier 108MB and provides similar facilities to the manual OSD. It requires .NET2.5 and .NET3 distributable files, which the install will download if required. It doesn't add a taskbar or desktop icon, so you'll have to search for OSD in the Start menu to find it after install, which is a bit annoying.A couple of extra features over the manual OSD button; a "hit the CTRL key so I can find the mouse" which shows it up as a sonar-like circle, and the ability to run the screen in 9:5 aspect with a strip down the right had side that shows you what apps you're running in what is effectively a huge taskbar; you click on them to bring them to the main window. There's also a feature to partition the screen into various rectangle shaped pieces and (I think, I was a bit confused at this point) run them as separate desktops. How handy this is I'm not sure.Very please so far with my purchase. I gave it 4 stars for value for money because of the cables; it cost me another 12 quid to rectify it.

A top quality, super-sharp display at a really good price. Perfect for office use as well as gaming. Arrived in 2 days on Prime.Tested on 12" Retina Macbook and also Dell E7270 windows 10 laptop.Amazingly, this 24" 4K display is only half the price of the the 4K 21.5" LG display that Apple are selling in their stores at the moment! This monitor has a very, very, very high pixel density so the screen image is absolutely outstanding - I'd say it is as sharp as any Apple display I've seen. You can't see the individual pixels at all. Text seems really, really sharp. The only advantages of the 21.5" version in the Apple store are that it has built in speakers (no big deal for me) and USB-C connectivity. The latter sounds useful but not if you want to connect non-Apple computers to it that don't have USB-C connections. Neither of these features justifies the high price tag of the 21.5" screen in my opinion. It's worth noting that LG also a 27" version of this monitor (27UD58), which is probably OK for gaming but for desktop use you might suffer from the reduced pixel density (it's still 4K but the pixels are spread over a larger area) so I'd advise saving your money and going for the 24" version if you intend to use the monitor mainly for email, writing documents, surfing the web, spreadsheets and the like and if the screen is only going to be about 50cm away from your face most of the time. This 24" monitor is very flexible and has 2xHDMI inputs as well as a DisplayPort connector. That gives you the ability to connect up to three different devices, which is great for me as I also have a Windows laptop to occassionally connect up as well as my Macbook. If you own a 12" Retina Macbook then in order to use this 24" monitor you will need to buy an adapter like the MINIX NEO-C-MGO Mini USB-C MultiPort adapter (about £39), which plugs into your Macbook USB-C port and enables you to connect to a 4K monitor using HDMI whilst simultaneously charging the Macbook using your regular USB-C charger. It also gives you two USB ports to connect USB sticks etc, which is very handy as the Macbook only has one USB-C port. This gadget is also available in a range of colours including gold to match your Macbook. If you prefer not to buy an adaptor then you can go for the cheaper option of buying a USB-C to DisplayPort cable but beware that your Macbook will not be charging while you use it!This monitor came with both HDMI-HDMI and DisplayPort-DisplayPort cables. If you do want to buy a second HDMI-HDMI cable then make sure to buy a cable that is specified to work with 4K displays. Older HDMI cables probably won't work with 4K.Finally, there is a headphone jack on the back of the monitor but I recommend setting your computer to use its own speakers or headphone socket instead as it's not easy to plug/unplug headphones from round the back of such a large screen - the socket isn't well placed. All in all, this was a great purchase. I'm really pleased with the picture quality and happy to have the 2 year guarantee from LG.

I bought it primarily for gaming, but I have a laptop that I will also use on it occasionally. The increased pixel density of 4K on a 24" screen means aliasing is much less apparent that on my 1080p monitor. However, as expected, I will need to upgrade my R9 290 to get the full benefit in new games. But playing some older games proves 4K is a step up for gaming. Everything has such clarity, it's really amazing.Image quality is also very good compared to my previous TN panel. It's my first IPS display, so I've been blown away by the colours and the viewing angles are astonishing. My laptop seems only to do 4K at 30Hz, which is a bit of a pain, but the gaming PC was the priority and the R9 290 does 4K60 over DisplayPort.Luckily, it scales very well and 1440p at 60Hz is very usable with the laptop. To further enhance the image, there are two sharpening options which will be useful when viewing a scaled image. The monitor has plenty of settings and image presets, but a star is removed for a lack of worthwhile features. Only the sharpening options seem useful. It would be nice for the current resolution and refresh rate to be displayed in the menu somewhere. And, while the monitor has three inputs, it would be nice to save settings for each input. But this is only a minor moan, hence one star lost.Speakers, I can take or leave. If they're there I will use them if I need to, but they're usually poor quality in monitors anyway, so I will make use of the headphone jack and a portable speaker instead. Lack of USB doesn't bother me because the ports are always on the back or side and hard to reach. Not a big deal for me.Overall, a 4K60, IPS, Freesync monitor in 24" and light enough for my cheap monitor arm has been a sound buy. Can't comment on durability yet as I've had it for a day, LOL!

I bought this for the sole purpose of using it as a second monitor for my MacBook Pro, to use at work. My MacBook Pro is a mid-2014, Retina, 13-inch.When I hook this up (either with HDMI or using a Thunderbolt/mini display-port to DisplayPort cable), I get 4k at 30hz.Before I bought it, I tried an HD monitor (also 24") - so running at 1080P. That monitor was good enough when I watched a movie on it - NETFLIX looked just fine. However, when I used it for it's real purpose, namely for work purposes, I was not happy with the clarity of fonts and text. Any browser based reading, PDF reading, WORD, OUTLOOK or anything else, was OK but not crisp and a real night and day difference from the brilliant MBP retina display. With the 1080P screen, I found myself preferring to use the retina display for everything which defeated the purpose of having an additional screen.I took the plunge on this monitor and it did not require any setting up before it was immediately impressive. It is so crisp, so sharp, so easy to read, and it is every bit a good match for the MBP retina display. On the displays preferences screen (on the Mac), if you switch from '1080P' to 'default for screen', you can see the really dramatic change in clarity.I was worried that the 30HZ would be an issue but it has not affected it for work purposes and even for video, I have not seen any problem. I never play games so I cannot comment on how it would perform for that application. It's a non-issue as far as I am concerned for my purposes. In my view, this is the perfect companion to a MBP retina display.

I'm not a gamer, I use this as a secondary screen and I'm loving it! Especially after trying FHD screen from Acer without realising that Macbook only renders very high resolution content (2k and above up to 4k), result was horrible blurry experience. If you need a secondary screen, look no other than 2k and above or you will regret. After you get a 4k screen, you can play around and find your suitable settings of your preference.Positives:Amazing screen clarity. Mimics my retina display in colour and crispness.Efficient way to handle the menu options.Refresh rate - If you are not a gamer, don't worry about it(5ms is as good). All you need is good 60Hz frequency to keep things top notch.Cables - I tried HDMi to HDMI first, but colours and resolution was compromised. Now using USB-C to DP and result is amazingNegatives:The screen is identified as a 27" UHD screen by the software. Which means LG didn't bother giving this a 24" label (Weird, their way of cost cutting I suppose).Good luck finding a soft copy of Manual as LG doesn't give a manual for this model. You have to choose the closest to this one (which is 27" UHD59-B)With this sort of minimum frustrations( because of not being a flagship model, hence less attention to detail to the supporting material), I'll say it out loud, if you want an external screen for your retina / 4k supporting graphic card, this is a brilliant choice at this price.

I did a lot of research before I purchased this monitor, I am not a ridiculously serious gamer or anything like that so I was just looking for a nice looking monitor that I could work from home on and also game on with my PS4. The monitor looks really nice and can tilt back and forth, it’s comes with all the wires you need and you only have to put 2 little screws in which anyone can do, so really it’s just plug and play! The quality in my opinion is really really good, menu navigation is great also. I know there are some crazy monitors that you can pay nearly thousands for but for me this was perfect. If you are a casual gamer but still want to play games in amazing quality etc and maybe do a few things in your computer it’s great for that too.Really good monitor for the price.Only down side was it doesn’t have any speakers which I wasn’t aware of so just to let future buyers know. Luckily wasn’t a problem for me as it’s has an audio jack in the back with 2 x HDMI so I just plug in my headphones.

Plugged in a USB-C to DisplayPort cable from my Intel NUC''s Thunderbolt port to monitor. Greeted by warning "use cables supplied". So tried the supplied HDMI to HDMI cable, but get exactly same message! Yet both cables seem to work fine and Windows 10 Pro reports 3840 x 2160 @ 59 Hz for both (but isn't it supposed to be limited to 30Hz for HDMI?). It is impossible to remove this message and the supplied cables are ridiculously short. The message obscures windows log on dialogue and takes ages to vanish. Just annoying, and worrying. What on earth is this all about?EDIT; now given four stars (not three). You have to use the hidden 'joystick' under the monitor to get rid of the message. Why not permit use of mouse or keyboard given it is MS-Windows booting up? Arrrggghh. The manual isn't the most useful of documents, but the monitor now deserves at least four stars (not my original three).

I bought this to use as an external monitor for my Macbook 13 inch retina and I was looking for something that could display a bigger image without losing the quality. This definitely does the trick and if anything, makes it seem clearer/better quality, but that might just be because of the size. I bought the 24 inch monitor and it was bigger than expected, fitting perfectly on my small-ish desk whilst still leaving enough room for a keyboard, mouse and speaker. It's big enough for me to fit several documents on one screen, which I love, so I highly recommend buying it if you're after something not too big nor small, and that keeps up the quality of your MacBook. There aren't any USB ports,I should warn you, but that didn't matter personally because I connect everything to my laptop anyway.

The factory settings for this monitor don't do it justice. With a little adjustment, it honestly looks fantastic. Press the joystick under the screen and set:Brightness: 35 (or whatever you like)Contrast: 50Sharpness: 60Black Stabilizer: 80Six Color: put every color and hue to 46And every other setting left at factory. Play around with the settings from there if you like. That's just what I personally use and I love it. Well worth the money. Also, put the sharpness to above 60 if you're using 1080p resolution for anything. I actually thought it was native 1080p a few times.Edit: make sure to get a certified Display Port cable or else you might be locked at 30hz with the cable that comes with it.DP cable quality matters so make sure you get a good one.

This screen has great picture quality, very sharp and bright, puts my other monitor (1080) to shame in every aspect except input delay. I can just about notice some delay in mouse movement, enough that playing a first person shooter might feel a bit off if you're accustomed to a 1ms display but that's not what I bought this monitor for so that doesn't bother me.I haven't experienced the issue some others have mentioned with the persisting text box telling them to use the supplied HDMI cables, only the very first time I turned it on, then there was a 'do not tell me again' option.I think I'm gonna have to buy a second as now my two screens are at different heights when mounted on my duel vesamount.

It is light weight and easy to move on a counter balance arm and to rotate 90 degrees on the arm. It is quick to power up. Bought it because one of our laptops is capable fo 4K video but discovered it is overkill unless you need the 4K for CAD or computer animation drawings. Still, not regretted its purchase. Had multiple input. Ours is permanently connected to two laptops and it could be toggled to either one. The selection is via the joystick behind the bottom edge. The literature says something about using original cable. As it only comes with one, searching Amazon produced a number of suppliers of 4K compatible HDMI cables. Radomly selected one of 3m length and it worked.

Brilliant screens. If there are any defects in them, then I cannot see them. Colour is strong and vibrant. Necessitated 4K graphics card but that is obvious. One point I would mention is an annoying nag message which pops up every time the monitor is turned on, to tell you to use the supplied cables. According to LG this cannot be disabled, if you do not used the supplied cables, . These are way too short for my setup and so I have to put up with them nagging me.LG support informed me that they were designed for those monitors, implying that I should not use other cables. Review loses a point due to this.

When my 2007 iMac became obsolete I purchased a refurbished 12" MacBook, which suits my needs. What I obviously missed was the bigger screen and so I looked around for a Monitor and having done quite a bit of research I decided on a 24" version of this LG screen. My worry was that the MacBook wouldn't support it, but after some fiddling (go to Displays in Preferences and mess about there for a bit) I've got it working and it is brilliant (!). Perhaps I should have gone for a 27" screen, but then I only paid £250 for this and it's like having my old iMac back, with a MacBook as well.

Decent 4K Monitor for the price but very frustrating to set up.Some of the features cannot be properly turned off - I think it's a bug within the monitor electronics.I had to turn off all the visible energy saving features because I have had some cases where I had to hard boot the computer when the monitor turns itself off and cannot come back on.The manual is rather basic and doesn't explain much. I keep the monitor in Freesync Picture Mode - You can set it up so that it change modes while you use different app but not much explanation of how to accomplish that.

24.8.2018

The display looks stunning, and is extremely smooth at 60hz through displayport and HDMI connections. Contrary to other reviews here i have been able to disable the message that prompts you to use LG cables with no difficulty, so perhaps there has been a firmware update recently. I simply cannot fault this display, and at this price you cannot go wrong.Update 2 months on:Still absolutely perfect. This display still blows me away every day. If you're on the fence about buying this, just go for it.
