New portable writer for use with Windows 10. Genuine Hitachi-LG Data Storage product exactly asper LGs website and model number. The reviews that say it's fake either got a totally different unit to this or didn't realise that Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS) is a 20 year old joint venture between LG & Hitachi. They took over IBM following the Deathstar HDD era.Came in a retail box with some bundled software - you do not need the software to burn data discs. I did not even open the disc - usually the free bundled stuff is limited and isn't worth a light. The drive works fine with the built-in Windows stuff. If you want something with a bit more control or full on DVD Video authoring there are lots of free options - e.g.IMGBurn combined with AVS2DVD works perfectly. This unit is USB2.0. Includes a nice thick USB-A to Mini-USB cable to deliver power and data. No need for a Y-cable or separate power cable. Works in USB3.0 ports as well as USB2.0.Seems well built - I've had LG writers for many years and they've been very reliable long-term. I expect the same decent life from this unit.Works with CD-R, RW, DVD-R, -RW, +R, +RW and the Dual Layer DVD variants. Also does DVD-RAM if you need it - handy sometimes.Spec says it does M-Discs - I don't have any to test but cannot see why not.I haven't tested it with a Mac yet but box says works with OS.X - again there are free apps like Burn (dead simple) for data discs.TV Connectivity is mentioned on the box - an unusual feature - doesn't get recognised by our LG, Samsung or JVC SmartTVs either with MP4s or DVD-Video on the disc - I'm guessing there are some very specific models that support it. Not really important but was worth having a go to see what would happen.Overall a bargain, cheaper and a therefore a much better buy than the unbranded/off-brand units in the long term.

Works perfectly, plug and play on Windows 10 Microsoft Surface. Plugged it in and it just acts like a built in CD/DVD+/-RW drive. I did have to download a DVD player app for windows though as Windows Media player no longer plays DVD's. VLC Player did the trick perfectly. Is branded Hitachi-LG rather than just LG, but is genuine despite being cheap.

A good drive that worked straight out of the box on a new Dell Inspiron 7577 running Win 10. Tested fine with CDs and DVDs. Includes Cyberlink software on an installation disc. (Edit: the software is a time limited trial.)

It is a very good buy, plays DVDs and CDs, is small , lightweight, and takes up very little space, I'm very pleased with my purchase, I hope it remains working as well as it is doing so , so far
