I bought this to replace the drive in my Acer Aspire E1-570 laptop, having measured the thickness of the existing drive to be sure I needed the 9.5 mm size. The LiteOn drive arrived in a cardboard box labelled "bulk" with no instructions or data, just the drive and foam packing.I removed the single screw which held my drive from the back of the laptop and pulled the drive out. I pushed the new drive in. It went in quite far at the front as the bezel is different. I couldn't get the drive to be seen by Windows 10. The reason was that even though it seemed plugged in it was not in far enough due to the bezel. So here is what I had to do:The liteOn drive was closed. It had arrived closed and now I had to open it to get it back out. There is a pinhole in the front of the bezel to enable manual opening (no power) by pushing in a pin. I did that. The bezel had to be removed. This has to be done very carefully. The main tab which holds the bezel is on the front right side underneath and you need to lift the flap under which it is locked) slightly with a small screwdriver to release it and pull it forward. There are also a few arrow shaped tabs which come out easily just by pulling.I swapped the bezel with that from my original drive. The bracket from the back of the original drive which was held on by a really tiny screw, I also transferred to the LiteOn drive. The tiny screw is so small that if you drop it you may not find it again and you will not have a spare anything like it. The small bracket accepts the screw that you put through the back of the laptop to secure the drive.Once I did the above the drive worked perfectly. It used the same driver as my original drive. Windows 10 did not find a more up to date driver. So the job of installing consists of careful fiddly removal and fitting of bezels and small securing bracket, taking care not to force or break anything or lose the tiny screw for the small securing bracket. No software installation required.

Works perfectly!I've been building my own PCs since around 1990 so I've seen the CD drive ( later DVD drives ) come and go from computers. Back around 2000 you would see a PC without one, no with the USB storage and software downloads, CD drives are slowly going the way of the floppy drive. So it was I suddenly found myself with no free internal SATA slots on my mother board but in need of a DVD reader to archive some old backups and backup some DVDs and CDs to our media NAS systems. I thought I'd buy a cheap throwaway external USB drive, not expecting much but something that'll do the job for a month or two and then end up in the cupboard.I was pleasantly surprised to find how useful this will device is.It's about the size of a disc, about half an inch in depth. Power simply from the bog standard USB ports. I used it to rip my original bought CDs and DVDs to media files for storage, it worked perfectly on Windows 10 and Mac using various pieces of software. I even used it perfectly to erase some old rewritable DVDs I'd not used in almost 10 years and it worked perfectly! It's such a great little size to put in a bag if needed or just in a drawer for use when needed.A word of advice, use it with a double-ended power USB lead where you plug it into 2 USB sockets at the same time on the PC, this ensures there's plenty of juice to drive the drive motor, trying to run it with a single USB socket might cause issues. I've powered through sockets on USB HUB too to ensure there's enough juice and it's worked perfectly so far.

i started my first ever pc build in dec last year and completed it in a few days. all that was missing was an internal dvd, however i did pick up a new usb dvd player which done he job but i still wanted to get an internal one. and i am so glad i choosed this one, i went for price really as all dvd players are the same 99% of the time. i got the bare bones one which didnt come with screws or a sata cable but i had them anyway. this works perfcetly and i love it.however a few things for newbies to note.....A) if you take out the sata cable from your hard drive (thats plugged into port 1 for example) and put it in the dvd player then put a NEW sata cable in your hard drive and plug that back into port 1,the pc MAY boot up saying "cant find operating system" even tho its plugged into the same sata port as it was. something to do with the sata cable? maybe. but i switched back to the original cable and it worked.....wonder what happens when it breaks?B) This dvd player did ot include any CD but it was a plug and play product. its like plugging in a keyboard to the pc, it just works. same here with this.I also like to add that my one DOESNT make any loud noises at all, its quiet and no louder then my pc fan spinning on my GTX 1050 graphic card, in fact the card is louder when its downloading a game from steam. I think this is a great dvd player and can recommend if your replacing an old knackered one, or building your first ever pc from scratch like i have.

If like me you don't have a built in optical disc drive for your CDs/DVDs but still want to use them on your laptop or computer you have no choice but to hunt for different type of file that can be loaded by your device OR buy a wired external disc drive such as this.Yes, discs are becoming dated and in the day and age of Netflix and Spotify who needs this archaic technology? Well to be quite honest there most certainly will be times where you'll benefit from being able to use a drive so it's better to be able to rather than be stuck without the option when the time of need arises. This device is relatively cheap and I picked it up at a local retailer for approximately €30 which isn't madexpensive compared to some which can run up to €50.It's a solid functional device and does exactly as needed.Connects by an included cable, MINI (not standard micro) USB plugs into the optical drive while the other end connects via a standard USB port into your laptop or computer.Great for burning CDs or just playing your dust covered DVDs.ONLY ISSUE: drive will not open unless connected to a power source so be warned it can and will hold onto your disc unless you can connect it to power, provide it with energy to strt up then press the open button.

A very light, but fairly solid unit - not as flimsy as I had imagined. One thing to note is that the USB cable is not permanently attached, as it is in the black version - despite careful perusal of the sales-text at the time of buying, I was reasonably sure there was no difference between white & black models - there is! - so, a bit misleading perhaps... Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with this little DVD-writer. An added bonus was that it would also read my one & only DVD-RAM disk, something none of the others writers I have bought would do.Incidently, the quoting of some incredible MTBF figure is meaningless when it comes to DVD-writers. I'm on my fourth or fifth writers now,and although all still are mechanically sound, the lasers are all but clapped out on the others. So take that MTBF number with a pinch of salt!Edit: Just got another one of these to complement a new mini-PC build, and was a bit pee'ed-off by the fact that what I had paid a premium for, I didn't recieve - namely, the model with the integral mini-USB cable. I got the same one I already had, the one with a separate USB cable. So, though it loses a star, it is still a great DVD writer. The first one I bought is still working perfectly 150+ DVD-writes later.

I purchased the Liteon IHAS324-32 to replace the drive in my DELL inspiron 530. This original drive had given problems almost from Day 1, it would write DVD's but always had problems with CD's. It was easier to buy a new drive rather than deal with DELL and have to parcel up the PC and return it.Fitting the new drive was simplicity itself. Remove two screws to open the case, then remove two screws that held in the old drive. Disconnect the two connectors and pull out the old drive. Replacing the new drive was just a reversal of this procedure. Less than a quarter of an hour later and the new drive was up and running. It worked perfectly and is so much faster than the old drive.I used the standard (free)delivery but the drive was with me in just a couple of days so I would not go to the expense of special delivery unless it was really urgent. All in all a first class purchase.Liteon IHAS324-32 24x Internal DVDRW Black Retail SATAEdit (25 Nov 2013) has been in regular use now for over 3 years and it has never given the slightest problem. The computer is getting a bit 'old hat' but is still reliable.

A pretty nice little drive, seems to read and write fairly quickly, but I haven't tested extensively. I bought the internal SATA version. My only complaint with it as of now it the noise. I have a gaming rig with 4 fans all on around 1300 RPM, and this drive is still the loudest thing in my PC when it's booting. It's also very loud when reading or writing, but thankfully, it's silent when it's not active, thank God. Even when they're a disc in it, as long as it isn't being accessed, the drive will remain silent.Another very minor complaint is that the tray doesn't seem to like being pushed. If you push it hard enough, it will eventually go in, but it doesn't feel right and makes the tray curve a little. This is not improved by the fact that the button to close the tray properly is very hard to reach under the tray, or at least in the way the drive is positioned in my PC case.Other than those little complaints, still a good drive, pleased with it for the price.

Neat slim little DVD RW by Liteon. The case is white plastic and feels rather flimsy as does the drawer mechanism for loading the DVDs. It is USB2 so simply plug in and it works straight out of the box. It reads DVDs and CDs fine. I have not yet tried to write to a CR R or DVD R. It is quite noisy starting up but once going settles to a gentle hum. It can be also plugged directly into the USB slot of most modern TVs to play DVDs. The DVR RW is accompanied by a trial version of Nero 12 software but this only works with Windows machines. The DVD RW will work with Apple iMacs (and Macbooks which have a USB2/3 port) but you will need an adapter for USB C. Apple IOS aleardy contains the necessary software to play and burn CDs and DVDs.Overall it seems quite a good productUpdate - ve now tested the DVD Writer - a 600MB MP3 film took about five minutes to write to DVR, verify and finish using a Verbatim DVD -R disc and produced an excellent quality copy.

I bought this to replace a (very) old Samsung burner that wasn't working property. While this device works perfectly fine, it felt slower than the faulty drive it was replacing. After a while of using it and feeling it was slow, I ended up buying some compressed air and dismantling the ancient Samsung drive and giving it a thorough clean. On putting it back together, I discovered it was running great and haven't had a spot of bother since. However, by using both drives in tandem it confirmed my hunch that the new drive didn't have a consistently high read rate to match the Samsung. This isn't a major problem as I only use drives for archival purposes these days, or for some game that hasn't appeared on GoG yet,and so far the drive is working like a charm - I've been using it on and off for the past 8 months without issue. I'd be curious to see if it lasts as long as the drive it was supposed to replace!

Using a SATA to USB adapter on a couple of laptops, I tried one of these with -R and +R media of several types with no issues at all. Discs burned and verified flawlessly. In operation, the drive was not as loud as many I've used and stayed pretty cool.I have had drives over the years that would struggle to read certain discs, but this one was happy reading some old DVD-Rs that were burned on a (2002) DVD Video Recorder. This didn't slow to a crawl or make worrying noises like some previous drives did with the same discs, which left me confident that I'd be able to read most of my old media on it.I hadn't noticed it in the specs, but the label on the base has the M-Disc logo so it's a bonus that it's able to use those longer-life media too.I'll probably pick up another of these drives to have on standby.

What more can I say. My iMac DVD drive had started to play up and then wouldn't play anything, CD or DVD. It would cost me more than this to get someone merely to look at it so when I plugged it in, inserted a DVD and it played straight off the bat I was chuffed. The tray is quite a flimsy unit so you do have to be careful with it and sometimes you have to disconnect the lead from the back in order to get the eject button to function but I suspect that is a problem with the software I was using rather than the unit. Great little piece of kit and at a great price too. Will also work on my Macbook Air so a winner all round. The USB is not hard wired into the back of the unit but I think this makes it better for chucking in a bag if you are on the move as it won't bend or break the power cable. Recommended!

I purchased this DVD-RW to replace an old LG writer in an external case , I am using windows 10 pro with a Intel 3770 chip with an Asrock motherboard . Apparently there are windows 10 problems with external writers . I am running it via a USB 3 external hub. I have found in the past that the external DVD-RW connected via usb hub kept disconnecting , did a bit of research on this and found one solution was too untick the power saving option in the properties of the USB hub in windows , since I have done this the problems have ceased to exist . As for the drive I have found it to be very good fast efficient and have had no problems with it . I think in modern computers optical drives are ceasing to be compulsory to a modern build ,I cannot see this myself . I would recommend this drive .

One of those unexpectedly good moments, where I realised I didn't have a cover for the disc drive like on my old pc as part of the pc case, but the front of it matched up with the front of the case anyway; most of the fronts of disc drives are black these days, or at least the ones in the pictures on this page. In all seriousness, it's a disc-drive, which in my case, has seen light to medium use, and works as well as you could expect any brand new disc drive to work. Doesn't look like anything special, but watching people's brains get blown out in a Tarantino film (as a result of this disc drive being installed correctly) makes the satisfaction a lot better. Also plays other films.

Bought this because of the price and was sick of using USB's predominantly as my main way to transfer data. I bought the "24x internal kit" as I wanted to mount it inside my case out of the way, rather than having the USB version cluttering up my work space. The box contains:1 x DVD drive1 x Warranty Information1 x Trial version of Nero12 Essentials1 x Quick start guideIt's good to note that you will need to supply your own SATA cable as one is not supplied. In operation the drive operates as it should, and no problems have been observed. Installation is simple, and inexperienced users can follow the straight forward, easy to understand quick start guide.Recommended!

From previous experience with building PC's I know only too well how much noise these things can make. They can be louder than anything else in the room! This is why I paid a little bit more than the slightly cheaper models available. I wanted something that would hopefully be a little quieter than a previous purchase. After installing this into the PC and switching it on, I was so pleased to hear that this is not just a little quieter than my previous purchase but it is a lot quieter. It is probably the quietest CD/DVD drive I've had.I have only burnt one DVD disc so far but it's also been used to read several discs and so far I am more than happy with my purchase.
