The Kensington SD5200T is a Thunderbolt 3 docking station that allows you to utilise the massive 40 Gigabit bandwidth of the Thunderbolt 3 technology to connect an array of devices through one single cable. It seems to be geared to more professional environments such as office spaces, but is also suitable for home use as well. Thunderbolt 3 uses the exact reversable connector as USB-C, but it is important to be aware that you need a device with a Thunderbolt 3 compatible port as this dock won’t work from a regular USB-C port. For my testing, I used this dock with my Macbook Pro that has four Thunderbolt 3 Ports. The dock has a variety of I/O ports that can all run off the included power adaptor and a single Thunderbolt 3 cable. You get 1x Gigabit Ethernet port, 1x USB 3.0 port, 1x USB 3.0 with 2.1a charging port, 1x microphone port, 1x headphone port, 1x Kensington Lock port, 1x Thunderbolt ports, 1x Thunderbolt computer connection port with 85-watt power delivery, 1x 20W DC-IN with included power brick, 1x Displayport++ and 1x USB-C 5Gbps port with 15W charging. You can buy additional adaptors to convert Displayport into HDMI ports if your display does not support it, but it would have been nice to see a HDMI Port built into the dock itself as Displayport++ Daisy Chaining is not supported in Mac OS, and if you want to drive two screens with a Mac you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter as well as a Displayport to HDMI adaptor. The dock has a slim and compact design that looks and feels premium with the outer brushed aluminium and chamfered edging, and the top has a moulded matte plastic case that does not detract from the quality of finish. The dock is very lightweight, however the included power brick weighs considerably more than the dock itself. This isn’t a problem in a static environment but if you plan on taking this dock with you on the go then you may want to consider the added weight of having to carry an external power brick, as the dock wont function without it. The power brick does come with a UK & European plug, and you get a decent amount of cable length from the Adaptor to the Dock. What’s not so good is the super short 0.5m Thunderbolt 3 Cable you get in the box, it would have been nice to get at least a 1m cable so bear this in mind as you might need to purchase a longer Thunderbolt 3 Cable.Connecting the docking station to my Macbook Pro was pretty much plug-in and play and everything started working straight away without needing to install any additional drivers. My Macbook started charging straight away and was ready for use. I ran a test on my external SSD and saw full speeds with no slowdowns. Driving is display is easy through Mac OS and works just as you’d expect it would where you arrange your display locations in system preferences and it remembers the configuration next time you plug it in. The dock gets very mildly warm when in use, due to it transferring power to all of the connected devices. The Kensington Dockworks software is an optional additional piece of software that can automatically turn off Wi-Fi when you plug in and automatically connect you to ethernet. The problem is that this isn’t seamless or instant, it takes a good 20+ seconds for it to disconnect from Wi-Fi & reconnect using Ethernet which may not sound like a lot of time, but in this scenario it takes you offline and it could be massively inconvenient, especially if you were doing file transfers or video calling. To be honest, I wouldn’t bother with this software as you can set a service order in Mac OS automatically sort network connections which works a lot better. For Windows devices; your mileage may vary and you might need to use the software, so it’s good to know that Kensington has thought ahead for this but the execution is not perfect, however it could improve with software updates over time.Overall, this is a good Docking station solution that makes it easy to connect multiple peripherals and devices through one single cable. Let's make it quite clear from the off that this *WILL NOT WORK* with your device if you don't have a genuine Thunderbolt 3 connector. It might look like a USB C port superficially, but there's a big difference between them from a functional perspective. I have two Windows laptops - one has a Thunderbolt 3 port and works fine with this device (apart from charging from it) - the other has an identical looking standard USB C port which does not. A genuine Thunderbolt port should have a 'lightning bolt' icon next to it.To plug your machine into the dock, there is a rather short (500mm) Thunderbolt 3 cable provided. Genuine Thunderbolt cables are quite expensive - especially when 1m or longer (like £30+),so you might want to check that a 500mm cable will suffice for your preferred setup, or you might get a nasty shock looking for a suitable replacement.Once you're connected, you will need to run the Thunderbolt utility (at least in Windows 10) which I believe was automatically installed (or at least 'awoken') by the dock being plugged in for the first time. It just suddenly appeared in my Windows 10 application list as a newly added app. You then need to go into the app and enable the detected dock so that your machine can connect to it, and its attached devices. If you don't do this, your PC won't see anything you attach to the dock.To connect a monitor, you can use the full sized Displayport on the back (as I have done) with or without an adapter to allow it to connect to other formats - HDMI or DVI. It works absolutely fine with my HD monitor. You can also add a second if you want via one of the Thunderbolt ports and a USB C to video adapter. My laptop (a Lenovo P50) doesn't support charging via its Thunderbolt port, but smaller, and less power-hungry machines do. Just check if yours is one. The charging port can provide up to 85W of power - the power brick supplied is massive - and probably weights as much as the dock itself.Once it's up and running, it's as reliable as any dock I've used. I think they could have added a few more standard USB 3 ports for people who can't daisy-chain peripherals over Thunderbolt, but it is what it is. This is obviously firmly targeted at the Thunderbolt crowd. It looks great (brushed metal and high quality plastic), it feels great (it has a reassuring heft to it, and it doesn't scoot across the desk under the weight of dangling cables).Whether this is a hit or a miss for you is going to depend on your degree of Thunderboltedness. For me personally - my laptop is not really what this is aimed at - I have a big, chunky laptop covered in video and USB ports. This is designed for ultra-thin laptops that only have Thunderbolt ports, and are capable of being charged through them. If you're one of those people - this might just be perfect for you.

This is a top notch bit of kit if being used at a permanent location as I wouldn't suggest trying to use this as a portable device due to its weight and size. Many features to this product but the main one that sticks out is the fat it is a plug and play item which is outstanding given the amount of ports and the capabilities of it.Ideally, this needs to be secured to a permanent location to maximize the safety elements. A brilliant key fob set up is "next level" in this sort of gadget. The amount f ports and capabilities this offers it phenomenal but id be thinking £279.66 is a little expensive to not be portable. It is a long old review to write so I have copied and pasted the main pointersto know about if you haven't browsed the info page.Best-in-class Thunderbolt 3 docking experience with next generation laptop locking Technology, Kensington delivers a 2-in-1 docking and locking solution for both Windows and Mac; this is the single-use model.Thunderbolt 3 Dock for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air 2018 W/Retina display, and Windows supports 4K Ultra HD simultaneously (4096 x 2160 30-bit colour @ 60 Hz) on two monitors, or 5K 60Fps to a single monitor via DisplayPort and ONE of the Thunderbolt 3 ports (USB-C to DisplayPort); delivers 85W power to charge the laptop; 1.5' TB3 cable included; your laptop must be designed to support Power Delivery via Thunderbolt to provide chargingTwo Thunderbolt 3 ports; DisplayPort; four Super speed USB 3.1 ports (5V/0.9A); Gigabit Ethernet port; combo 3.5mm audio in/Out port; Kensington Lock slot; scratch-resistant bumpers line the back wall and base to protect your laptop from cosmetic damage; 3 year Warranty and lifetime technical supportLock your MacBook (including touch Bar models), MacBook Air, thin & light PC, and other thin laptops with the 11"-15" Adjustable security arms; provides unobstructed access to the laptop’s side ports and does not require any laptop modifications; k-fob smart lock technology combines encrypted security with the simplicity of keyless locking (includes 2 k-fobs)Locking options: 1) Tether to any fixed structure with the removable cable lock (included) which is UNLOCKED along with the security arms by the k-fob; 2) use the Kensington Lock slot (standard size) and a separate Kensington cable lock (not included) to secure for situations where the dock will stay in the same place but a laptop is going to move around; 3) attach to a desk with two screws via the hidden pre-drilled mounting hole on the bottom of the dock.Sounds great and looks great so yes this is a great item but only you can decide if this is really something you need.

There are quite a few things to note about this Kensington Docking Station, and I think the first is to do with Compatibility. The Amazon listing gives a very broad Compatible With the description "Secures thin and light laptops 11-15” in size, including models from Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo and other manufacturers."What I did not appreciate until got it, is that the doc has no fixed connector, instead, it clamps itself around the structure of your laptop and then you simply connect your laptop with the dock using a USB C / Thunderbolt cable.Moving on to the build quality, this dock is SOLID. It is super heavy and designed to be left/fixed on a desk and not carried around. The security of locking your laptop is good, and I really like the 2 key fobs that come with it, which release the clamp and allow you to remove the laptop. If you are looking to simply expand on the number of ports your laptop has, then I would suggest a USB HUB or similar as it is MUCH cheaper, and lighter to carry around. If however, you are looking for a DOCK, this is a serious piece of kit.Its over £200, so by no means a cheap piece of kit, but it certainly is built to last! It's very decent.

This is a high quality docking station with brilliant expansion:Fast ethernet port, dual 4k graphics display ports, 4 x USB3 ports. This connects to your laptop using a usbc cable (supplied). It also docks your laptop securely. You would need to wrap the supplied metal cable to a table leg, then insert the end into the dock. It then electronically can be opened using one of the two fobs supplied, simply by presenting it to the side of the dock - this then operates a motor and the locking mechanism opens up. You manually push the clamps against the side of the laptop screen. It is impossible to open it without the fob. It's also impossible to remove the laptop from the dock without it being open.I'm sure someone could cut the metal security cable with bolt cutters, but this would be a suitable dock for an office or similar where this simply wouldn't happen. The display port made a much better quality presentation than my laptops built in graphics card. I've used it to connect to my 4k TV and the quality is superb.

I got this for myself. As technology is improving and someone like me who loves gadgets needs to connect a lot of devices together so I brought this docking station with plenty of outputs to suit my needs.Ports available are HDMI/DVI / VGA with USB 3.0 Ports / Gigabit Ethernet Port and Audio Jack etcI'm using this unit as the central hub and its working really well. From connecting my laptop to TV to additional monitor and even my external hard drives. This works well and is really fast with the latest 3.0 superspeed USB connection.I'm currently using windows 10 and there is no lag or anything.

Great at bringing together all your gadgets. There are plenty of ports available including HDMI and VGA as well as the typical USB ports etc. For a general hub it’s good and relatively small in size, quite weighty when you taken into consideration the power block. The only downside I would say is that the actual Thunderbolt 3 cable is too short and a longer cable can set you back a bit. Once it’s set up it can be a great piece to have everything hooked up to especially with the 85W power delivery but it is fairly expensive for my day to day needs.

This docking adaptor is made out of extremely high quality materials and is very sturdy. I feel extremely confident in leaving my laptop in it in a public space/ communal space. It is rather heavy and the box is strong enough for storage. All of the connections are up to standard and as specified, with the connectors themselfs feeling very high quality and strong
