My 4yr old girl loves this and it's everything the product description says it is.I can only assume that the 1 star reviews where people state that 'Lucy' doesn't respond to voice commands, have either received a faulty product OR they're somehow misunderstanding how it works. I didn't bother to 're-train' this to respond to a different name, so that may have something to do with it, but 'Lucy' responds to all the included commands, virtually all of the time. 'She' has problems when there's a lot of background noise and when my little girl doesn't quite say the words in the right way. For example, asking 'Lucy' to sit, needs the word "sit" to be said in a short, sharp way for it to be recognised. The same is true of some of the other commands; asking 'Lucy' to lie down, seems to work better if you say "Lay down". Ultimately, the voice recognition isn't perfect but for a toy at this price point, I think it's pretty good. The dog itself is nice and fury, with long floppy ears, a big black nose and puppy-dog eyes. She has about 15 commands you can issue; the way this works is you say the dog's name first (it defaults to 'Lucy' but you can change it), wait for 'Lucy' to bark once, then you issue the command. This was a Christmas gift so I can't really vouch for its longevity but so far, I'm very pleased with it (and so is my daughter).

We purchased Lucy the dog for our daughter for Christmas, but somehow she managed to get it from us early! She is 5 years old and absolutely loves it. Lucy quickly became one of her favourite toys. The dog itself is of a good size and came nicely boxed and suitably packaged for transit. The toy itself is slightly intermittent, like other reviews have stated, and doesn't really listen to our 5 year olds commands, or my own for that matter. My husband however, can get Lucy to complete all of her commands with ease, so i'm assuming a deep male voice is required to see the full potential of this toy. Lucy has given my daughter hours of enjoyment and has not yet been shoved away in a toy box and forgotten about. She has lots of features, such as standing on her head, digging, sitting, barking and giving kisses. We've enjoyed Lucy so much we have purchased a second for our 3 year old god daughter.

Lucy was delivered faster than expected, well packaged and ready to be given to my 6 year old daughter for her Christmas present from Santa. However, the seeming nightmare began and endured for several days. She did not appear to do as commanded. I tried in vain to get some advice from the well known large toy shops, but no help was forth coming from any one. Today 29th December, giving that my daughter did not want to part with Lucy as a (seeming faulty) toy, I finally found out that all that we needed to do was to follow the very last command on the sheet of commands provided; that is to call the puppy's name, wait for it to bark once then to give her one of the many commands possible. The commands must be exactly as stated on the 'Functions of Lucy' sheet or she will get confused. Good luck to all Lucy lovers, mine is over the moon.

Bought for my daughters 4th birthday and she likes it. It takes a bit of training for it to work properly... by which I mean you need to train the dog the tricks...but you also have to train your child on HOW to use it. We are getting there now though.Basically you need to say "Lucy" (or which ever name you choose) wait, she barks once, then you give command like "Sit" etc. but trying to get a excited 4 year old to wait for the bark with out just saying "Lucy..LUCY,,,luuucccyy" then "sit, SIT, SIT" is a bit hard. And then trying to make it happen when 5 more children are there is nearly impossible.definitely needs to be done when everyone is chilled out and has time to work it out properly

My 5 year old daughter spotted Lucy the dog on a tv advert. She was instantly sold and since receiving the toy she hasn't been disappointed. After reading other reviews, I was a little concerned that the voice commands would be a problem. Sometimes it appears that Lucy is not hearing, but my daughter, whose speech can sometimes be quiet and a little muffled, can still get her to perform the basic commands of "sit", "bark" and "hello". It's encouraging to see my daughter working at pronouncing her commands loudly and clearly. When voice commands fail, there are three easy to feel buttons (nose, ear and back) which activate all of Lucy's functions. We're very pleased with Lucy.

Our first lucy the dog arrived and was opened to much excitement only to find the voice activation did not work. A swift email to Amazon and a new one on the doorstep the very next day. Fantastic customer service. Now we have a working Lucy the fun begins. As many say it's not 100% reliable and needs a room not fully of children's screams but somewhat hard as my two daughters love it. Even when she gets it wrong it's just hilarious. It will be interesting to see how long it hold attention but is definitely the favourite toy and you can see why.Great idea, we'll built, yet cute and cuddly and a wide range of voices commands.I'd definitely recommend

Surprised by Amazon delivering when it was out of stock and I was expecting to wait ages so kudos to Amazon.Birthday present for 4yo and after pestering me for almost a 24hr period until I gave in, the LO was at first disappointed because she couldn't get Lucy to do the things she saw her do in the adverts. Commenced a frustrating couple of days in which we both tried to get her to work. Finally decided to re-read the instructions - which are written in miniscule print so recommend magnifying glass - and hey presto she worked! So my advice is read the instructions very carefully and be patient and she is a decent toy.

I have to say that my daughter (age 6) loves her Lucy dog despite frequently being frustrated that she cannot always get her to do any of the things she is meant to. I have actually now got the hang of it most of the time but even explaining it to her my ddaughter still gets her timing wrong with instructing Lucy and then gets cross with the lack of response. Despite this she is happy with the odd random success and the fact that she can still treat Lucy like a soft toy.So on the whole we are pleased we got Lucy for her, I would just recommend that your prepare yourself for having a bit of patience.

This is such a cute toy! She is beautifully made and looks adorable. But the real joy comes from watching my daughter play and interact with Lucy. There were squeals of delight when Lucy first responded to my little girls' voice. It has taken a few goes for my daughter (age 4) to get the hang of it - you have to say Lucy's name, wait for her to bark and then give the instruction - but she has learnt how to do this now. Also, good value for money - cheaper than some of the other Club Petz range but the play quality is just as good.

I hate Lucy. My daughter loves her. If I have to hear 'lucy....sit' or that incessant barking again I may scream.Easy to set up, I agree with the other reviews that she takes a little time to respond on occasion - not helped by my five year olds sudden lisp appearance when speaking to the dog.Batteries last FOREVER and you will quite happily strangle the dog by the time she's gone off three times in the night because she's being cuddled.Well worth the cost (in the eyes of a 5 year old anyway)

My grandchildren, aged six and four, absolutely love Lucy. She does everything she is meant to do.The only problem is that as Lucy reasponds to verbal commands we find that the children have difficulty being sufficiently clear and decisive in their commands to make her obey.My daughter, being adult, has no such problems,so Lucy responds well to the right technique. All in all,a very successful present for a little boy who would love a real dog.

Great little dog! You have to sit down and read instructions properly otherwise she won't work!! My daughter is 5 and i feel she's at the right age for this toy to get its full potential. Lucy does all the tricks including standing on her head, shake hands, sit etc. she doesn't always do as she is told but what dog does?! Great product for the price. Not a one day wonder unlike many other toys!

Great price, great to be available during the time when this was the most desired toy if the Christmas 2013! Great dog, does more than any other toy dog iv seen! Better than the usual! Girls will love this dog. Commands are hard to relay need clarity in the speech but my kids still enjoy Lucy a year on!Speedy delivery alsoThanks for making my girls Christmas dream come true!

Total hit with both our 6 and a half year old and 3 and three-quarters year old granddaughters. Some reviews said it was difficult to get to work but even the younger child managed it very quickly and, as they set off home to Miami, it was in the top of her backpack ready for use whenever they were sitting around waiting at the airport - hope it survived the flight!!!

best present I have ever bought my wife !!!! I am sure Lucy ( Baby) is real she come to life at any time and goes thru her routine - she is a bit stubborn in taking orders but when she does decide to she goes thru a whole routine and waits for more - she wont take any orders from me which is the way it is supposed to be - gives the wife a pet all of her own.
