Ink used to be made from Oak Galls. It's called oak gall ink or iron gall ink. The old monks used it, as did Pliny that old fella. You can still make it today and it's great for calligraphy. Basically you mix up oak galls (or apples) with vinegar and boil it, strain it and write with it. Now that is proper ink that makes you work for it.Not like this stuff. Ink? It's more like soot or something monstrous.Mind you, trying to pour your own oak gall ink into your printer is a) messy; and b) futile. You just end up with ink all over the floor and a fused printer.Consequently, you have to buy this stuff. And my-oh-my is it expensive. I paid twenty-three pounds and forty-five pence in October 2019.For that I received two tiny cartridges with tiny amounts of soot. The printer only cost eighty pounds but now I am paying a quarter of that every couple of months. That's why I can't give it five starts. Oh yes, my friends and foes, it is a fine quality product and works as you would expect and as you want ... but the price is eye-watering.Bring back those printers that printed onto side-holed fanfold paper. Clatter clatter clattery-clatter.That was proper printing, none of this photo-realistic nonsense.Or better a daisy wheel ... ooh typewriters i like you.So, buy and be done. Or opt out and use a typewriter instead.-x-

We have the HP Officejet 5740, an excellent printer. I have always used HP cartridges, so perhaps my review is uninformed in a sense, since I have nothing to compare them to ... ! In another life, a long time ago, there was a Canon, and I think we still used HP cartridges ...Anyway, if you are buying an HP cartridge, buy the XL version. As another reviewer points out, you will get at least three times the print run for about double the price. My friends, some of whom are IT boffins, never tire of telling me how the companies give you the printer for next to nothing, then rip the backside out of it by huge markups on the ink. Here at Combe Florey I soothe their anger by giving them a Pimms on the terrace, and explaining that the whole reason for your being in this Vale of Tears is so that you can be ruthlessly exploited by Mr Businessman. This is my way of saying that these cartridges are indeed ridiculously expensive. Nevertheless, they are easy to change and produce very high quality results. I may have got this one gratis from the Vine Programme but I assure you that, all things remaining well with me, I will be buying many more of them. Also, may I repeat what a fantastic printer the 5740 is ... ? It and these cartridges print marvellously detailed and lifelike photographs, over and above their first rate 'office' jobs.

Today I am reviewing HP 62XL High Yield Original (Tri-Colour) Ink Cartridges from HP.Not really a great deal I can say about this product.I have always found HP's printers to be really high quality, and the 'original ink' to be of equally high quality (no leaks/spills, and consistent quality printing).Yes, the price of the product is relatively high......but you do get what you pay for in this instance. The ink fitted our HP Envy 5640 just fine, and I have had no problems at all printing using them.If a product I receive arrives/works as described, but (within a sensible timeframe) stops working/breaks, I will update my review/s to reflect this.My opinions are entirely my own,and not influenced by any 3rd party person/company.Thank you for taking the time to read my review, and if you like my review/s, then please do take the time to click the 'yes' button to say the review was helpful. Similarly, if you do not like my review/s, then please feel free to click 'no'. It's always better to have 'quality' reviews of products on Amazon as this helps not only the people buying the products, but also the manufacturer/supplier of the product.

I just got a new HP Envy 5546 printer and received 2 small hp 62 cartridges that didn't last very long at all so these seemed a much better - the capacity is said to be 600 pages rather than 200 at just twice the price so definitely better value, haven't counted exactly but have done several document runs and it is still going strong. The cartridge provides good clear back ink and was accepted as a genuine cartridge, no problems as one reviewer mentioned. I still think printer cartridges are quite pricey but as I need to do printing of good quality for my work with a charity I am glad to find something that saves a little bit of money.

I needed a cheap colour printer and ended going for the HP Envy, which fit the bill. Of course the problem with inkjet printers is the cost of cartridges, although compatible ones are fairly cheap these days some printers will limit the use from non-genuine ones so I'd rather stick with the genuine ink cartridges. The biggest plus with these cartridges is how simple it is to change them, easiest I've ever known. And the XL cartridges offer approximately three times as much page yield compared to the normal cartridges, for approximately double the price, so the value is there and the print quality is good for my cheap little printer.

HP 62XL is compatible with my printer and perfect for our needs for home, school and office work. The colour is always consistent with no problems.I like the High Yield cartridges as you get around 600 pages of printing which is well worth the price. It turns out to be better value for money in the long run.We have used a couple of other brands as far as printers go, but always come back to HP as we know what we are getting....good quality and good value. We also use the High Yield for our colour cartridges and are equally impressed. It is worth paying that slight bit extra for the output you get from it.

Great value for money. Bought this ink cartridge for my new printer back in February. Its now August and ink levels are registering at halfway empty. I use my home printer everyday for work, printing postage labels, invoices and things, so I need a lot of ink. I thought this would only last a couple of months or so, but I've had it for 7 months now and its only half empty so I'm very impressed. Highly recommended and when I bought it the price worked out to 3p per sheet of paper. That's a lot better than 12p per sheet that I was paying for my last printers ink cartridges. Will be buying again.

If you ever felt like you really needed to replace the black ink in your HP printer, this will really hit the spot.I was so impressed with how amazingly readable my essays and assignments were, after I put a full cartridge in to my printer. You will be surprised at how hard it is to convince someone that you have actually spent hours typing up a piece of work, when none of the words appear on the page.I'm not gonna lie, I was on for a low 2:2at best before this product came along, but now my work can be read, it's a top class first for me!

Obviously this is a very high quality HP black printer cartridge compatible with HP printers that use the 62 range of cartridges. The XL refers to it being high yield. It is a little more expensive as a result, but it represents significant value for money and savings on printing costs, as it will give you a lot more black printing capacily (an estimated 600 pages of text type printing, as compared to the 200 of a regular 62 ink cartridge). This ink cartridge works with HP ENVY 5540/5546/5640/7640, HP OFFICEJET 200/5740Highly recommended!

Decent value at £20 (at time of review) for 600 pages, giving a cost of 3p per page, for an original printer cartridge. HP quality ink and precision cartridge gives great results every time.Really, this should be the standard capacity - why are HP even selling partially filled ink cartridges? We know why - to maximise profits at the expense of the environment - and it makes me angry to think about it ...But focussing on this product alone, it is definitely worth buying this over the partially-filled versions.

Great value for money for an XL which holds more ink and therefore allows more printing than the standard size – I have paid more previously for the standard one on the high street. Ink cartridge was genuine, and it slot into the printer easily. Sheet aligned without an issues. I bought this cartridge mid-February. It’s now August and ink levels are registering at halfway empty which is great considering how much I have been printing. Will be buying again in the future and I highly recommend.

This HP 62 dual pack contains a black cartridge and a tri-colour cartridge at a considerable saving over buying them individually. I've owned quite a few printers from all the major brands over the years and these cartridges represent excellent value for money and deliver good quality results making them ideal for the light to medium user - I'd estimate the yield at between 150 - 200 pages. There is also the option of high capacity versions if you are a heavier user.

Have tried several cheaper or refilled HP style cartridges and it pains me to actually say the original HP cartridges seem to work the best. (Please excuse me whilst I gag and wash my mouth out with soap ;o) ).I'll continue to try other alternatives, but if you need high quality print work for whatever purpose, the originals do the job. Have removed a star for value for money, HP insist on seriously bloating the prices of these cartridges!!
