I finally received my HORI “Hands On Throttle And Stick” flightstick for my PS 4 and especially Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Flightstick set doesn’t include the 6 page instruction manual, the inner flaps of the box advise you to get it online and to set the joystick pad’s front switch to PS 3 (if you aren’t using the PS4).Compared to HORI’s old light gray-green ugly “Ace Edge” edition flightstick for Xbox 360’s AC 6 (the same first gen flightstick looked much better in black as the model “2” for the PS2 or the model “EX” for the Xbox 360), it now features the same improved design as the HORI flightsticks released in 2012 for the PS3 (“3”) and the Xbox 360 (“EX2”)which thankfully featured a more realistic joystick (which is an amalgam of real life jet fighter joysticks).Compared to the first gen HORI Ace Combat flightsticks, the pads haven gotten thinner in width but longer in depth (and lost weight: 25% throttle pad but only 15% for the joystick one). Both pads are 158.5 mm wide and 228.5 mm deep. Throttle pad is 48 mm tall at the front and 42 mm at the pilot’s side, joystick pad is 61 mm tall at the front and 42 mm and 30 mm at the pilot’s side (it’s strange that HORI Japan published different measurements on their product page, especially since it’s the basic model used since 2012!). The RJ connector of the throttle pad’s cable (approx. 1 m / 3 ft. long) plugs into the joystick pad, whose USB cable connecting to the PS4 is 3m / 10 ft. long, but I used a USB extension cable to connect that to the PS4 because I still sit further away (projection screen). Some assembly is required, as you have to turn in the suction cups at the base of each pad (no screw threads, HORI please consider these for future flightsticks), so the surface these stick upon has to be plain and slick. Tinkerers might be able to use the suction cups’ holes for a fixed installation. And for the joystick you can add a rubber handrest extender which I found helpful. EDIT: A user at acecombatskies recommends self adhesive velcro tape which will probably be the easiest solution for many to fix the pads to a surface.Regarding the PS4 button layout for the flightstick's control buttons, please check out the overview at amazon.com or at horiusa.com (better clarity) or download the instruction manual.Having gotten used to HORI’s older flight stick “EX” for AC 6 I’m happy to report that handling of the new combo was equally good, I didn’t spot a difference worth writing home about. IMHO that’s the way an Ace Combat game should be played (and I for one find myself unable to return to the DualShock controller), and the new countermeasures button to dispense flares (combining L3 + R3) is a dream, I only wished I’d be able to carry more flares during missions.Just one thing that still needs a fix and should have been available from the start: Plugging the HORI flightstick combo's USB cable into my PS4, the AC 7 menu acknowledged it found a "flightstick" but erroneously and exclusively interpreted my HORI AC7 flightstick to be the THRUSTMASTER "T.Flight HOTAS 4"! Apparently there is no software patch, yet, for the PS4 to identify the HORI flightstick and to provide their exact in-game functions (although they follow the functions for the dualshock controller) AND options when changing the setting of the "throttle / rudder toggle switch".The latter one is quite problematic. According to the official HORI instruction manual you are supposed to choose throttle switch Setting 1 when you want to use the throttle for acceleration and deceleration of your jet fighter, but in my (particular?) case that only did work in Setting 2. As a nice side effect the "High-G Turn" function is now delivered by the L1+R1 button below the joystick trigger and Autopilot is available by holding the L2+R2 button on the throttle lever (playing the DLC Version of Ace Combat 5, however, required Setting 1).

I read a lot of the negativity but I also kept in mind why I got this, and that was for VR. The thrustmaster doesnt feature force feedback and I really liked that when taking off and sometimes in the air. I wished it vibrated while firing a machine gun. The elephant in the room is the dead zone. At the time of writing there was version 1.0.1 being updated rumoured to improve some input methods, but its not as bad as people are making out, coming from someone who underatands this isnt a full on flight sim, its an advanced arcade game. Its not as arcadey as After Burner, and I love arcade games, so having this setup is as close as ill ever get to having such an arcade experience at home and if thats you and what you want, youre like me and you wont be disappointed. Stick this stick between your legs and when you look down in the game and you move the stick, the pilot also does and thats so cool and immersive, the best vr experience i have ever had, hands down. Yes it feels plasticy but trust me, the thrustmaster is super cheap feeling. Both are over priced, and for the record the rudder can be moved with the finger adjustment and youre good to go. Stick the switch to narrow and it will feel less dead zoney, its a great experience and i just wanted to give feedback because hori do have a great stick here, if what youre after is pure immersion with vibration. If youre after finishing the game without vr then its maybe best to just not get this. I felt that with the VR this good, i had to get a force feedback stick.

I recently purchased Ace Combat 7 and got this with it. It's a game changer and makes it so much more fun. Combined with the VR, you can get lost in the game for hours. The audio jack is also a great bonus as it really helps immerse you. Would easily recommend!

Had great fun with it but after 4 months of use it does not respond to any pull back. So at the moment it is pretty useless. For the price of it I would expect it to last much longer.

Initially I thought it would take two months for the HOTAS to arrive, in the end it took a week! Love it... Quality is great, design is great. I can only recommend this set!
