Final Update: Failed after 5 years.Well after a break of a few months, I went to use my Venus 2 and instead of powering up properly, it just beeped at me sadly. So RIP after 5 years use.Update: Having lived with the Venus A2 for a little longer now, I wanted to add some points for consideration. Firstly, I've found myself the rapid warm-up time means I'm laminating more often than I previously did. I'm an odd combination of busy but lazy, so I really appreciate that laminating is no longer a bit of an event that requires some time set aside, and I can just laminate something quickly and get back to doing nothing. :-) One minor issue that's worth mentioning is that whilst the heat-up time is very quick, the cool-down time doesn't seem so fast. So if you're like me, and don't have your laminator set up for use but put it away after use, the somewhat extended cool-down time can be a little frustrating. Sure you can just switch the Venus 2's power off, but as there's a built-in cooling down time, I figure it's best to let it cool down at it's own speed. That niggle aside, this laminator rocks and is still a 5* product IMO.As anyone who has used a budget laminator knows, they are not fast. Our office at work managed with a sub-£50 Fellowes for years, but this Venus 2 is clearly a laminator intended for serious office use, and its speed and build quality reflects that. "Oof!" is likely to be the first thing you say when encountering the Venus 2. This Venus is more Williams than de Milo, and is quite a hefty thing. Personally, I like that in my electronics as it's a good indicator of a well-engineered product. A power switch on the back puts the Venus in standby mode, whilst a light touch of the pulsing power button on the top panel fires up the beast, which is quickly ready for action after powering-up. The manual says about 30 seconds from cold, and when I timed it I found that it was a little over 42 seconds from the rear switch being turned on, through the power up checks, me pressing the power button as soon as it stopped flashing until the 80 & 100 micron lights came on together with the 250 micron light being lit at 55 seconds. This is a LOT faster than my budget Texet LMA3-V, which though slow, has proved both satisfactory and reliable in use.So apart from speed, what else do you get for your money? Quality results. When I first looked at the output with a sheet of office A4 and some 2*75 micron pouches, I thought that the Venus was barely better than the budget Texet. Though when I looked closer, I found that there were little patches where the glue hadn't quite been melted correctly with the Texet. It was perfectly acceptable, but it wasn't perfect. However the Venus 2 was absolutely as it should be, with the laminate pouch bonded perfectly to the paper.I nipped out to Staples and bought the thickest laminate pouches I could get 2*125 micron A3. I put a fairly thick old poster into one of them and fed it into the Venus, ensuring I followed the helpful guide lights, and awaited the result. The first thing I noted was that, like a diner with a big piece of meat to chew, the Venus slowed down and passed the thicker, larger laminate through quite a bit more slowly. However when I checked the result, the Venus had bonded the pouch to the poster perfectly. In conclusion, for occasional home use, the Venus 2 is overkill. It's eye-wateringly expensive and a bit of a beast to accommodate. However for business use, this is a great piece of office equipment and well worth the asking price. Excellent!

If you are looking for a small, portable laminator - this isn’t the one for you (the Swordfish brand are the best of those I’ve found) - it’s too big and too heavy for that. Similarly, if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful product that may conk out after a few months and will give average looking results, then this isn’t for you either (I've worn out three, cheaper portable units in as many years). BUT this is a wonderful, serious performance laminator - ideal for small office, school, use etc. Yes, it has a reasonably large footprint, but then again it can take A3 so there is really no option. But, unlike almost every other laminator (except the aforementioned Swordfish)it looks like they have actually considered design. It looks sleek and smart - all shiny black with blue lights - which is as well as you are probably going to be leaving this on a surface due to the size. Aesthetically five stars all the way. Then you turn it on. Now with all the sub hundred pound laminators, this probably means making a few cups of coffee while it warms up. Not this one. 30 seconds and you are ready to go. That is fast. If you regularly need something laminated, those five minutes add up - in the past I’ve not laminated something because I couldn’t be bothered to wait and was in a hurry. Problem solved. I turned both this and my old laminator on at the same time - I had done six A4 items on the Venus before the other one was ready for the first. The quality of lamination is good - hot or cold (hot is better). No bubbles and out of several hundred I’ve laminated, I’ve had only two failures and both were my fault in not feeding the item properly. In fact, I could probably have rescued at least one by reversing the rollers (another plus that helps prevent jams). Feed is fast too. A4 tends to feed in about 10 seconds - it’s faster than my printer on quality setting. It auto selects temperature by “reading” the pouch thickness - a nice touch. I’ve put some fairly thick card through it and it coped no problem. It’s got some nice safety features too - it’s cool to touch even when in progress and has a cut off after 30 minutes of inaction. This scores on ecological, economical and safety measures. You can certainly pay less and some produce good quality but in my experience the durability is poor. This looks and feels like it is built to last. I will edit if this proves not to be the case!My only quibble in what is a first rate product is that the mains lead is pretty short. You do need to be very near an outlet. But other than that, my high expectations have been exceeded. Excellent product.

Laminator is heavily used and so far is standing up to the hammer staff give it. If you are laminating something small you have to put it in the centre and sometimes small things don't laminate well. However overall it has been good but it is still early days!

Great machine. Have laminated over 600 documents already. It's fairly quick and doesn't take long to warm up. I have not tried the cold laminating yet so unable to comment on that.

Quality laminator, heats up very quickly and laminates quickly. Worth the investment if you do a lot of laminating.
