I was bought a set of these for Christmas having done my research and request them. You will. need to shop around for the best price though as my relative did as they found them priced at everything from £10 (what they paid) to almost £30, which is not worth paying. No one seems to be 100% sure as to whether these are wax or oil based pencils, though people who know better than me seem to lean towards them being wax-based. Whatever they are made of they have very good break-resistance and come pre-sharpened but also take a very good point from my Staedtler dual hole tub sharpener. The pencils are hexagonal in shape (so they don't roll off a desk) and have the colour code on (I presume that's what it is)and a space to wrote your name, which hints at their intended market - children. Although Faber-Castell may see the Classic range as child-friendly (which they are) they are also good enough for adults use and in fact and very good indeed. The box they come in has a sort of slide out tab to enable you to all the two trays out more easily. This works well and produces two connected trays that can be folded out to stand up, though I found it wasn't all that stable. I would prefer a tin but the benefit of this method is that all the pencils are easily and quickly accessible and a tin would make the set more expensive. In use:The pencils have some really nice colours included and in choosing the 60 colours they have managed to avoid the mistake of some of my Chinese oil-based pencils in strangely omitting variety in come colour groups. Overall I was very happy with both the variety and quality of colours provided though there were a few colours that seemed (to my eyes) very close to each other in the purples and greens notably. The inclusion of a beige-type colour was welcome as that is often omitted.I copied some Johanna Basford images in mechanical pencil, outlined them in fineliner and then coloured them with the Faber-Castell's and was very pleased with the results. The pencils lay down pigment nicely but perhaps not as creamily as some of my oil-based pencils, though with less pencil dust left behind. The metallics work very well and I didn't find any dud colours. These pencils are not water-soluble and are not advertised as such but I thought that worth mentioning in case you had that expectation. The fine points enable accurate colouring or drawing and I didn't suffer from any breakages. Blending was okay but nothing extra special and if that is your main aim then these will work but may not be the very best pencils for you. I have had slightly better results from old-based pencils for blending and I am sure that if you spend more you will get better results still. One area that disappointed was use on black paper. Again the Chinese oil-based pencils stood out better though the metallics and lighter colours of these pencils did show up okay. Too be fair the test was maybe not ideal as my current black paper sketch pad is a disappointingly coarse Hobbycraft 80gsm one and I am struggling to find any media that it is suitable for!PROS:Colour choice is very good and 60 pencils give good variety.Break resistance - no complaints here.Sharpen to a good point.Value for money - depending on what you pay for them!Versatility - suitable for kids and adults.Decent amount of pigment laid down quite easily.Blend okay.Box enables easy access to pencils - ideal for impatient kids (and adults) ;)CONS:Watch that you don't overpay for them.Blending good but not stellar. Not lightfast but at this price they would't realistically be.Box will become tattered and unusable in due course I expect.OVERALL:I am pleased with these pencils. At the £10 my relative paid for them they punch well above their weight and despite the marketing towards children are very suitable for adults, too. With excellent break-resistance they make an idea family resource and the colour choice was very well chosen in my opinion. I can recommend these and I applaud Faber-Castell for making a very decent art product available for those without deep pockets.

I was really looking forward to these because so many reviews said they were vibrant, creamy and easy to work with but I found them very hard and very faded. They do blend with faint strokes and tedious layering but the texture isn’t soft so you really need to do a lot of work. The two most important shades - white and black - are very disappointing with white basically not layering onto anything and just smudging what’s there (so you can’t use it as a highlight for ANYTHING) and Black being very grainy and faded. Even the most vibrant of the reds burnished into my paper was faded and disappointing after several layers and I had to eventually use solvent (paint thinner)to get it remotely look brighter and denser (I’ve supplies two pics to demonstrate the difference after blending with solvent). For a starter set for those who’re not financially blessed, it’s alright but it’s not performing how I hoped. I find them very hard and not smooth and creamy - I suppose I’d need to go for the polychromos version for what I need but I don’t have a spare hundred quid.It did the job but I hoped for better seeing as the original price was over £20.Presentation is great, the pencils come out in a foldable holder that has all pencils arranged according to colour types so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.If the black and white had been creamier and darker I’d have been happy.

I bought these for my five year old daughter as a Christmas stocking filler as I was fed up of other high street branded pencils constantly breaking and feeling hard to use. I wasn’t disappointed, these are fabulous colouring pencils! They arrived safely (no broken leads) in a fold out, stand up case, (Just the bottom half of the pencils, you would have to put them back in the box to protect the top half) which you could keep them in? You have 60 lovely colours with a white space on the side of every pencil you can write your name in or your child’s name in if they are used for school. Now I am no artist, but these colouring pencils are lovely and soft to use and do not ware down quickly. They give a lovely colour on your paper. My five year old is not always light handed when using them and I have been pleasantly surprised how little they have worn down given the soft sensations of the colour when using them. So much so, I bought myself an adult colouring book so I can colour with her!Overall fabulous colouring pencils in a large range of colours, which are lovely to use. You will not be disappointed.

Been looking for some good pencils that don't feel like nails on a chalk board feeling when i'm using them. If that makes sense. Sometimes when i use coloured pencils, there's a feeling when colouring and the "lead" on the paper makes this weird feeling that seems to vibrate through my body. I would honestly rather listen to nails on a chalk board than suffer that feeling. These pencils do NOT give you that feeling!! They feel amazing. They look amazing! They also blend really nicely. You can choose to go heavy handed and then softly afterwards and get 2 different actual looks. Also depending on the strokes gives different appearances as well.I did have some other wax core/wopex pencils years ago when i first started colouring in again and i absolutely loved how they felt on the paper. I've been looking for some more to replace them with a much wider colour choice. Very happy with these!

I've previously used Staedtler Noris colouring pencils, and these are better colours, give a nicer finish, stay sharp longer, and don't snap NEARLY as much. The non-snapping (post-sharpening) is the biggest plus for these. With pretty much every other colouring pencils I've ever used, as I sharpen to a fine point, I've often found they will snap post-sharpening, or the "lead" will occasionally fall out, due to snapping just inside the wooden shaft. That almost never happens with these.I watched an Inside the Factory documentary about Faber-Castell, and it showed how they dip the leads in wax to prevent air pockets, which is what I credit with how well these hold together. The texture of the pencils is really satisfying - you can get good coverage, colour, and texture with little pressure.Metallic colours were a nice extra treat.Excellent - will buy again.

Fed up of cheap pencils from shops breaking and having to press very hard with them to get a lot of color out, and wanting to start colouring my hp colouring books i decide to buy a decent set of pencils, before looking i wasn't aware decent pencils were as expensive as they are. I wanted some there were going to be good but werent going to cost me loads of money after reading quite a few reviews i settled on these, at first i was going to go for a cheaper set but I'm glad i didn't these pencils are amazing they come in there own pack which can be stood up to display the avibule colours while still colouiring. These pencils are really good they don't seems to break anywhere near as easily as previous other breands i have bought they also have a nice pigment to them i will defo be buying more of this bre and when i can

Bought a Doctor Who colouring book along with these pencils as my last set were expensive and rubbish for shading. These pencils blend great for the price, they have a large range of colours and feel smooth to colour with. I absolutely love them, some of my favourite pencils. Super shocked at how cheap they were for the quality (I wasn't expecting much, just fed up of spending loads of money!)The picture quality is awful on my phone so the photo doesn't really give it any justice. Great for anyone who just wants to relax doing some adult colouring and blend and shade. (the clouds are a mix of 4 different pastel colours and blended amazingly with little effort needed)

I was disappointed in the range of colours - for example there isn't a cream. Also the colours have no names just numbers - though that's personal choice. The pencils do blend though not fantastically and are quite vibrant. I wouldn't recommend them for higher level artwork such as uni or college class or coursework. My 6 and 4 year old granddaughters were pleased with them when I passed them over. They find them easy and vibrant to use. So if you want an inexpensive set of pencils for children that they can use without pressing hard and blend their colours these are ideal.

Love these! Don't know much about colouring pencils as I've just started adult colouring books. Didn't want cheap pencils with no pigment or that were too oily/waxy... these are fab. Good colour range and work really well on paper and can be layered for more intense colours/blending colours.Metallics are a little disappointing but they are nice and do have a metallic sheen on paper, So they do work, just not as well as hoped.I'd buy again and recommend this product, excellent value for money and a good investment for the price.

I was tired of digging through the kids massive tub of lesser-quality coloured pencils to use for colouring in, so set about looking for some better quality ones. I'd always had good luck with Faber-Castell, and these seem to be no different. Smooth, vibrant colouring, and a nice selection of colours (you even get a few metallics). Also, they're in a segmented pullout that you can prop up on a table (or beside you on the couch, like I do), instead of having a mess to rummage through. Very happy with purchase.

I love these pencils - lots of colours to choose from including the metallic. Colours are vibrant and for the most part the pencils don't break although I have had some breakages on sharpening them. The barrel size is quite small and hexagonal but I have also got a set of their ergonomic triangular ones but they do not come in such a large pack. I do like these pencils though. I am not an artist so just use these for my colouring books when I just want to colour and destress which they are perfect for.

I bought these at the same time as a box of Crayola pencils, too... I've had these for almost two weeks now, with a much faster delivery than expected - even with lockdown in force. The crayons themselves are of excellent quality - I particularly like the skin tones, they go onto the paper so much easier than I remember the same colours from Crayola going on and all colours can be rubbed off with an eraser in the event that you make a mistake.I'll definately be buying these again.

This is actually the second set of these that we have bought. My daughter and I loved the first set so much, that I decided to get her her own set for her birthday. The pencils are perfect for general colouring. Those alone I love, but what makes this set even more special is the way that it stands up on its own. It's great to have all the colours so easy to see, without having to fish through a pencil case to find them or risk them rolling onto the floor. Can't praise this enough.

These are really nice middle ground pencils. If you want a better pencil crayon then the average ones but don't want to spend a fortune then these are great. A really nice softness that blends well. And the presentation is fantastic. They come in a box but the pencils are held in a stand which means you can see all the colours clearly when choosing which ones to use.More expensive pencils will be softer but for the price of these you can't fault them. Very happy!

I really like Faber Castell pencils and, for the cost, these are not a bad buy considering how many you get. I also prefer hexagonal to round but that is just my preference. There is a good variety of colours but I found one or two to be too similar and on the lighter shade so getting a darker blend was a bit difficult. The pencils themselves are of good quality, as you would expect from FC, but I think I would need to add to them to give me the shades I like.
