This is a great heater and I've bought three of them. They take a few minutes to heat up but once they get going they provide lots of heat and safely too. My elderly mother has one and she is a stubborn old moo who doesn't like to be told that it's dangerous to dry cloths and towels on a heater. Her MO is to put something on it then turn the heater off a few moments later so that it can dry from the residual heat. This is all very well if it's status is properly monitored and the heater is really off but she's starting to lose her memory and it has worried me in the past. Accidents usually have more than one cause and all it would take is for her to get distracted and forget that the heater is still on when something is on it.That's happened a few time and I've had to scold her for it. I guess we all start off as little kids and some of us finish off that way too. With these heaters I don't have to worry as much about Mum burning the pace down. It's not wise to ever put anything on any heater but the way these heaters work it would be hard to catch fire to anything even if it were directly on the top of it unless it were there for a long time.I have one in a large study/bedroom and it's placed at the other end of the room to my desk so well away from me. I switch on full first thing in the morning when it's cold (the central heating packed up long ago) and by the time I get back from the kitchen with a cup of coffee it has warmed the room up nicely. I give it about a half hour and then turn the 2nd switch off so only the one is on and the thermostat keeps the room at a nice temperature.I did use the timer on one of them a few times so I can verify that it works as it should however I'm just an ultra-safety-conscious kind of guy so I've never got into the habit of using it. I like to switch the heater on manually and be fully aware that it's on.The only reason I've given it 4 and not 5 stars is that the top of the heater does brown with time. It will start to turn halfway through it's first winter with regular use and that just looks a bit grubby. I've fitted plugs on all three with a neon rocker switches to make it easier to shut off the supply without actually removing a plug from the wall. The reason being that even with both switches in the "off" position all the neon lights light up so it's hard to see at a glance if the heater is on or off. For my money an indicator light should indicate! I'm in the habit of just using the rocker switch on the plug to know that the heater is completely off. I can't really see any point in having a red neon light on the heater if it is lit up when the switches are off - can you.The only other minor point I'd like to make is that the castors on the feet are not sturdy enough for any heavy mobility use. On the first one I got for my mother one side bent and broke in one winter after she had dragged it from one side of the room to the other and back. I managed to mend the castor but the whole heater went dead a short while later. It transpired that this was not the fault of the heater but rather my mother who thought it was perfectly OK to move the heater by pulling it by the cord as though she was taking a dog for a walk! That's definitely a no-no and she knows it now. I'm good with electrical stuff but this heater is riveted together and my attempts to open it to try to repair it failed and after trying to drill out the rivets unsuccessfully I just gave up and bought a new one. I now remind her of the incident and threaten her with the refusal of buying another one for her unless she looks after it. That seems to do the trick.Nothing is perfect but the design of this heater comes close and with careful use and no mother on the premises you'll have nothing to worry about. It's a well-designed and well-built product that I'd buy again without hesitation.

THE HEATERAs a radiator, I can't fault it. It is modestly priced, and it generates enough heat to warm a small to medium sized room quickly. I bought one for my daughter when her central heating temporarily packed up, and it was so effective I bought one for myself for emergency or occasional use. I use the lower heat setting to take the chill off a room, and the higher setting for when it's colder. The difference is noticeable within ten to twenty minutes.THE TIMERThe programmable timer, however, is a mess of poor design. The controls and display are at foot level, and not angled, so you have to crouch down low to use them or even see the display. Most times,I have to lift and tilt the entire radiator to see the dim display. Angling the display at 45 degrees would have made all the difference. That, however, is not the most significant design lapse. Once the unit has been connected to mains power for some time, it acquires enough charge in an internal battery to maintain both the clock time and the four on/off timer settings when they have been set. You can set up to four on/off times, at increments of 10 minutes, and when the heater is put into Auto mode from Manual, it turns on during the set intervals. Thus, it should be possible to operate the heater for optimal efficiency and economy, perhaps warming up a room half an hour before bedtime and the same before rising time. That's the theory. In practice, it's not that reliable. If the mains power is interrupted for any reason, however briefly (such as another device in the home tripping the RCD protection at the mains box), and is then restored, the Dimplex reverts immediately to Manual mode, even if previously set to Auto mode, switching the heater on and keeping it on. This has happened to me several times, resulting in the heater being fully on for many hours, racking up a sizeable amount on my energy bill. Why the timer system should have a battery backup system to store the timer settings when they are ignored in the event of power restoration is beyond understanding.I contacted Dimplex about this to see if it was a fault, and they told me that this is the way they work. Switch it off, and on switch on, it reverts to factory default of Manual mode. A temporary power outage followed by a restoration means that this heater can turn itself on when you are away from home.I have also had the clock time periodically reset itself to some random value, meaning that the heater came on at unexpected times when in Auto mode. For these reasons, I only use it now in Manual mode, and with a separate 7 day timer unit.CONCLUSIONThis is a good and effective radiator, and as a simple stand-alone heater, is hard to fault. The timer is the weakest point, ineptly designed, and effectively useless. I wanted to remove two stars for the unreliability of the timer, but as the heater is otherwise perfectly fit for purpose, I restored one. Had it been sold without a timer at all, it would have merited five stars as a heater. As it is, it still has to lose one star, because it was sold as a heater with timer function, and the timer is hopeless.Otherwise, a good heater and it does the job well. Recommended for that alone.

We purchased the earlier version (OFRC20C) of this rad from Amazon in February 2012 as a back up for our gas central heating. We only use it on winters coldest days. During the summer months we box, and store it in the loft, it still looks like new. However, on reusing it in November 2014, the dreaded "intermittent clicking" noise that so many reviewers of both models have complained about, began. I realized that this was caused by the metal expanding / contracting, which had to be caused by one or more of its 3 rod's (heating elements) rather than the thermostat. On closer listening (CAUTION!! HOT METAL) it appeared to be the lower one.WARNING!! This is a simple repair, but it MUST be done by a COMPETENT ELECTRICIAN!! Unplug radiator from the mains. Pull out the rotating thermostat knob and undo the hidden screw. Undo the 2 wing nuts that secure the castor's. below the control panel side, and undo the "tamper proof" screw, which requires a special screwdriver. The complete control panel can now be pulled a few inches away from the rad, giving access to the heating elements, each one is secured by 4 cross-head screws, by slightly loosening these you can turn the element the mere fraction of an inch that will stop it contacting the metal panels that it goes through, this is the cause of the clicking noises!! Re tighten the 4 securing screws and then refit the control panel. Having done this 5 months ago our rad has operated "click free" ever since.

A good compact oil free heater, purchased to replace a defunct oil filled one, heats up very very quick, much lighter to move around, digital timer is great and works well, the thermostic controls if set correctly means you save money, excellent heat distribution, all in all a good purchase, I would have given it 5 stars, but as already mentioned by others, the power lead is so short, it's as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike, you more than likely will need a extention lead, so therefore only 4 stars. On to Delivery, that was another game, 1st one never arrived, arranged a replacement via the call centre in India, thank goodness it was free phone!!, 1st one then turned up,arranged for replacement to be cancelled, was assured that it had been done, yes you have guessed it, it also turned up on our doorstep, the delivery driver was great, no problem in taking it back.Don't let the delivery senario put you off the heater, it was just a bit of bad luck.

The Dimplex Radiator heats up my living room very quickly and effectively although it does have a tendency to switch itself over to "manual" instead of staying on "Auto" as programmed. Fortunately because it has a thermostat, this does not cause too much of a problem as it also very efficiently switches itself off when it reaches the set temperature. There is a bit of a noise to it - usually just when the TV programme you are watching reaches its climax so you miss it completely - but it is presumably the metal expanding or contracting according to the heat setting and I would imagine there is not a lot can be done about it.It has a minimum temperature trigger which turns the heater on if the temperature falls below 5 degrees C which hopefully will not happen down too often on the UK south coast but a good safeguard nevertheless.

I use this to heat a 22m2 home office (timber and insulated construction). I couple this with a TP LINK SmartPlug so I can control the on/off schedule from the comfort of my home and not use the built in timer.I usually turn on the heater 1-2 hours before I need to use the space, and it certainly takes the edge of the cold. I wouldn’t say it heats the space completely adequately like central heating does, but it does a good job for the size of the space (which is pretty large).Part of me wishes I had tried the oil-radiator first as I’ve had oil heaters in the past and they’ve been great for holding residual heat. I don’t believe the oil-free version is so great at holding residual heat.Bottom line is it does the job.And if you are serious about running a timer, invest in a TP LINK smartPlug for £25!

Heats up quickly so this heater is a boon with the terribly cold weather, our lounge radiator valve stopped working, unable to use our lounge (which is 20 foot long) as too cold to sit in. Husband has osteo arthritis of the hip and had a terrible attack of pain in bed ill with the cold so I ordered this heater so he could sit in the lounge in the warmth (his pain has stopped today, he has flare ups now and again). Got this heater this morning, put it on in the lounge and it soon heated up the room (with the door nearly shut). We all enjoyed the heat including our dogs! No idea how much it will cost to run, will have to keep an eye on this, as electricity expensive. Bought this one as it has a timer,so a bit more money £10 or so than the one without a timer). Might get another for our conservatory.

An excellent source of additional heat in my office, which is more than adequate. Heating is quick and simple. Solidly built and with useful controls (timer, thermostat and 2 heat settings), this oil free radiator sets the standard for electric liquid filled radiators.** Mine emitted an overpowering smell of bad eggs for the first 30 minutes of use. I rang the help line, which was easy to get through to and they immediately confirmed that this is normal for first use, and indeed it hasn't happened since.I cannot see anything inappropriate with the running cost and have no hesitation in recommending this model

I bought two, one to use in the study on days when I work at home so I don't have to put the heating on around the whole house, and the other as a "top up" heater in the living room. They heat up very quickly from cold and produce a lot of heat. I like that I can select between two power settings and adjust the heat output with the dial.I have not attempted to use the timer, and not sure how useful that would be. I'm more likely to use a separate timer switch to be honest.

This is simply amazing! Very easy to set up and program and heats up quite quickly. Just max it out until the room gets to the desired temperature (doesn't take long) and then lower the intensity, set the thermostat at the current temperature level and you are good to go! Works perfectly for my bedroom (4m x 10m and about 5m in height) and can also warm up our living room which is significantly larger (when at maximum intensity). Highly recommended!

Warms up a small space quickly. Nice and light to move around on the casters. Having set the auomatic timer for it to come on and go off on a daily basis we have found that if the heater is bumped or moved it tends to go back to manual mode. This can be rectified each time by just pressing the mode button once otherwise we are perfectly happy with the heater and are hopeful our electric bill will be considerably less than it was with a fan heater.

I've used the radiator consistently over the Christmas period. It's great! God some nice settings such as a timer, temperature gauge etc. Also comes with wheels so you don't have to lift it up each time you want to move it. I bought it to save money overall on our heating as i can use it to heat a single room rather than using central heating for the entire house! Good job and highly recommended.

For a normal size UK bed room it's the best. rapidly heats up. But for a big or very big room 3kW would be good.If you know how to use it's timer and thermostat, you won't need to touch it everyday. You will enter your room coming from job with a warm welcome. The only bad thing I found is the red light which stays on always. If it should be on always then it's colour should have been Green.

I bought this to provide some local heating when our central heating system is off during the day. It's light-weight and really easy to install. Just plug it into a wall socket, set the clock, select heating level and auto or manual mode. I could feel the warmth coming through the vents immediately. I sat down about 10 ft. away and I could still feel the heater's warmth. Well pleased.

I thought this would be better than an oil filled radiator. It does the job I want it to ie take the chill off the utility room but it constantly makes clicking noises as the metal rods expand as they heat up. As its in the utility room I can put up with it but would drive me mad if it was in the living room or bedroom. I don't have this problem with my oil filled one.
