Alawar normally produce a quality game and this one starts with all the signs. Detailed graphics based on a mock French 19th century place, quality scene setting music and a story. There are lots of video cut away sequences at the beginning which eventually got a bit distracting as did all the discussions with Clare. The hidden object scenes had lots of interaction and were quite tough but after the first hour or so these dumbed down to just finding things which was disappointing. I had in mind that this could be a classic game but it became quite pedestrian with the energy and creative time seemingly put into the first part of the game which could be experienced in an on-line 'try before you buy'market. It becomes lots of having to find keys for things and mini games that were easy which is a shame as the scenes merited so much more. Your character also meets other people but nothing much seems to be done with this. On the plus side there's lots to do, the object that you are looking for a realistic and to scale, a town to explore and about 10 hours of game play. This is also a love story which is a good contrast to the 'escape from hospital' games. The bonus content is also detailed and not just a few throwaway scenes. The 12 rating is meaningless as there's nothing too difficult here and the story is about as scary as a Scooby-Doo episode so ok to share with the rest of the family. Overall a game to have in your collection just not an epic one.

There are a lot of Hidden Object Games on the market, and they are on variable quality but this is a nice one, very nice artwork, a well plotted story with a good ending not an abrupt stop, a nice interface, the right amount of cutscenes all in all a nice experience. There is the usual mix of HO scenes and puzzles, this game misses 5 stars for lack of originality only. The puzzles are tricky but not fiendish, objects not too invisible. The extras are nice; the wallpapers are possibly the best I've had come with a game and 2 of them have joined my rotating collection.

There are just a few things that stop this game being a five. There could be a few more mini games, those that there are, are repeated. The hidden objects could have a few twists (like having to open something to find the item). I must say that I found the characterisation of Clair annoying and was glad when she was'snatched'. I am also surprised that the game is given a '12' rating, I did not find anything scary or violent in the game. However, overall, it held my attention and kept me entertain for a good few hours.

Although this game does at times seem quite linear it is a very enjoyable romp. The story slowly reveals itself with a nice twist. The music was, for me, the highlight of play with a haunting score continually in the background. The graphics are great and for such a price cannot be faulted.
