I received my Cross Bailey, black lacquer fountain pen, as a gift from my wife. I am delighted with the look, the weight and the feel of the pen. It felt slightly small and dainty at first but within a week or two of use I am now finding it very comfortable and enjoyable to use. The nib is attractive and smooth. I did find that the ink flow was just a bit on the dry side for my liking so that there was not enough lubrication for the nib to glide across the paper. However this was rectified by very carefully bending the steel nib back a little which had the effect of spreading the tines very slightly and increasing ink flow so it is now wet and juicy and copes easily with coarse cartridge paper.

I received this pen fairly quickly and the first thing I think I should count on the packaging. The box is better than most others in this price range.The pen itself is good. I usually prefer a screw on cap but it's not the end of the world.I love the orange coloured convertor for this pen. It's probably the best looking converter I've ever seen. Not to mention that it is a screw in convertor which will ensure that it doesn't slip out.The nib was very smooth right out of the box. I noticed that on most papers I wrote on, it was fairly squeaky. I'm not exactly sure why that is the case but after a bit of fine tuning with micro mesh and a couple weeks of writing it seems to have gone.

The Cross Bailey fountain pens are fairly average, with medium stainless steel nibs that are best described as "above adequate". Where this off-shoot of that range shines though, quite literally, is in the lacquered finish.The lacquer on the red and blue pens is simply gorgeous. They each have a deeply hued outer layer which somehow seems to provide a translucent depth to a silvery under-layer, creating the impression of depth. They catch the light well and the silver-coloured ornamentation sits well with the colours.I have specifically bought the red and blue editions to use with red and blue inks, using the Cross converters which are sold separately.

I have wanted a decent fountain pen for a while now, as I do a fair bit of writing at work.Cross has a very good reputation for manufacturing quality pens, and I wasn't dissapointed.This pen is all I expected, easy to fit cartridges, easy to fit an ink converter (available separately) and, ultimately, easy to write with.No pressure on nib required and it glides across the page.The only issue that I have, is the lid does not sit on the pen end when writing, which is where I like to keep it.For this reason only, I have deducted 1 star.

This is an excellent fountain pen which meets Cross's high standards. It writes very smoothly and looks stunning and even though it is one of the cheaper fountain pens on the market it looks and feels as if it's a lot more expensive! This pen is almost faultless, my one little problem is that when capped the pen doesn't fit very snugly in the cap and tends to rattle just a little bit, the cap stays firmly on the pen and doesn't come off but it does rattle a little bit.Overall I would recommend this pen to anybody, its fantastic.

The pen is really good and writes beautifully. Many people have commented that the cap falls off when posted and I too had this problem. However, after a few weeks of use, carrying in my pocket and also washing the cap out with hot dilute washing up liquid and rinsing thoroughly in hot water, the cap stays firmly in place. I think there must be some manufacturing lubricant left on the surfaces and once this is removed, either by wear or washing, the cap will stay on.

This is a fantastic pen that looks and feels like something three times the price. The ink flows with beautiful smoothness and the nib glides across the paper - writing with this pen is an absolute pleasure.It has a pleasing weight to it and sits well in the hand. I notice that other reviewers have criticised the fit of the pen's cap - I didn't find this to be a problem with mine at all, however; the cap sits snugly on the pen I bought.Absolutely fantastic value.

I was looking for a cross bailey fountain pen, I looked on one websie, but when I went to order it i found it was out of stock. I thought I would try amazon , and fond the same product for half the price. I ordered it on thursday and it arrived on Saturday. Great service. Thankyou amazon.

It got 5 because for the price it looks great a bit Mont Blanc like and classy, the cap is a bit stiff and takes a bit of pulling off but otherwise this is a nicely weighted pen, it writes very nicely and is a bargain for the price. I liked it so much I bought another one as a gift

The pen is all I expect from Cross and writes well when dipped in ink. This pen did not however come with spare cartridges as described. This was not a national disaster as I am waiting for a converter to arrive. It would however have been nice to have tried the alternative.

Beautiful design. I find myself seeking out things to write so that I can use the pen! Wanted to start writing again and this is a great not so expensive pen to get back in groove!

It takes a bit of a pull to get the cap off, but overall this is a great pen. It doesn't go through WH Smith memo paper whereas another pen I have does. This is important for work.

Attractive pen. Nicely balanced and a lovely writer. One problem is that the top when fitted on the body of the pen is very tight and needs a considerable pull to get it off.

I have returned to writing letters and by buying a spin my writing and improved tremendously I recommend everybody should go back to writing with a fountain pen

My husband loves his gift, he can't wait to go and write at work. Its a beautiful pen. Writes so well very smooth. The pen glides across the paper.
