It is oftentimes the case that I find myself stumbling home through the wintery winds, shattered after a long day at the office, a few ales to the worse and with an enormous sack of chestnuts clasped tightly against my chest. No sooner would I collapse into the sofa than I'd be struck by a terrible realisation: not one of these chestnuts has been drilled. Not one.Imagine the enormity of that! The daunting reality of those hundreds, maybe thousands of chestnuts, each one of them as undrilled as the last, just sitting there in a huge net bag, waiting, begging to be drilled. Where to begin? What tool to use? Do I take a sharp bodkin and brute force my way through, at great risk of piercing the heel of my holding hand?
