Great lens if you need to recreate those sweeping vistas used in the Mad Max movies or any film where you need a great big landscape shot. If you watch 'Die Hard' most of the wide shots were on a wide angle lens so you might spot the slight leaning in of vertical lines or surfaces - which adds to the film-like look but it isn't over the top like say from a Go Pro extreme wide-angle lens which is basically a fish-eye.The Canon name means quality and since I bought this for my Canon HV20, which is also a superb camera (even though they don't make it anymore - which is a shame) it means nice wide shots can be yours. The lens is heavy but nicely made so once it's attached to your video camera,it will feel substantial which is a polite way of saying it's weighty but ironically a heavier camera is better for steadier hand-held shooting. The image quality is very good and it's now used all the time on one of my HV20's. Definitely worth the money. It ain't cheap but then good quality never is. Does exactly what it says on the box.

I needed wide angle abilities to film a wedding with my HV20. I did some research and decided on this converter. I'm very glad I did, because it's a very good quality lens, and any distortion at full wide angle is only apparent in the corners of the frame. In a real world situation, you won't notice it. I find that the HV20 has far too much bias in the direction of telephoto zoom, and its wide angle abilities are rather poor, making filming indoors somewhat difficult. Since I bought this lens, I never have any reason to take it off, and mostly shoot with it at the widest setting. If there is any negative point, its that there is no filter thread or any standard way to attach a lens hood. However, since this is likely to be mostly used indoors, I don't think it'll prove too much of a limitation. This is not just recommended, it's essential.

I've been using this wide angle converter for over a year now. It's rarely removed from my HV30 camera and despite its weight (in relation to the camera) I find it actually makes it easier for me to carry the camera. It gives an excellent performance - no vignetting but you do get a little pin-cushion distortion when filming the horizon at the widest angle. One drawback (for some people) is that you can't attach any filters to the front of the lens. Whether it's possible to attach a filter between the camera and the converter I've no idea (I've not tried). You can see my results with this converter on YouTube - enter '4tnine' in the search field and take a look at my videos on Kefalonia.

I was very pleased that this item arrived very promptly within 2 days of ordering well packed. My first impression was of a well made product,as one would expect from Canon, but quite surprised at the bulk which made my Canon HV20 rather front heavy. Hopefully the bulk was necessary for, and would ensure, excellent optical performance. I am happy to report that the performance is of a very high standard with little distortion at wide angle. The photographic possibilities with the extra wide angle are very much improved and I think that the cost will be justified.

I bought this wide-angle converter for use with my Canon Legria HV40. It is certainly the best wide-angle converter I have used giving sharp pictures edge to edge and producing very good "stills" (all my other converters have produced unusable stills). It's quite a bulky, heavy lens but this is a small price to pay for the results. It would be nice if there were a filter thread to allow a UV filter to be attached, if only for protection. I never take it off the camcorder.

I bought the converter for my Canon HG10 Camcorder. The improvement in the camera's capabilities are a godsend. Since putting the converter on, I have not removed it.On a down side, without the converter the camera is lightweight, but adding the converter it makes it 'Top Heavy' and the camera wants to fall forward whilst using it.Apart from the added weight, which I put up with, I would whole heartedly recommend the converter.Kim

That's what you need with your Canon hv40. I do not even remove that. It is a must have thing. If you are going to pro, of course. Watch youtube for more visual proof.
