I got a grid screen for a second hand 40d I bought as it was the cheapest available, I like the lines in the viewfinder I bought this one for my 5d. I got it here for £25 which is the lowest price I could find anywhere, the average being £30+. It's a little daunting meddling inside your camera but swapping the focus screen is very simple to do. The screen comes with the little tool for holding the screens securely and instructions. The process takes a couple of minutes at most. The grid on the screen is very clear and crisp but not so much that it interferes with what you're looking at. It makes leveling horizons, buildings etc much simpler and after a while it seems that I use it subconsciously without noticing it's there.

This focussing screen arrived very quickly, was well packaged, and contained clear instructions.Fitting was simplicity itself, the whole job taking no more than a couple of minutes. In fact it was so quick that I almost took the screen out again just to make sure that I had fitted it correctly!The view through the viewfinder is clearer and sharper than the original screen, and now I have no problems in maintaing a straight horizon in my landscapes.Thoroughly recommended.

If you can change the screen on camera, this grid option is the most usable. A common problem with my photos and it seems quite widespread is the squint horizon syndrome. No matter how carefully you line up verticals and horizontal your image ends up on the wonk. This type of screen helps with etched guide lines across the frame aiding framing and composition.

The application was fast. Took me 1 minute to replace the old one with this. Had to hold my breath while doing it though! LOL!The feel of it when the new focusing screen is on is really natural. I almost forget that I just fit a new screen after a few minutes. This should have been fitted from the beginning!

Canon's EE-D Focusing Screen is a precision matte screen with grid lines, for the Canon EOS-5D Digital SLR Camera.This is a useful screen for keeping uprights right and levels level, it is also helpful in keeping the rule of thirds in mind.
