Coming from a Britax Dualfix, I was not disappointed to have waited afew extra weeks for the release of this new upgrade to one of the most highly rated car seats on the market - the Britax Evolva 123.The two main updates to the older version of this seat is the SL and SICT part mentioned in the title.SL refers to the Soft Latch ISOFIX that it can optionally use. Only seats for younger children (e.g. Group 0, 0+ and 1) can use ISOFIX, as this reaches the maximum weight limit for ISOFIX connectors. This means that Group 2 and 3 seats MUST use the vehicle's own seatbelt to hold the child seat (and often its occupant) in place. But of course, when you undo the seatbelt to let the child out of the seat, there is nothing holding the child seat in place, so it can move around the back of your car when not in use. Soft Latch Isofix (ISOFIT) uses two straps that have clips on the end that connect to the ISOFIX connector on your car, to hold the child seat in place, so that it remains in place if the seatbelt is undone. Note that you MUST use the vehicle's seatbelt as well to hold the child seat (and child if it's older) in place, whether you use the Soft Latch system or not. For children 9kg to 18kg, the seatbelt holds the child seat in place, and the child seat's 5-point harness holds the child in place. For children 18kg to 36kg, the 5-point harness is removed and you only use the vehicle's seatbelt for both the child seat and the child. PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE SOFT LATCH (ISOFIT) WITH ISOFIX. YOU *MUST* USE A SEATBELT TO SECURE ANY CHILD SEAT OF THIS AGE RANGE. ISOFIX CAN ONLY BE USED ON ITS OWN FOR GROUP 0, 0+ AND 1 SEATS. There is another review here giving this seat 1 star because they made this mistake, stating the the seat felt insecure, and clearly didn't read the manual and ignored the stickers on the side of the seat that clearly state you must use a seatbelt too. Read the instructions and do not ignore the stickers on the side of the seat that tell you how to fit the seat. Do not put your child's life at risk by not bothering to read instructions and ignoring warning stickers!SICT refers to Britax's Side Impact Cushion Technology. This is a cylinder that unscrews to protrude from the side of the seat at shoulder height. There is one on each side, but you only use the one nearest to the car's door. In the event of a side impact, it acts as a crumple zone for the seat, absorbing some of the energy and helping to keep the seat away from the impact before the car's door comes in contact with the seat, thus improving the safety of side impacts. The seat is surprisingly light weight for its size, which made fitting it less strenuous. Fitting is pretty straightforward (PLEASE read the instructions!) - in short you place your child in the seat while in the house and adjust the height of the headrest. This also adjusts the height of the shoulder straps, which should be level with or just above the height of the top of your child's shoulders. Outside... you then (if you're going to use them) loosen the two Soft Latch ISOFIX (ISOFIT) straps, put the seat in position, attach the two Soft Latch clips to the ISOFIT connectors on your car, thread the car's seatbelt through a holes in the back of the car seat and fasten the seatbelt, adjust the position of the belt to make it neat and shove a knee onto the seat to press it back hard into the car's seat, pull the seatbelt tight and also the Soft Latch straps tight. Unscrew the SICT thingamy on the side of the chair nearest the door. Done! You can keep it like that until your child weighs 18kg, at which point you have to remove the 5-point harness and use the car's seatbelt to secure both your child and the seat.To secure a child under 18kg, you simply undo the 5-point harness clip, put the child in the seat, fasten the clip, and pull the single strap that comes out at the centre front of the seat. You pull it forward, towards the front of the car, until it gives a loud click (don't pull it upwards - it's too stiff). You then pull the chest pads down as far as they will go over your child, and pull the strap until it clicks one more time. The click indicates you have pulled it tight enough.I haven't used the seat in the 18kg to 36kg configuration, but from what I read in the manual you remove the 5-point harness and use the car's seatbelt to secure both the child seat and the child. Also, underneath the seat, is a wedge shaped support that can fold out to adjust the recline angle of the seat while fitting it. I kept mine in the default position. There is no way to adjust the recline once the seat is fitted to the car.The chest pads are very wide and long - which translates to comfort and safety. They really do make me feel like my child is well secured. The colour (I chose black) is a nice uniform and deep colour. The fabric wipes clean easily, and all the covers are easily removed for washing. Two things I did notice, coming from a Group 1 ISOFIX seat, is that seats that are held in place by a seatbelt do indeed feel much less secure than an ISOFIX seat for younger kids. Of course, this applies to all seats for older children, including this one. So this is normal. It was just something I noticed that didn't feel right and I'm putting it here to help reassure any other new parents that become worried about this. It's OK! Even with Soft Latch ISOFIX and a seatbelt, it is not going to feel as secure as a younger child seat that's solidly locked into the frame of your car via rigid ISOFIX connectors. The second thing is that I found that the child seat seems to not face perfectly forward - it points slightly towards the middle of my car. However, on examining the the seat of my car, it seems that the rear passenger seats in my car do this too! The child seat seems to sit at the same angle as the car's rear seats - so I guess that's normal too.Of course, perhaps one of the more important things to mention is that my 2 year old daughter also loves the seat. We had it squeezed between the two arms of one of my comfy chairs in the front room for a day until I had time to fit it to the car. She sat in it, of her own accord, in the front room for 2 hours! She only got out of it because she wanted some dinner. During dinner she kept asking "Can I sit in my new car seat after dinner?", and then sat in it for a further 2 hours before bedtime. She loves it! We've also been on a 5 hour journey with it with no complaints. She's mentioned "I love my new car seat!" several times. So there you go! The ultimate seal of approval! Finally, I would like to mention that Britax Customer Services are brilliant. I've had to contact them a few times over the past 3 years that I've owned 3 different models of their seats (not due to any fault of the seats - just for advice and a spare part), and each time they've helped me quickly and professionally.

Great car seat. This is my second now as family is growing. Before I bought my first I was looking at many many different ones but after very carefully selection I decided to buy this one. It fits my both cars perfectly despite completely different angle of the back seats in both cars. Most of car sets that I have tried in my BMW 5 series didn't fit flush against the back rest. This one does same as in Volvo s40 (the old one). It is rather easy to install although all of them (if not isofix) are a pain. My kids feel comfortable even in log distance travel. Great little feature are those little holes where you can stick the locking pins in when not in use.It makes it very easy to put a baby back in and not getting frustrated that kid is sitting on one of the belts. Cup holders are good enough easy to open. The padding all around is decent , could be more soft but it is really good comparing to different products and the padding on the belts are just great. I know that my kids could not be safer than in this car seat and i believe it is money well spent still hoping that I will never have to describe how it performed in a collision. If you are looking for good decent British made car seat for your kids... Stop and buy britax. Hope this review helps.

We own 3 of these and 2 much more expensive seats from other manufacturers that had better reviews. For us these are the best, having withstood 2* 6 month - 4 year old's so far perfectly.Update 2 years after first review, these are still doing well, we now own 4 of them for 2 cars and the other 2 we owned have either been given away or put in the roof. these are still in great condition and are now dealing with one 4 and one 6 year old. we have stripped them down to the plastic and washed the covers (you will need to do this trust me) and its not a hard process and the seats go back together easily and don't bleed colour or deteriorate from being washed. I'd still recommend these, our girls are tall and these still fit them fine even though they are almost big enough not to need them any more. We also bought a difference more expensive design for our parents to have, as they were meant to be easier to fit and allow for the girls to use them for longer. that was soon put away as we let them borrow on of these as well as the more expensive unit and they asked not to have the more expensive one again as my dad struggled to fit it where as these are simple.

Great value for money. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to extend and tighten the arm straps, however after figuring it out it’s quite straight forward but still a bit fiddly. Really easy waist adjusting, and a quite simple way which is fits into the car, even though again quite fiddly. Definitely a car seat that is left in the car and not to be transported as quite heavy and hard to carry, but there is loads of bags available online which fit any car seat universally that have straps and carry handles. Drink cup holders are a little useless since most beakers/kiddie cups are too big to fit, but perfect size for take away paper cups. Also a little annoying that you have to take it all out just to recline it however as our son is still very young we just leave it in the reclining position for now. Overall quite happy with the product and it is very safe and secure, the fiddly bits just come with the lower price. If you want something more advance it will be more money

The car seat arrived one day earlier than was stated on the email, so happy with that. The seat itself seems to be well constructed, with enough padding for the little one in just the right areas and heavy enough to make you feel that you have something sturdy enough and that it will protect them if the worst happens. The only beef I have is with the printed instruction manuals. Notice that I wrote manuals, plural. That is because there were 28 A3 size folded pages of instructions plus another A5 booklet in 28 languages. Easily the most I have seen accompanying any product. What a waste of paper. So I read the instruction leaflet in English and after 15 minutes gave up trying to decipher their meaning and went to YouTube and found a video from Smyth Toys and the official video, from Britax. Three minutes later, I understood the easy fitting and fitted the seat in 5 minutes. Overall very happy. Also, made in the UK, so what else can I say. Just change that instruction manual.

I reluctantly agreed to let my son be forward facing at 2.5 years. The EU recommendation is that they should face the back until 4. Real safety concern for me but my husband pointed out our son was uncomfortable. His legs were too long to face the back.So bought the evolva 123 plus. We went for plus as it has wider seats and we wanted to use it for next 5 years if not more. I am really impressed. It's a lovely looking car seat and seems really secure. My son has plenty of room and is very comfortable. Additionally, it was less than £100! Really impressed with quality. We tried out a joie in Symths and felt he was sitting on plastic. Not with the britax. Gorgeous deep padding. Nice colours and cup holders.I love it. It also has the ability to tilt for longer journeys. We have left it tilted as he is still very young. Very impressed with britax and they make the seats in Britain. So saves British jobs.

My sister just had a kid and i wanted to buy something that would help her out whilst travelling. Spoke to one of her friends and they recommended this seat. Having looked at it i don't think she'll need to buy another it is huge. The seat looks and feels incredibly comfortable and it is relatively easy to fit even for a l year old or under. It comes with 2 cup holders on either side and offers a large freedom of movement to play, eat and drink.Though the seat has a large cushioned head rest which is safe, the side rest isn't adjustable so there is limited support when my niece falls asleep. My only recommendation if this happens is to just add blankets as extra cushions when that happens. It's my only gripe but it's something that can easily be fixedOverall it's a good investment though if they have a model with an adjustable side head rest invest the additional £20-30.

I ordered this seat after a recommendation by friend and our son was growing out of the chair he had used since birth. It is a comfortable seat (my son seems to think!) that is relatively easy to fit. It has 2 cup/snack holders on either side of the seat and allows enough freedom of movement for play, eating and drinking. The seat features a large cushioned head rest which looks like a good safety feature but seems to provide limited support when your child falls asleep. We found ourselves using blankets or additional cushions to prevent his head lolling to one side during sleep.Despite this one shortcoming, I would have to say that this is a good seat and and very reasonably priced. The cup holders are a great feature as is the very user friendly strap adjustment system. A good buy.

It's a great car seat but do read the reviews on shoulder straps if you are a first time car-seat user. It took us two days to-and fro-ing, with the seat already in the car, to be able to use it, after we had a non-starter journey with our toddler. Result was said toddler hated the seat as straps were too tight, and we couldn't find any info online on britax videos or in print on how to adjust shoulder straps. Everyone showed the button - but noone said you only had to pull one of the two straps at a time. So it took reading all the reviews here to figure it out. That's why we gave the seat 4 stars. It's a great seat though and hope our toddler will eventually learn to love it after more positive experiences.

Good chair. This seems to be a pretty good chair. Getting the seatbelt through to secure it in the car gets easier the more you do it, although I never manage to do it without twisting the belt which is apparently not good.If you let your kids eat in this seat then the crumbs do go through some of the holes - including the strap release button hole. Gets a bit gross down there, but you can of course clean it. Talking of which, the cover comes off easily and can go in the wash. There are some places where liquids can pool if your child has a spillage or other accident. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.Anyway all in all we’re happy with the seat - we now have two.

Really happy with this car seat (black one) which we bought about a month ago for our then 15 month old child to use in our second car (Skoda Citigo - quite a small car!). My husband was able to fit it without too much swearing...and it is so cushiony and cosy with nice padded straps which don't cut into my daughter's neck like our Cosatto seat does. Also straps don't get all twisted like our Cosatto seat. (In fact I really like it much better than the Cosatto one - pretty to look at but rubbish to use.) Yes it's a bit fiddly adjusting the straps but I read some of the answers on here which helped. Great seat, great price and they ship to the Channel islands free - what's not to like :)

Bought this car seat about 4 months ago now. I have to say for the price it is a great little seat, our little one loves it and it is nice and compact so doesn’t take up much room in a small back seat.Down sides for us is that sometimes it can be difficult to feed the seatbelt round the back of the unit without getting it twisted. Of course this would be an issue in an accident.Second we find it a real pain to loosen the straps. There is just and exact point you have to pull on above the clip but under the shoulder strap. It took too long to figure this out and compared to other car seats we’ve owned made getting our little one out when she’s sleeping impossible.

8.2.2017

Really pleased with this. I think that the price is very reasonable and to me it looks very sturdy, comfortable and safe. I tried to find it on Which but they haven't reviewed it however having read all of the reviews on here I decided to go for it and glad I did. I don't agree with the negative feedback about the straps being fiddly - I think that they are perfectly easy to use (I mean ... most baby straps are a little bit fiddly aren't they?!)The only thing I'm not so keen on is that you have to take the seat out to recline it. But he can fall asleep without reclining so it's not so much of a drawback.Very happy! (As is my 2 year old)

Very nice car seat. Fitted brilliantly into my car. The figment instructions were simple to follow (I also recommend watching the video too) and the seat feels firm and safe. This seat moves between my car and the grandparents car and it always remains easy to get in and out and fits well into either car (different brands).Size and space for the little one seems good. The harness is strong and the buckle doesn’t seem at all easy to open by their little hands! The shoulder pads are nice and thick and the chair seems nicely designed for their comfort. Our little boy seems very comfortable and happy to be sat in it.

Having bought the Britax Römer (standard version) for my own car, my partner asked me to purchase the isofix version for his, maybe it was my fault having seen all other isofix car seats used, thinking it wouldn’t need the seat belt, we were wrong.Having paid the extra £80 we now realise it wasn’t worth the difference of the standard version, as the seat belt needs to be installed in the exact same way, therefore in my eyes making the isofix redundant.Love britax car seats and will definitely carry on purchasing they’re products, but this is a bit of a disappointment
