Coming from a Britax Dualfix, I was not disappointed to have waited afew extra weeks for the release of this new upgrade to one of the most highly rated car seats on the market - the Britax Evolva 123.The two main updates to the older version of this seat is the SL and SICT part mentioned in the title.SL refers to the Soft Latch ISOFIX that it can optionally use. Only seats for younger children (e.g. Group 0, 0+ and 1) can use ISOFIX, as this reaches the maximum weight limit for ISOFIX connectors. This means that Group 2 and 3 seats MUST use the vehicle's own seatbelt to hold the child seat (and often its occupant) in place. But of course, when you undo the seatbelt to let the child out of the seat, there is nothing holding the child seat in place, so it can move around the back of your car when not in use. Soft Latch Isofix (ISOFIT) uses two straps that have clips on the end that connect to the ISOFIX connector on your car, to hold the child seat in place, so that it remains in place if the seatbelt is undone. Note that you MUST use the vehicle's seatbelt as well to hold the child seat (and child if it's older) in place, whether you use the Soft Latch system or not. For children 9kg to 18kg, the seatbelt holds the child seat in place, and the child seat's 5-point harness holds the child in place. For children 18kg to 36kg, the 5-point harness is removed and you only use the vehicle's seatbelt for both the child seat and the child. PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE SOFT LATCH (ISOFIT) WITH ISOFIX. YOU *MUST* USE A SEATBELT TO SECURE ANY CHILD SEAT OF THIS AGE RANGE. ISOFIX CAN ONLY BE USED ON ITS OWN FOR GROUP 0, 0+ AND 1 SEATS. There is another review here giving this seat 1 star because they made this mistake, stating the the seat felt insecure, and clearly didn't read the manual and ignored the stickers on the side of the seat that clearly state you must use a seatbelt too. Read the instructions and do not ignore the stickers on the side of the seat that tell you how to fit the seat. Do not put your child's life at risk by not bothering to read instructions and ignoring warning stickers!SICT refers to Britax's Side Impact Cushion Technology. This is a cylinder that unscrews to protrude from the side of the seat at shoulder height. There is one on each side, but you only use the one nearest to the car's door. In the event of a side impact, it acts as a crumple zone for the seat, absorbing some of the energy and helping to keep the seat away from the impact before the car's door comes in contact with the seat, thus improving the safety of side impacts. The seat is surprisingly light weight for its size, which made fitting it less strenuous. Fitting is pretty straightforward (PLEASE read the instructions!) - in short you place your child in the seat while in the house and adjust the height of the headrest. This also adjusts the height of the shoulder straps, which should be level with or just above the height of the top of your child's shoulders. Outside... you then (if you're going to use them) loosen the two Soft Latch ISOFIX (ISOFIT) straps, put the seat in position, attach the two Soft Latch clips to the ISOFIT connectors on your car, thread the car's seatbelt through a holes in the back of the car seat and fasten the seatbelt, adjust the position of the belt to make it neat and shove a knee onto the seat to press it back hard into the car's seat, pull the seatbelt tight and also the Soft Latch straps tight. Unscrew the SICT thingamy on the side of the chair nearest the door. Done! You can keep it like that until your child weighs 18kg, at which point you have to remove the 5-point harness and use the car's seatbelt to secure both your child and the seat.To secure a child under 18kg, you simply undo the 5-point harness clip, put the child in the seat, fasten the clip, and pull the single strap that comes out at the centre front of the seat. You pull it forward, towards the front of the car, until it gives a loud click (don't pull it upwards - it's too stiff). You then pull the chest pads down as far as they will go over your child, and pull the strap until it clicks one more time. The click indicates you have pulled it tight enough.I haven't used the seat in the 18kg to 36kg configuration, but from what I read in the manual you remove the 5-point harness and use the car's seatbelt to secure both the child seat and the child. Also, underneath the seat, is a wedge shaped support that can fold out to adjust the recline angle of the seat while fitting it. I kept mine in the default position. There is no way to adjust the recline once the seat is fitted to the car.The chest pads are very wide and long - which translates to comfort and safety. They really do make me feel like my child is well secured. The colour (I chose black) is a nice uniform and deep colour. The fabric wipes clean easily, and all the covers are easily removed for washing. Two things I did notice, coming from a Group 1 ISOFIX seat, is that seats that are held in place by a seatbelt do indeed feel much less secure than an ISOFIX seat for younger kids. Of course, this applies to all seats for older children, including this one. So this is normal. It was just something I noticed that didn't feel right and I'm putting it here to help reassure any other new parents that become worried about this. It's OK! Even with Soft Latch ISOFIX and a seatbelt, it is not going to feel as secure as a younger child seat that's solidly locked into the frame of your car via rigid ISOFIX connectors. The second thing is that I found that the child seat seems to not face perfectly forward - it points slightly towards the middle of my car. However, on examining the the seat of my car, it seems that the rear passenger seats in my car do this too! The child seat seems to sit at the same angle as the car's rear seats - so I guess that's normal too.Of course, perhaps one of the more important things to mention is that my 2 year old daughter also loves the seat. We had it squeezed between the two arms of one of my comfy chairs in the front room for a day until I had time to fit it to the car. She sat in it, of her own accord, in the front room for 2 hours! She only got out of it because she wanted some dinner. During dinner she kept asking "Can I sit in my new car seat after dinner?", and then sat in it for a further 2 hours before bedtime. She loves it! We've also been on a 5 hour journey with it with no complaints. She's mentioned "I love my new car seat!" several times. So there you go! The ultimate seal of approval! Finally, I would like to mention that Britax Customer Services are brilliant. I've had to contact them a few times over the past 3 years that I've owned 3 different models of their seats (not due to any fault of the seats - just for advice and a spare part), and each time they've helped me quickly and professionally.

We own 3 of these and 2 much more expensive seats from other manufacturers that had better reviews. For us these are the best, having withstood 2* 6 month - 4 year old's so far perfectly.Update 2 years after first review, these are still doing well, we now own 4 of them for 2 cars and the other 2 we owned have either been given away or put in the roof. these are still in great condition and are now dealing with one 4 and one 6 year old. we have stripped them down to the plastic and washed the covers (you will need to do this trust me) and its not a hard process and the seats go back together easily and don't bleed colour or deteriorate from being washed. I'd still recommend these, our girls are tall and these still fit them fine even though they are almost big enough not to need them any more. We also bought a difference more expensive design for our parents to have, as they were meant to be easier to fit and allow for the girls to use them for longer. that was soon put away as we let them borrow on of these as well as the more expensive unit and they asked not to have the more expensive one again as my dad struggled to fit it where as these are simple.

Great value for money. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to extend and tighten the arm straps, however after figuring it out it’s quite straight forward but still a bit fiddly. Really easy waist adjusting, and a quite simple way which is fits into the car, even though again quite fiddly. Definitely a car seat that is left in the car and not to be transported as quite heavy and hard to carry, but there is loads of bags available online which fit any car seat universally that have straps and carry handles. Drink cup holders are a little useless since most beakers/kiddie cups are too big to fit, but perfect size for take away paper cups. Also a little annoying that you have to take it all out just to recline it however as our son is still very young we just leave it in the reclining position for now. Overall quite happy with the product and it is very safe and secure, the fiddly bits just come with the lower price. If you want something more advance it will be more money

My sister just had a kid and i wanted to buy something that would help her out whilst travelling. Spoke to one of her friends and they recommended this seat. Having looked at it i don't think she'll need to buy another it is huge. The seat looks and feels incredibly comfortable and it is relatively easy to fit even for a l year old or under. It comes with 2 cup holders on either side and offers a large freedom of movement to play, eat and drink.Though the seat has a large cushioned head rest which is safe, the side rest isn't adjustable so there is limited support when my niece falls asleep. My only recommendation if this happens is to just add blankets as extra cushions when that happens. It's my only gripe but it's something that can easily be fixedOverall it's a good investment though if they have a model with an adjustable side head rest invest the additional £20-30.

I ordered this seat after a recommendation by friend and our son was growing out of the chair he had used since birth. It is a comfortable seat (my son seems to think!) that is relatively easy to fit. It has 2 cup/snack holders on either side of the seat and allows enough freedom of movement for play, eating and drinking. The seat features a large cushioned head rest which looks like a good safety feature but seems to provide limited support when your child falls asleep. We found ourselves using blankets or additional cushions to prevent his head lolling to one side during sleep.Despite this one shortcoming, I would have to say that this is a good seat and and very reasonably priced. The cup holders are a great feature as is the very user friendly strap adjustment system. A good buy.

Very nice car seat. Fitted brilliantly into my car. The figment instructions were simple to follow (I also recommend watching the video too) and the seat feels firm and safe. This seat moves between my car and the grandparents car and it always remains easy to get in and out and fits well into either car (different brands).Size and space for the little one seems good. The harness is strong and the buckle doesn’t seem at all easy to open by their little hands! The shoulder pads are nice and thick and the chair seems nicely designed for their comfort. Our little boy seems very comfortable and happy to be sat in it.

Having bought the Britax Römer (standard version) for my own car, my partner asked me to purchase the isofix version for his, maybe it was my fault having seen all other isofix car seats used, thinking it wouldn’t need the seat belt, we were wrong.Having paid the extra £80 we now realise it wasn’t worth the difference of the standard version, as the seat belt needs to be installed in the exact same way, therefore in my eyes making the isofix redundant.Love britax car seats and will definitely carry on purchasing they’re products, but this is a bit of a disappointment

19.6.2020

We bought our first pair of Britax Romers back in 2015 for my first born. The move from the infant carrier to this seat was so smooth because of the incline it provided, and its child-hugging design. We love everything about this seat that we bought two more in 2018 for our second child. In our view, there are only two cons with this seat:1. It can be a real hassle to install, but it hasn't prevented us from buying this seat again because we believe truly safe seats are not supposed to be easy to install2. The cup holders are too small for any cups we've ever had

22.5.2019

The seat is comfortable and spacious, my daughter is very happy to sit in this compared to her last car seat which was the group down.Easy to install and not as bulky once in the car as it looked when taken out of the box.Negatives are daughters head falls forward if she is sleeping, you can’t put it into recline without uninstalling it. A smaller issue is the belt connectors are not the easiest to bring together to connect to buckle my daughter in.It’s a solid seat and comes from a good brand you can trust, and at a very competitive price.

22.3.2018

The seat looks great quality and I like nearly everything except one thing, the recline is no good for us as our seatbelt isn’t long enough to accommodate the recline, there’s a piece of plastic you flick back or forward underneath the seat, but when in the recline postion we can’t clip in the seatbelt. Meaning the one thing I was looking for in a car seat can’t be used. I’m considering returning it as when my son falls asleep his head sometimes slumps forward, wouldn’t recommend forsmall under1

Appears well made. Reasonably easy to install and move between vehicles using the car seat belts. Good that can be used from infant up to 12 years. No complaints from infant user - so assume it is comfortable. Question mark over premium price for addition of Isofix connectors - ended up not using them. The non Isofix connectors version has cosmetic differences with the infants harness which looks like a manufacturers ploy to further differentiate the versions and encourage the premium purchase

This is the second one I have bought due to the first being involved in a car accident (without the child in) I've bought the exact same one again but wasn't told with the first one that it reclines slightly which is a god send with kids who love to sleep in the car.Haven't had any problems with either of the two I have had, they are easy to clean, easy to fit, currently being used for a nearly 3.5 year old who is very tall and on the final stage of the toddler seat.Absolutely love it

Great seat that will last my daughter for a good few years. It's easy to put it into the car if your seatbelt is long enough. It wouldn't fit in our middle seat, but worked fine by the door. The snack trays are a good feature, but as we have three child seats together they can't be pulled out. The recline feature can only be used if the seat is unbuckled which is a negative, but if you want it can be left permanently tilted until the child is older.Great seat for the price so I do recommend.

I brought this item for my niece. fitting it was a bit of a struggle what makes it difficult is the hook it has to go over but once its done then that's it. its really secure and sturdy and every time my niece goes in it she falls asleep so I'm presuming its very comfortable there's really great support around her head too which I like.its a great purchase really when you think that this will last until she's 12 and so I would highly recommend it. the belt seems easy to adjust as she grows

21.6.2017

This car seat is very good quality and looks comfortable. We've bought it for our 9 month old who is a little on the larger side so needed the next step up from the carry car seat. We wanted one which will see him through all of the stages which this one does. It was simple to install into the car, my only criticism is that when placed in the recliner position, you have to do it before fitting it, (you can't put it back and forth whilst the baby is sat in it) the seatbelt only just reached.
