Having been taught to cook rice many years ago by a foreign friend I was sceptical about the need for a rice cooker but my wife built a good case for it and so we bought the Breville Rice Cooker and Steamer. If I say the rice was better than anything I have cooked or even tasted from Chinese/Indian restaurants is no understatement. Once I had sorted out the quantities to suit two people I was away, the rice is light and fluffy and full of flavour and probably healthier than my friends version as it uses oil and lots of salt.A further useful benefit of this great small appliance is that it is a steamer too and has the same impact on steaming food as it does as a rice cooker, brilliant,The instruction manual is adequate although I would have like it to have been more concise with more recipes, but that is the only negative.Great price and super value considering it dual use, so 10 out of 10 for value for money. It is easy to clean and looks as good in a modern kitchen as I feel sure it does in a traditional one, I can recommend this item for people who enjoy making curries or oriental food as the rice is perfect every time.

I have used this quite a few times now for rice and for steaming. Comments below on the product;- The steaming feature is easy to use and great product for doing this. There is a handy cooking guide in the manual to tell you how long you will need to steam certain foods for.- The bowl is very easy to clean - no more will I have to deal with rice sticking to the bottom of my pan!- it may take a couple of times to get the consitancy of water VS rice and cooking time to get the rice how you like it. But it is so easy to use, makes really nice rice and great when you are cooking for more than 2 people.- It would be handy if there were grips on the bottom as the pan does tend to slip round the worktop when you are dishing up.- The measuring cup could be bigger and rather than working on one cup per person. Is to have a measurement for 1,2,3,4,5,etc people. Small point - but when cooking for 10 I kept loosing count and this was quite frustraiting. (not hard I know but when surrounded by people and kids all talking it was a challenge!!).All in all though - money well spent and I am so pleased I bought this.

I researched a lot before this purchase. My previous one had started to burn the rice at the bottom and the non stick was coming off (despite only using paddle provided and washing with a nylon brush). I first used it as a steamer and was concerned at the spluttering of steam and also a ring of water around the lid, like when using a slow cooker. Other reviewers have commented on this and I was going to return the product, but I thought I would use it as a rice cooker first, as this was the reason for purchase and I found it to be brilliant. There was no more steam than my previous cooker with which I had been very happy (and no spillages!). I have used the cooker a few times now with great results and no problems.I expect that in time the non stick will come off this one too. A nice feature of this model is that the mains cord detaches and so the unit can be brought to the table, and it looks a lot nicer than the insert only and does leave a trailing cord as happened with my previous one. That I got it at a sale price was a bonus.

I bought this under an emergency situation as I had already prepared my rice and peas for cooking (you know with coconut herbs peas etc) and my oven hob stopped working!! So I rushed out and bought this rice cooker and poured all what I had prepared in (following the instructions as best as I could under the circumstances) and........WOW! It was cooked perfectly. It weighs what you put in and therefore cooks it perfectly and keeps it heated for up to an hour ready to serve. WONDERFUL.My boyfriend was so impressed that he actually volunteered to cook the rice and now rice is his speciality LOL! It's funny listening to him boast. We've also tried plain white and brown rice...both perfick!!!Not tried steamer yet but I am sure it will be great also. Very easy to clean too!

I have had 4 rice cookers in 2 yrs, all different types, but this one is the very best ever.I prefer brown rice and if you follow the enclosed instructions it cooks to perfection :) yum. Iv found if you add a tsp of oil to rice it dosnt stick to bottom, as 1 reveiwer mentions. I sometimes pop a few frozen summer veg into steamer and mix with rice when cooked, serve with fish or meat makes a quick easy meal. Very easy to clean.I like the idea you can cook for a small amount or a large family.I always put my rice on to cook 1st as it keeps warm and if theres any left i pop it into individual freezer bags for a quick addition to a meal.Cant beat it for the price get 1 for urself.you wont regret it.

This rice cooker is so easy to use. I used to always buy the microwavable rice, but now i don't have to!I found it seemed to take a little longer than the booklet said, and required a bit more water, but it is easy enought to lift the lid, pop in a bit more water, give it a stir and set it back to cook again. One flaw with it is that it has no timer, though it does seem to automatically know when to switch to warm.Another thing is that it is quite big, and so for just 2 of us, we always end up making too much, as if you make less than 2 cups it may burn / dry out. It can easy be popped in a container and stuck in the fridge, so this is not a huge problem.

i had an old rice cooker which needed to be changed after having changed my all my kitchen equipment's to black. i needed a new rice cooker matching that colour. having brought most of house hold items from Argos ranging from tv, curtain, baby nursey equpiment, washing machine , frige, wardrobes, dryers and many more, as soon as i saw this rice cooker on sale i had to buy and i believe its the best purchase i've ever made in terms of a rice cooker. this item is a must have and i absolutely love it, it cooks rice beatifully and the streamer i use for softening my plaintains and veg. this is a must buy and its easy to get as all you have to do is argos it

I have had rice cookers for over 30 years and have tried every brand in that time. This is a really nice size, the lid doesn't clatter around during the boiling phase releasing steam and spattering water so the rice is perfect every time. Cheaper models loose their non-stick quickly and the lid rattles around, causing loss of heat and less fluffy rice, as well as mess on the worktop. Go for this one, it is superior in every way, you can feel the quality. Although I can't vouch for the length of time it will be non stick, as I have only had it a couple of weeks, I can say that the overall quality leads me to believe it will last a good amount of time.

After much research and having read all the reviews I decided to buy the Breville rice cooker. I have had a rice cooker before which didn't perform very well so was sceptical about this one. I have to say I think it is brilliant. I was amazed that it didn't let off too much steam (as my last one did). It cooked my Basmati rice to perfection and once it was cooked, it switched to the keep warm mode. I also steamed vegetables in the basket at the same time which was really successful. By the time I had collected the kids from school, dinner was ready! Didn't stick and was piping hot. AMAZING.

We purchased the Cookworks version of this a few months back and it was ok for cooking rice occasionally but we were cooking it daily (as the dog is on a chicken and rice diet). This one is a much better quality and has real non-stick, not just a coating of an inferior comparative. The cook-warm works well, the instructions are clear and concise. The steaming facility is really good as well, cooking leeks and cabbage within a few minutes. It does get hot and if you don't rinse the rice prior to cooking, it can spit out of the vent. Rinsing in hot water is usually better than cold.

I can cook rice...but hated when I never had a spare big enough pot, when I wanted it or when you have left overs and you've been out nearly all day and the kids are hungry and you wanna relax with a cuppa. But you have to get the rice going, whilst they snack on other stuff and chill in front of the tv...whilst your stuck in the kitchen AGAIN!!.Well that does'nt happen anymore...plus no more forgetting that I've got the rice on the stove and you burn it...perfect rice every time...need to try out the recipes in the booklet it comes with, lol.Worth every penny!!.

A friend has one of these and recommended it to us as a present. I just love it, it looks and feels stylish, dual purpose as can also steam veg at the same time as cook rice, simple to use and easy to clean afterwards, the rice dish is non stick. The internal dish is removal so you can put it on the dining table for dinner, no need to use a serving dish. Great value for money, would buy again. Once the rice has cooked it automatically switches from 'Cook' to 'warm' so keeps the rice warm until you want it without over cooking.

The cooker does everything it says and very well. We had trouble with sticky Basmati rice and it did not matter if we increased water or decreased. The answer was that we where using a SUPERMARKET BRAND Basmati Rice and when we changed to Tilda Basmati rice the rice was cooked perfect every time. So no problem with the cooker it would have just been nice to know that you need to use good quality rice. another tip is to make sure you wash the rice well until the water runs clear and you will have no problem with Tilda Rice.

I have been trying to cook rice in a pan and boy is it frustrating. Sometimes perfect but most often far from it resulting in a stodgy mess.Invested in the Breville after reading lots of reviews. All I can say is it is AWESOME! So easy, so clean (non-stick bowl is a dream) and you get perfect rice time after time. All you do is wash rice, 2 cups rice, 2 cups water, turn on and 20 minutes later prefect rice. Even if you leave it an hour it's still perfect (switches to keep warm mode). My favourite appliance!!

Really nice rice cooker, cooks to perfection without being stuck to the bottom, going stodgey, and losing half down the sink when draining the conventional way!THE BEST FEATURE is the world rice function...Cooks egg fried rice, Mexican rice, pilau rice, rice pudding and the most impressive the Indian tri colour rice by adding a few drops of different coloured food colouring turns you rice multi coloured... AMAZING!!!I now have rice for breakfast lunch and dinner my dog even enjoys it!GREAT PRODUCT!!
