A bin is a bin or so you might think, but this one does have a decent claim to be a cut above given the host of small but significant features it comes with, most of which work a treat… which is a good job really given it’ll set you back more than a hundred quid!In terms of specs: this is a 40 litre capacity bin (actually not that massive compared to some so do bear that in mind) which takes size ‘L’ Branbantia bags (it comes with one pack included). The height is a little over 2 feet (26 inches to be precise) and at its widest point it measures 17 inches wide. The depth is just 11 inches (a very useful dimension to keep in mind- more of which below!).So… what of the feautres?1.Most obvious is the flat-back design meaning less dead space and jutting out from the wall than conventional spherical bins; this is a genuinely useful idea in a modest-sized kitchen where the bin lives in the corner of the room, flush against the wall! I measured and with the bin flush against the wall, at the widest point, it juts out 11 inches into the room- not at all bad going.2. The lid doesn’t open fully vertical, meaning it won’t clatter against the wall even when the pedal is fully depressed: again, another useful idea (our kitchen wall clearly bears the scars from previous bins that lacked this feature!). There is a minor issue with this however because without the lid at 90 degrees, removing the inner bucket is *slightly* more fiddly.3. The lid is also ‘soft close’ so, once you’re foot’s off the pedal, it gently shuts rather than slams – another important extra4. The stainless steel finish is genuinely non-marking – I wasn’t sure about this but it genuinely doesn’t show fingerprints which is yet another massive plus, especially if you have small children, whose sticky fingers normally don’t mix well with stainless steel. That said, I’m not so keen on the steel-finish pedal; I’d sooner that was rubber or plastic or something more durable/easily cleanable.5. There’s a carry handle on the back of the bin… although that’s hardly an indispensable feature given that a kitchen bin will generally live solely in the same spot of your kitchen and you only ever remove and transport the inner bucket6. Speaking of which: the inner bucket has little pop-up handles which make removing the bin-liner a real doddle (unlike our last bin which, when full, needed the liner manually prizing out)7. The build quality is excellent: it’s weighty and sturdy and feels like it will last. The 10 year guarantee is nice but probably won’t be called upon.Ultimately, spending this much on a bin will be a personal decision but if space is an issue and money isn’t, then I’d recommend this as pretty much the perfect kitchen bin.

The shape of this bin is excellent - it replaced a round Brabantia bin, which stood out much further into the kitchen, whereas this one fits neatly against the wall, meaning that I have gained a fair bit of floor space. It tucks away neatly and out of the way, which is great if like me you don't have a huge kitchen. As you would expect with Brabantia, it is expensive but you get what you pay for - the wonderful finishing is fabulous (even my old Brabantia bin, which is years old, still looks smart and clean). Comparing the two, this new one has large handles on the side of the inner bin to lift out, so it's a big improvement on the thin semi-circular piece of metal that would lie down against the edge of the inner bin. This makes it easier to lift the inner bin, and wonder of wonders, when you lift it up it actually stops and holds itself about an inch off the bottom, which means you can put the bin liner in at your leisure and not have to lift the inner bin and put the liner in at the same time. The floppy strap at the back of the bin is also useful for lifting or moving the bin if you're doing a spot of cleaning (the old one had a metal wire handle). I love the soft-closing mechanism, which dampens the noise (but not as much as my smaller 20L round Brabantia which closes much more slowly and softly). The bin is quite wide, so uses special bags, which come 10 to a bag - this works out to be more costly, as my other Brabantia bin bags come in a pack of 20. The bag code is size L, and I don't know if supermarket brands would fit as the shape of the bin is quite unusual.I docked a star because although the bin is solid and well-made, it is just slightly too light so wobbles when you press the foot pedal down.

I love this bin. It looks stylish, does not show fingerprints, easy to open, tucks nicely against a wall, easy to get the bin out.The flat back os a big bonus, because it can get closer to the wall. I always wondered why they made some bins round. To open the lid, just lift it with your hand all the way up and it stays upright, to close just knock it down, and it silently closes. Or you could just press the foot pedal and the lid lifts up. This hold a large 30 litres, so would not need emptying everyday. It does come with 3 special made to fit bags, these are size G 23-30L and have a drawstring top. To fit a bag, lift the lid vertical to lock it in place, then pull up the two side handles and the inner bin completely lifts out.The bin bag goes all the way in, and is a nice tight fit around the top. Lower the bin back in and close the lid. You can not see the bin bag. I have tried Tesco Swing Bin Bags, they are deep enough but do not stay on around the top, which means that they can come lose and food scraps can get put inside the inner bin instead of the bag, also they are not as strong as the proper ones. I will keep looking for a cheaper bag, but they are only £5.88 for 40 at Amazon anyway (ASIN B00026LJRA), these are a perfect fit and strong with a tie top.I also like the small fabric handle at the back, so you can easily move it when cleaning the floor. The price may put people off, but on this occasion you do get what you pay for, and this is an excellent bin and highly recommended.

Have no doubt about it, this is no shrinking violet of a pedal bin! Measuring 660h x 430w x 280d with a 40 litre capacity and finished in brushed stainless steel it is quite imposing, especially in the smaller kitchen. However, because the bin has a flat back and a semi-circular front/side, the outline of the bin is softened somewhat. The bin is fitted with a foot pedal and the top stays open while ever the pedal is depressed. On releasing the pedal the bin lid closes gracefully and quietly. If you open the lid with your hand the lid stays open until you flip it closed, again it closes gracefully and quietly.Opening the lid exposes 2 handles and these allow the plastic inner container to be lifted out, this makes the fitting of the bin bag a lot easier. A pack of 10 bags are included and they have a tape which allows the top of the bag to be pulled closed for disposal. As always seems to be the case the manufacturers dedicated bags always seem a bit on the expensive side and I will be scouring my local supermarket for their own brand bags. The back of the bin is fitted with a carrying loop fixed near the top and this makes moving the bin a lot easier. There is no doubt that the bin a a little on the expensive side but it is a quality product and I look forward to it giving many years of use.

There's no doubt that Brabantia make good bins, and this one is no exception. It is very stylish, extremely robust and well-made and is a very practical shape. The brushed steel finish looks great and has a coating which keeps it smear-free and makes it easy to clean so it will keep it's good looks. It's pretty big at 40l capacity: it is 66cm high (pretty standard for this sort of bin) and about 44cm wide but only sticks out about 35cm from the wall or unit because of the flat back design, making it very practical. In use it is excellent. The pedal works very easily, the top is hinged so that it doesn't touch the wall when it opens and has a gently-closing mechanism. The inner bin has a couple of folding handles which make it very easy to remove, and if you swing the bottom of it forward a little it sits a few centimetres above its resting level, making putting in a liner very convenient. It's just a well thought-out design which makes life just that bit easier, which I appreciate in a product like this. There's not that much more to say about a kitchen bin; it's very practical and is extremely well made, with a 10-year guarantee. If you like the design, this will do you very well and I can recommend it very warmly.

This is an impressive bid that seems to tackle most of the frustrations with previous pedal bins. This is a large bin wide with a flat back designed to sit in front of walls or units. The 40 Litre version will sit under a standard work top but the lid bangs on the underside when open.It has been well thought out from the lid hinging away from the wall when open so it does not touch the wall behind and if you open the lid by hand rather than by foot it will stay open making changing the bags much easier, especially as you can hook the plastic liner in an intermediate position to assist changing bags. The lid is damped so it opens and closes smoothly, not quite sure if this justifies the "motion control technology" badge on the box though,a case of marketing getting carried away in my opinion. The finish is stainless steel and the bin feels solid if quite heavy and feels well up to its 10 year guarantee that is offered if you register.10 bin bags are supplied but new ones will need to be purchased which is an added expense compared with the small bin and supermarket bags that I used before. This is a well designed and stylish product but I still cannot reconcile spending over £120 on a pedal bin!

This is a really nice bin. Lovely finish that does not show fingerprints. It has a slightly rounded back (not a hard flat back) and quite wide. The idea is you can place it against a wall, or the end of a kitchen unit, without it extending out far. Don't get if you are trying to fit a bin into a narrow space - it's 43cm wide, more than you might expect, so measure first. There's lots of nice touches about it, showing Brabantia have learnt a lot over the years - and why it costs a bit more:* when you hit the foot pedal, the lid doesn't slam against the wall, but stops just short (nice and quiet, protects the wall)* when you lift the lid by hand, it stays in position* when you use the foot pedal and let go,the lid closes* the lid closes softly, but not slowly (so again, quiet, but not so slow as to let smells escape too long...)* there's a plastic container inside, with large handles, making removing the bag easy* a roll of special bags is included - though of course, you can use other 40L+ bagsDownside? Only one I can find - due to its shape, the capacity is not as huge (40L) as the largest Brabantias (45 and 50L) - but those are round, whereas the shape of this one is highly practical.

This a a brilliant bin. It sits flat against the wall and takes up the minimum space but is wide emough for scraping plates and tipping scraps off chopping boards. It doesn’t go for walks across the floor either like my old small round Brabantia pedal bin. The smells are well sealed in, and no more clanky lid! It’s easy to move using the fabric type handle at the back.I struggled to work out how to prop the bin half way for bag changing. You just lift and push it tothe back. The bin bags fit well (it came with three or four). It is worth buying the Brabantia bags as they are stronger than most, and are an ok price if you bulk buy on Amazon. We bought the 30l in mineral blue. The size is just right, big enough to last 2/3 days but not so big that it gets left too long and goes really smelly and foul. A good height for opening and getting rubbish without bits scattering on the floor. My disabled partner finds it much easier to use than our old one.The mineral blue is very dark, more akin to a blue black, but my kitchen is gloomy, .the colour may show more in a lovely bright kitchen.Expensive but since my small Brabantia bin lasted twenty odd years, I’m sure this one will do the same.

The problem that we had was that my wife wanted a bin sitting back in shallow recess. Standard bins wasted the space in the recess and stuck out. This one sits back ... it's like only the front half of the bin is there and the back half has been removed to leave the part sitting against the wall almost flat. It's like you've half a bin ... but it fits against the wall and that's the important thing. Then there's bin bags. It can take standard bin bags, but they just don't look right. You've got a nice bin with a bin bag hanging out at the top. The bespoke bin bags (that you get a few free with the bin to tempt you) fit snugly withing the bin and don't show on the outside. And,now that you've used the free ones, you'll want to stick with those bin bags. You have to buy those in bulk. A single roll of these bags costs too much per bag. Buy them in bulk (which you can on Amazon) and they come down to "well, that's a bit pricey, but I am paying for a bag that doesn't hang outside the bin".Pros: it does sit back against the wall.Cons: it feels like it's half a bin and needs emptied almost every day. You need to buy bespoke bin bags in bulk.

The Brabantia designers seem to have thought of everything when it came to this, possibly the ultimate pedal bin,The flat-back design saves you a little kitchen floor-space, as it will stand flush against a wall. The D-shaped base gives it a smaller footprint than conventional round bins, but it still feels totally stable in use. The pedal mechanism is wonderfully smooth and positive - like gently pressing the accelerator on a prestige car. The lid stops just short of a 90 degree opening angle, so it will not bash against your wall and the closing function has a quality damping mechanism so it shuts slowly and smoothly.Hard to fault this bin, but if pushed to make some criticism,it would be that the slightly odd size means the bespoke Brabantia bin bags will fit it best - and they are a bit costlier than most (a starter pack of 3 is supplied with the bin) and, of course, the initial purchase price of this bin is verging on the eye-watering, hence one star deducted.Still, if you don't mind paying for quality, this is almost certainly the best pedal bin you will ever buy and the 10 year warranty gives you good long-term peace of mind.

Brabantia are the Rolls Royce of bins, or so I've been told. What I liked about it is that it's an excellent design, really well built, and has a bucket inside that you can pull out with all your rubbish in and transport to the wheelie bin outside, then take the bag out of the bucket there. Never worry about a split binbag again! The lid is robust and satisfying to open and close. The downsides: you really should use the right binbags. Brabantia sell them, they have drawstrings, and are awesomes, but there are "compatible" ones too. Similar deal... cheaper. I mean, you can just use regular binbags, but they need a bit more effort to place and fold over the top of the bucket thing, lest they pop out of the sides of the bin (around the lid) once you've put the top back on.But put it this way. Look around in shops, nurseies, offices. They use Branbantia bins like this. Why? Durable, reliable, easily cleaned: a good product.

OK, at first I was skeptical. £100 for a bin is ridiculous. My car is worth £500 and it is a pretty effective bin already, and has easily 5 times the capacity. So we had a little argument about whether it was worth spending THAT much on a bin. I refused to pay my share, something which I now regret. But my significant other ordered it anyway to spite me. Consider me not spiten. I wasn't instantly converted. Sure the colour is nice, and the pedal action is smooth, and the lid opens like a Porsche sunroof. But I was smitten when I had to change the bag for the first time. SO EASY. My god my life is changed, never again will bin juice be spilled on my socks. I can strut across the driveway with pride. My other half, by the way is amazing and has totally just caught me writing this so I have to acknowledge her painstaking research and investment in this, OUR NEW BIN.

Beautiful. I can't believe I'm saying that a bin is beautiful, but it such an elegant shape. It fits neatly against my kitchen cabinets due to the flat back. It closes silently. It has a net black fabric handle for moving the bin around, which seems to be well balanced because even when the bin is full I can move it easily. The pedal is a sort of matt metal which doesn't show marks straight away.I bought the Brabantia size G bags which fit perfectly. The bin has green handles (coloured codes to match the bag size, I understand), which make lifting the inner container out to replace the bag a doddle. You can prop up the lid by hand when changing bags. I also bought the Brabantia 'perfume your bin'air freshener, which you stick to the lid. So far every thing works beautifully together. Well thought out, Brabantia!

I never thought I'd be so excited about a bin, but I am! I would never spend more than £20 on a bin but you can feel the difference in quality with this product - the pedal feels sturdy and operates smoothly, the lid never hits the wall and closes softly. It really does prevent odours from seeping out which is a very important as I have an open plan kitchen/living room. It's also very easy to wipe clean. As the bin is always on show, it's nice that this one is aesthetically pleasing to look at! The bin bag is hidden and the matt finish prevents unsightly fingerprints. My guests have even commented on it because they are surprised at how sleek it is and it feels different to other bins when theyuse it.I would 100% recommend this bin to anyone who is unsure - your money will be well spent!

What’s not to like about this cleverly designed, stylish, essential kitchen item? The colour is vibrant and even and it’s made from durable corrosion-resistant materials. It looks really, really good. The bin itself is flush against the wall – great if space in the kitchen is limited. It’s easy to handle and to clean, with a removable inner bin and folding handles. You can also take the lid off to wash it. The lid itself opens smoothly and silently by touch. These Brabantia people have thought of everything. There are even special ventilation holes in the inner bucket to prevent a vacuum when removing the filled bin liner. The bin features a sturdy, fabric carrying handle and a plastic, protective bottom rim, preventing damage to the floor.Lovely product with a 10 year guarantee.
