If you were one of the few who picked up Arc Systems original BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger last year then you will have enjoyed one of the most unique and exciting fighting game available. Wonderful, hand-drawn 2D sprites, fast, frenetic and deep combat, a proper story mode made it one of the sleeper hits of 2010. Now, Arc Systems has deployed `Continuum Shift,' half way between an sequel and a revision (Similar to Super Street Fighter IV) the game packs in tons of new modes, characters and a great deal of extra content to provide one of the most time consuming fighting games out there. For those that don't know, the BlazBlue series is the spiritual successor to Arc Systems previous franchise,Guilty Gear. Its strong emphasis on tactical one-on-one fighting mechanics combined with a very fast pace make it hard to master, however remarkably easy to pick up with the traditional four-button layout for weak, medium and strong attacks. The fourth button is unique to each character known as the `Drive' command and varies from deploying turrets, freezing enemies solid, charging a weapon, draining health and more. The fifteen strong list of characters isn't a high number but each offers a very unique playing style which can take dozens of hours to master. Gamers should be aware that there are more then a few DLC options including additional characters which really should have been included in the game instead of optional purchases. Therefore to the newcomer or the veteran, Continuum Shift offers an extensive `Tutorial' mode which is an excellent way to learn the games extensive mechanics. Complementing this, the `Challenge' mode aims to teach each combo for every character complete with CPU demonstrations. After gaining the ability to round off a twenty-hit combo you can move onto the `Arcade' mode for quick action, `Verses' for one-on-one combat, `Score-Attack,' an insanely difficult mode with scores uploaded to the internet, `Legion' a strategic mode where players capture enemy nodes on a map building a team from defeated enemies building up to a boss and like the last BlazBlue excellent, almost lag-free online play. The story mode carries on from the last games convoluted and insanely deep story, told through text bubbles and static character images. It may not be that fun to read pages and pages of speech before, you-know, actually beating something up, but the game redeems this with multiple endings, hilarious `gag-endings' and if you get the worst ending you'll be derided by one of the characters and lectured on how best to proceed complete with pop-culture references and extensive breaking of the fourth-wall.Blazblue is an excellent fighter with a huge amount of content and unlockables, the beautiful 2D sprites are complemented by a driving soundtrack and a sometimes hilarious English dub (although the option to play in Japanese remains). Well balanced and diverse the characters of Blazblue demand your attention, if you haven't played the original this is defiantly the best way to experience one of the most excellent fighting games out there.

If you're a fan of anime and fighting games or even just one of them you NEED to get this! Not only has it got a fantastic story mode with anime cutscenes and hours upon hours of gameplay (which includes three seperate endings for each character: a good, bad and a joke ending), it has modes for begginers (e.g. tutorial mode), modes for hardcore gamers like the 'Legion' mode which gives the game a stragey twist and modes for every skill level in between that help make you a better player. Like challenge mode where you can take up 300 different missions all specializing on the seemingly infinite combo possibilites. Also, most game developers like to brag about how 'lag-free' their game's online play is,well here it ACTUALLY IS FOR ONCE. If there ever is any lag it's in the skippable opening scenes of a fight (before the player gets in control). Not to mention great and original characters that each have they're own unique story arcs in story mode. In this Limited Edition version you get a bunch of A4 sized art cards with character combos on one side and poster worthy art on the other, plus a 96-page art book filled with concept art, CGI images and slightly suggestive character artwork...The only bad thing I can think of is that the characters downloadable from Xbox Live don't have their own story arcs and can't be used in legion mode or arcade mode either. Then again, atleast there are characters downloadable off Xbox Live, right?Anyway, here on amazon the limited edition version sells for less than the actually version (well it is while I'm typing this review anyway xD), so why the hell not grab this better version instead if you plan on buying the game? Trust me; you won't be disapointed!Joey T (Gamertag: Tavexion)

I missed out on Calamity Trigger so decided to give this a shot out of curiosity, because I'd read really great things about it.What I can I say? AMAZING fighter - easily the best I've played this generation and a real breath of fresh air over Street Fighter.Visually it's absolutely crazy. Gorgeous hand drawn srpites look and animate brilliantly. The character design is out of this world and, for once, there's a pretty bi story mode for those of us who aren't into the online side so much.Best of all though is just how diverse the character roster is. Ever character is totally unique and is like a game in themselves. There's a really good tutorial mode in there to tech you how the fighting system works and then there's a challenge mode that teaches you about stuff like combos. I've never played a fighting game that goes to this much trouble to teach you how everything works - I wish more would do that.Basically, this is an outstanding fighting game that really should not be missed. Don't be scared of the craziness - you owe it to ourselves to give it a try.

Whether it's playing on your own or duelling with a friend, this game is enough to make your palms sweat insanely! The story mode that they incorporated in the game is great, each character's backgrounds and interactions are very unique and interesting. The storyline with each Character gets you involved and just makes you want to play more and more. It's hard to get away from this game once you start, for sure!Playing with friends is always a way to have a laugh, the competitivity and fun always puts a smile on your face, and online mode is just as thrilling! A great game, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves Anime styled games or Street Fighter! A must have!

A friend recommended me to buy Blue Blaze: Continuum Shift to play with him on Xboxlive. I chose to give it a try while I didn't know anything about the series. What a surprise, I discovered a beautiful 2D fighting game, with an accurate gameplay, but also an impeccable netcode! No lag between Paris and Madrid, we are almost in the same room, congratulations to the developer of Zen for their work on network programming!

Bought this game for my teenage daughter, asked her to review it and here are her comments: Addictive game, absolutely love it, still enjoying it two months after receiving it, I would highly recommend getting this game if you like an action anime fighting. As you can tell she loves the game so I think it's well worth the money as it's keeping her interested.

This is a great game. The characters are very charismatic, the gameplay is very good, the combos are hard and requires skill to get all the gaming experience that can be achieved. Without a doubt, one of the best fighting games to play and can be fully recommended to fans of the genre.Everything in

The first BlazBlue was a blast and Continuum Shift is really much fun too. Only downside buying this game now is that the new version titled Extend is coming pretty soon and it includes extra content. Overall I recommend this game to all fighting game fans!

Beautiful, complex, great packaging. Complete time-sink. The caveat remains though, that for all of its aforementioned complexity, this is a niche game for 2D fighter enthusiasts. Glad that it was released in Europe.
