Let's face it, this is a very expensive bag, and while I do like the bag very much, it is questionable whether it really is worth the high price. As someone who has been through the route of buying countless bags, rucksacks, waistbelts and clip-on arrangements to hold my modest camera gear, and been frustrated with them all, I finally took the plunge and went for the highly rated Billingham. If you are considering this bag, you probably already know about it, and have looked at reviews here, elsewhere and videos of it, so I wont dwell on the product aspects and more on the stuff that may not be so obvious. Its quite small! Well, it is called the Hadley Small, somehow the video reviews I saw of it made it seem larger. The inner padded pouch is far too thick for a bag of this size, and wastes space. Sure we want padding but it is near 1cm thick, and as the bag material itself is pretty sturdy, a thinner padded material would be far more suitable for the size of the bag. The upshot of this is the remaining actual carry space inside is no more than a wide slot. Although its a flexible and accommodating space, it just strikes me that the attention to detail on the construction could be matched with that of the design. The Sage Green is pleasant, but somewhat darker than in the images of it. The strap is ok, but for this price they really could have included a padded shoulder strap rather than wanting a hefty £30 extra for it.The FibreNyte material is great, looks and feels pretty much like a natural material. It has flexibility without being floppy. It is a mini Tardis though, as you will see in video reviews, it seems to swallow up far more than one would think it could, and without bulging out and looking mishapen. The wife and I use a single bag for our walking and photo wanders, and in our Billingham we have:In the main compartment: Sony RX10 (if you dont know it think smallish SLR or larger bridge camera), Sony RX10 in a Lowepro case, 1 litre bottle of water, wife's purse and phone. In the two outer pockets: One houses a Lee filters system, bit of a squeeze but just fits. The other has sundries: spare batteries, memory cards, cable release, lens cloth, reading glasses, headache pills, penknife, emergency Mars Bar.So thats quite a lot of stuff in a small bag. When you empty the contents and look at the empty bag and pile of stuff, its quite puzzling how it all fitted inside. What isnt so obvious is that between the inner liner pouch and the bag itself you can slot in flatter items, such as lens cloth, a thin map, folded paper (A4 size is too large to fit without folding). An upside is that it doesn't scream out camera bag, and sits well on the body, it doesn't cantilever outwards like most camera bags.I really like this bag. Is it worth the money? No. Its £100 more than the equivalent Lowepro, and while its a lovely bag, the price differential is just too great really. But I am keeping it, and maybe that says more than anything else! And one small disconcerting aspect, all the reviews of it have shown it coming in a Billingham box, yet mine was just inside a plastic bag. Does make me wonder if this was one someone had returned to Amazon.

To the uninitiated Billingham prices are likely to appear on the high side, but once you see and feel the quality I am confident that any keen photographer will be suitably impressed with its ease of use and the protection it affords valuable precious equipment. The only difficult part I found was picking the right size bag for my needs. I carefully compared all the measurements [internal and external] for the numerous bags available and I initially decided the 225 was the bag for me. When that bag arrived I found that whilst I was more than pleased with the quality, features, appearance and flexibility of use,it was big enough for two cameras and all the accessories I was ever likely to need.Whilst it is rare that I want to carry so much I could still see its value in terms of use in the boot of the car when uncertain as to likely equipment needed at the end of the journey and the need for good protection. So the solution was to keep that bag and order a second smaller one for when I want to carry a bag thats not too bulky. I was tempted by the Hadley Pro but I did not want to get caught out again relying on the tape measure. I was left with the dilemma was the Hadley Pro too big or was the Hadley Small too small. The solution for me was to go on Youtube where I found numerous recordings on all Billingham bags including a professional photographers detailed comparison of the very two bags I was looking at.The result was that I went for the Hadley Small which I have to say I am delighted with. It takes a Canon 5d MK111 horizontally with lens attached and there is still room for a flash behind the camera and some small equipment on top using the very adaptable velcro padding. Two very useful expanding pockets on the front and with all the 'man bags' in use now it does not look out of place or draw attention. The big bonus is I suspect that only keen photographers will ever recognise it as a camera bag and few people will ever guess you are in fact carrying equipment worth possibly thousands of pounds.Sorry to harp on about size but the quality and flexibilty of Billingham bags is well documented and if you are going to pay Billingham prices I believe the bag chosen needs to fit personal needs exactly. My advice - any doubts go on Youtube.

Billingham Hadley Small.I've owned the Billingham Hadley Pro for a number of years and its been a great bag to carry my Nikon D300s and lenses around, best bag I've ever owned to be honest, but for the last year or so I've more often been using my Fuji XPro1 camera with 3 lenses and while the Hadley Pro is a great bag I just felt it was too big for my kit, extra size and weight that didn't fit with my kit. I looked around at a few different bags and considered a number of them but I kept coming back to Billingham and the Hadley Small, I looked at this bag before but it was too small for my DSLR kit hence the Hadley Pro, this time though perfect bag for my CSC kit and I know Billinghams quality and pedigree.Yes its an expensive bag but the materials and craftsmanship tell you its premium quality product. As expected the Hadley Small is the same excellent quality as the Pro just on a smaller scale so fits my needs perfectly, the size of the bag is surprising when you open the box initially, but its like a tardis inside. The bag offers great all around protection for my XPro1 and 3 lenses plus some accessories. The size of the bag might limit some with a DSLR kit unless travelling very light, for me the bag is the perfect size to hold all my CSC kit (if I get an additional lens I have the scope to be able to do that). I've currently got the 18mm, 35mm and the 23mm (23mm mounted on the camera) and just enough space in the bag for the 16-55mm if I decide to get it at a later date. The lenses I have now are more than enough to cover my needs and allow me to really enjoy my photography again without being overloaded with gear. The reason I got a CSC in the first place is so I'd take my camera with me more often and not break my back carrying too much gear with me.I will keep my Hadley Pro for my DSLR kit for when I use it but the Hadley Small is the perfect bag for my Fuji X kit and I'm glad I went with Billingham again (even re-used my shoulder pad for the strap which can be switched between the two bags). If your in the market for a good quality bag for a small DSLR or CSC kit then you can't go far wrong with this bag and it'll likely outlast you.

I had been searching for a new camera bag for quite a few months. I have a canon 60d along with a 15-85 lens and also the 430EX speedlight.I had been looking for a small comfortable bag, good looking bag that would take all this equipment. Because I like to store my camera in horizontal position I found that lots of camera bags were not suitable.I initially bought the Hadley small but then swapped for the Hadley Pro as it was that little bit bigger but I think my thoughts will still be helpful to others. The Billingham Hadley Small did fit all my gear perfectly with the camera sitting horizontally with the flash next to it but with the pro I now have the space to fit an extra lens when Ieventually purchase one.The internal padding is removable so you can take out the camera insert and use as a normal small messenger. All the padding is of very high quality as you would expect from Billingham. The Hadley small does not have a zip on the back which the pro does.I did purchase a fibernyte and a canvas bag at the same time as I did not know the difference between the two materials. The canvas felt a lot smoother while the fibernyte has a sort of shine to it. From articles that I read people had said that the canvas bag fades very quickly into a sort of brownish colour whereas the fibernyte holds its colour a lot better. As I didn't want a brown bag the fibernyte one was for me.The strap is nice and flexible unlike most of the crumpler ones I have seen and the shoulder strap is also rather nice accessory should you require it.The bag does cost a good bit more than other bags out there but when you are spending a lot on your camera gear you should really be protecting it in a good bag.Overall it is a very good looking, quality product so have no problems recommending it but have a look at the various other sizes available as they may be a better fit for your gear.

If you’re sitting on the fence about buying one of these bags I have some advice. Just do it ! It’s a fabulous little bag, top quality and built to last. There are so many different ways to use it. I use mine as an all purpose ‘man bag’. It carries a digital rangefinder camera, flash, spare batteries, phone and wallet with room left over for snacks, and that’s without using the two front dump pockets. The strap is long enough to position the bag anywhere from top of the thigh all the way up to your waist. I carry mine cross shoulder low down on my hip. I’m 183cm or 5’10” and there is plenty more adjustment for taller people. The best feature is the removable insert pouch. I invested in an extra one.The Velcro dividers are strong and very sticky so rather than battle with removing Velcro each time I want to use it for a different camera or setup I have a separate pouch configured to hold a Nikon D750 with 24-120 lens and SB800 flash. Place a divider horizontally about 2 inches up from the bottom of the bag, slip the flash under the divider then place your camera on its side using the protected flash as a lens rest. There is still room for the second divider to create space for a phone and spare batteries etc. The two inserts change out in seconds with one press stud, instantly converting the Hadley Small from all purpose travel bag to dedicated camera bag. This is not a large bag but if it was any bigger it wouldn’t feel or handle the same. Worth every penny.

The 5 stars are for the excellent quality of the bag and for the seller (Camera Kings). The bag arrived very fast, looks great, and is of very good quality. After receiving the bag, I soon realized it was too small for my needs. I have a Canon 7 D with a 15-85 mm lens. When my camera was in the bag (lens facing downward) it deforms it slightly (the 7 cm thickness of each of the Hadley series bags, is a bit too small for the 7d). However, when the bag is closed its not noticeable and it is quite nice to have a bag that doesn't look so thick. The bag was also a bit too small for me regarding the height. With the hood in inverted positiony my camera fitted perfectly in this bag with space to spare on top. With the hood in the outward position the bag still closed nicely but the doublecover (under the main cover) left quite a bit of the camera uncovered (because the bag is not thick enough to cover the whole 7d).I returned this item to Camera Kings and was refunded very fast. I will purchase the Hadley Pro instead as I think it will have a better size. Although it is also 7 cm thick I really dont think the deformation is noticeable at all with the bag closed, and the small thickness looks quite slick. So, great bag, great service, double check the size before ordering.

Very much a considered purchase- have purchased many bags over the years, and having changed from DSLR system to a compact camera system wanted something more suitable, and this was my first Billingham bag purchase.A lot of research prior to purchase and settled for the Hadley Small Canvas in Black (having agonised over canvas v fibrenyte).Fuji Xpro1 with 18mm,27mm and 35mm lens comfortably fits in,in addition a side pocket at back (inside)will take iPad mini or Kindle paper white.Front two pockets are expandable and will take charger, spare batteries, memory cards, cleaning cloth, etc.Love the quick release straps.Preferred carry-Strap over one shoulder and bag at over other side, didn't opt for the padded shoulder strap.Tested in a shower and pleased, water seems to run off.I understand that the canvas fades over time (unlike the fibrenyte) but that adds to the appeal. Also have to be careful with grease etc.Bag also comes with a cloth bag to store the bag in-I use this as the canvas is a bit of a magnet for dog hairs etc.Bag will last a lifetime-quality build-very pleased with purchase.

This bag actually employs quantum physics defying technology in its manufacture. It is small and unobtrusive, so much so, my daughter accuses me of having a "manbag". However it can take more equipment than you think, I can fit a Bronica ETRSi, with 50mm mounted a second back, 150mm lens, lightmeter, Rocket blower, Olympus XA and flash plus couple of rolls of film AND my Kindle,ORCanon fd system: 2 bodies, 28, 50 & 70-210 as well as Olympus, meter, blower etc,ORBronny with 50mm and 1 Canon body with 28 & 50 plus meter and blower etc. This is an answer to prayer for everyday or lightweight travelling/tourist photography. The quality of manufacture is unsurpassed, the ageless style suitable for both fashion gurus and old gits like me. What's more it doesn't scream "CAMERA, STEAL ME". I do now have to decide what kit I'm gonna take BUT my body thanks me for the lighter loads. I was lucky enough to buy a mint s/h one off eBay but would be happy to buy new at available prices. I would be happy to recommend it.

Most importantly, it looks inconspicuous. It just looks like a small bag. A man bag, if you will. Less importantly, it's extremely practical. You can take all the bits out of it and arrange it however you like. It also fits much more than you'd think - I can fit an EM10 with 25 and 45, and a Canon Ae1 and 50 in it. With room for a tiny tripod and all the lens caps, batteries and whatever in the front pockets. Another thing is that something to do with the top cover means it's incredibly easy to get in and out of and I'm sure that has been designed into it (not just talking about the quick release buckles). One thing to note is that the 'Small' isn't big enough for documents. You'll need the next one up if you want to be able to put papers in without folding them. Other than that, the it does brilliantly at carrying numerous small objects, camera related or otherwise. It's a great bag. One star off for the steepish price.

Bought this canvas bag nearly a month ago and i'm not disappointed at all from Billingham brand. Very well made and feel. The canvas seems tough and is waterproof backed-up by olive drab nylon/polyester interior, leather trims are thick, strongly padded removable insert, two big enough flap front-pockets. It does suit all my needs at the moment and easily fit my "Digital Gear" as a Nikon Coolpix P7000, a small analog Ricoh GR1s camera + another small analog Contax T2 camera. It could also fit my small table Cullmann Tripod Copter and a Nikon SB400 speedlight + one Stofen Omni-Bounce, wallet, keys, extra battery (P7000 + AA ones), others small stuff. Extra space between the insert and the back of the bag to fit papers and Grey Scale. This bag is highly recommended for Hybrids Cameras and Digital Compact Expert and others. Like it a lot!

Expensive, well made and probably the most practical bag for compact system cameras/bridge cameras.Billingham is synonymous with quality and usability and the Hadley Small is a perfect example. I use it to hold my Panasonic G5 c/w standard zoom, a Sigma 19mm, a Sigma 60mm, a small Metz flash and several other small accessories. The Hadley Small doesn't seem that small inside - in fact it's a bit of a TARDIS and it's quite surprising how much kit will fit in. That said, I think I might have opted for the Hadley Pro or Large if I had intended to use it for my dSLR gear. The bag just looks great and oozes quality. Best of all it doesn't scream "hey, I'm a camera bag".This is a bag I will keep and use for many, many years - long after I (and the wife) have forgotten how much I paid for it!

Smaller than I expected but big enough actually. Supremely well mad. It's my fourth Billingham three which I still have one which I sold because it was too big and I didn't require a bag so large not being a pro and more. If you think Billingham are expensive then let me assure you they are not. They will probably outlast you no matter how much you abuse them and you will hand it down to a son or daughter who will be proud their Mother or father had such good taste - and they will be prohibitively expensive by then also eg. one I bought years ago for about £50 is now selling for £250. Wonder how much you knackered Lowepro will fetch by then?

Billingham bags are known for their quality - yes they are expensive - but you could go through 3 or 4 camera bags, which would basically cost the same as one billingham hadley small.I've only had it for 1 day, but here are my thoughts:I use this bag with a Canon 60D with a 17-55mm lens and the lens hood attached. Fits a treat... plus room in the back for my iPad 2 too.. (just about)..You can also take the entire padding insert out and use the bag as a general purpose bag around town or whatever... so that's an added bonus.Overall, recommended! and contrary to what others might say, the black is nice looking :) plus it's discrete

The last Billingham bag I bought was in 1992 - it's still going strong with only very minor wear in the extreme corners. It still looks new, despite being my working 35mm bag all these years. Now needed a small bag for a rangefinder and a couple of lenses and went for the Hadley small. Absolutely perfect and very happy with the purchase. Space for a body with lens fitted, extra 2 or three lenses, spare battery, charger etc. The black canvas, black leather and chrome trim looks great - a recommended alternative to the regular khaki/brown! I would recommend this bag - and in fact any other Billingham product: They just make stuff properly!

9.1.2017

As expected from Billingham this is superb. Materials and quality of workmanship are first class and this is a bag that will last for years (I have had my two other Billingham bags 40 years!). It's compact. but surprisingly spacious, albeit snug. It takes my Fuji X-Pro2 with 23mm f1.4, 16mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 in the main compartment plus in the spacious two front pockets I can fit the battery charger, lens hoods, caps and memory stick. In the main compartment there is also a padded rear pocket where I can slide an iPad 2. I hate to describe something as perfect as no such thing exists, but this is as close to perfect as a bag can get.
