I broke my coccyx in 2007, but it still aches when I've been on my feet for long. The solution to date has been the use of a heat pad, made by this same manufacturer, but that means reclining on a sofa or a bed to get the full benefit. Additionally, the cover on that isn't very plush and looks rather tatty, as well as being thin and a bright unattractive orange. This is far classier in looks, and as it wraps round and lies flat against my back and sides (I am a size 10-12 and this comes round to about 6 inches away on each side from my bellybutton), I can sit upright with it on. The fabric is both plush and soft, like velour and I'm pleased to say that it doesn't attach itself to my clothes or sofa. The bad thing about it is that unlike the heat pad, this has no removable cover, so cleaning might be an issue. It does say that it's machine washable up to 30 degrees, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk it, as according to the instructions you can't remove the anchor for the lead, meaning that there's the tiniest chance that it could retain water and cause a nasty shock or short. The belt is flexible enough that I've been able to flex it so I can sit on it so that my coccyx is in direct contact with the heat, and also my lower back area, so this is a huge plus for me, as I have more than one area that aches. In terms of performance, it heats within about 3 seconds of it being turned on, no lie - I later found that for the first ten minutes of use, there is accelerated heating. I popped the lead in and as soon as I pushed the dial up to 3, I could feel it heating up. The pad heats all the way round, not just in the back area, which is great for lower pack pain that tends to extend to the hips. The belt is wide and with generous stretch, meaning that my 18 stone hubby can also use it, though it is only his back area that gets covered. The velcro fastener is a patch of about 2x3 inches, and so holds the belt firmly in place. I've gotten up, walked around and bent down in this and it doesn't budge. It can also be used across the stomach, great for period pains.I'd say that the lead is about 10 feet in length, so it can easily be plugged into a main socket without restricting where I have to sit. I've even had it plugged into my (small, narrow galley) kitchen when I'm in there, although I've made sure that everything I'm in contact with is bone dry.Within about 10 minutes use, my aching coccyx is soothed, and I can then dial the setting down to 1 to provide gentle warmth. It goes off automatically after 90mins of use, so you don't have to worry about falling asleep with this on at night time. A great item,

I am actually wearing the Beurer Heating Pad while I am writing this review and wow this is a seriously fantastic source of pain relief for me and I am really impressed with it and currently debating not taking it off again! I have arthritis which affects pretty much most of my body and so I spend a lot of time with either a hot water bottle or microwave heat bags as I find the heat does help to reduce my pain a bit and stops me having to take pain killers all of the time. I can see this pad being used an awful lot by both myself and my husband who suffers with a bad back. This pad is in a soft fleece material and is extremely comfortable to wear.Even on the lowest heat setting I can feel the soothing heat through my clothes and it's a comfortable heat which feels exactly like a hot water bottle without having to hold it in place. The heating pad has an elasticated waist band which then attaches to a velcro patch on the main pad part and as I am not a small woman I did wonder if it would fit me but it does and it is very comfortable too. The heating pad attaches via a lead and plug to your plug socket and on the lead itself is the controller which has 3 heat settings numbered from 1 to 3 along with a 0 setting for turning the heat pad off. Not only does the slider show the numbered settings but there is a large viewing window which also shows the settings in big type and so this would help anyone who needs larger lettering/type such as maybe an elderly person. The numbers also light up in the viewing window to further assist in seeing the setting selected. The plug lead is a decent length but you will need to sit near a plug socket when using the heating pad or perhaps if this isn't possible also use an extension lead. The heating pad has a safety auto shut off after 90 minutes and is also washable. The heating pad also comes with a 3 year guarantee. On the heat setting 1 it is a very gentle heat that feels like a cooler hot water bottle but on heat settings 2 and 3 it really does pump out some fantastic heat. I am seriously impressed with this heating pad and had never considered using one before now but I don't think I could go back to hot water bottles now I know how good the pad is. I will definitely be purchasing another as a gift for my grandmother who suffers terribly with her back and I can't recommend the heating pad enough. If the pad develops any issues in the future then I will update this review to advise.

A godsend for bad backs, easy to use and feel the heat to soothe the muscles. You can actually feel the slight heat through your clothes, warm but not too warm. Have a previous model of this and so annoyed when I lost the control, as this one is also machine washable which is useful. The control comes off for cleaning it, really good idea if using creams etc on your skin and any residue gets onto it.It does turn off after ninety mintues so no worrying about it being left on. To me it is more like a mini electric blanket, snug and warm feeling when placed on area having spasms in back.I use mine for suffering with OA and back problems due to fibro and find it a godsend on a bad pain day as youcan target the area with this and feel some slight relief in that area much better than a hot water bottle. Maybe not quite so hot as a hot water bottle but safer, just plug it in and heat. Plus with it having the elastic strap it holds it in place, so no more relying on having to stay very still to keep it in place unlike a hot water bottle, one slight move and you then struggle to get it into the right position again. With this it kind of moulds to your body and is comfortable, even more so than my previous one which was a square shaped one without elastic strap. One you could use sat up in chair or bed and get instant heat and relief.Teenage son has been doing some log shifting and complaining about his aching back, so used this and he thinks it the best thing ever and says his back feels comfortable and not so sore. Compared with a hot water this wins hands down, as able to still do his gaming with it on too. A winner for two in our house.

This arrived in a very attractive box with great packaging appeal, immediately assuring me of its excellent German made quality. On the outside of the box is a small sample of the material used and you know right away that this is going to be great, it's very soft and comforting. I also have a sheepskin heat pad which is lovely but does not stay tightly around me unless I secure it somehow,e.g. with clothing. Even then it is not as "huggy" as this product which is wide enough to wrap itself around me like a big, warm hug! It's very comforting and I've used it just to feel snug and contented on cool, wet evenings in by the TV.The sheepskin one is still good for wrapping around limbs as required.I suspect this Beurer pad would be less comfortable if you were rather large as the stretchy securing straps might not be the best thing but they are quite wide too so maybe I am just looking for potential problems. They suit me well and I'm a "medium". Of course if you were really large they might not meet and therefore you'd be better of with the flat pad style I already had. This one would be good placed in front if you had a tummy pain as well, better than a hot water bottle.Of course, as its mains operated, you can't move around wearing this so bear this in mind when choosing. If you need to remain mobile, look for one of the rechargeable battery operated ones, I also have one of these (clearly a heat pad addict!)

Love this, although I find it very tight and wish they did a range of sizes. I have suffered back pain all my adult life which now combined with arthritis can make just getting through the day a misery. This offers soothing heat to the worst affected area, wrapping round so I don't have to wedge a wheat pack in impractical positions, while sitting in my armchair when I can barely move and standing and walking is agony. With this and anti inflammation cream I can just about function on my very bad days, and will be a complete Godsend this winter.I'd really like a larger version, having put on so much weight due to my lack of mobility. The back heating pad is very comforting when you are in pain.As it is a wide belt it does cover up to just below the shoulder blades. As my pain tends to be mid as well,as lower back I found this an extremely useful feature. It is an attractive cosy fleecy material, which keeps the back warm even when not switched on. It heats up really quickly when switched on. I've not washed it yet as it doesn't really get dirty.I liked the fact that the lead disconnects at the belt, so I don't need to either take the belt off or walk about with the cable. I tend to wear the belt for a while after heating as although it cools down quickly when switched off, its still cosy because of the lovely material.

I suffer with a long-standing condition which causes lower back pain that extends into my upper right thigh. It's a condition that can flair up at any moment, without warning, and doesn't respond overly well to pain medication. As I wasn't keen on loading up on pain meds, I began looking for an alternative method of pain relief. It was actually my physiotherapist who recommended investing in a heat pad and I chose this one mainly because of its size.I've had this now for about 6 months and can honestly say it's been a great investment. I don't wrap it around my back but instead lay it on my sofa partway up my back and extending down to my thigh. The ability to increase or decease the temperature has also been great as sometimes I need it to be hotter to be more effective. It stays on for around 90 minutes at a time (I think) which is usually enough for me to find relief from the pain.Coupled with my usual painkillers, this definitely helps to improve my levels of pain and discomfort. It's very soothing and has the added benefit of keeping me warm when it's cold!

I've been having some muscle problems with my back recently: stiffness and pain. Stretching and the usual dose of anti-inflammatories help, but it can still be difficult to get comfortable in the evening. Being plagued with discomfort in the small amount of time I have for relaxing is extremely frustrating, so I'm pleased with this heating pad. It fits snugly after a little adjustment of the elasticated band, and the settings are simple. The elements are evenly spaced and seem to produce heat equally, so there aren't any overly hot or cold spots. The automatic shutoff after 90 minutes is useful if you think you might nap while having the heat on.I've found that the heat definitely helps with the pain and stiffness. As the colder weather comes in I'm sure I'll appreciate it even more.

The real bonus with this heating pad is the depth of it. I have used other non electric pads and these only keep their heat for a few hours. This pad heats up quickly and once switched off retains some heat for a short time. If you do want continuous heat then you need to be close to the power source. It is not practical to move about very much with this plugged into the power and so I have used it whilst seated. I would not use this with an extension cable. The pad is made from a high quality and thick material. The band used to fix the pad in position is flexible and does hold the pad effectively. The pad does help reduce my back pain which is mainly muscular.I have not needed to wash the pad yet but note that this will reduce its effectiveness in the long term.

I am wearing it now and its great. My genetic make-up seems to have avoided all the major nasties. Instead we get deaf, rotten headaches and chronic bad backs. Plus evil period pain. This great little heating pad/belt is great for back and abdomen discomfort. It's simple use, plug it in, adjust to the correct temperature and strap it on, then you are wrapped in blissful heat. The fleece material adds to the comfort as does the rapid heating. You don't have to wait long for the lovely heat to soothe away aches and pains. All drug free. Result! The clever design means you can adjust the belt to heat either the front or the back. All round cosiness. Nice!Just remember you are wearing it,I forgot I was and nearly fell over the cord.

My wife has been using one of these for about a year, borrowed on and off from our daughter-in-law. She has chronic intermittent lower back disk problems which cause sometimes quite prolonged pain and weariness. Her feelings about this heat pad are that it would be truly wonderful if it were portable as her pain comes on while standing rather than sitting! As it is, she uses hers while relaxing - watching TV or reading. Some reviewers report that this newer model is not as warm as the older models, which I believe this is owing to European safety regulations. However, my wife finds it a very effective level of heat and feels that if it were much hotter it would be too uncomfortable for prolongeduse.

I obtained this for my partner who as a teenager had a bad fall from a horse and suffered a back injury which still flares up occasionally. She usually uses a hot water bottle to help ease the pain but this Beurer back strap heating belt is a much more user friendly was of applying soothing heat to the affected area. Simply place around the body and plug in and switch on. It has a thermostat which regulates the heat and prevents it from getting too hot. The belt itself is very soft and comfortable to wear apparently although you cannot wear it throughout the night in bed.A useful bit of kit for back sufferers.

I love it. I have lower back problems but this seems to help an awful lot when the pain decides to pay me a visit. It's very soft and warms up quickly. With the lightning deal it turned out to be quite cheap too.One thing that isn't shown clearly in the pictures (but shouldn't be that much of a surprise) is that it doesn't have any sort of battery so when using it, you have to be around a plug. The packaging claims that it's washable but I'm not sure I think the idea sounds safe.

Stolen! By my wife, with a parting shot of 'Ooooh that feels nice, perfect for me' (she suffers from really strong back / abdomen pain on a monthly basis). The result, a slightly less stressful household, a loved piece of back technology and the theft was positive after all! Perfect.Comes with auto shutoff and many other great features and even a little circle of the soft material on the outer box, for me to use as a reminder of what I am now missing.

This product would be suited to a person of medium build as its capacity and width are made for that size- it's easy on/ off operation is quite simple and it's warm safe and comfortable but not as hot as a newly filled hot water bottle which is what we had always used! The quality is more than adequate and packs small and flat in to the box for storage.

Bought for a friend who feels the cold and also gets back etc. pains; she likes it a lot, uses it a lot. Also uses it for her feet, butt, etc. :-)It seems a bit expensive (e.g., we bought a foot-warmer for about 1/3 the price on ebay), but it's clearly well-made and good quality.
