This is my first ever heart rate monitor. I have recently started getting serious about fitness and started doing some research into HRMs. I initially was going to purchase a polar but was put off by the price. This one here appears to have the same functions as the polar but at half the price so I decided to take punt. Well, it arrived this afternoon and I used it straight away. In the box, is the box is the HRM wrist watch, chest strap, extension belt, instructions booklet and a little drawstring pouch to house the units which is very handy. It's fairly straight forward to set up and the instructions provided are clear and and concise. Within minutes, I had changed, the date and time and units of measurment and entered my personal profile (gender, weight, height and my upper and lower heart rate limits). I then put on the chest strap and it took a little while to register my heart rate. I followed the instructions and wet the sensors and after a while the watch registered my heart rate.I used it this evening to record a work out DVD that I normally do. I set the watch to training mode and run and off I went! It was great being able to glance on my wrist to see whether I was working with my optimal heart rate for fat burning which made me push myself a little harder. For the first time ever, I also have an accurate reading of the amount of calories I burnt during the session. It was a revelation! My only tiny complaint is that each of the 4 buttons on the watch have separate functions, but these are not labelled on the watch. You have to refer to the booklet to work it out which is the menu button and which is start/stop etc. I don't understand which the manufacturers just didn't lablethe buttons im some wasy. Still, I guess I will get used to it with time or nick some of my kids stickers to remind me which is which! One other thing, if you go a little over say your actual weight when inputting, I couldn't figure a way to go back one, so had to go up till the maximum to restart. If anyone worked out how to go back one, do please let me know. The watch itself is very chunky, not the most faminine but hey, that's not is primary purpose! It feels solid and well made with a large display so its functional rather than pretty. All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the kit, worked straight out of the box, didn't take me long to set it up and does exactly what it says on the tin. As this is my first HRM, I can't say its the best out there but it's pretty good for the price and makes you wonder what makes the other brands charge so much for theirs?? If you're looking for a good solid HRM at a decent price, then definitely go for this one.-

I used this monitor for a month now on my 50 and 90 minute runs, of which the former I do several times a week and the latter once on the weekend. I run in order to keep fit and healthy rather than as a sport. However, I wanted to monitor my heart rate to make the most of my runs. I didn't want a lot of bells and whistles, but I did want something accurate and reliable. I have found it in this monitor. This monitor has everything I needed: ability to record run time, average heart rate over the course of the run, maximum heart rate reached during the run, kcal used and fat burned. Although this monitor does not display the data for the minute-by-minute heartbeat readings throughout the run only just the average,I didn't really want that level of sophistication so I wasn't going to pay for a monitor that did that. However, this monitor has a function to enter the low and high points of your target zone and keep track of the time you stay in it during the run. I have found this very useful and motivating. After determing my maximum heart rate by interval running with an uphill climb, I calculated my personal target zones for weight management and also aerobic training. I have also used the monitor to get a feel for the correspondence between measured heart rate and perceived level of exertion by glancing at the heart rate reading at planned points during the run. This helped me to begin to know just by how I felt, what pace I use, and how long I run, just what zone I am in. I found the instructions and operation of the monitor very straightforward. The signal is consistent and I never have trouble with interference, albeit I only run on the beachfront and in the forest. I can confidently recommend this monitor to people like myself who run for the health benefits with a desire for a little extra structure and precision to their effort and also runners who like to combine input from their own body and brain with output from a device to get a intuitive feel for their body's performance. It is an excellent buy for the price!

After having brought this heart rate monitor I wanted to mention a few points that I think people have missed out. I'll highlight the negatives as I thought these were not clear upon reading the reviews. I have read that it is a good looking watch but I have to disagree. The watch strap is made of rubber and it looks like a toy. For running purposes it is fine but I would not wear this as a watch for any other reason. The images on amazon do not represent how cheap it looks and feels in real life.Secondly, I found that the day I purchased this watch my wireless connection dropped to less than 1 mb. After testing it appears that it is the strap that interferes with my wireless connection no matter where I put it in the house. To solve this I have removed the battery from the strap. This is easy to do as it only requires a coin to open the cover to remove the battery. I use this monitor to run outside so this is not a big issue for me but I can imagine it being a problem for people who want to use it at the gym with various electrical equipment around. My last critical point is that the menu's are not intuitive and it took me quite a while to figure out how to set the watch up. The instructions provided are very clear but I have to keep resorting to them to figure out how to carry out certain tasks (e.g. clearing the record history). I am sure I will get used to this in time but it is quite a pain when you first start to use it.On the positive side it is good value for money and it performs its functions extremely well. I have no complaints of the actual function of the product and it is for this reason that I have rated it as 4 stars.

In my search for a HRM with calorie counter I'd looked at both very expensive and very cheap models. I'd say this model falls very much on the cheaper side but you wouldn't know it from the product itself. It feels high quality and very solid a durable.I ordered this one as its one of very few models that had mostly positive feedback. It was also the least expensive of those models so figured it was worth a shot. When it arrived it was hard to figure out but after reading the instructions fully I set up my user, changed my units to lbs and inches and I was away.As far as I can tell this watch/chest strap combo is very accurate. At the gym the treadmills heart rate reading was the same as my reading on the watch and on the cross trainer it actually detected my chest strap and monitored my heart rate without me having to touch the handles (a pleasent surprise!)Calories burned seemed very accurate. Again with the cross trainer and treadmill programmed to my statistics the readout from both was within a few calories of that of this HRM.I wasn't sure how to get it to detect my heart rate at first (when I put on the chest strap) but the strap works best directly under you bust (literally where your boobs stop) and the bumpy strips need I be slightly moist to get it going but once that's done and it's picked up the signal (on the watch signal shows as a little heart) your good to go for hours!Great price, all the features of a more expensive model in this package for about 1/4 of the price.I'd say if your a beginner at looking into this stuff (like I still am) then this is where you need to start.

I think this watch is a must have if you want to monitor your workouts and help maintan weight loss. I never used to be into things like this but i really need to lose weight because i have a big event i need to attend at the end of june. First of all, some people have been saying that it does not detect your heart rate. When i first used it i wet the pads on the chest strap and put it on. It detected my heart rate straight away, but then went again. You have to be sweating so it can detect your heart rate and also your rate has to rise. Sometimes it doesnt detect my heart rate if im just standing there doing nothing. Now onto the features of the watch i give it a 10/10.I love the fact that you can see how much calories you've burnt during your workout and you can see how much fat you've burnt. I find this useful because then you can maintain your weight loss and aim to burn the same amount of calories every day. You put in your height, weight and gender and it works out how much calories you burn depending on your heart rate i think. I took me about 10mins to set it up and a further about 5-10 mins to get used to the controls. Once i knew how to change betweem the modes its easy to use.You can set a specific training mode aswell e.g fat buring mode or performance mode, things like that. I cant comment on this becauase i havnt used it yet.All in all i would recommend this to anyone who wants to lose weight.

I bought this to replace an old basic Polar monitor after its battery went - since I didn't think I could replace it myself (following the reviews when I bought it). An attraction of the Beurer monitor was that reviewers said that they could replace the batteries themselves. This indeed looks straightforward for the chest strap (battery inaccessible on the Polar), though a little tricky for the monitor: you'd have to take the back off. This monitor does all I need of it at least as well as the old Polar one did. It doesn't give me weekly summaries, but these weren't much use. It doesn't have algorithms for suggesting what my safe limits should be - but I didn't like these at all.It does give me a reliable heart rate (though with a bit more fluctuation, perhaps), and average heart rate, time at high, low and between rates, estimated calories and fat burn at the end of the exercise. It isn't as clever as the old Polar, but that makes it easier to use. I wear it at the gym and when running. The chest strap works fine with the gym machines, allowing me to use the cardio programmes. There is probably not much to choose between this and the base model Polar (which has moved on since my old one). The Beurer is a bit simpler, and so probably better if you only want basic functionality. And you can replace the batteries more easily.

My very early reactions are all positive. The Beurer was bought to replace a 6-year old Polar whose sensor strap had died. Easy to set up when using the simple, clear instructions (though with my poor eyesight, I wish the instruction booklet were in a larger type!). The 4-button controls are easy to use - more logical than the Polar system - and the display is clear and easy to read. I like the options for reading heart-rate during exercise either with time elapsed or with clock time (and it is easy to swap from one to the other); and I like the ease at which one can temporarily stop recording when, for example, one stops for a rest or chat! Clearing the memory function (e.g. after one training session)requires positive action (depressing stop button for 5 seconds), so clearing cannot be done accidentally. Summary data provide more than I require: average, max., min. bpm, calories, fat burn, etc.; serious athletes would probably prefer more. Both watch and strap can be worn when swimming. Both have easy battery replacement systems - in contrast to my previous unit, which calls for a new strap or return to service agent for battery replacement in strap.Excellent value for money: cost for whole unit about the same as cost for replacing strap (or strap battery) in the previous unit.

I purchased this item having previously returned two other, so called, top brand makes. I have to say that this item is far superior. It is easy to use and appears to be accurate. I have tested it against a medical heart rate monitor and found it produces the same results (within 2% margin). With reference to the quality of appearance comments I can only say that I have no issues as this is a sports heart rate monitor NOT a dress watch. Sure, it is made of a plastic material but that makes it both light and durable. My other, returned ones, were no better in this respect but over double the price! I like the lug on the strap which locates and secures the strap when worn.Easy to use press switches for functions and menu. The watch received heart rate information within 30 seconds of operation and also worked straight away with the running machines own computer that I was using ( gave identical reading as watch ). It comes with a one piece sensor strap which I found comfortable and functional. Ideal for a straight forward, no nonsense bit of kit for the gym. I have been swimming with the watch on with no problems to report ( I did remove the sensor band). Other models, by this manufacturer have more facilities, but this one suites me fine.

I spent two months on and off looking at reviews for heart rate monitors before settling on this one. I have read many of the reviews for this watch and I can say, having never used a heart rate monitor in my life, this one fits the bill perfectly. I simply needed to know my heart rate during interval specific training. The signal picks up within about 10 seconds and I have never needed to use a gel to aid this detection. What's even better is that the Life Fitness machines at the gym also pick up the signal which is handy.I'm training for a bleep test and I have found that with a better understanding of heart rate during training I am able to work on specific weak areas. My only regret is that I did not buy this sooner. The watch is pleasing on the eye and simple in design and the heart rate strap is surprisingly less uncomfortable than I thought it would be.I think this is an excellent product, that I have found simple to use, that has aided my training significantly and all for a very reasonable price.Would I recommend it? Absolutely!

Very impressed with what you get for the money. It works find every time with no spurious figures reported as of yet. The strap's comfortable enough and, my colleague has told me, identical to his Garmin one. The watch is pretty easy to use once you've played with it a few times. Only complaint is the light is a fiddly to turn on when you're exercising and only stays on for a couple of seconds.I use the device cycling and have strapped the watch to the bike's handlebars using a bit of foam pipe lagging. The range is fine that it picks up the strap from that distance. I then key the average and max heart rates into Endomondo as the end of my ride and it's also good to see how much of my ride I've spent in the zone I have set up.Very pleased.Ideally I wanted a strap I could use with my smart phone but with low-energy (as opposed to regular) Bluetooth support only being added in Android 4.3 and phones having hardware support at this time, this device will keep me going until I upgrade my phone.

I can't believe this only cost me £25 ( or whatever it was!). It is my first heart rate monitor, and once you get to grips with it, it's really easy to use. It tells me everything I need to know- calories burned, grams of fat burned, how long I was above/below/within my target heart rate range, max HRM etc.You can set your target depending on what you want to achieve- I want fat loss, so using the guide they provide, I set my target range between 70-80% of my max HR. When you are above or below, a little arrow flashes to let you know, so you know when to slow down or speed up.The only negative I have about this watch is the instructions- the in depth booklet just made the set-up seem too complicated,it took me a few hours to work out. Howvever, they did enclose a "quick set-up" card, which breaks it down into much easier steps, so I just used that. No need for all the faff in between!

The product arrived quickly and is in good working order. Yes it took a tiny bit of time to figure out how exactly to set the time but, once I'd done that, the product works a treat! You do have to wet the chest pad bit a little in order for it to pick up your heartbeat, but it does say in the instructions to wear it for about 5 minutes before you exercise so it picks up your heart-rate and it does, every time. I use it to do some DVD fitness workouts as well and it calculates everything from Calories to Heart Rate to the amount of time spent exercising. With a stop-start function it means, if you get interrupted during exercise, you can easily ensure you only calculate the time you are actually jumping about for!

This is my first heart rate Monitor and I like it. The initial set up was a bit confusing but I figured it out after fiddling with the monitor for a bit. Once the buttons on the monitor stopped working but it seems to correct itself after I gave it a firm tap. I have had the monitor for about six months now and it provides the figures I want. I would say to wet the chest band with water as previous reviewers suggested so the monitor starts working as soon as you start your work out. Or else you have to break a sweat before it starts reading. I might go for a better brand in the future but for now this does the job.

Having read some of the reviews and now having the monitor I can feedback on some of the points made. The watch is fine for what it is designed for, i.e. sporting, possibly day to day activity. It is not a dress watch and I'm sure no one would buy it for that use. It is a bit fiddly to set up and not as intuitive as a lot of products today (iWhatevers etc). However it works really well and I've not had any issues with clashes with other bits of equipment etc. There is also a good manual available on line. I'm happy that the PM does what I want it to and at a good price.

Basic heart rate monitor with a variety of functions such as average heart rate during a training session etc.Grey in colour and made from robust plastic, the wrist watch part is comfortable to wear with a clear display which shows the time and date. When activated (by pressing the "start" function) the heart rate is displayed also.Comes with an elasticated band and plastic monitor which fits around the chest. This is, again, robust and well made.Excellent value. Does as much as many better known makes of monitor for a fraction of the price.
