My dad had this game on his Commodore Amiga, and it is without a doubt one of the greatest games of all time! Me and my brother absolutely loved this and we both played it to death! To those who have never played or even heard of this game before, you play the role of Lester Chaykin who has been zapped into a strange alien world by a lightning storm whilst doing an experiment at a laboratory. The world he has entered is a very dark world full of deadly creatures, traps, slavery and war. You eventually befriend an alien (who you meet early on as your cell mate as you are eventually captured), and together the two of you must try to escape the city of which both of you are being held. The reason why this game is such a favourite among many gamers is because of one thing...the sheer imagination! The amount of effort that was put into creating the alien world is fantastic. All of the locations and creatures are beautifully realised, and although the graphics look dated the superb animation still shines through today as it did back in 1991. Even the tiniest details, such as Lester opening a can of pop, still makes me smile. But it's not just the brilliant world and its inhabitants that make this game great. The game's atmosphere makes you feel like you are Lester himself. Every scene in the game is packed full of little details. One example is that in the first scene, as you are walking across a land full of rocks, you can hear the wind whistling in the background. Occasionally the screen will also shake and you'll hear a rumbling sound, as well as seeing small rocks falling in the background! :)Another thing to note is that because it is set in a dark alien world, you'd expect it to be scary right? Well guess what... Another World succeeds at that too! The beast that drops down in front of you still scares me today, and the caves scene is still downright frightening as they are very dark and you always have a feeling that there will be some kind of nasty monster lurking around the corner. One final thing I would like to point out is the wonderful music and SFX by Jean-Francois Fretas. The SFX is absolutely amazing in this game, right down to the firing of the laser gun! Music wise, there are only two tunes played throughout the game (the intro and the ending), but both of them are fantastic. They capture the feeling and essence of the game perfectly, and are the most memorable tunes ever produced for a video game. In fact, I am humming the tunes right now as I type this! This game puts most modern games to shame. If your knowledge of retro gaming is restricted to the likes of Sonic, Mario, Pac Man etc, try this out and compare to games like Sonic 1 (ie games released in 1991). You will see that this game is vastly different, and why it is loved so much.Despite me finishing the game about 100 times, I still bought this set as I still love this game to bits after all these years. I urge those who don't have this one in their collection to buy this immediately!

First off: you're in luck if you played Another World when it first came out and have been wanting to play it again on your modern computer. It is a very faithful remake that can run at high resolutions (1440x900 on my machine) and with remastered sound effects. It also comes with a Making Of... which I have not watched yet, but I am sure is very interesting.Onto the game itself:This is a sophisticated and atmospheric action adventure game with outstanding rotoscoped animations and beautiful background art. Its unique style prevents it from ageing too terribly, and some of the gameplay mechanics still seem innovative to me. For instance (I do not think this is a spoiler)near the start of the game you drop down into a zig zag ventilation shaft, where jets of cold gas spurt periodically downwards at certain points. This is fairly standard, but the shaft is dark and you can only see a small portion of the screen, so you're forced to inch along, waiting for the sound of the gas stream to alert you.The game has a steep learning curve, and many gamers will likely die multiple times within the first few screens. Some of the puzzles and traps are unforgivingly devious. Fortunately this remake has increased the number of check points, so you won't have to do much backtracking if you do die. The intriguing setting and gameplay spurred me on, and I think that will be the case with most patient gamers.

This game was a classic in 1991 when it was released on the Amiga 500. This anniversary edition has updated graphics, and audio. You need to see past the slightly dated graphics however, which many reviews on this page cannot. Anyone who judges a game on its graphics alone is a moron; there are many games which are visually impressive, but offer awful gameplay. Another World is the opposite. Remember they have upped this from 320*200 to 1920*1200.The gameplay is fantastic, as is the game overall. No instructions are needed unless you are a spastic, as the controls are straightforward and easy to get use to.Enjoy this fantastic classic, and see how far entertainment software has come along thanks to creations such as this.Unfortunately Delphine went bust in 2004 so are not mentioned, but it was great of them to support this project of Eric Chahi.Unfortunately the piracy protection is a little extreme -strange that no one has mentioned this- you only get 5 installs at which point that's it, you need a new copy!

I was just thinking about this game today, when I saw this new release!!It's a really old game (15 years already? wow, time goes fast) and I played it (and finished it) several times on my Amiga. If you are not familiar with it, know that you are a scientinst working in a lab trying to do some experiments on dimensional portals, and eventually a lightning strikes and bam! You find yourself in another alien dimension. It's mostly a puzzle game (similar to the old Prince of Persia of that time) and it will completely immerge you into the alien world. If this is the exact same game, and you are a teenager, don't buy it. You will most likely be disappointed by the primitive graphics and 2-D.But if you have an open mind and want to know more about one of those Epic games that was...give it a go. But treat it like a modern Adventure game.Enjoy!

I loved this game when it first came out and still loved it when I replayed it last week. However, if you are used to pointing and clicking, and then moving to the next save point, you may well find this game a real challenge because it requires thought and effort. Or as so many younger people say, "it's boring". You have to try repeated different ways to move to the next little tricky step and it's a wonderful achievement when you make it.There are few instructions, and it takes time to try different moves and see what happens. If it drives you crazy with frustration, that isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing! It's forcing you to use your brain.I'm so glad to have a copy of this beautifully clever game that is so simple in many ways but requires thought.

One of the video game classics that everyone should own. This game was truly impressive when first released as it improved on the graphics of Prince Of Persia (slightly) and had so many actions that your character could do. I know that by todays standards it may seem quite primitive but just look at other games in 1991 and you will see the difference. Playing this game now will remind you that games used to be hard (not crappy walkovers like metal gear solid). This game was not massive but had many moments that made me very frustrated but I always came back for "one more try - I swear".

This was one of the first games that really wow'ed me, yes today it may seem simplistic, but it truly was a master piece! One could say this will go down in legends of pc gaming with a good mix of 3d graphics, puzzles, gameplay, action, and a compelling storyline. At this price you won't be disapointed, but don't expect any Unreal 3 graphics....purely purchase this game if your 29 and older or just a game freak!

I play this game on my gp2x which plays megadrive emulator it is really cool game on 16-bit console. This is the pc version which is in hi-res graphics and still has the same great gameplay this game is one of the most original and different gaming experience compare to other games, the most incredible story with gaming moments you will never forget Anyone who likes this kind of game should buy this masterpiece.

I first played this game 15 years ago on the Amiga. This re-release is an opportunity to buy yourself a piece of classic gaming history. Not many games of the current generation have managed to create the atmosphere of Another world. Watch for the tiny details in the background that help create, despite the games relative simplicity, a rich immersive alien world.

Back in the 90's I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the vectorial graphics of this game, is a real classic in the video game history, not to mention it's plot, that puts you right into an incredible interplanetary adventure.
