Circus world is a game advertised at 3+. The tagline reads, "Only the best showmanship skills will sow the seeds of success". If that is the case, then "showmanship" appears to be mostly patience. You start in the area outside the Big Top. You can walk around (arrow keys), or right click and drag the mouse to look in different directions. You can go into the Big Top, but not actually see full shows while in there, the game automatically shows brief clips when it is showtime. There are a series of buttons at the bottom, enabling you to book your circus into cities (avoiding other circuses, and trying to get good weather), hire acts, assign acts to the show (and amend how hard they work),and book advertising. Outside the Big Top, you can click on areas to get some of the outside attractions (when you have the money), such as hook a duck, food stall, gift shop or ATM. The ATM is interesting, go up close, and you can see the logo for Visa and Mastercard. A bit of "in game" advertising there. Oh yes, and in the Cola and McDonalds litter which appears in the field. You can click on these to get rid of them, but it appears to have no impact on gameplay. And that's it. There are no mini-games attached to the stall. Its simply a case of wait to earn enough money, in order to get something to earn more. This might be good if it taught Maths to younger children, but the figures used means you would have to be at least Year 2 to start following it - and even then the arithmetic in adding up the earnings appears to be a little on the random side. In fact, I could see no educational benefit in the game at all, unless reading such things as "Jumping Jess" is educational. There aren't many words appear on the screen at all.The graphics are poor. Characters don't line up, with the "attractions" at which they are stationed, and closer inspection reveals that some, particularly Mr ATM man, have extraordinarily bloody hands. I suspected that they were copied and pasted in from a zombie game of some sort. Rather unsuitable for a 3+ game, I would have thought. But perhaps 3+ is only a guide, and the game is really aimed at older children? I gave it to my 9 year old and 13 year old. They both hated it. It was, they remarked, "boring, pointless and didn't do anything interesting".Some of the issues with this game would be relatively easy to fix. The characters could be fixed up to remove the bloody hands and make them more realistic. Movement into the Big Top and back out would also help. Mini games could be linked to the attractions bought, which could focus on reading or Maths skills. As it is, I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend this at all. It comes across as a game put together as an afterthought because a company boss thought a "circus theme" would sell.

Without doubt the most boring, flat, over complicated, poorly produced PC CD game we've used as a family. I don't have anything good to say apart from the installation onto Windows 7 was hassle free and there are no obvious bugs/breaks.After a week of the family playing Circus World here's our impression:-* User guide is a PDF document which is impossible to access while playing the game.* No HINT/CHEAT or walkthrough options.* Poor quality, grainy, graphics throughout.* Combination of mouse and arrow key to navigate around the game is incredibly difficult. One unexpected movement with the mouse and you're flung from one side of the circus to the next and then have to navigate your way back.Playing the game:- you hire acts from a flat menu, you arrange advertising, buy attractions (roundabout, gift shop, snack bar, hook a duck, coconut shy, shooting gallery, bag and can, test of strength, balloon seller and ATM machine - that's it. All you do then is hang around for day after day clicking a "pay maintenance" button on the attractions to keep them working and hiring/firing your acts. The characters outside the tent don't move at all while the Circus audience have two limited movements. The circus acts that you can watch are pathetically animated, really poor. Moving your circus to another location is no more than watching a tiny tent move across a flat map. There's a whole aspect of financial management that you have to master to keep your Circus in business and it's so complicated no younger child is going to master it or be interested in it. Who wants to play a game that's little more than financial management?.I can honestly say Cirque du Soleil this ain't!!! After a day of the never changing, endless, cheerful Circus music I was ready to throw the disc in the bin.I really wouldn't recommend Circus World to anyone and I buy a lot of PC CD games.

There's a great concept in there somewhere which, ten years ago, would have been called SimCircus. Build and expand a circus from an empty tent to a majestic spectacle. However, the developers have made it very hard work to create the simplest of circus shows.Installation was rather hit and miss, where it wouldn't even read the disc on my first PC. The older laptop took a few attempts too, with the autorun never working.Once up and running the complete absence of tool tips or in-game help mean it's time to dig out the manual to understand icons, which aren't well placed or particularly symbolic of the action they provide. From icons upwards, all the actions will require some trial and error or the reference guide.Nothing is intuitive. And this is a shame because there is a level of detail and content that would appeal to Sim game fans. Whether many people will persevere with the awful interface or the steep learning curve is doubtful though.

When SimCity came out many years ago, it had many faults but it was, in its own way, novel, absorbing and what I would call a good timewaster.'Circus World' on the other hand has very little to commend it - the idea of a simulation of this type was an interesting prospect, but that is about as far as it went. It did not waste time (if only because I could find no good reason to play it), it was not absorbing and most certainly was not a novel concept.Nowadays with the ability to utilise much improved screen resolutions and colours, you would expect that at the very least the graphics in this simulation game would be better to look at. Frankly, as a 'nearly newby' in the eighties,I was coding and compiling graphics and sprites (albeit unrendered) which in my somewhat biased opinion would have knocked spots off this offering. The overall effect was somewhat childish and the game is not one which I will be spending any future time on.

I can't believe how bad this game is.1. It took four attempts to install it2. The graphics are so rubbish. They would have been really great in the 80s though when computers were just being born3. Game play is just awful. You can't easily walk around, there are tiny fences that show you where side shows could be. You have to buy the side shows before they appear. But you just can't even walk through or over the tiny fences, you have to walk around them4. Walking around takes a lot of effort and skill, you have to use the keyboard and mouse. When you look around the camera spins so much and so fast it can make you ill5. Hiring people and putting on shows is extremely complicated, you would think to hire someone you would select them then hit the tick button. Oh no, you have to click on the clown button then the tick.I would encourage people to steer clear of this game, it really is NOT worth the money.

This is similar to a few other "tycoon" games I've played. "TV Tycoon" is the first that springs to mind. This game is fun and at the same time really simple, which could make it addictive. You have to build a circus by hiring and firing staff and attractions, the more money you make the better quality attractions you can hire. The helpful tutorial talks you through the ways to handle the game, leaving very few things unmentioned. This game could almost play itself, and that's a problem I have with it; am I really playing the game or am I doing what I'm told?I think this game is ultimately a nice distraction; to fiddle round with to kill time, so if you can get hold of it at an inexpensive price, and if you've played and liked tycoon games before, I think you'd enjoy this.

This is such a missed opportunity. Being released at the same time as the hit movie Madagascar 3 on DVD should have given this circus management game a huge boost. As the very popular movie centres around the trials and tribulations of running a travelling circus, there's loads of scope here for a Sim Circus-style game with an appeal to young and old. What you do get here is the ghost of those possibilities, realised in the kind of leaden gameplay that kills the idea stone dead. Play is laborious, and falls very far short of the spectacle that most modern games would expect.A real disappointment, and the reviews elsewhere on this page are absolutely right. This game could have been a lion tamer, but has ended up as an embarrassing clown the end of his career...

My son (16) and I used to really enjoy the Sim games - you know, Sim Golf, Sim Shopping Mall and of course, Sim City, so I thought we'd enjoy some retro game playing. No, no no!Tried to install it on my Windows 7 laptop and it just wouldn't load. Eventually resorted to my 6 yeat old desktop, running Windows Vista.Loaded first time here but we almost wished it hadn't!Very, very poor graphics. Complicated game play. Average sound.Maybe, just maybe, there may be a good game inside but the presentation is very dated.Might suit a pre school kid.

Awful! Please don't buy this game! After trying several times to install on my new new laptop without success, I had to dig out my really old laptop just to get it set up. Not sure why it wouldn't play on a new model, but when I finally got it set up it wasn't worth the hassle. The game is so dated. Awful graphics, boring gameplay, awkward movements and a camera that spins so much it gives you a seasick feeling.I have uninstalled it, and this game will never see the light of day again. I just didn't like anything about it.

Roll up roll up! Become an entrepreneur and develop your own traveling circus into the greatest show on earth, more like Roll up Roll up and play a game that feels like it should be on a PC that has windows 98.There is very little to say that is positive about the game, right from the poor loading you know your have a poor developed game.Game play is rubbish, graphics are from 1998 had hoped it was going to a bit like the early PC games about building a hospital etc, but it's not, a pointless development.

16.4.2013

This is basically a game to help you build your own circus. You start from scratch & add different components such as ring master, food stall etc & thereby allocating funds for each task. Not exiting really!I don't like this game because:1. it is badly laid out2. the buttons are not clear as to what is what3. it is very badly designedA no from me!

13.1.2013

This game would be bad if it was free on Facebook. If it was a retro gaming title it would be almost acceptable but it is very retro. We had hassles to install it on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop and the graphics are seriously poor. The interface is clunky and makes the game less fun than a no fun thing....Seriously its not worth the bother.

17.1.2013

This game sounded like fun and I was expecting something along the lines of Zoo Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon. It is nothing like these. It's difficult to install, and then when you do finally get it installed it's unclear what you are meant to do. It's really boring and dull and confusing with poor graphics. Not a fun game at all! Rubbish!

17.4.2013

Not very impressed with this game at all. Took four attempts to get it to install and load correctly on my brand new laptop. The graphics are pretty basic and its just not that much fun to play. Its clunky and difficult.Avoid.

14.1.2013

Very poor budget priced game which loads slowly and has very little content to keep the interest up. The graphics are poor and the gameplay tediously slow and overcomplicated. There is little to recommend with this game.
