Pictures do not do this pen justice. They give you an idea of how beautiful it is, but they don't fully illustrate the beauty of this pen. First, the color is very deep and rich. The blue has a depth to is that is like car paint (without being thick.)Mostly the Waterman Hemisphere Rollerball Pen Fine Point with Black Ink Cartridge (2042969) feels very high quality and Waterman is a brand name that is respected and known by a great many people as being a quality pen maker. On the other hand, there are perhaps better known brands in this price range and I don't know if the quality matches up to the price. I have included some photos that show the writing quality of the pen - which is really dependent on the refill more than the pen itself. When the pen arrives, the refill is not installed and it is up to you to pull it out from the underside of the box and screw it into place An easy thing to do! Once installed, your pen is ready to go.I LOVE the feel of the rollerball pen. But I have to wonder if the Waterman rollerball is better than other, less-expensive, brands of rollerball pens. I would really like to try the fountain pen to be honest. I prefer the fountain pen to ball-point and roller-ball pens anyway. Also, I assume that I can order blue refills in place of the black refill. I believe that I would prefer blue ink for a pen like this...So, who needs an $80 pen these days? Perhaps a lawyer? Maybe a sales person or account executive - getting that all important signature signed and m aking the person who is signing feel important? A real estate agent or RealtorTM and all that... Anyone who has a job where important documents are being signed - a good brand name, quality pen signals that you are a success to the person who you are dealing with. I've heard people say, "You have to be crazy to spend that much money on a pen!" but that same person comes back from a house closing and says, "I've got a good lawyer handling my closing, he had one of those Waterman fancy schmancy pens that must mean he is doing well!"Nothing sells success like success! Or something like that...Ok, so now you are convinced - you want to look like a successful business person - why should you choose this pen? That's a good question. First and foremost, it is a recognized brand that people have heard of and they will know you have an expensive pen. Second, it is a good pen. That's where I hesitated to give this five stars though. I feel like an $80+ pen should be a GREAT PEN. This simply isn't great. It is good, perhaps very good - but it falls short in a couple of areas.First, the pen clip feels loose and cheap. In fact, the whole pen feels less substantial than I would expect an $80 pen to feel. I would expect it to feel thicker and more substantial. It let me down a little there.Second, the pen writes very fluidly and feels VERY GOOD, but the end result is a little splotchy and not as smooth and clean as I would expect for an $80 pen. Again, very good but not great. I included some examples. One plus is that the ink dries very quickly. VERY quickly, which means no smearing, even with a lefty like my son. That did impress me and reminded me of why this is a good pen.In the end, I tried to weigh it out overall and decided on four stars. I felt like that I should have gotten a little better quality for the price, but I could also see the improvement in quality compared to less expensive pens I have owned in the past. In fact, the only pen that I have owned that was nicer was a much more expensive Mont Blanc pen - but it was easily twice the price of this pen.In the end, I WOULD recommend this pen. But I would look for a good price if you can find it. It is only worth $80 if you consider the Waterman brand name to be very important to you, otherwise I feel you are paying too much for the name and not enough for the quality you should be getting from a pen at this price point.I hope you find this to be a helpful review. If there is anything more you would like to know, please ask. I try to check my reviews for comments and respond to them right away. If you ask something and I don't get back quickly, please check my profile page and email me and I will try to respond as soon as I see it. I think it is important for fellow shoppers on Amazon to look out for one another by letting each other know if a product is good, or if it is a stinker. I take reviewing very seriously and try to be helpful. Thank you!

I was thrilled to be able to obtain this pen. I have always appreciated fine workmanship in small items you can hold in your hand, like pens, watches, and even tie bars.I had to take several pictures of the case this pen comes in because it by itself is rather exceptional. If that interests you, have a look at my pictures and notice the fit and finish of the case itself - and it's rather durable - not the sort of thing you're going to open two or three times and find it no longer closes flush or in-line.As to the pen: the fit, feel, and appearance is exceptional. It might sound funny, but the feel of removing and replacing the cap of this pen is just pleasant. The click is just right, not too tight, not too loose. I wonder how much engineering went into that!I'm not going to list pros and cons here, because there's really not much to complain about, and I mean that sincerely. I'm not going to upload any photos of my handwriting because, well, it's just not very good. But I will say that the flow of the ink is pleasing and good, but it is not much better than a really good gel rollerball.Since this is a review, I am going to mention my only gripe: the actual weight of the pen. I recognize this is ambiguous, and that nearly everybody would have a different opinion of what the right weight of a pen should be in your hand. I like to “feel” the weight of a metal pen. This just isn’t very heavy, and for the cost, I’d like it to be a bit more of a daunting presence pressed against my fingers!Highly recommended.

This truly is the pinnacle of rollerball pens.I own hundreds of pens of all different variations, not intentionally or as a collection, but more so as an accumulation. I have my least favorites and my favorites, this pen certainly ranks with the latter. The packaging on this is like an expensive diamond ring or a designer watch, it alone should have the non-pen savvy informed that this pen is of great value and prestigious quality. I was actually slightly confused when I opened it, because the ink was not already in the barrel. As uncultured as I am, I of course did not realize that the ink would be stored in a separate compartment within the case.Writing with this is a thing of beauty. The included ink is of exceptional quality and was certainly chosen to compliment the craftsmanship of the pen itself. My hands are rather large and my actual handwriting style is rather clunky as a result, but this pen makes me feel ok about it by compensation.Overall, it's a solid writing utensil and will surely "wow" anyone who knows a thing about the hierarchy of the pen industry.

I have to start this review by saying that I have been a Waterman fan since my early twenties. During my 35 year tenure with the police department I carried the same Waterman ballpoint. I still have it on my desk at home and the feel of the barrel, the line of ink it produces and the consistent elegance of the ink are my favorite. This pen is a rollerball, which means the ink is a little bit more likely to smudge if you are not careful. However, with a bit of care - the writing product is just as good as I expect from a Waterman product. The cap of this pen pops off and attaches to the back of the pen - it holds on well... just remember to put it back when you are done. The pen I received is a dark blue with silver highlights. The clip and top are the standard Waterman style. The weight is comfortable, not too heavy - but more substantial than a generic rollerball. If you like a smaller diameter pen with decent weight, good ink, and consistent flow - then I definitely recommend you give this pen a try!!All the best,Jay

The quality of this pen is excellent. Waterman makes some great products. The rollerball uses a liquid ink instead of the oil-based ink that ballpoint pens use. When I write with it I love the way the ink hits the paper. My signature looks much better when using this pen than it would if I used a ballpoint. Some spots where I move the pen fast are thin and other spots where I move the pen slowly are thicker.Mine is a fine point pen and it is perfect for me. Everyone who has tried the pen comments on how smooth it feels on the paper. (it really does glide across the paper nicely) My son tried it and was immediately impressed. The accents of the pen are plated in palladium. The blue is beautiful and the weight is just right. It is not an inexpensive pen but it is a very high-quality pen. Not only does the pen look and feel great, but the way it lays ink on paper is also excellent. I will definitely stick with Waterman brand refills when I need one. I wouldn't want to change the way it performs.

The blue color of this pen needs to be seen to truly be appreciated. In normal ambient light there is an appearance of a subtle navy, but when struck with a highlight a streak of electrifying deep rich blue is ignited. It's mesmerizing.Pairing this Waterman Hemisphere Rollerball Pen Fine Point with a nice dress shirt also works well and helps complete the gentleman's outfit. The precise craftsmanship looks crisp when contrasted against white or light blues. A beautiful accessory indeed. And since this pen has a secure top, gravity is not pulling the ink toward the tip, instead it sits upright in the pocket without any risk of leakage. And functionally, the Waterman Hemisphere performs like the instrument of a professional. The ink flows generously without running or smearing, and the results look graceful. Using this pen to sign documents gives me the confidence of an executive.Overall, we are very impressed with this offering, especially for this price point. Highly recommended.

This is a superior pen, if given my choice on a type of pen it would ALWAYS be a rollerball...and this Waterman pen is absolutely THE best rollerball I have ever held and used. They make a beautifully styled and built pen to begin with and whatever it is that they do to their ink, it is the best too! This pen looks like it has a expensive car's paint job plus the ink quality...oh I am SO SOLD!! What a great gift for yourself of someone special, maybe that young grad in your life? Here is a link to the refill:https://www.amazon.com/Waterman-Rollerball-Refill-point-540961/dp/B00007JQR1/ref=pd_rhf_dp_s_cr_simh_0_2/141-6094841-4270466?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00007JQR1&pd_rd_r=d4639819-e83f-4be3-a529-d09d584d62fb&pd_rd_w=zRlgG&pd_rd_wg=IMr9X&pf_rd_p=31caee8f-ce20-49ad-9f29-d71df297ad52&pf_rd_r=YRJB7RZTK929993EM0Y2&psc=1&refRID=YRJB7RZTK929993EM0Y2

So here’s the way I roll, and it works for me: I try to buy the best quality gear that makes sense on a cost to usage basis. Bear with me. I buy Zippos not Bics. Serengetis not throw away shades. And a decent pen not Paper Mates.Simple really, I lose stuff if I don’t have any money invested. I won’t carelessly sit on my $200 Ray Ban Caravans. Had them for 30 years because I spent the cash and don’t want to lose them. I know, nuts but it works. This is a great pen, very smooth writer. Extremely attractive, matte stainless. Appears to be quite well made. I have a Fisher refill in mine, had to jury rig it in. Just prefer the flow. And I have just enough invested to not carelessly misplace it.Never said I wasn’t crazy. lol Made in France ??. Hey, you know it never killed anyone.I recommend. Thanks for reading

I received this pen to use and review.Likes: The first impression is excellent. The presentation box is terrific and very nice. Make sure to pull out the ink cartridge form the bottom as it isn't obvious at first that you have such a thing. Love the color. I received blue , which has silver highlights. The feel of the pen is very good. Not too heavy, or too light. The rising motion with the standard cartridge is red and easy and quite nice. It is a pleasure to write with this pen.Dislikes?: For me, i wish the pen was a little thicker because I have larger hands but thats is a personal preference. Otherwise I have no complaints.Overall: For the price point, this is a nice pen. This would make a nice gift,or a good pen to watch so others don't walk away with it when you use it for business.

The rollerball version is so smooth. It produces a full, rich and un-broken line.It lays down the ink in a medium to heavy amount that is almost like a fountain pen. I prefer it for hand written cards and signatures. I don't prefer it for filling out forms and smaller text boxes. The pen is very attractive and ergonomic. For such an expensive pen the black plastic barrel grip does seem like it could have been made from something else. However for maintaining less weight it works and feels just fine. I only noticed it when unscrewing the pen to insert the ink cartridge. This pen makes my handwriting and signatures look really good and for that it is one of my favorite pens. 4 stars for great performance. It would have been 5 if it was in a slightly lower price bracket.

Pens come in a variety of weights and diameters. At this price range, I advise that you buy somewhere that lets you try the pen out before buying to see if it is comfortable for you. This pen is thinner than other luxury pens that I have tried, perhaps making it better for people with smaller fingers. It has a nice balance and weight to it; it has a solid feel without being too heavy. The pen is beautiful and build quality is excellent, as I expect at this price. The ink flows flawlessly, as I expect from Waterman. Refills are not cheap, but not so expensive that I would be tempted to use inferior generics. This is a great pen to have at my desk, either at home or at work. At this price,I'm not going to carry it around with me and risk losing it.

Made in France this rollerball pen arrives in a well-made classy presentation box with a black fine point refill and a brochure with instructions for loading the refill along with general and warranty information tucked into the box. The pocket clip is sturdy and tightly connected and the blue lacquer exterior with chrome accents has a perfect finish. The pen has a weight that is balanced—just heavy enough to indicate quality without being uncomfortable to use while writing. Waterman pens can cost many hundreds of dollars (a relative gave one to me as a graduation gift) or more. So, this Hemisphere rollerball while impressive and with no sacrifice in quality is, for the brand, a more accessible selection.Excellent.

Okay I should start this off by saying I am in no way a pen snob. I probably wouldn’t go seeking a pen in this price point but since I was offered it through vine I figured why not try. Oddly enough I feel like it’s best selling point isn’t the pen itself, which is nice enough, but instead the ink and ballpoint itself. This pen writes incredibly smoothly. No little jumps. No clumpy ink.The pen itself is nice. I could definitely see it in a doctor’s or lawyer’s office. It’s presented in a nice giftable box.Would I buy a pen like this? I don’t think. But only because I am happy with cheaper pens. That said, I’ll definitely keep this one and refill it with their branded refills.

I've had a few quality pens over the years and some were made by Waterman and I really liked them, so far, this pen is no exception.I got the blue rollerball, it has a little weight to it, just enough to let you know it's in your hand. It doesn't feel cheap or flimsy and it writes, oh so smooth. The cap is tight and I'm not worried about it popping off and losing it.I don't use this as an everyday pen but at various meetings, it's nice to have and I usually have at least one person comment on it and ask what brand it is.They make excellent gifts for those who like a good pen. It's expensive enough to make a statement but it won't break the bank.

It doesn't take long to figure out a good writing pen and a mediocre pen. This one is definitely good. Comes in a nice gift box where underneath you will find the refillable pen to insert into the chamber once you unscrew it. Then, once it is in, a soft turn and you are ready to go. Writing on paper was a rather nice experience. The ink flows out evenly and smooth. No heavy deposits at the beginning of end of a line, while the ink did not have any breaks either. It glided along the surface clean and didnt feel forced at all. This is a really nice pen as expected from Waterman.
