NOTE: The extra photos on the left in this listing incorrectly show the SwissChamp model, not the ranger. The ranger does not come with the "camping" logo, nor does it come with the "plus" tools (pen, pin & mini corkscrew driver). Some people have complained because they thought they were paying for a ranger with the plus tools, as shown in the extra photos. The Ranger competes with the Explorer Plus for the mid-size SAK slot, both of which are larger than the Huntsman (as a reference). The Ranger may seem to lack Phillips driver capabilities, but you actually have three choices for Phillips: the tip of the file, the tip of the can opener and the "dolphin" tip screw driver on the back tools. One thing that does bother me about most of the SAK models that have the scissors tool, is that they usually don't include a nail file. So you can trim your nails, but you can't file them. However, the Ranger is one of the few SAK's that has both the scissors AND the file. Whether that's important to you is your decision. What do I use my Ranger for most? I usually find that I like to keep the Ranger with my plastic modelling car kits - it has all the tools I need for that: it can file plastic parts smooth, chisel and shape plastic and wooden parts, scrape chrome and paint off parts that get glued together, trim the parts from the frames with the knives and scissors, and many other things. I use it for lots of other things, and for some reason the Ranger has become my quick and easy go-to tool for quick fixes around the house. My Top Favorite SAK Models:SwissChamp - complete portable tool boxRanger - all the back-side tools of the SwissChamp, less front tools for a more compact SAK.Explorer Plus - closest model to the unfortunately discontinued Yeoman.(Yeoman - discontinued, highly collectible.)Deluxe Tinker - a Super Tinker with pliers.Super Tinker - great every-day-carry pocket model.Compact - all the basic tools you need for every day in suburbia land.Unless you really need the additional pliers, magnifying glass, dedicated Phillips and fish scaler of the SwissChamp, the Ranger may be your next best choice. I added a Plus scale to my Ranger, and added the pen, pin and mini corkscrew driver.Cheers!

I bought my first Victorinox utility knife about 40 years ago and for many of those years it was in almost daily use and usually on or about my person (it is now illegal), sometimes a knife blade, sometimes the saw or file and and quite often a screwdriver blade for changing a fuse, fixing a mains plug to some equipment, but the most often used and not by me was the scissors, which is very sharp. That was the reason it was used by the female members of the family for their needlework or paper crafts, despite the absence of finger grips and the knife body must have been an inconvenience. The scissors was used because it was much sharper than any they had and it was used so often that eventually the spring snapped, rendering it almost useless. Latter, I managed to snap the tip of the smaller knife blade when trying to open a large box that had hidden large metal staples under sealing tape; when slitting the tape, one of the staples removed a few millimetres of the blade tip.Although still largely usable, I had intended for some time to replace or update the knife but never quite managed to commit. I have since. I was quite surprised at how varied the range now is; a wider variety and sometimes a greater number of blades, different body colours and a lanyard ring is now commonplace. When the original was purchased, there were no more than 4 or 5 choices and only in a single colour.I did not seem able to directly duplicate the tools in the original and the file/saw is omitted. I could have chosen an alternative with that blade, but at the inconvenience and expense of others that I knew I was unlikely ever to need. The model chosen was about the best compromise.Better value than ever they were, I am sure that I paid about the same price or slightly more all those years ago when buying the first. Would I buy another, should I need to - you bet I would!Recommended!

I have a weakness for Swiss Army Knives. I lost my RangerGrip 178 130mm during a move and wanted to replace it (even though I still have a perfectly good 111mm One Hand Trekker). But I accidentally searched for "Victorinox Ranger" instead and happened across what may well be the most versatile tool in the Victorinox arsenal - the Ranger 91mm (ASIN B000AR79UW) with both metal and wood saws!I ordered one, and received a 130mm RangerGrip 78 instead (ASIN B00KNO2916)! The sticker on the box had been overlaid! So I returned it to Amazon, requesting a replacement, which was cheerfully honored. You guessed it - another RangerGrip 78! I should have been satisfied because it's almost identical to the knife I lost and more expensive than the Ranger to boot. But it wasn't what I wanted...When I returned it a second time I wasn't offered a replacement, only a refund. Amazon doesn't provide an easy way to offer feedback. Not happy. So I bided my time and waited for Prime day. Naturally neither of the knives I'd been waiting for went on sale.So I opted to buy one used from Refurb 360 and they accomplished what Amazon could not: delivered the requested product! With 7 slots on one side and 5 on the other offering 21 total tools, you won't find a higher tool density in the 91mm form factor this side of the SwissChamp. Add a mini screwdriver to the corkscrew and upgrade to the deluxe Plus scales so you can store tweezers, ballpoint pen and FireFly ferrocerium toothpick and MacGiver's your uncle!I think it strikes a fine balance between the FieldMaster and SwissChamp models.

I bought this as I wanted a knife I could carry legally (folding, non locking, and under 3 inches). When at home/in the woods I use a Mora Companion, which has a strong, fixed blade and is very sharp and I wasn't expecting the Ranger to be anywhere near as good. However, I was pleasantly surprised. From the picture I thought the blade looked small, weak and not very sharp but it was actually extremely sharp straight out of the box and I was easily able to shave hair/carve wood with it. Although it is a folding, non-locking blade, it isn't flimsy like some cheaper penknifes I have had before and the strong spring holds it open well. All the tools are quite stiff which I see as a good thing. You don't want a tool moving about while you are using it.If you are considering this knife as a legal alternative to a fixed blade knife and want something strong and sharp then I would highly recommend it. I will happily take this on camping trips now, instead of risking taking my Mora and getting in trouble for it. (Obviously if I was going somewhere remote I would take both!)As for the other tools... they pretty much all work great. The scissors are a bit small, same with the saws and the chisel so obviously this effects functionality, but what do you expect for something you carry in your pocket? They are still usable anyway. I carry it in my pocket and barely notice the weight of it.It also has a lifetime guarantee!

I ordered this knife from Amazon for my adult daughter, who is planning on going into the military. It has all of those things someone in a bivouac camp--or the barracks--needs: scissors, blades, corkscrew, nail file, can opener, bottle opener, wood saw, screwdrivers, awl, and a little hook that probably has a thousand uses. I think this knife has just about the right combination of tools vs. bulk. It's not the kind of knife that gets someone in trouble for just having it--unless you're going through airport security. When she opened the box and examined it, she said, "Now THAT'S a Swiss Army knife!" The stainless steel blades and implements require little maintenance, and the little ring allows the knife to attach to a lanyard or chain. You want to do that, believe me, because my favorite Swiss Army knife fell out of my pocket while I was bouncing in a Humvee across the Mojave Desert! So, go ahead and use a "dope rope: and don't feel bad about it! You want to hang onto a Swiss Army knife!

This is the best Vitorinox for my need. I have it for a couple of years and I use it everyday, so useful, both inside the house and outside. I wear it on my belt using a Victorinox pouch which I also highly recommend. With a pouch, you remember you got it when you need it, as it doesn’t weight down your pocket. It is missing the plier but adding the plier would make it a lot bulkier and heavier. This ranger optimises the space as there are tools filling up all the back side. I got several other Victorinox, smaller and larger but for me this is the best toolset versus size. It saves so much time as I don’t have to rush to my toolbox so often especially when up a ladder or when holding something,i can just grab it with my other hand and get the job done immediately. There are cheaper immitation but the tools are useless on them, get a Victorinox you won’t regret it.

It's 114g in weight. It feels heavy in my trouser pocket so I rather carry it in my backpack. I mean i carry my Nokia phone only 76g and My watch is only 59g. Do I need extra 114g? Swiss Army knife concept is invented in 1897 and no much evolved since then is still heavy and hurts your nails when try to open it, not hygienic to use on food items, dirt can get inside blades, rusting occurs between blades. Stainless steel it's very durable and all but I think It's time someone produced a Swiss army knife made of titanium very light material and very strong. On this particular swiss army knife I tried the scissors were very comfortable easy to cut, knifes are very sharp, but on the small tools I hurt my nails trying to open them. If you don't need all of these tools to carry with you where every 100gr. counts get a lighter version which is cheaper and less weight

Arrived very quickly and looks fantastic, comes with 2 very sharp blades out of the box.I wanted the scissors, saw and metal file, this has them plus the usual. This is a 5 layer knife, with 5 layers on the back too. Many knives miss some out. So you get a chisel and mini flat head. Now, it does have the word 'camping' down one side, but Hey, it's a tool, it's for using not looking at.Only had it about a month but I love it.Haven't tested everything yet but the saw works fine, the scissors are very good (as usual) and the two blades are perfect. It is a little heavy for a pocket, but no more so than a similar Leatherman.I will add that when I got it it was £25 or so.At that price it was a bargin.Everyone should have a good Victorinox Swiss Army Knife.A solid 5 stars.

Due to my technical abilities that I have received from birth I like to have tools available to me so that I can repair things. This pocket knife is about the third one that I have bought. Each one of the previous knives has lasted at least 20 years and I am expecting this one to out live me as I will soon be eighty. It is such a joy to see the pleasure on other peoples faces as I make their possession become useful again. My knife gives me access to many of the plastic items which are hooked together with little plastic hooks and which given a little pressure from the right angle will release and come open without much of a problem. My knives have stood me in good stead through the years and have made the eyes of many people smile again which gives me a lot of pleasure as well!

This is my EDC pocket knife and has been since buying it to replacea lost Huntsman. Glad I chose to get the Ranger tho.I have yet to come across any small task this knife is unable to handle. It is well built bar the cheap scales which I replaced with an older set I had.The newer scales used by Victorinox IMO are cheap, scratch easily, and are flimsy.Still a 5 star knife as the scales are a personal pref and easily changed.**Update**I use my first Ranger so much that I bought a second one.The scales are still sub-par compared to the older ones but I am just going to keepthis new Ranger in my bug out bag.Seriously folks if you are looking for a Victorinox Swiss Army knife that handles a widerangeof tasks and is not too big then the Ranger is it.

Another quality knife from Victorinox. The best Swiss Army Knives out there by far. I love this model, it's the perfect balance between useful tools and still keeping the size down. A few key tools for me are the saw (the saws on these knives really work and they work well), the awl that also makes a great reaming tool (sharp edge), and the scissors that have proven to be very valuable (sometimes a knife just doesn't cut it), 2 scredriver sizes, and a can opener that really works and saved a scout outing for us (no can opener in the patrol box ???). Also nice to have the 2 sizes of knife blades. The steel quality is great and the knives hold their sharp edge well. Love it!

First bought one for my dad when I was in Aden in 1961. When he died a few years later I inherited it. Lost it, Bought another. Got it confiscated by airport security in Venice. My own fault. Been carrying one around for so long I forgot it was in my pocket. Bought another, which I seem to have mislaid and so I'm looking to buy yet another. The closest to the original is the Ranger, which I found very good, but the Phillips screwdriver has been left off, something which was very useful. Other models with this screwdriver are either missing something else or are too big. Have to compromise I suppose.Top buy. Best "penknife" available, in my opinion.

Very nice knife. UK legal carry as it's a folding, under 3" blade. As with all victorinox Swiss army knives the quality of the craftsmanship is a good few steps above your average cheaply made pocket knife. It's razor sharp out of the box and will stay this way with a regular quick strop on some leather. Look after it and this knife tool will provide good service for decades and will likely out last you! I still have my first SAK that is over 30 years old and still beats any cheapo pocket knife. I actually like the "camping" lettering as well. If only this model had the in-line Phillips head driver then it would be the perfect swiss knife for me.

Had this knife myself since the 1990. Knives need a sharpening again, but otherwise still perfect. Purchased for my kids now as well and they're using it on their canoe trips in Northern Ontario.I find this is the perfect compromise between functionality and size.Any smaller/cheaper and you lose a lot of useful functions. Any more and it's too big.We added the mini screwdriver into the corkscrew (bought that separately from MEC who sell the small replacement parts for a decent price).Yeah, it would be nice if it was a bit cheaper, but given I paid ~$50 CAD for mine almost 30 years ago, it's a fair price for swiss quality.

Well I bought this to take on my camping trips. It is quite fiddly to get out the different gadgets and I ended up breaking a few nails in the process. It has lots of useful gizmos and gadgets on it. I have used the knife - unfortunately on my finger - about an inch long cut, whoops! I suppose I have proved that it is sharp! It went through my finger like butter ?. I have also used the bottle opener (of course the most useful of all the gadgets) and the screw driver. I am always in need of a toothpick so glad that’s on there too. It is a very useful addition to my camping kit, I’m pleased with it and would recommend.
