I have fond memories of playing the original Genus Edition of this game with my family over Christmas and decided that this year we would get an updated version - mainly because I have no idea where the original version is anymore, I haven't seen it for about 15 years but it must be in the house somewhere...Delivery was within 23 hours of making the purchase so that made me happy and I could not wait to get playing it. Unfortunately my 26 year old son and husband had other ideas so I had to suffer through a couple of other games first but it was well worth the wait.A good range of questions in categories that are slightly different to the original. The board has been updated too with the main category hubs now having tiny illustrations instead of a solid colour that represent the theme of that category. Really they are all general knowledge but some are WAY harder then others and some severe guessing went on. Game play lasted about an hour with the 3 of us - but that could have been due to the other half's lucky rolling to keep landing on the hubs. The pie pieces have been redesigned and no longer form a flat piece, instead a completed wheel now has a pleasant rounded look to it and no more shaking and tapping to get a stuck piece out when you want to play as your favourite colour again. There is a better distinction between the category colours on the revamped board too which meant we argued less about whether it was orange or brown that we were on (always a problem on the original under orangey hued domestic lightbulbs). The inclusion of a timer is a good idea but not one that we utilised during the game. The timer lasts for around 30 seconds and we will no doubt use it for other times games rather than this one.If you like quiz games then you really can't go wrong with this one for the slightly older family or a gathering of friends.

I purchased this for my four year old Red Setter, Alberic, having been advised by his "dog trainer" that he showed signs of unusually high intelligence for a dog. Based on our experience with this particular game I have to conclude that his so called "intelligence" has been greatly exaggerated and I've unfortunately entered into a protracted and ongoing legal battle with the "dog training school" in question. In a purely human setting, I must say that the game is excellent and has provided my Mother, Grandmother and myself with many evenings of fun, unsullied by the filth that seems to be the only substance that the television seems to be capable of providing in this day and age. With Alberic however, the game never really got off the ground. Despite more than ten minutes of patient and careful explanation, he simply didn't seem to understand even the most basic rules, and after several hours of perseverance I must admit to failure. Alberic has now eaten four sets of dice (eight die in total), which promises a miserable and smelly day of board-game ancillary recovery tomorrow. Good, but not great.

Bought this for my husband's birthday. He is a fan of the old Genus edition but has had to put up with the Millennium edition which he was bought some years ago which was incredibly frustrating as the topics were wrong and the questions odd to say the least. Have been looking for something like Genus for some time and hit upon this which looked much like it and broadly is. The topics are back to normal and we have had several pleasant evenings playing this game. The questions are at a good level, some difficult some quite easy (of course it depends if you know the answers or not!) but all potentially answerable. Extremely pleased with this buy as is my husband!

Lots of people have complained that the questions were too American but I thought the questions were great, especially when compared to the pre-historic version we had before. I now stand a good chance in a game as most of the people the sports and entertainment questions are about are actually still alive. Now I can thrash my dad instead of the other way around. Not enough questions is a fair criticism, we went through them in about 4 games. The board is literally an updated version of the Genus edition, no fancy additions if you liked the old format. The cheeses have easy handle tabs now too so you can actually get them in and out of the container.

Excellent game! Hours of fun. Haven't used the timer yet (didn't have AAA batteries to hand). The instructions didn't explain what happens if you land in the middle (do you get to choose a colour or does the other team/player choose a colour for you?). The questions are varied in difficulty and make for some good fun. Some answers actually provide a little extra trivia. The card holders indicate from where to pick a card to ask a question (question mark) and where to place the card when done (exclamation point). I absolutely love this game!

Equally as good as 1980s original. Didn't find questions too American. Very balanced in fact. 4 star product and should be in every home. The only quibbles I had were in the design of the board itself - the colour coding is very confusing. Colours could be donated by letters for example. If you are colour blind or visually impaired this is a hard game to play. The inclusion of an electronic timer is unnecessary. And some of the questions from 2009 have already dated. But I love this game. Recommend it to purchase.

Absolutely love this game. It has provided friends and family with hours and hours of fun. It comes with a more than ample number of questions, some of which did have an American twist to them but we weren't really too bothered by this and still found the questions and answers insightful and interesting, The timer adds an extra level of slight excitment to the game but we often play with out as well. Would 100 per cent recommend this game to anyone who loves playing boardgames and learning new and random facts.

I received this as a christmas gift, a replacement for an old version of the genus edition, I LOVE it, as an avid quizzer I relished the harder questions, please don't be put off by the negative "american" questions its great fun and a challenge and surely thats the point ? We did dispense with the timer very quickly as we kept forgetting to "hit" it, if you're that picky an egg timer would have worked as well ! Love the game tho' already recommended to a friend who has bought it :o)

First of all, I dont agree with the view that this game is american based. Sure, it has a few American questions but USA is a big country with a lot of news. People have to remember that a great deal of entertainment, politics and tv comes from the States!! My children are in their early twenties and we all found the questions riveting. Its great that the categories remain the same as the original 1980's Genus edition and there are now some "picture" questions too. A top purchase.

Worn out several versions of this game and decided to go for the new one when replacing the last. Found it VERY expensive on the HIgh St and very well discounted on Amazon so it was a no-brainer.A few subtle changes to the game including a timer to hurry those slow-coaches along a bit (soooooooo annoying....."Oooh I KNOW this, just give me a minute!"), but other than that, the classic game. Delivery was as promised, so well done again Amazon!

I was a little sceptical after reading some of the other reviews here, but found this version of the game is alright. Yeah, it could be a little better, they have cut down the question packs a bit, but not as much as I was expecting, and the new timer widget is a bit annoying. However, we have had a lot of fun with this game over Christmas, so no complaint here - after all, isn’t that what it's all about, having a bit of fun?

3.1.2012

Trivs has long been an old family favourite but we wanted a more up to date version in time for Christmas so ordered this one from Amazon at a very good price and it arrived reliably and speedily as always. Would have given 5 stars but in this version the colour patterns on the wedge spaces and centre hub are strangley mottled and the colours difficult to distinguish in low light. Otherwise, great fun and educational too.

I purchased this in an attempt to beat my mother in law at trivial persuit on Christmas Day. If we are at her house we always play, and I attributed my repeated losses to the fact that her board was from the early 80s; before I was born in fact. This version is gloriously up to date, very smart looking and the questions are recent, relevant and interesting....... and she still beat, only slightly less resoundingly!

Don't be put off by "amerian questions" comments. I got this product today and the questions and answers and answers are very much British related. E.g."The song from 2007 dairy milk ad?""Third largest isle in British Isle""Who lives in Belsen Mandela house Peckham?"And the answers to others are:"The kop Liverpool"It is a Western Hemisphere game for sure, but I would definitely say uk orientated for sure

4.7.2013

Does exactly what it says on the box. It's got a board, the question cards and the the player pieces, a dice and a timer which has some weird music playing when you turn it on. Nothing more to say really, I bought this because the current version of trivial pursuit I had was outdated which meant I didn't know a lot of the dated questions and plus some of the answers given were wrong to the current generation.
