This game is worth a purchase if you love trains and sim city style simulation. Some pointers for new players. The aim is to get your town growing by building an infrastructure of trains and now buses/trucks. This version by default doesn't allow separate time table scheduling, you have to un-tick the box to have multiply vehicles moving at different/junctions times and platforms.Where to start:First thing to do is set up a factory and a material yard.(Note: you can place material yards under ground so you can build buildings above it.) now place a Marshall station nearby .. Your next material yard should be at least 15 moves from your last station and other material yard. Place it,you should see a green circle this is the range the cargo will cover anything outside the green circle will not grow. This is how you transport materials needed to allow sky scrapers, tall buildings and growth.Place a station (any) within the green circle of your newest material yard.Connect the two stations, select a freight train, place at the Marshall yard station select timetable assist, you can now set a departure time, this is important to do as trains running back and forth will drain your money especially freight trains and high speed passenger trains. So set the dept time for 00:00 also select unloading/loading part, change this to loading. Press ok and the train will then dept at the time set and also it should have some cargo ready to transport, once departs and arrives at the new station, with time table assist still on, set the train to stop (by default it will be on this) and change the loading/unloading part unloading also select the 'straight on' part and change to 'turn around' train should then place its cargo in your material yard and return back to Marshall yard station and reload its cargo and await to depart again. You can now save and close the time table assist. This is just a basic help so you can start growing your towns by having the cargo needed you still need to move people too, the game can be as complicated as you like. You could replace the Marshall station with a distribution centre, the next station a loading bay and use trucks.note: you will need to change some settings if you want trains/trucks/buses using the same station but on multiple platforms and with different schedules. For the campaign, some tips, sell assets that are losing you money you can see this in one of the menus. You should regularly check what is losing you money and either sell or destroy it.Things that will lose you money are factories (the ones with the material yards), freight vehicles, excessive running of trainsThings that will make you money, well placed shops, flats, passenger trains if properly timetabled. Well placed factory that is regularly re stocking (note: factories do not operate on Saturday or Sunday). Also a great way to earn cash is to spend on the 'in game stock market 'anything below 8% is a good buy as the stock usually goes as high as 20%.Anyway I hope this helps people who are put off by the confusing menu and lack of tutorial, this game is really good you just have to give it time and play around,

I was really dithering about whether to get this game or not, my previous purchase of building and transportation games have been disasters, but as a lover of the original A-Train, I thought, why not. After several false starts (the release date got pushed back a few times, and then when finally released, Amazon didn't have the stock to send), it finally arrived.Well, I was not disappointed. No crap DRM to worry about, it was a quick install, and I was up and running. The tutorial left a lot to be desired (aka non-existent), but as a previous player of A-Train, I had an idea of the quirky way the trains run, and I was up and running. I managed to amend my first freight route, add a few tracks, and that was the start of a wonderful relationship. The graphics were beautiful and so far, the game is glitch free (except the occasional Japanese reference in the game, but so far, none that are game spoilers)My only concern is that the lack of tutorial may turn some people off, it's one of those you've got to read the manual or be a previous player of the original A-Train to know what to do. Putting that aside, this game is bound to give days and weeks of entertainment.Oh, and the fabulous bonus of this game, is once it's installed, you don't need the CD in the drive. The number of games that force that was so annoying, but pleasurably this game doesn't need it, so I can come and go as I please. Bliss :)

If you like to use your brain while gaming this is probably for you. If you just want to build a train set then perhaps not. This is not a build yourself a train set game. This is a complex managerial game involving the building of a transport system and the development of the area in which it is based. You can just build a railway and hope that you make money but the real game is in managing your money so that you have enough income to pay your taxes each month and year. Let your trains run wild and leave a quiet back water at 2am and you will make a loss as no-one will get on. Timetables are very important as passenger loads impact on the money you make from a run. There are other aspects to the game such as building or buying building such as apartments, shops, factories, theme parks, and power stations and these can take some of the financial strain off your transport system, however build them in the wrong place and they become a liability.

I played the 1996 PC version of this game, it was called CEO. The new version requires quite about of micromanagement. I do remember that CEO also required a large degree of micromanagement. The graphics are appealing and smooth. I haven't delved too far into the game since it is incredibly deep. But if you like a detail city transportation simulation then this game is for you.

Taken a little longer than normal to learn how to get the most from this - but that could be my age as much anything lacking from the "tutorial". Slightly retro interface, strong on business strategy andalso a great deal of fun - just persevere with the initial challenging learning curve (which may be just me!)

Instructions could be betterComplex good game for sim fansMaybe wrong but key point on original A Train was you could buy land around station. From what I have played of this game you need to run railway efficiently not build a utopian city.I like to fantasise I am god not a rail coordinator.Looks great

This a great game for all A-Train followers. It is hard and sometimes I wish that there were a few cheats out there. But it is addictive.
