I felt compelled to write a review after the last two missed the point enitrely, although they do have a point when they say that its requires a beefy computer. If anything though, its a good reason to get an upgrade, heres why:Firstly, this game is processor dependant, rather than graphics, so yes a dual-core is a must. I find that even though the graphics have been updated FA runs better than SupCom did, as support for multi-threading has been improved. My rig, AMD X2 4600, 2GB, ATI 1950pro, runs it fine in medium settings for the most part, however upgrade to a quad core like my flat mate (even though he still uses his 2 year old ATI 1800xt) and you can run it in FULL settings with no slowdown. My biggest gripe with the original was the massive slowdown in multiplayer games before players reached their unit counts, GPG have optimised the networking code and now this is less of an issue. So what do you get for all that processing power? The sheer scale of the battlefields and units is in my opinion enought to justify it. However there is so much more. Take for instance the massive build queues, or base build templates you can set up leaving you free to concentrate on strategy and tactics, the ai used to control formations of units avoiding micro management of untis leaving you free to concentrate on strategy and tactics, players can send units out on patrol, ferry units across water or protect that ferry which can be automated leaving you free to concentrate on strategy and tactics. All this is pretty CPU heavy, but it doesn't stop there. All the weapons fire is heavily dependant on the physics engine, meaning that laser fire won't go though and hit that unit hiding behind a building, it will rip down the building first, that missiles and other ballistics fly using well modelled ballistic curves so that if an army is just behind a hill and using the terrain to protect from direct weapons fire and artillery, you can still use missiles to get up and over to them. When you consider that several players can have several hundred units all requiring cpu time to counculate ballistics fire you begin to see that maybe for the features present the cpu requirement isnt so high.Secondly, the gameplay is way in advance of anything else out there. Which RTS fan hasn't dreamed of commanding legions of tanks, jets, battleships across enormous battlefields? As for the huge experimental units, words just cannot explain how much fun it is to crush your ennemy with the mega sized overpowered beasts! Unit construction, and control I outlined above, but I didn't touch upon the sheer diversity of the factions. To the novice many of the units might appear to be same same, to the intermediate you learn that almost every unit/structure has unique strengths, weaknesses and a counter, to the advanced there is a unit/structure for every particular situation to break up that ennemy column, break the base defenses down and ensure victory. Meaning that you have to be clever to win, because both you and your opponents can do so in a huge variety of ways. Then of course as any supreme commander player knows, is the zoom in/out facility that enables you to see the action and select any unit/units and relay orders very quickly across the entire battle field. This lack of this feature in other titles alone is enough to put me off playing anything else, at least until some better way of controlling a battlefield comes along.Thirdly, did I mention that it is pretty? As I touched upon above, you don't need that £3oo graphics card to appreciate it in all its splendour, although admitidly you'll want that quad core to get the most out of it, which if you can afford is a worthwhile upgrade and cheaper than a top grahpics card anyway even if you need a motherboard and ram too.Watching my flat mate play on his (has to be said fairly modest) rig makesme sick with jealousy and planning my next upgrade.Fourthly, GPGnet and the support for this game are just awesome. The admins are helpful (can be funny on occasion too), the forums insightful, and GPGnet (the front for launching online play) gets better with every patch. In its infancy I thought it was pretty poor, however features such as a world map to see where other gamers are playing from, the replay vault where you can get replays from top players (read tutorials), the content vault for custom mods and maps, the tournament callendar showing upcoming events and tournaments (some with prizes) just make the online experience nothing short of epic.In conclusion, this game is huge, in every possible sense of the word, and although nothing is perfect, Supreme Commander FA is as close as it gets in multiplayer, and I would give it more than five stars if possible. If RTS is your thing, and your rig is as good/better than mine get this game.If You have supreme commander, and your rig is fine get this game.If you want to play and are worried about your rig taking it, you know what to do...cos the bang is worth the buck!

i must admit this game takes a while to defeat your enemy and forces you to play the long game for maybe 3-6 hours per mission depending on your situation and how good your enemy is vs you. i didn't find much fun within the game and to just crack that boredem i cheated with many experimentals naturally after completing the game once.the game is rather decent as you have to use your head when confronting your enemy, however the game is still by far centred more on experimentals in order to defeat your enemy so it makes no difference from the orginal in some respect. the game could use some improvments here and there such as the triggers for cutscenes could be reduced to quicken up loading, and an interruption option by pressing a certain key to end the cutscene if you fail miserably the last time out and restart and the UEF experimentals could use a balance up compared to both cybran and Aeon.the campaign is very linear you choose UEF the guy you will be fighting with General Fletcher will welcome you, you play as Aeon he critizes you or you play as a cybran and he talk down to you for not looking after Dr. Brackman's brain tank properly. infact playing as a cybran you are critized or surprise them by both Aeon and UEF, where as you play Aeon and UEF your held in some respect to all 3 sides.the main characters you will come up with are Rhiza an Aeon loyalist. Dostya a Cybran military strong woman and advisor. General Fletcher a secretive UEF command officer. General Hall a UEF command officer and Advisor. Dr. Brackman an english speaking cybran Einstein and advisor. HQ Advisor a UEF Logistics officer reporting everything you need to know to which ever side you chose and to every mission your on. Saraphim commander a talkative alien solider who you can not understand until later on. QAI an AI construct developed by Dr. Brackman turned mad. and, Princess Burke the leader of the Aeon and advisor.some years after the Cybran, Aeon and UEF in fighting a new race arrives to claim this space as theirs, the Seraphim. despite being a new race it's basically the same as your factions, ground units, air units, water units, experimentals and buildings. all 3 factions form an alliance to push out the Seraphim once earth's population was exterminated.

I don't think the original Supreme Commander needs any introductions. Suffice to say that it's become by far and away my favourite RTS, beating Dawn of War, C&C 3 etc.I was really looking forwards to this add-on, particularly the new faction that it adds to the game. In this respect it really delivers - the Seraphim have some awsome units and the additions to the other factions are also great - the individuality of the different factions has been significantly enhanced. The mini-map and whole user interface have also received a much needed revamp. The in-game interface is now much more customisable, which is very useful as it allows the player to display exactly the information you need.My only criticism is that the mini-map appears to be only available in a cartographic view which can make it very difficult to discern different units in large battles. My only but large criticism is the AI. Anyone who used to play or plays Starcraft will know immediately what I mean by the Zergling rush - hordes of low-tech units swarm your base within seconds of a game starting, making it all but impossible to build up forces or have any sort of time to build up in the initial stages of a game. The original SupCom didn't suffer from this which was most welcome, as I find the Zergling Rush tactic to be immensely frustrating. Unfortunately FOrged Alliance suffers chronically from it.In my first ever skirmish game in Forged Alliance, within literally seconds of the game starting I was under heavy attack from both ground and air units. The attack came so fast that I could almost believe that the AI cheats. Having persevered through a few more skirmish games my dissapointment was confirmed.I'll say this quite clearly - I DON'T LIKE strategy games that use the zergling rush AI tactic and this really turned me off what is otherwise a great RTS.For on line play this isn't a problem, but AI skirmishes are nothing short of pointlessly frustrating. In this one respect, this is a classic example of something that worked but for some reason someone decided that it needed fixing. This may be a bug, I don't know, but until (or if) this is changed I'll stick to the original SupCom.

Brilliant game, completely underrated! This as opposed to all other strategy games has actual tactics, each and every unit and strategy has a counter; although until you learn the actual tactic, you will probably just be smashing out random units in the first few play-through(s) against easy-normal AI bots. Also be careful of the online or you may be called a smurf! Whatever that is. Seriously though online can be very hard, and you will be going against people with evolved and clearly defined strategies and back up plans like a game of chess, so you have been warned, although I love playing it with my mate who is just as inexperienced as I am; he thought up a 'strategy'of building up experimental sort of 'end game' behemoth units to defeat me, it worked and frustrated me at first, until I realized that his strategy needed time, and lots of it. So I harassed him with small units and then disabled his shields as he was almost done building them (huehue) then destroyed them leaving him weak and completely unprepared, he tries building up a quick small army to repel me, but it's too late; Iv'e already got a formidable ground force (and maybe navy) to be reckoned with. He tries to defend himself with building anti air and ground turrets, but is quickly overwhelmed having spent all of his resources (and time) into his massive experimental bots.As you can see it's lots of fun, although my one gripe about this game if any is the AI. They're quite smart, though they have this one annoying trait which is to rush and harass you as you're just starting out in a game, I wouldn't usually mind; but mid-construction buildings are very weak, and it's a hassle having to micro-manage my base as well as fend off little pesky air and ground units. I've tried setting the AI to turtle and defensive modes, but they still rush with weak units and it just throws me off my game honestly, but setting up some quick anti air and ground turrets quickly solves the problem, I'd rather have the option to set it otherwise.Great game 9/10 ...I also accidentally nuked myself at one point, which raises this game to 10/10

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance is a strong addition to the RTS genre, it fixes many of the issues which plagued Vanilla SupCom (played since beta), such as balancing, and the symmetric sides and improves upon the game experience by minimizing the base building gameplay and encourages more resource grabbing.FA introduces a new campaign, moderately low number of actual missions but each is a can range up to a considerable length depending on how hard or easy you find them, you may actually end up finding missions *too* hard in some instances compared to Vanilla SupCom as the AI has been improved upon.I haven't really mentioned the new faction to the game; the Seraphim for a simple reason, the campaign is only available for the existing (beefed up) factions. However, where Supreme Commanders strength really lies is with the multiplayer mode. With both Vanilla and FA (I recommend you buy the set with both, I had bought Vanilla at launch so obviously I could not) you can play all 4 factions in matches which can only be described as epic against other players, although I have to warn you that a rather powerful computer would be needed for the very top end matches (80x80km with 8 players), however assuming you have a fairly modern computer with discrete graphics, (dual-core recommended) you should be still able to compete. The best part of both games is not in the singleplayer action (there is a skirmish mode if you do not want to repeat the campaign) but in the challenge of fighting other players and overcoming those challenges, not only will this never become repetitive but also will always give a new experience and reward.

This expansion fixes nearly all the problems that the original supreme commander had. The new units really complement the old ones and factional diversity has been greatly expanded (before it was pretty much just experimental units). Online games are now fast and dynamic with a wide range of strategic options available (unlike most rts, where its not so much general strategy, but more about microing the units you have effectively). The scale of the game allows for a number of really sneaky tactics. For example, if you're being overwhelmed by the enemy attack force, but you can hold out for a few more minutes you might find he left his own base undefended and be able to blow up a large numberof his production facilities forcing him to deal with that first.

The one of the best RTS games ever. If You remember the Total Annihilation then You would love this game. As nuch as the diversity of the units has ben compromised (comapring to the orginal TA) the game play itself make up for this. This addon is essential for owners of the original supreme commander as it adds some great stuff as well as repairing few annoying things form the SC. I just hope that soon we will see an custom addons and units for this fantastic game -> which in return will give You the same taste and mood of Total Annihilation. In any way, the best RTS game of the recent times.

Some things in life don't change and an RTS is at home on a PC (a powerful one is handy I admit though). A PS3 with a mouse still isn't going to cut it.Forged Alliance is awesome. Better than Supreme Commander since we get all the toys available from the word go this time. But don't let me distract anyone from buying the first version and getting to grips with that as that too is a cracker. On the specs side of things, I've got a pretty evil machine so I can't really advice on minimum specs sorry.

Ok ill give this to you straight up. This is a nice game very good and hard as well. I dont like easy games. But the down side is that you would need a beast of a pc to play it. It says on the back about the recommended specs but that doesnt even cut it.Here's wat I am running:intel celeron 2.80ghz1 gb ram160gb hard drive7800gs 256mb gfx card. (Going to have to oc it to play)That config strugles to play it.So thats why I rate this 4 stars. good game but power lame.

If you've played the original computer game then get this one, if not this is a good game. It's a strategy game where you play one side and go through the missions that get bigger and allow more options. Some missions are hard and you have to work out the best way to get past them, but once you do it's easy enough then you can change the setting to make it harder. It's one of those games that you play and before you know it its 2 o'clock in the morning.

This game puts strategy before tactics as did Supreme Commander, however with more units, bigger maps and better mods you will love it. If you are looking for a very challenging RTS game then you should consider this. There are a It huge number of units, each with different strengths and weaknesses, giving you a vast selection of strategic options.ProsGreat gameLots of diversityLooks greatConsAs you use bigger maps you may need better hardware

4.1.2011

Anyone into huge warfare should enjoy this challenging game. You feel like your in a real war. One of things that gives this scope is the zoom, you can get close into the action or look at the game arena overall, no other RTS that I have seen gives you that. Also there is real tension when playing online, if you think your getting good there are players out there that are really good.Overall this game is the best RTS I have ever played.

I love this game (Supreme Commander with Forged Alliance add-on), despite it being a little older a few of us got this and play it semi-regularly... I've bought 3 copies now... 1 for me and 2 to give as gifts to other mates to get them drawn in.It has a great balance of resources/economy management, attack and defence, different clans and single/team player games etc.Just ace... give it a go.

5.3.2013
