I will always remember the first time Jolee Bindo told me the 'boy and the snake' story. We were stood in a hall, very near the end of the game, just before the room where the final quest kicks off - bright sunlight and an ominous figue in black warning me to finish my business before I stepped in. It was my very last opportunity to talk to one of my companions. I clicked over the wise hermit Jolee, and he told me he had a story to tell. And after he had put up with all my busybody questions this whole time, now I would listen to a story, damn it!--The story was worth hearing. The writing in KotOR is slightly dated by the standards set by Bioware's more recent hits, often slightly 'videogame-y'and always less cinematic, but it's just....... amazing. The combat is semi-turn based - very similar to Dragon Age: Origins or the recent Pillars of Eternity - but it's just....... so fun. And if you've ever wanted to play a game where Bioware absolutely live up to their promises and potential, then this is it. It's the one that put them on the map. It's also the game to play if you're looking for that 'feel like you're in Star Wars' quality that games like Battlefront and Jedi Knight come so close to capturing but don't quite get. In an average 30-40 hour playthrough of KotOR you can expect to save / condemn the galaxy, ride swoop bikes, manipulate beaurocats and dodge docking fees with the Jedi mind trick, leap halfway across a map to cut a sand-person in half, convert a lost dark Jedi back to the light (or the opposite), buy an assassin droid who calmly tells you how every single one of his former owners died by his hands and just how much he enjoyed it, and argue with all manner of space-Nazis about every facet of space-racism. It feels very 'Star Wars' and very 'Bioware' at the same time, yet the two never clash. In this regard, what the game does best is in breathing life and weight into the 'good versus evil' meter that so many RPGs had back then, and some still maintain shadows of (i.e. Mass Effect, The Walking Dead). KotOR's devs and writers were aware that they had the Star Wars licence for this one and that their story was supposed to be about Jedi knights. They took full advantage of the 'lure of the dark side' angle, finally allowing the cruelty or generosity of your actions to be meaningful and to form the centre of a game's story. Who your character becomes is crucial to the plot, so deciding who to torture with lightning and who to donate money to makes all the difference in the world. It all builds up to a single brilliant decision and two very distinct, very satisfying endings. The game knows exactly what was so great about The Empire Strikes Back (Yoda, Vader, the dark side, the love story, the big twist, the world-building, the witty banter) and it lovingly packs it all in.--Jolee's 'boy and the snake' story ended with my Jedi - her skin pale and cracking behind the ears, her eyes turning yellow with the weight of some of my more fiendish choices - coldly asking the old man, "Am I supposed to be the snake?" His answer, just before we stepped into the stark white light of the next room: "Well now, that's what I came to find out."Star Wars role-playing has never been so perfect.

I don’t normally enjoy these d20 role-playing games (they can degenerate into a lot of ‘go forward, shoot, repeat’) but there was such a strong Star Wars element to this one it made all the difference to me – if you enjoy Star Wars (and I’m assuming you do if you’re bothering to read this) there’s a fair chance that’ll apply to you even if you’re not a RPG fan.It builds up well from the tutorial scene at the start, letting you develop a range of skills, pick up a variety of equipment and, of course, handle a light sabre. Although in many ways it was like a standard action game the story was excellent, and the immerse variety of the worlds you visit (with the chance to learn a bit more about the Star Wars universe)and the diverting array of side games all raised the standard.

It crashed after a minute of playing, typical, after waiting months for the bugs to be ironed out before purchasing and there are still problems running it.Rummaging through the web page of star wars Knights of the Old Republic managed to recover a solution which involved changing a notepad file in the program about how the screen refreshes. It worked brilliantly after that, the script is very well produced and the choices of how to respond are very amusing and sometimes hilarious. The force powers are very well covered although trying to get my characters power increased didn't seem to be possible, kept using up power at awkward moments, swopping characters, which is very easy, did help.

The Game has a Great Sotryline with muti-colouerd Light sabers and amazing Force powers But It Can Crash at times, so I recomend using The Lowest Graphic settings first the see how well it does then on higher ones later and also save often and when I say that, I mean all the time every new area, new battle, new.. well everytime something changes cause you can just reload it at the last point this whole rigmarole can be annoying but worth it as the game is just soo big and fun and well awesome it can be hard to get past the first slightly boring and tricky bit but stay with it and the story really developes quite nicely. well worth the buy if you PC is good enough to play it.

Bought these after having lost the original xbox games. Came quickly and were in perfect condition. Took me a little while to work out how to get them to work as I have windows 7 but once I worked out the kinks it was easy. For anyone wondering you should run it in windows vista compatibility mode and as an administrator. Once loaded and on the screen, before clicking play game make sure to turn off videos. With the videos off it should run smoothly and start up properly on the first try. With videos on you have to try anumber of times and hope the videos don't freeze it before you get to the game screen.

I play it on my Laptop and for such an old game it still really puts my laptop through its paces at low settings.I've been a huge Bioware fan since Mass Effect 1 so I decided to go back & give this a try.It contains the same fantastic cast of voice actors and the same briliant storytelling as you should be expecting of Bioware. It also has the Dark vs Light mechanic, which is just a bit too obvious at times. It isn't quite as good as Dragon Age or Mass Effect, but given its age I really can't fault that.Still definitely worth playing if you are either a Bioware or a Star Wars fan (or both like me).

I first bought this game when I was a very little kid, I could not complete it because it was too difficult for a child of my age group, but as the years went by, I slowly got further and further...and then when I got old enough to understand the game I finally completed it. It was the most memorable, fun, exiting, wonderful games I've ever played in my life. I bought it on Xbox, then years later I bought it on PC because I missed it so much, if you don't buy this game you will miss out on one of the best RPG's in history! I highly recommend this, not a darn con with this game, only pro's!!

This game is one of the best I have ever played! Everything from the storyline, cut sequences, excitement, sound, graphics, playability etc are all excellent. But most importantly is the replayability, it is immense. You can play it again and again as a different Jedi or as a Sith. So many options. So much variety. Its just pure fun. Okay it needs a good PC with a very good graphics card but its worth buying a better PC just to play this game alone. Its just bundles of fun fun fun. Lots of force powers to use, numerous locations, unique characters and creatures etc etc etc

Have just completed this game....around 40 hrs with all major sub quests and most minor. This game is awesome....I can't recommend it enough. I feel there is enough info below without going into too much detail.Niggles....Had frequent game freezes at the beginning even with the patch. NPC's occassionly get in the way, one room become unavailable. However in no way did this detract from the enjoyment. The game oozes quality and is very gripping givng you the '5 more minutes' urge...and then the time just flies.A must buy

The game is for people who can enjoy a great story. The video and audio performance is brilliant, especially because of the actor playing and voice over, of every character. This RPG is one that will leave you wanting to know more, and you can't wait to see how the story and your character progresses. You also have the availability to fully customize your character in the sense that it will reflect you, and every decision that you make will have an impact. Just play it and you'll soon see what I mean.

This is a brilliant game. I played it on the original Xbox first and now own it for the PC.I'm mainly writing this review to post this link to the fix to make KOTOR and KOTOR2 work on Vista and 7, just search 'KOTOR 1 vista fix' on google and follow the top link to lucasforums. Hope this helps :)

This is a brilliant game and provides plenty of entertainment. Admittedly it is bit dated and perhaps appeals mostly for Star Wars fans. Due to its age it doesn't need much to run well so very suitable to run even on bit slower laptop.

I've only just received my copy today and have played it for less than an hour but so far there have been no problems. The game runs fine on Windows 10 straight out of the box, so I have no complaints at all.

I lik playing this game as it allows the freedom to make your character
