I love the Stabilo fineliners. They are my pen of choice for adult colouring books. A lot of adult colouring designs have a lot of fine details on them and some pens are really hard to colour inside the lines of smaller areas. These are perfect for intricate designs. On some of the bigger colouring areas it can be harder to not leave gaps, but if you touch it up you'll get there eventually.They are also really pretty for writing with, if you want to colour-code notes or present something a bit more artistically. Though I prefer them for smaller bits of writing, rather than for anything substantial.In regard to the 40 pack:I recommend to anyone who takes their colouring seriously,to ignore the smaller sets and just get this one. I originally bought a set of 20, which was fine for a while then I found there were a few shades I felt I was lacking and started looking for other sets that didn't include too many duplicate colours. I bought the pastels set and then started looking for individual pens I was lacking in shops, which involves luck. In the end I searched Amazon for the 15 colours I was missing individually and found it was much cheaper to just buy the 40 set, as it had all the ones I needed, but now I have a lot of duplictate colours.Stabilo have a range of 41 standard 88 fineliner colours (not including neons). The 40 pen set includes all of the standard colors apart from 59, which is Light Lilac.That annoys me, because they don't have a good selection of purples anyway. (The one they call Purple (19) is more of a dark red/maroon and the one they call Lilac (58) is really magenta. That just leaves Violet (55) as the only true purple in the set. I take my purples seriously.)Why couldn't they make it a 41 colour set? If you want all 41 colours, you'll have to buy the Light Lilac individually or in the pastel colours set. (That one is the proper lilac shade.)Aside from purples, they have a very good range of colours. There are plenty of greys to choose from, which is where most sets fall down. The 40 pack has some great blues, greens and browns, which I haven't been able to find in other sets. Good news for nature colouring fans.I would give 4.5 stars if possible. 4 stars for colour range (would get 5 if it had more purples) and 5 stars for the quality of pens. I have yet to come across another brand as good as these.

I love these Stabilo fineliners!I bought this particular set approximately five years ago for my other half, a designer, and they are still going strong with regular (though admittedly infrequent) use.They are so good that I have bought several other sets over the years, and in this time only one individual pen has begun to feel different to the day it was new. The ink has not yet started to run out, but the nib itself feels a little less solid than it used to, though it is still very pleasant to use and perfectly functional. This pen is a black pen that I use a lot for writing.All of the pens of this type that I use get used for a combination of general writing and also for drawing projects.I use most of them every day, and the newest of my own pens would be approximately 6 months old.They are very smooth to write and draw with, and the ridged body makes it easy and pleasant to handle. The nib is very fine and the ink is very smooth.The colours are vibrant and mostly long lasting. For example I drew a cartoon portrait of my other half approximately five years ago and this does not seem to have faded at all. In my home office however I have a notice on the wall drawn with these pens and it has begun to fade after approximately 12 months, though it is in direct sunlight.This particular set is particularly handy coming as it does in the roll. This makes it easy to transport and reduces the chances of misplacing a colour. The range of colours in the set is great, and certainly suits me for most projects.I would definitely purchase these again, and in fact I regularly do!

I love stationery, STABILO point 88s aren't my favourite colour pens overall but they are a worthy perhaps necessary addition to any pen lovers collection because what they are good at they are brilliant.The colours are rich and dependable, with deeply pigmented inks no matter the lightness of the colour. Also you don't get wearing part way through the ink and you think it's done only to find it suddenly work again due to bubbles or upright storage like you do with needle or roller type nibs. I find them excellent for mind mapping and planning, sectioning or titling, underlining, emboldening parts of the text and indispensable in a bullet journal or similar diary.They are also great for fine colouring if that's what floats your boat due to the fine tip.The colours in this range include a nice rainbow plus teal, black and pink and then 5 neon highlighter sequence colours which is great for micro highlighting (ie underling in a passage that a traditional highlighter would obliterate due to spacing!) or adding a touch of neon to designsHowever they aren't my favourite pens because the tip design means they eventually cave to the pressure of your writing whether you are heavy handed or not and the 0.4 line graduates to something larger depending on your handedness and angle, I often end up with a sloping tip which widens the point considerably. This is why they aren't my go to note taking pens, I prefer needle or roller tips for that but they are exceptionally useful otherwise.

These are brilliant colour pens, they come in a really handy roll up slipcase that is easy to fit into a bag. I tested the durability of these on my niece who went crazy drawing and I thought she was going to snap the tip, she was leaning down fairly hard . I checked on the damage when she left and it was in perfect condition. I am not sure how this is possible but it held out. still I wouldn't test fate too much just to be safe. my nieces can have the large crappy cheap ones next time and they can punish them as much as they like.There is a good variety of colour including 4 greens and 4 blue shades to add really great effects to some parts if you put some thought into it.there are some really lovely unique shades of purples and a skin colour pen too.These pens are very smooth but just to give you all heads up they need a small bit of warming up before they get into the proper flow. so if they seem a tiny bit hard to draw with at the start don't worry, just keep going and you will find they get nice and soft after a minute or two. when this happens you will experience the full awesomeness of these pens, the colour will come out quickly and evenly, its a wonderful feeling.These pens are not for kids, these are for young adults or for people who know how to handle small tips and can be gentle with them. They can take a lot of abuse but the colour comes out better when you treat them with respect lolfull stars.

I have used Staedtler products for many years to help me highlight elements of my work; mainly handwritten notes, but also periodically to highlight printed piece of work too. I realise that there are highlighter pens for the latter, however, old habits die hard and when writing notes referring to a particular topic, i often switch pens to highlight a particular topic; in my case this can often be key words such as "elderly", "homeless" etc etc.The Stabilo are useful in this respect and whilst not quite matching the Staedtler in terms of quality, they most certainly do in terms of price; where they are only 60% of the cost of their competitor. I rarely sketch things and then always use pencil,therefore my use of these items is generally for manuscript. So far after a couple of weeks regular use, the ink remains as bold as new, similarly the tips remain in pristine condition. They draw a consistenly fine line for highlighting and for writing the ink flows consistently and evenly.In summary, I really like this item, yes they are pastel shades, however they come from a range of 40 colours and therefore I have ordered a similar set in a darker colour and also a packet of the black pens. Move over Staedtler, I feel that I might be saving some cash.

Stabilo are a well-known name when it comes to stationery and with good reason. You can always count on them to produce good quality products that work well and last a decent amount of time.These pens are no exception. They’re fine liners producing a drawn/written line of 0.4mm. They don’t smudge and run well along rulers (which I now understand is due to the tips having a metal edge to them so that it will run smoothly).The colours are great, giving you a range of pens for drawing, writing or whatever you fancy. In this particular packet you get 5 neon pens. I suppose these are just like very thin highlighters. They’re not much use for simply writing on white paper (you can read the text but next to the other colours,they’re not very vibrant) but would be great for adding highlights to drawings, text or for writing on a darker paper or card.It says that you can leave the cap off the pens for a long time without the pen drying out. I personally wouldn’t risk it but I suppose it is reassuring that if you forget to pop the cap back on, you’re not ruining your pens.At the time of this review, this packet of 15 costs just over £10. For what you get, that’s excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend these pens. 5 stars.

After receiving an adult colouring book for Christmas I needed some fine pens to use.I settled on these after reading many reviews on various products I'm not at all disappointed with these. They arrived in a plastic pocket which is adequate if you only have this set, I have 3 sets of pens now and brought myself a tin to store them all in.There are 30 pens in total; 25 are your normal colour variants and 5 neon colours which are truly brilliant. Each colour is pretty and a true match to what the pen lid dictates.A lot of people commented on how 'scratchy' they were, but I have found that not pressing too hard gives a smooth colouring.The problem of the ink going through the page and onto next page is simply resolved; I use an A4 piece of card which I simply put behind the page I'm colouring. Only helps if your pictures are on one page and not double sided.Overall, I've been using these pens for over 4 weeks now and they are not showing any signs of running out or damage to the nibs. Hence I can happily recommend these to anyone looking for very fine tipped pens for adult colouring or precise drawing.

I love these pens! I have a pack that I purchased in my final year of school for note-taking. I am currently 32, and the ink is just running out now! They have been with me through school, university, and my adult colouring phase, and some of them are still going strong! Absolutely great (seemingly endless) supply of ink!I bought these as they had a greater variety of colours and shades than the standard packs. They did not disappoint- there is a brilliant selection of colours. Not too similar to each other, but still complementary to other colours in the pack.They are as fine as a standard ball point pen, so they are great for writing with. They also are ideal for filling out the tiny details in some colouring books,where standard felt pens are too chunky. Just perfect for detail work.I guess the one thing I may change is the fact that the barrels are all yellow/orange, so you need to look at the cap to identify the colour within. But that is really not much of a problem at all.Overall I thoroughly recommend them to people looking to do close-up detail work, or colourful writing.

Let's look at the downside first, the colours which you receive are random and therefore no two packs are the same, which for some could be a drawback, however, for me, it is the vivid colours which I really appreciate as sadly, I do not have any artistic flair at all and my best efforts could easily be bettered by a child in infant school. Reading and adding comments to report or amending documents, these pens come into their own in my world. The o.4mm points are incredibly fine and allow me to insert comments easily about text, even above single line spaced work.Additionally, these are great for sketching out work,which for me is often diagrammatic in nature and therefore the range of bold colours helps me greatly to explain the drawing; most important though for me is that despite the fine point, with a light hand, these are great to write with. I tend to use different colours to break up the context of the text e.g. between speakers at conference, or to note points in a discussion.Great pens and worth every penny, only bettered by the Staedtler equivalent.

I got these for my children to use and they've been having a good time with them. The pens have fine (0.4mm) tips meaning they are more for writing or drawing lines rather than colouring in larger areas. The makers say they are smudge-free and we haven't managed to prove them wrong yet. They come in a plastic wallet case and there are 15 of them. The pens are hexagonal so that you can grip them well.On the downside maybe is that my youngest (who is 4) seems to want to use these to colour in big areas but these are not for that. I'll have to get him more felt tips for that. Also the inner cardboard insert says "each pack is unique" implying that the pen colours in each pack are different which is not the case.I believe it is the design on the cardboard that is different each time. I don't see why they are confusing the customer, nor do I see the benefit in having a uniquely designed bit of cardboard for these pens.But overall these will be useful for my 7-year-old in particular to do nice colourful pieces of homework for her weekly learning log.

I first discovered these when I was in high school, 15 years ago and I love them still to this day! They are so versatile. I use them in all areas of design work, for graphic work, brain storming and work needing a key for explanation. Most recently I have used them for adult colouring books. With their fine nib, I can colour in intricate areas but can also colour bigger areas too. The nibs are strong, they eventually bend slightly with pressure and prolonged use but this in no way affects the flow of ink and the nib stays thin, in fact I like it when they mould to the angle I'm colouring as it flows on the page better and covers areas quicker. They are vibrant and don't fade.The hexagonal shaft help to grip the pen.I particularly like this pack with the array of additional colours, like soft pastels and the neons.I like that you can mix colours too when colouring, I.e shading a leaf with several greens. They don't bleed through the paper.They are water soluble, great for when my kids get their hands on them.Definitely recommend.

I love colouring ones and pencils so have enjoyed using these finekiners. They are very versatile and I’ve used them for both colouring and writing,The points are fine but perfectly adequate for writing. I am studying at the moment and find note writing is easier for revision if I switch colours every couple of paragraphs. Makes it easier to read back. The pigment of these pens is good enough to do this and the one or two neon colours are great for underlining hey points.Colouring is always nice with fineliners as you can highlight details and enhance sections of the paper. I tend to use mixed media in my art with various colouring items from pencils to paint.Fineliners are a staple part of my art supply kit so these have been added to my kit and used.I gather that the pens are not standardised and various colours are added to each set but nearly all the colour spectrum is represented so there is some sorting, I can’t imagine they would leave any set without primary colours for example.Nice pens for a broad spectrum of use,

Great pens, very comfortable to use. Although it has a squared tip, it is fine to use angled with nice ink flow. The pen glides on the paper, no scratching feeling. No bleed through or ghosting in colouring books with decent paper quality (like Johanna Basford, Maria Trolle, Hanna Karlzon, Romantic country, etc). A very good range of colours and the caps match pretty nicely with the respective colour. As mentioned before, it comes in 47 colours, with doubles of red, blue and black, a total of 50 pens. I added a color swatch of all 47 colours under natural light, which are very similar to real life tones, no editing. The #24 lemon yellow, #024 neon yellow and #033 neon green are difficult to read because are very light,but show nicely when filling areas. My favorite colours are #50 crimson, #19 purple, #98 payne's grey, #13 ice green, #88 light ochre, #26 apricot and #94 light grey. The neon colours are very brilliant and vivid, especially the yellow highlighter-like #024. Highly recommend!

I bought these back in January, and I'm now looking to buy another pack as my favourite colours are running out... they've lasted six months, which is incredible considering I use them for all my sixth form notes & homework, as well as letters, journal writing, doodles and everything. There is literally not a day where I don't use them, and I write a lot!They all worked fine, and continued to do so- as long as you're careful with putting the caps on securely and making sure you don't split the nib as you do so [almost impossible, yet one of my friends managed it!] then they're pretty durable things, and the colour choice is excellent.It can be easy to hold them slanted,which does wear down the nib meaning you can only write with it at the same angle, so I'm going to try to get out of that habit, but that's a user error.Fab variety of colours, and really useful pens. The fact I'm back to buy another pack says it all really- brilliant value for money :)

My daughter is just a couple of months into her Art GCSE’s, being quite arty myself I have passed on a lot of my pencils and paints. Having the opportunity to experiment with these fine liners I was excited on my daughters behalf.They arrived quickly in a simple brown packing envelope, inside the pens were in a simple plastic sleeve. The caps are a nice firm fit they also clip on the end of the pen so they don’t get lost in use.The colours are wide and varied, I’m not sure about the concept of every pack being unique, it would be nice to know what you were getting in case you had a project in mind you wanted them for.In use the colours are bold and the detail you can get with the fine tip is perfect for many applications,they would have been ideal for a house floor plan that I had to produce recently.My daughter has now added them to her art inventory and I look forward to seeing the results over the next couple of years of use.
