...'designed especially for right-handers' is on the box, along with:‘Suitable for preschool kids and school children perfecting the tripod grip while learning to write’✤ STABILO® EASY Start✤ RIGHT-HANDED COLOURING PENCIL SET with SHARPENER✤ TRIANGULAR-BARRELLED with ‘NON-SLIP GRIP MOULDS’✤ WALLET of 12 EASYcolors✤ COLOUR : ASSORTEDREF : 332/12‘Wood from sustained forest cultureMade in EU'A large part of my stationery kit bag is made up of 'STABILO®’ products and these triangular-barrelled colouring pencils remain long term favourites with younger participants, not just their attractive ‘cut away’ finish for the grip zone but also they don’t roll about the table like a round barrelled does! The 12 relatively chunky pencils are presented in a handy, cardboard & plastic-type moulded wallet, measuring around 16 cm wide x 1 cm deep x 23.75 cm (longest) with rounded corners and in a sturdy cardboard outer for safe transit. The transparent, grooved wallet opens out in the middle like a book and has a retaining band across that is easy to pull off at one end or the other, or both, and clicks back into place.‘R’ for ‘RIGHT-HANDED’ version is clearly marked on the pack, on the useful RED-coloured sharpener and on each side of the barrel of each pencil. Each pencil has a RED end, also denoting ‘RIGHT-HANDED’ at a glance (YELLOW for LEFT-HANDED is also available). In CREAM-coloured lettering, the barrels also have a small space for a name or department to discourage any going AWOL, along with:? the swan logo ~ ‘STABILO EASYcolors’~ CE ~ '**17' & 'the colour code'The shades supplied in my pack, all preceded 332, are:~ 205 : YELLOW~ 221 : ORANGE~ 315 : RED~ 345 : PINKY-PURPLE (*)~ 350 : PINK~ 355 : FLESH~ 405 : BLUE~ 455 : LIGHT BLUE~ 520 : DARK GREEN~ 550 : LIGHT GREEN~ 655 : BROWN~ 750 : BLACK...although, the right to replace a colour in a set, if necessary, is reserved.(*) Slightly disappointing for some, perhaps, is that the PURPLE shade indicated in the drawings on the current pack is NOT supplied. Each triangular pencil is ready to use with a rounded point and measures around 17.5 cm when new.The core is relatively soft and produces a strong colour similar to the shade of the barrel without too much effort, in my experience. They sharpen relatively easily (once you get started) with the EASYcolors RIGHT-HANDED sharpener and a sharp point can be achieved, if required. The neatly carved out & finished off ‘grip zone’ is the main length of the pencil (but not the last 4-5 cm where the lettering is), doesn’t hinder sharpening and does seem to make the pencil sit more comfortably in hand, and, less tiring if colouring in larger areas. These pencils have proved to be durable and very forgiving despite bouncing off a wooden floor on a regular basis![20 images refer]

When I was a child, I used to love to write and draw. As a result, I developed a callous on the side of my middle finger. I still have it, decades later. The notches on these pencils are positioned so that the finger fits into this groove, avoiding the creation of such callouses. These notches reveal the smoothness of the natural wood from which the pencils are made, this giving a slightly silkier surface than the coated part. The pencil itself is triangular in cross-section, making it easier to grip.Tho coating is matte, and can be written on: there is a space left at the end of the pencil where you are supposed to write the owner's name. There is also the letter L and a little picture of a left hand at the very end of each pencil,so if you have both left and right-handed sets in your house, they can easily be told apart. The box consists of a paper "book" shape, enclosing clear plastic moulds with a lot for each pencil. The moulds clip back together when pressed together, so the packaging can be used as a pencil case - encouraging ownership and care of the collection. The "lead" of the pencils is quite soft, and the colour spreads easily into good blocks of solid colour. The tones chosen are less garish than many products aimed at young children, I would describe them as: scarlet, burnt sienna, lime green, cobalt blue, tan and lemon yellow. They are, however, bright enough to make a good contrast with each other. I particularly like the fact that the burnt sienna and tan are light enough to make good choices for use as flesh tones. They are slightly water soluble, and wipe easily off a wall or table, using only a damp cloth. However the pencil "leads" are quite thick, making these pencils only really suitable for colouring, rather than writing.I must mention one slight disappointment. I have hypermobile joints, which makes using pencils painful. I had hoped that these would be more comfortable for me to use also. However, I found that the angle of the grooves enccourage a more upright grip, which results in my top finger joints being bent backwards. I am not deducting a star for this, as I am not the intended market; however, I mention it, in case anyone else was looking to these for help with the same problem

Our children consist of a right-hander and a left-hander, and since we’d already been given a right-handed set of these, it was a big relief when the left-handed version appeared- peace could be restored, equality resumed. Until we realised of course that it’s quite difficult to tell the difference between the left-handed and right-handed ones at a glance…These are good, fun, broad colouring pencils. The colours are bold and cover all the normal colours that young kids tend to think of. The pencils and the leads inside them are sturdy and as durable as you’d expect them to be for kids. The pencil sharpener is child-safe and effective. As colouring pencils go,I don’t remember using a colouring pencil that’s more successful than this one. Certainly both our kids now go to these pencils as their first choice. As well as the left-hand-specific finger divots- which are subtle, and don’t actually prevent a right-hander from using these pencils at all- the triangular shape of the pencil is clearly a comfy fit for small hands. It’s clear a lot of thought and research has gone into these. When we got the first pack (right-handed) I was a bit cynical about the plastic holding wallet, which seemed a bit impractical, but that idea has definitely grown on me, even before we got the second set. Amazingly, it’s encouraged our children- who are naturally messy, of course- to tidy up the pencils that they’re not using, and whereas other coloured pencils often end up strewn across the table when they’re done, these pencils end up getting tidied away back in their box every time, which is amazing. So what I initially suspected was just a waste of plastic, now seems to me like an added plus to an already good set of pencils. These are relatively expensive for colouring pencils, but the quality is very high and generally I’d say they’re worth it- even if your child’s left-hand-ism isn’t an issue, but especially if it is.

My just turned 5 year old son has been fiercely resisting colouring, drawing, writing or anything really that resembles school, and as a consequence his school has referred him to an occupational therapist (ergotherapeut?) in an effort to boost his fine motor skills. I bought these in an effort to try to encourage him to at least try colouring!! I will still have to pretty much force him to sit down as he would much rather be doing something else, but we have had 2 successful colouring sessions so far.. His fine motor skills won't develop overnight, but because these pencils sit nicely in his hand he did feel more confident colouring and seemed to enjoy it- so much so that he actually said 'I didn't know that colouring could be so much fun!'Hopefully we will also have many more successful colouring sessions - but I don't want to push it either!!The colours are very nice and bold, and cover properly unlike some cheap pencils... They are chunkier than most, but sit well in a small hand.. They don't seem to break too easily. They are easy to sharpen and I realise I will have to monitor sharpening as my boy rather oversharpened one so it is now about an inch shorter than the others, not I think because it kept breaking but because he was just enjoying himself!!I gave the pencils 4 stars rather than 5 because they are quite expensive but I suppose if you compare them individually with artist's pencils they aren't so extortionate!I do recommend them, not just for children who are struggling with 'normal' pencils but all children really as I think it will be difficult to go back to 'normal' pencils after these..

My brother, who is left handed, has assisted with this review.First of all, I would like to make a general comment about the quality of the pencils themselves, the colours are very bright and vibrant, while the coloured "lead" is soft enough to spread onto the paper or surface being coloured with ease but do not prove to be so soft that they simply break easily, smudge or require more sharpening than I would expect to be usual. The pencils are supplied in a hard plastic mold case, which could be a substitute for a pencil case and which does provide protection to the pencils themselves and avoid the "lead" within the pencils being broken by small impacts in a satchel or storage box.The wood is not soft wood and the pencils do not bend over time or in a hot room (I tested this by putting pencils in a hot press and on a radiator, not something I would suggest if you want to keep pencils well but I did it in order to reach a conclusion quickly about whether or not they would prove of good quality under that particular sort of stress). The grip idea I was skeptical about, I thought that perhaps it was a gimick, however, my brother has advised me that he does appreciate products which are tailored for left hand use and suggested that they are easier to use as a left handed person. The product is marketed for children and he has told me that he would like to have had some when he was growing up. The ease with which they can be gripped would have helped in developing confidence in artistic pass times or in school work which required the same.

As an Ex primary school Teacher with 40 years or more experience, I can honestly say these TABILO EASYcolours Ergonomic Colouring Pencil for Left Handed - Assorted Colours, Wallet of 6 are wonderful for children and adults alike. Not only are they a set of top class pencil crayons they have machine grooves on them which makes holding them easier and less tiring than the other, non-grooved ones. The price, at the time of writing, of £4 is a good investment.I would rather have these 6 ultra useful ones than a whole bag of 24 different colours. The colours and shades produced are very good too far superior to cheaper mass produced imports. When you are young ordinary pencils are harder to hold tightlyand in the correct position. The result tiredness creeps in the application suffers and the child's enjoyment is diminished.Younger, primary, reception and early admission classes counter this with chunkier, larger size and even triangular * shaped ones. These pencils replace all those and other ones with ease. They provide a good easy to maintain grip which means the child is able to concentrate on more detail and the grips are comfortable to hold meaning the work is both neater and better. The other result is your child being more pleased with their work. A Win Win situation. These are an excellent set of well made and superior coloured pencils.(* Yes I do appreciate the term is triangular prism)

This is a lovely set of chunky colouring pencils, ideal for children around 5 years old. It’s a good range of commonly used and bold colours and they mark the paper clearly and easily. The leads are sturdy and hard to snap, and the pencil sharpener, which is safe enough for a 5-year-old to use, is quick and effective. I’ve not found a better colouring pencil, in terms of actually using it.The shape is effective too. They have a triangular profile but rounded off, and the right-handed finger divots are a great idea and surprisingly intuitive for little hands to use. (And big grown-up hands as well, surprisingly).Yes they’re substantially more expensive than a cheap set,but if you see this as a premium set for your child’s careful home-based use rather than just a bunch more pencils to chuck into the sharing pot, then it’s not unjustified. If I was trying to be critical then I might suggest that the plastic wallet these pencils come in is just a little on the impractical side, but the flipside of that is that it does help encourage your child that these are “the posh pencils” and that you ought to be sliding them back neatly into place after each use, so even that has an advantage of sorts.Other than that it’s very difficult to fault these. Expensive, yes, but a great idea and high quality.

I'm a huge fan of STABILO's entire range for children from the earliest chunky grip colouring to the fine motor and skeletal development of older children supported equally and with particular attention to supporting proper grip without embarrassing children who are struggling. This is a set of 12 colour pencils which work together with their handedness range, they are like the normal pencils which have shaved grooves and a triangular design which encourage the fingers to slip into the correct positioning to support the hand in a tripod grip. This is because often children lacking strength in the hand tire quickly maintaining the pressure, these grooves may help build stamina as they reduce the amount of tension required to grip correctly without slipping on the barrel.I'm a big fan of the handedness range and am delighted to have had the opportunity to try these, they are lovely to hold, have space for names to be written to prevent 'going missing' and the pack itself acts as a case with molded plastic, opens like a book and has a strip of plastic to keep them in place should it open in a bag. Overall, definitely worth the purchase and I'm thinking of investing in the left handed set too as my older daughter is ambidextrous and interchanges frequently.

This is a set of 6 quite thick chunky colouring pencils. They are softly rounded on the edges, but are triangular in shape and have finger grooves carved into them down almost the whole length on the pencil, to help your child get the right grip and hand posture each time they use them. These pencils are designed especially for children who are left handed, and the grooves are carved in for left handed fingers. There is a small area at the top of each pencil to write your childs name on the pencil, so if they get left lying around, it is easy to see who it belongs to.The colours of the pencils included in this set are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and brown. The pencils come in a flip wallet package, that the pencils can be kept in if your child doesn't have room in their pencil case or doesn't have one.The pencils are made from wood from a sustained forest.Overall, I think it is a good set of pencils, but there are only 6 and I think that even at the current reduced selling price, it is still a little high, for just 6 colours. I am appalled that the original price for these was over £8! I think that these are worth around 50p per pencil at most, so £3 would be a fairer price and I think the majority of the price is because of the brand name.

Some inventions just work. Myth has it that whilst the Americans spent thousands on inventing a pen that would work in zero gravity, the Russians just took pencils. The humble colouring pencil just works, it does not discriminate between a righty or a lefty as it is as equally plump and round for both. This has not stopped Stablio from suggesting that they could be better for either hand. The 'Easycolors Ergonomic' pencils are your typical high quality pencil from Stablio, but with added cuts in the side. These fit the side of a person's finger. The left handed slats will lean the other way to a right handed person, so you should get the best for you.It does all seem a little gimmicky, but for the very young that struggle to hold a pencil well, the groves do help. Older children and adults will just use them anyway without really caring about the gaps. The good thing about these colouring pencils is that they are bright, well made and strong, so they do not break easily. You may want to think about just getting a normal set of pencils in this brand as they are a good one, but if you do have a child struggling to hold their colouring pencils well, these may just be the key to help them develop.

The Stabilo Easy Start pencils (12 pack) contains a set of really good quality pencils. The colours are really vibrant, and they even include a more natural 'skin' type colour, which my daughter loves using for colouring faces. The pencils are shaped in a manner that lends itself most easily to supporting either a left or right-handed style, so be sure to choose the correct set for your needs.I will admit that I wondered whether the cut-out edges of our left-handed pencils were really any better for use with a lefty but, being able to write with both hands, I can confirm that it definitely feels more comfortable in my left hand - I think it is to do with the way that the non-slip grip mouldsare lined up.The triangular shape of the pencil helps even a young child to hold on to their pencil, and the additional space for them to add their name will surely impress most children. The pencils slot into their container, and are held in with a little clip. The set also comes with a sharpener that is also ergonomically designed for left-handed use.Overall, I think that the Stabilo Easy Start Pencil Set is a great product, and I would highly recommend it.

These aren't a gimmick these have shaved grooves which enable proper tripod grip by slipping the fingers/tips into the right position to support and grip the pencil. These are AMAZING for children struggling with fine motor and well worth the cost.My 5 year old is both ambidextrous and has fine motor issues with grip, she's small for her age and has always struggled with fine motor so pens and pencils sometimes frustrated her to tears and she would end up getting angry and fist grip to colour despite our efforts. We tried several different developmental products from stabilo but recently with the right handed set and for the first time ever enabled and guided her to tripod grip something she has continued without guidance when using those pencils with her right hand, but she has tried the same pencils with her left to less success so these are a godsend to help build her left grip as I know from my father, grandmother and mother in law his lefties can struggle with grip anyway. Not a gimmick, not a marketing ploy (like pens for girls/boys would be) these are genuinely brilliant and helpful to support children struggling with early writing skills.

These EASYcolours colouring pencils, by the well-known German stationery brand Schwan-STABILO, are designed to be ergonomic for right-handers and are great for use by school kids just starting out, but many art-students and adult artists may enjoy using them too. The pencils are triangular and feature non-slip grip mouldings for comfort and ease of use making it very easy to learn how to hold them correctly. These twelve colourful pencils are suitable for sketching, colouring-in or drawing and come in a card pack wallet that is not really designed to keep them in so you will probably also need a pencil case to keep them safe when not use. The pencils are made from sustainable wood and are supplied with their own pencil sharpener. We have obtained some attractive results when using these pencils and at under eleven pounds for a dozen currently from Amazon they are decent value for the quality and fun, although conventional pencils are cheaper. There are also STABILO pencils designed especially for the left-handed so make sure you get the ones that are most suitable for the recipient if giving as a gift.

Really nice colouring pencils for children. The colours have a lot of pigment and they're chunky so easy to hold. There are only 12 colours in the biggest pack so not a huge variety but enough to keep the little ones happy. The leads can also take quite a bit of pressure so don't break easily under enthusiastic colouring. The pencils are thicker than normal pencils so it's very handy that they've provided a sharpener with this set.The pencils are ergonomic but as usual with these sets from Stabilo, I'm finding the "Left-hand" and "right-hand" marketing to be a major gimmick. The children in my house have no issues using them even though the pencil set I received is marked "R" and the children are all a mixture of lefts and rights. However, they all agreed that the pencils are comfortable to hold and very nice to use.So in conclusion, these colouring pencils have a wonderful weight and chunkiness for children. They're comfortable to hold for *either" hand and sadly I have to take off a star because I think they're woefully overpriced.
