It is such a simple thing and beautifully crafted. It is heavy for its size and I feel I need to be careful not to bang it down on my granite worktop. It grinds about half a dozen or so peppercorns brilliantly but I've found if I overload it with much more it isn't so effective. In which case I'm better using the large pestle and mortar I have. Traditional pepper (and salt) grinders never seen to last long. So I'm hoping this one will and with no moving parts I think it will.

This has been useful when wanting to grind small amounts, and also when recipe advise to take the ground spices to the table for additional sprinkling as the lidded top is a perfect solution.
