I bought this teleconverter new, for mounting on a Sigma Macro 105 mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM. Sigma only guarantees the optical and mechanical compatibility of its teleconverters with a small number of its own lenses. When fitted to a 1.4x converter, a lens will lose one stop of light. Maximum aperture for this Sigma macro lens is reduced from f/2.8 to f/4, at infinity focusing. The focal length increases to 147 mm on a full frame camera and closest focusing distance is increased from 312 mm to 450 mm.The build quality, fit & finish of this teleconverter rivals the Nikon TC-14e III, which retails for close to £500. Remarkable, given that this Sigma 1.4x variant sells for £225.This Sigma converter attaches to both macro lens and camera body securely, with a confidence inspiring precision. This converter demonstrated full and faultless communication between camera body & lens. The consistency achieved with auto-focus speed and accuracy in low light and low contrast situations is surprising. A lens directly mounted to a camera body will always outperform a setup with a teleconverter. In this case, not too much of an advantage is given away and I am surprised at the number of successful shots captured. This 1.4x teleconverter produces great image quality. The high level of resolution that this converter is capable of was unexpected. I suspect in part, because the master lens is a high quality prime. Colour and contrast are pleasingly & accurately reproduced while chromatic aberration and distortion seem very well controlled. There is also no visible vignetting. A much more detailed and greatly magnified inspection of raw 45MP images will no doubt reveal the shortcomings of using a teleconverter, but these are to be expected. If I wanted to nitpick, the only quibble with the Sigma TC-1401would be its lack of environmental sealing. However, taking into account the performance, build quality and comparative low price, this issue can be overlooked. In conclusion, this teleconverter is a keeper and will now form part of my permanent photo equipment. Concerning its limited lens compatibility, it’s just as well that it offers the very rare combination of great performance and relatively affordable price. Thoroughly recommended.

I have two nikon camera's, a d7200 and a d800, the d800 just couldn't autofocus with the sigma 150-600 contemporary but the d7200 worked like a star and could lock on like a bulldog even in low light at maximum zoom F9, the 150-600 without calibration is likely to cause issues with focus but if you pick up the usb dock you can calibrate it at 16 different point's instead of just one in the camera, mine ranged from plus 10 to minus 8 through the zoom range so now my images are fine enough that a bit of editing brings them out extremely well, birds in flight are possible but they're hard work, hares that were 30 yards away fill the frame so the loss of detail is so minor i'm not worrying, autofocus speed is virtually identical to not having it on the camera, low light at F9 it still works fine, with the cropped sensor on the d7200 I dropped the EV to -1.00 which gave me good results, I handhold the 150-600 and I would say 8 out of 10 are keepers, i've got hours of editing ahead of me because I shot so many hares etc that are keepers not because the image quality required loads of work on each shot. Would I use it every day? probably not but i'd definately have it with me and wouldn't be worried about the quality, basically well worth the money

I am using this converter with a Nikon D7200 SLR camera and a Sigma 150 to 600 mm C lens. Its very well made and fits the Nikon body and Sigma lens perfectly.I have been testing its performance . The Nikon 7200 now Auto focuses at F9 and at maximum zoom you get an equivalent of 840mm.The Auto focus is slower but not horrendous by any means. AF can jump a little out of focus sometimes at maximum range in busy backgrounds but in good light settles down.It does autofocus well though for stationary/slow moving targets and at maximum zoom impressive.Picture quality has been sharp through the zoom range. At maximum zoom I have been impressed by how sharp some of the images have been even at around 1600 ISO.I am finding that in use you will get some nice smooth backgrounds because the depth of field is greater. I have not seen any aberrations in my images to complain about as a result of using the converter. Its a good piece of kit.I would recommend using it with a Tripod and my choice is to use a Gimble head for greater stability.

For its cost it is a very worthwhile Accessory to have in your camera bag. The image quality is excellent. However you have to realize that it will perform differently on every camera you use it on. Auto Focus capability is limited too on my camera it locks the aperture to F9 and only allows for spot type AF.Manual focus is a breeze. Because of the AF limitations I cannot see much use for moving targets unless you are very adept at keeping the dot right on the subject . Overall good value , great results are possible but beware of its limitations.

Lost my first one. As before, this TC works perfectly with the 150-600mm Sports on the Nikon D7500 ( and the D5500,D7200, D610,D800E ) It does of course slow down the AF a little and you do loose some light ( 600mm + TC 1.4= 1275mm f9 on DX), but overall the picture quality and Sharpness on the D7500 (DX) is astounding, excellent. No issues. Even in continuous mode a series of 3fps you get 8 out of 10 pics focused perfectly with an moving object. But that probably really is pushing it.

I bought this item as an add-on to my Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens. Being a keen, but very amateur photographer, I wanted the additional range which this brings (840mm) for nature photography. I have to say I was not disappointed. Providing you use the higher F-stops - F16 and above - this produces excellent results, even at extreme zoom with little or no aberration as far as I can see.Well worth adding to the Photographer's Bag.

Wanted to shoot the blood moon, since I may not live to see the next one! Used this with the Sigma 150-600 Sport and was very pleased with the results. I'd previously used other teleconverters and had been unimpressed. This one was good. Sure it reduces the effective aperture, but unless you're shooting in almost complete darkness, it does a great job.The attached pic came from a Nikon D810 with Sigma TC-1401 and Sigma 150-600 Sport.

I have this in the Canon mount and works well unless you purchase for the wrong camera like the previous review and give 1 star for generating an order when you obviously have no right to operate heavy machinery..... :)

Tend to use this with a sigma 150-600mm sport lens and really pleased with the quality of the images I get with this combination especially after a bit of fine tuning using the USB dock.

added to Sigma's 150-600mm lens this teleconverter creates a superb very long lens suitable for all sorts of outdoor pursuits with wonderful close-up effects for wildlife.

A much improved version from the apo version obviously what ever yo stick in front of the sensor will reduce sharpness quality but would recommend the 1401
