When my business started using more than one PC (even though it's just me running and operating it), I bought this in an attempt to separate my business files from my Windows Home Server (WHS) where they had lived for years, albeit mainly as a 2nd backup to a laptop. The most concerning thing is the speed; it sits on the same network platform as my WHS, yet the initial move of just 2GB of files was an OVERNIGHT job, and accessing even the smallest MS word file is a bit slow, although far more bearable. This seems to be a common problem reading other (non-amazon) reviews. The other issue is that MS Office temporary files seem to build up on the server without being removed. So,every now and then I have to delete them all my hand, every time worrying I might be about to 'break' something. The built in dynamic DNS server is flaky and I have never managed to get it to work. I know my network is fine as I use bit torrent etc... with no problems, and have been able to remote to my WHS for years. The built in web access via seagate.com is atrocious for serious use, but does work, so might get you out of a hole at a clients house etc... when you just need a single file and you know its name and location. Finally, it keeps asking for a 'driver' as a device under MS Windows 7 64bit, even though it is network attatched and no such driver is needed or is available for this OS. This notification which comes for MS Win7 seems impossible to turn off, but does seem to go away for weeks at a time. Again, seagate are aware of the issue, and don't intend a fix. Even a 'dummy driver' to shut up W7 would be welcome. All in all, this seems a needlessly poorly performing product, which I am stuck with for now, but just as tempted to move the HD to my WHS and take a chance...

Bought the Seagate NAS 110 to act as a central file server for 4 computers used by a local charity. The server lasted a few days over 1 year and then suddenly refused to give access to the files with a message about ".... network path not found error ....". I could still access the files via FTP but not via Windows (XP) network. A quick Google search revealed I was by no means alone with this issue and no one really seemed to have a solution. I tried resetting the server, then a complete Factory Reset (wipes all your data) but all to no available. So now stuck with a pile of plastic junk just out of warranty and having to tell the charity that they will have to fork out for another server (not Seagate this time,or ever again).
