Loving dice and discovering these - I just had to have some!I stumbled upon a video on YouTube where this game was being demonstrated by the inventors. (I'd never heard of it) At first, like most people I guess, I was a little sceptical as to whether it would be the success it appeared it could be when I actually came to have a go myself. We're all a little shy I guess, and so the thought of rolling random images on cubes, and then having to `link' those images up to tell some kind of story (which could easily be nonsense - depending on what was rolled!) sounded a bit embarrassing to say the least... However; I thought I'd give these a go; not least because I love games involving dice (and these are nothing but dice with images instead of numbers, and so were so appealing to me) and also the fact that the people I saw playing with them seemed to really to be enjoying themselves!Having ordered my set - I couldn't wait to received them I was so eager and ready to go - and I wasn't disappointed! The very first throw, gave me quite an amazing set of images that I was fortunate enough to be able to think of a `link' without too much thought, which was good, as I would think a bad set of images on the very first go might influence newbies into thinking this may not be a good idea - but as it was, because of my good experience, in the very first instant my confidence and imagination had both `fired'! I then was surprised yet again when introducing them to my partner, who doesn't really enjoy dice games as much as myself, and who I thought would be pretty hopeless at it - proved to be much better than myself!Okay; they are a little expensive (and dice always are) but they ARE excellent quality (and so they should be) they come in a very neat little box with a magnetic fastener, and there are `expansion' sets. All in all a VERY good product; a challenging and imaginative game that I think is good for both young and old alike, and particularly for elderly people, in that it would be a great way to be sure their minds remained active!Five stars for a wonderful, useful and enjoyable little idea!

I bought this set and the 'voyages' set for my 6 year old twins as they enjoy stories. My first impression when they arrived was 'it's smaller than I thought it'd be' on reflection that's a really stupid impression as it's 9 dice in a box, what was I expecting, it to require a team of 4 postmen to deliver it? The dice are really good quality, nice and weighty with the pictures etched onto the faces. The pictures on the dice in this set are a different colour to the pictures on the other set I bought so it's easy to sort them into the right box.In terms of the imagination benefits for my children I've seen the same picture used to mean different things eg. a picture of a ring has been a ring,a wedding, a hole. In the short time they've had them since Christmas the stories have got better as well eg. they began as: a BEE went on a PLANE to a CASTLE and there was a RING... and now the same pictures used in the same order are give a story more like: a BEE was too tired to fly so it went on a PLANE to a CASTLE where there was a WEDDING betwwen a king and queen...There's currently a 3rd set called 'actions' and I'll definitely be buying that one to add to the 2 we already have.

These are brilliant. I bought them to give to my 3-yr-old son, but really they were for me because I was running out of inspiration for his bedtime stories. He loves them so much that I can use them as bribes (I can't fit nine images in at every bedtime so we normally have two or three) so if he's exceptionally good he's allowed to roll another cube. You should see the angelic behaviour this treat prompts... The threat of being allowed only one or two if he's naughty is pretty useful too. They're also great for travel: we can take an important part of his bedtime routine with us in a pocket. We only use them at bedtime at the moment but I can see how they will develop in usefulness as thechildren grow older. He loves them so much that every time I ask what he wants to give somebody as a present, he suggests these. They've even beaten "a train track" and "chocolate" in the competition for pressie suggestions!

I bought this and the orange 'first' set for my twins as they enjoy stories so I knew they'd like these. My one concern was that as this is an expansion set it might not work on it's own so whoever ended up with this set wouldn't get the most out of it unless some dice were swapped between the sets. I needn't have been concerned as the pictures on these dice cover everything and aren't just places to go and modes of transport to get there. The dice are good quality weighty dice with the pictures etched on the faces rather than just printed on and one small detail I particularly like is that the pictures in this set are a different colour to the other set I bought so when they get mixed up it'seasy to sort back into the correct sets again afterwards.A word of warning though at bedtime I've been asked to read them a 'dice story' rather than a book so it's given my imagination a work out as well as theirs!

If you're not already a fan of Rory's Story Cubes, prepare to be converted! Such a simple idea, but beautifully executed. The dice are nicely heavy in the hand: children really want to roll them. The storage box is also superb quality: you know that it'll last you for a long time.I've used these dice (and the other two sets available) in the classroom to inspire story telling and with my own children to occupy them on journeys. Sets can be shared across a class, with each group/table having different ones, or use a visualiser to show the same dice to the whole class. They will each interpret the pictures in their own way. Simply superb for shared writing or poetry.Think of something for each letter of the alphabet that fits the rolled image(s) or tell a story as a random die is chosen and rolled, or add another item to the list that gets ever longer ...Lovely dice, with countless uses :-)

Bought these for my daughter's 7th birthday as she has a very busy imagination and loves reading stories, making up her own and having them made up for her. She liked them a lot and played with them perhaps a little too much initially which meant that, for her, as one other reviewer has stated, they did get a wee bit limited as she couldn't come up with too many different permutations from the same pictures so the novelty wore off quite soon.We had a wee break from them for a while and now get them out a little less regularly just to keep it fresh. It's even more fun now as our 3 year old son can also join in with us and that puts another little brain/perspective on the case which turns it into quite a hilarious game for us all.I just love that we can sit round the table with these, get the creative juices going and have some quality play time. Would definitely recommend.

I first saw these cubes used in a classroom with a group of primary school children who used them to tell stories. as soon as i saw them being used, i knew that they would be a brilliant thing to have to use when working with children and young people in a huge variety of contexts. i have used these story cubes with children as young as 3/4 right up to age 18+.The images on the cubes are brilliantly designed as they are clear and easy to understand as well as leaving space for the children to use their imaginations to explore other meanings. These are a brilliant tool to have available for anyone who is working with children or young people and might need to help those people express themselves, explore different themes or use their imagination. Brilliant product. Highly recommended.

I bought these to add to the box of original story cubes as they were so useful, now I have made two mixed boxes which work even better. I'm an English language teacher and these are absolutely brilliant. I use them with children and adults and no matter their level of English they work great. We use them in lots of ways - team games/timed stories/ written/spoken/themed/using different tenses, all combinations work. If you are a teacher they are a life saving resource - if you have these they can save you if you have to unexpectedly take over someone's class or you haven't had time to plan or you just want to liven up students at the end of a busy week. Most importantly, whatever the situation,it makes students speak!! Whoever thought these up is a genius!!!

This game was recommended to me when I was taking part in a webinar on activities to use in my English classes (I'm a high school teacher). I took a gamble and bought a set and my learners thoroughly enjoyed this game. No two games are ever the same. I would recommend watching the YouTube video that was made by Asmodee with the creator Rory explaining and demonstrating how to play it.On the downside one of the cubes has a learner plate "L" on it which was a bit confusing for my learners, because I live in Taiwan, but I just said they had to use a word that begins with the letter L.For Christmas 2020 I bought a set for my elderly relatives, a set for my parents, and a set for a teaching colleague.Everyone loved it when they played it.

This well made cubes are of the same excellent quality as those of the standard Rory cube collection and have that same weight and feel that says quality. The cubes themselves can be used on their own or they can be used with the standard set by replacing 3 random cubes from the standard set. It adds a new dimension to the story telling giving the stories a more science /science fiction twist. Great fun for all the family as even the youngest child can take part in one of humanity's oldest past times...story telling. Although I'm not sure seated around a campfire in your living room is a good idea unless it's a mock up :DI thoroughly recommend these and the others in the Rory Story Cuberange.

Purchased these a while ago for my daughter. She loves them and even uses them to help with homework stories! Recently she joined a drama group and took these along to one of the sessions, the trainer was intrigued as he hadn't seen them before and is now purchasing for the group to use when making up a new story to act out.We have other sets too - once you have the original you can get additional sets which just make it even more fun. We take these with us when going away or out for a meal (along with a card game) as cannot stand seeing families who sit at a table staring at electronics - a) you're a family who should enjoy time together and b) this makes for some fun family times!

I got all 3 of Rory's Story Cubes to as a teaching aid for teaching adult students English. The idea is brilliant, the cubes a nice weight, the packaging excellent. However, coming up with a storyline is not as easy as you would think. I suspect it would be easier for kids to create stories as they allow their imagination to run free without great heed to logic. Adults however will find this harder as they will be more reluctant to tell weird and whacky stories...so good for kids....as part of a drinking session...but probably not the best for for language teaching as students would need a number of sessions before they got into the swing of things.

This consists of 9 cubes, each with a different image on each of the 6 sides, enabling you to create a unique story on each throw. The images are open to personal interpretation as certain ones could be seen as a couple of different things.Very compact so perfect for days out and holidays as they can just be put in your bag or pockets. Expansion packs are also available but we haven't tried these as yet.Absolutely fantastic for our 8 year old who we think is dyslexic. She can play on her own or we can all join in and make it a family game. Great for imaginative play, and keeping children quiet.I can see why they have won so many awards.

This is the 3rd of a set of 3 main blocks of 9 Rory's Story Cubes....I have brought all 3. There are also 3 add-ons of 3 cubes. This is a fantastic concept and great fun. A brilliant mind expanding learning tool that will keep young children, parents, Aunties and Uncles and older children's minds active. Each cube has 6 sides (obviously!) and on each facet there is a picture like a tree, cat, rain, flower, dinosaur etc....One Throws all the 9 dice and the 9 images that are showing on the top surface allow you to think up a story. The are thousands of combinations and the add-ons allow expansion. Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Very happy ?

I wish I had known about these earlier! They are one of the best toys/creativity aids that I have ever seen, and I also wish I'd had them as a child. I have always found it difficult to invent stories, and now I have a child, I think they will help me to have fun in this regard. We played with a few friends as soon as we opened them, and we had so much fun, we kind of got stared at in the restaurant where we were playing. They are unique, useful, fun, portable (the size of a thick wallet perhaps), and well worth every penny. We loved the idea so much, that we also bought the 'Voyages' and 'Actions' sets to go with the originals.
