Delivered to my local post office inside 24 hours and I never use Prime! It's working fine on USB3 backing up thousands of photo files as I type this. See the photo and note that the power unit has a continental plug! I think that's disgusting for Amazon. Luckily I had a conversion plug and this has done the job but as I think Amazon may be breaking the law and a lot of the cheap adaptors for electric razors etc are too wobbly to use on this kind of kit. Now a warning that could cost you money or dissappointment. If you are thinking of installing a couple of discs from an old PC they may not have the pluggery fitted on current machines. Current HDDs have just two sockets about 27mm and 12mm long.Older bigger units may as well go into the crusher!I hadn't considered this but luckily I also bought two new drives. However I hadn't given any thought to the need to pre-format new discs and this can be a messy time-consuming niggle as they must be pre-formatted BEFORE fitting. This is possible with most current desktops as there is usually a spare pair of connectors in the wiring harness you will find when you take off the side panel. (Be sure to shut down and switch off before going into the PC and only attempt this if you are sufficiently competent). My Windows 10 didn't recognize a new disc and automatically offer to format it and I had to find the way myself via Control Panel > Storage Spaces where you should recognize your disc in Storage pool and select 'no residency'. It should take only a couple of seconds to format a new disk. If you can follow all that and can get a unit with the right power unit it is probably a good deal.

Nice little box and fits in well with my media centre but does tend to cause boot up issues if left in standby mode. Got two new 2tb hard drives and any new drive requires partitioning and formatting before your system will recognise the Icy Box, of course Windows makes the process overly complex and hard to find stock software but a little Googling will show you how. Once all setup I backed up over 100 films using free software called "Bart" and it did a great job in around 30 mins, box connected to USB 3. My only gripe is the boot up issue, just booted up with the box in standby and the PC froze with no desktop icons, forced closed PC and turned Icy Box off and PC then booted normally. This is following a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit, it may be my fault but no idea why, it's like the PC is trying to read and locks onto one of the drives. No big issue for me as only using this to back up video, ebooks, photo, music etc so will only turn on when need to do this. The good point about Bart is that you can setup custom backups with dedicated colour and it does not duplicate only saving newly added. The build is OK, nothing mind blowing, but does have protective film covering shiny bits that's a bu**er to remove.tj

Love this item.I decided to buy an enclosure to hold two 3.5 HDDs for my Home Theatre PC. Did my research and settled on the IcyBox. Have to say - I'm glad I did. What a quality bit of kit this is - looks lovely next to my Home Theatre PC and looks very sleek. I've had compliments off other tech-savvy friends who think it cost twice the amount it did.My PC runs Windows 7, and it had no issue finding the enclosure - there's no drivers to install or anything like that, it's just like plugging in a USB stick. I've got 2 x 2TB drives in it - WD and HGST - and they both achieve very good write speeds over USB 2.0. I've tried it on USB 3.0 as well and, as you'd expect, the speeds are blisteringly fast. The fan isn't as noisy as some would have you believe - probably as noisy as a laptop, if that. You can also turn the fan lower if it bothers you. I personally have it on the middle setting and it's barely audible. It's solidly built and it's very easy to take drives in and out, although you'd want to buy more handles for it to be truly hot-swappable.My only gripe is the USB cable supplied is a little shorter than I'd like, but this can be easily rectified by buying a longer one.

I have waited a few weeks before sharing my experience.I HAD previously bought 2 units from Orico. They refused to play ball with me.I have recently purchased 2 of these Icy Box enclosures and I am extremely happy.I have 4 x 4TB drives, 2 Western Digital went into one unit and 2 Toshiba drives went into the other unit. All 4 work like a dream ... from the start.NO messing around setting them up as they already had data on them.I left the cooling fans on Auto ... NO PROBLEMS.NOT noisy at all and only the unit with the Toshiba drives in occasionally goes to second setting.Does all this seem too good to be true? The only down side is, in my opinion,as both units are identical you cannot choose which unit to safely remove.Would I recommend these units?YES, whole heartedly. Not only that but I will be looking to transfer ALL my hard drives into similar units..Thank you Icy Box for a perfect product.

I've so far found this a decent, quiet external drive housing that runs cool (fan 'auto' not above first notch yet with two drives on board). The only minor caveat to be aware of is that the provided power supply has a 2-pin European (squashed hexagon) plug and no adaptors are provided. You'll need an appropriate adaptor for UK use and beware that shaver adaptors will be unlikely to work since a) without a recessed socket they don't support the adapter adequately b) this power supply will blow the 1-amp fuse in most shaver adaptors and a 3-amp fused adaptor is needed. I also had to disable the 'sync'(?) feature using the dip-switch on the back to avoid disk removal warnings from mac-os when the Mac went to sleep - the drives still sleep as expected but remain powered. However - overall pleased.

Nice looking kit that appears well built - except one of the hard drives when fitted, although fully working, waddled a bit, but this was easily cured with a spongy draft excluder stuck on the case cover, and softly wedging it. Reports of the fan being noisy - on auto and setting 1 have found the noise very low, other setting yes it's noisy, but I don't have the box connected full time so fan speed so far always low.Goes into sleep mode automatically and can take a few seconds to wake up.It allows hot swapping, but as you have to connect pull handles to the drive, this is not as instant as could be. At least one spare handle set would have been good,so you could prep the drive your wanting to swap in.

Small compact unit measuring about 7" H, 4" wide, and 10" deep approx. Came very well packed, with USB 3 cable, two disc handles, power cables, small fixing screws (for handle), small screw driver and an instruction manual. Discs were VERY easy to fit - simply fix on handles (2 mins), open front of bay, slide in disc, close door and link USB cable to PC. I use Windows 10 and this recognized the disc instantly. I used a 6TB Toshiba X300 disc and this worked fine. Unit will work fine with USB2 as well as USB3 - obviously USB2 will be slower.Note: This is NOT a RAID unit - I use it for additional disc space not as a NAS drive.Very pleased with it - and at a good price.

I have now been running this external bay for 18 months without issue, a previous model (different design) Icybox let me down due to poor construction of the connectors but this item has been faultless. The fan is near silent and only noticeable if you are very very close to it, the front door hinges open nicely and the two 3.5" drives are secured without any need for tools. The system will power up and down with your PC, the drives stay acceptably cool even when reading and writing data for extended periods.

Had this device now for almost six months and have had no problems, it works flawlessly and the fan is very quiet (or it is when on speed 1), haven't used it yet in Raid configuration, so can't comment how well that works, but using as 2 single drives works very well. The only niggle I have is that when I initially formatted the drives after formatting the first drive it dismounted, requiring me to reconnect to my PC, but apart from that very good and would recommend.

What a great little box! Looks nice and tidy on the desktop and is small enough to hide behind the monitor. It does exactly what it says on the tin. Read and write speeds are reasonably quick and the box is solid and well made. My only minor gripe is that the supplied USB 3 cable is quite short (1m) but this was easily rectified by buying a longer one. 2 3tb drives installed with no problem an immediately recognised by the PC and the hot swap works perfectly as well.

Should have read more about this before ordering. It does jbod but its jbod single not spanned. Put 2 drives in and you have 2 drives visible to the PC not one combined drive. Seems you need the raid capable types to do jbod spanning and at that price point it is cheaper to buy a large USB external drive than recycle 2 smaller drives into an enclosure.Returned as doesn't fit my need but it looked reasonably well made.

This is probably very dependent on your use case but for me with the fans set to Auto they stay on fan speed 1. My drives are a 3TB Seagate Barracuda and a 3TB WD Black. For me, the noise of the drives spinning is louder than the actual fans in the unit. Great purchase if you're looking to free up space by removing your HDD cage!

I've tried various external disk caddies in my time, and none of them have the quality feel of them that this Icy Box does. It may be a little more expensive than some, but it's very much worth it for the quality you get. It's whisper quiet in use, quick to activate, and even puts itself to sleep if you turn the computer off.

-Looks good-Feels solid enough-Very easy to slide drives in & out-Soft rubber feet to reduce vibration-Fan can be a bit noisy on full whack & I'm not sure how effective it is. It's easy enough to take out though, might have to buy a better 60mm myself

Great little box, simple to use just add the bracket to the drive and slot it in. Usb speeds seem to be good ranging from 70 - 100MB/s through put over usb. Very quiet as well, hardly notice it's on other than the lights on the front.
