I have had one of these installed for 18months now - it sits on my mac mini in Raid 5 mode with 8x2TB discs installed which gives me 6Tb of usable storage. It was a seamless install, disks take seconds to fit, easy to configure and plug into PC or MAC and I use it through the Mac to to back up all the family laptops, store all our music and movies centrally, stream movies to TVs/laptops in house etc. What prompted this review is it just did its job...One of the four 2TB disks failed, the boxes little red lights lit up, to tell me which disk had failed and I took the disk out and checked it and sure enough it wasn't happy so I put a new 2TB disk in,turned the box on and the box proceeded to immediately and automatically rebuild the raid 5 disk set with the new disk.It took it a few hours, not sure how long as I left it overnight but this morning the array is back online and I have lost no data, so it might not be the cheapest little box but its damn well worth having to avoid the stress and hassle I've had in the past with single enclosure external discs failing. For me this is the best solution to avoid the pain and anguish of losing that precious data you have at home.

I bought this as an alternative to a much cheaper non RAID enclosure which had to be returned due to failing twice in the first three weeks that I had it and wish that I'd chosen this one first. It's simple to set up.... just put the drives into the slots and use the control button on the front of the unit to configure your RAID preference. There is also a control to vary the fan speed but as I don't have it on for long periods I have left it in the default position. There are also warning lights/alerts if a drive becomes liable to failure....good touch. In use it's also simplicity itself. There is an on/off button on the front and start up to mounting takes less than 30 seconds allowing you to then access your folders & files almost immediately. It's very quiet....you can't hear the drives working and being Firewire 800 transfer speeds are quite fast. 910 gb took around 9 hours which I thought was good. The door to the drive compartment is a bit sensitive to touch and comes open if it's touched too firmly, but really that's not a problem as the drives are contained behind another locking door.Do I like it?...Certainly and recommend it whole heartedly.
