(Updated) Patch notes at the bottom.I'm just copying my review from Xbox one here in the hopes it'll be helpful to PlayStation users, so ignore all the Xbox stuff, also I don't know the differences of this game on PS4 Vs PS4 Pro.Rage 2 has been one of my most anticipated and awaited games this year. I have fond memories of playing the first and being immersed in the landscape and it might've been my first post apocalyptic shooter. My excitement grew even more discovering Avalanche Studios was helping develop the title. I absolutely loved Mad Max and was one of my favourite games, delivering stunning landscapes a fantastic theme and immersive atmosphere.I spent dozens of hours completing every location and getting every achievement in the game and once I got the last achievement I put the controller down and stared at the screen, upset my adventure had ended. If you like open world exploration and fancy a mostly desolate post apocalyptic world then pick up Mad Max.So how does the long awaited sequel hold up several years later? Well….it's a mixed bag if I'm honest. I bought the digital deluxe edition on Xbox and since I bought it after release I missed out on the preorder bonuses but physical copies could have it packed it but don't take my word for it. I also can't really talk about the deluxe edition content as it's expansion hasn't been released yet. It also includes the BFG, but I have not idea how/where to get it.I'll start with the good, there is tons to do, if you want something different and can't afford to buy every new game that comes out I'd say this could hold you over for awhile. There are several activities across the map and some of them are done in a interesting way, for instance shortly being after let loose to explore the world I saw a meteorite in the sky crash down, I go to it and it has a valuable resource for unlocking upgrades etc. Another example is driving down the road then a ship warps into view and drops a sentry which is a large stationary cannon keen on murdering you. You can tell they brought some of the influence of Avalanche Studios as they include some of the activities used in Mad Max like convoys and in some locations you blow up fuel tanks. The environment has had a major change compared to Mad Max and Rage, here regions will be different, one may be mostly desert, another in dense jungle, while one area is a swamp, this does change the experience and the variety of environments and colours does enhance the experience. There are several useful upgrades to the character like a chest locator which was great as I occasionally had spent more time looking for a chest than I had clearing out the enemies. Exploration is a blast especially if you enjoy going over the map from location to location. There's no shortage of enemy dens and that means there are several great areas for the next awesome shootout. Gameplay and combat are awesome, the powers and abilities you get can enhance the experience depending if you use them or not, to be honest I don't really use them much I tend to just shoot everything. There are tons of upgrades to your character spread out across your vehicle, weapons, equipment, abilities, and individual upgrades. The game is simply fun, you have elements of Mad Max, Rage, and sometimes even feels like Doom when your swarmed by mutants in a tight area. Now for the bad, for starters I find the phoenix talking to you annoying and the cars handle like s***, but the weakness here is that the game wants you to use the phoenix as it's the only car you can upgrade, unlike the magnum opus where there were upgrades to the handling, it's absent here and it's a shame because the phoenix desperately needs it, if your following the guided path to an objective you have to be alert, the brakes and turning are dreadful so chances are you'll either skid past your turn or the turnings so wide you crash into something or venture off road. Next although some guns are fun and unique, sadly the upgrades are pretty much the same, like extended mag or faster reloading, armour piercing rounds etc. I feel they could've capitalized on the weapon upgrades to make each gun useful and serve purpose because as it stands there are weapons I don't even touch because I don't need to and they aren't unique. I find myself really only using the assault rifle and shotgun as it's really all you need for handling close range and distant targets. I'm also disappointed from the various ammo types that were in the last game and absent here which is a step backwards and was a feature I liked. Then there are bugs, several in fact, there are characters in the game who sell information to the player about ark chest locations and arks I think, well one of them I can't talk to to buy the information which is annoying. Another is when I'm going through the menus sometimes the cursor won't move or will only go side to side instead of down which is also an annoyance and happens very frequently. I have also had glitches with activities, I was walking around completing things on the map, went to a meteorite location and it wasn't there, no enemies no meteorite, there was smoke and the map said it hadn't been completed, I thought oh well and wandered off to another location which was a sentry, I get there and nothing once again. Upon closing and reloading it fixed itself, I've only encountered this once. The lighting in some places and quite odd, in Gun Barrel you go down an elevated in the center of the town you get the noticeable lighting and atmospheric change and once again when you enter the sewers which is only a few steps away from the elevator you just got off and you'll notice it a few times while playing. The story isn't really strong, and lore I assume is delivered from logs that you'll find and collect along the way, personally I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but oh well. A major thing that has wound me up is the fact I bought the deluxe edition, yet the game is not registering my purchase for this extra content but I'll be getting in contact with Bethesda to get this sorted. There are other things as well but Bethesda are planning to release a patch this month that will hopefully fix a lot of these issues, I'll also mention that my wife is also experiencing some of the issues I am so it's not just a one off glitch like I hoped.Overall, I do like elements of the game, the combat and exploration are fun and honestly sometimes gets my heart racing, however the bugs and issues need to be worked out as they take away from the experience. I feel this is a worthy sequel and is worth a playthrough. I'm not sure if it's worth the purchase of the deluxe edition however, as there not really much immediate benefit to purchase because really all you get is the BFG and a progress booster, but I think if you activate it it prevents unlocking achievements (I don't know because it's not registering I own the content). Perhaps it would be better to check out some other reviews buy the standard version of the game see if you like it then down the road but the expansion of you want. Although I'm annoyed about it not registering my extra content I wanted to support the developers who worked on this game and I'm glad I did, I just hope these issues will be resolved in the future as I imagine others won't be so lenient as I have been. I've also been playing on the Xbox One X and from my understanding the difference between standard and the X is 30 Vs 60 FPS and I think the resolution is 900p VS 1080p on the X. It may not be the biggest difference between the two and it won't be the best looking game but still good, but if all you care about is graphic and resolution i personally think you're playing video games for the wrong reasons. I've got some pictures of some shots in the game as well as evidence (screenshot of a YouTube video with registered content) that it's not registered my additional content.I'll update this review should I want to mention anything else and update on the patch that is meant to resolve some issues in the game.Hopefully you found this review helpful and have fun blasting mutants to bits.Patch notes - these were taken directly from Bethesda's website. Hopefully if you watched or read reviews online and heard complaints hopefully these note mention a fix, it's quite a long list. (updated) Patch notes at the bottom.Rage 2 has been one of my most anticipated and awaited games this year. I have fond memories of playing the first and being immersed in the landscape and it might've been my first post apocalyptic shooter. My excitement grew even more discovering Avalanche Studios was helping develop the title. I absolutely loved Mad Max and was one of my favourite games, delivering stunning landscapes a fantastic theme and immersive atmosphere. I spent dozens of hours completing every location and getting every achievement in the game and once I got the last achievement I put the controller down and stared at the screen, upset my adventure had ended. I've got some pictures of some shots in the game as well as evidence (screenshot of a YouTube video with the content registered) that it's not registered my additional content.I'll update this review should I want to mention anything else and update on the patch that is meant to resolve some issues in the game.Hopefully you found this review helpful and have fun blasting mutants to bits.Patch notes - these were taken directly from Bethesda's website. Hopefully if you watched or read reviews online and heard complaints hopefully these note mention a fix, it's quite a long list. After spending hours upon hours of playing this game, and as I near the final mission in my playthrough I feel the need to offer my opinion of the game.Never have I enjoyed a game as much but at the same time felt quite disappointed. I remember when the first Rage was released back in 2011, that game in my opinion received harsh criticism despite being an overall fun game to play (I won't talk about the ending). I always felt Rage deserved a sequel and finally after so many years we finally got one.So my overall opinion of this game is very bizarre, I enjoyed it but at the same time I felt let down.I'll be blunt here and say that this game relies heavily on side activities. In order to advance in the story, you will have to complete side activities for your 3 allies. When you reach a certain Level for any of them, a mission will be unlocked for them. The 3 characters are as follows;John Marshall - His side activities include taking defeating Bandit Dens which requires you to kill a camp full of enemies. Mutie Nest's which pits you to destroy a certain amount of hatching pods while being chased by psycho's who are trying to stop you. Lastly Crushers, who are basically big ogre type of enemies that you will be required to kill.Loosum Hager - Her side activities include destroying Authority Turrets, which is basically as you would expect. This is 1 big long turret that is trying to kill you. It has an array of abilities such as rockets, a laser and a mortar. Taking over Roadblocks, this is guarded by enemies who are blocking a certain road. You will need to take out the enemies there so the road can be clear to drive through. Pit Stops, which require you to kill enemies and destroying a certain amount of Fuel Tanks. Lastly Recharge Stations, which requires you to activate a pylon and defend it from onrushing enemies. In some particular cases there is more then 1 pylon you have to defend.Doctor Kvasir - His side activities include entering Arks. These Arks contain special weapons, however in order to access any Ark, you will need to fight your way through to get there. You will need to find Ranger Echoes, these are basically downed enemies who have been killed in the past, you will need to find their dead body and confirm it. Lastly their are Feltrite Meteorite, these are usually shot like a rocket from the sky and can be randomily shot anywhere on the map. This Metorite comes in the form of an asteroid that has feltrite embedded in them. These feltrite can be used to upgrade your character's skills. However you will need to kill a couple of enemies who are guarding the Metorite. So as you can their is different side activities on offer and you will need to complete a majority of these in order to unlock story missions. For example you need to be Level 10 for all 3 characters to unlock the last mission, so if you want to reach that part, you better get cracking with the side activities. Now here is where I feel let's the game down, there is only 8 story missions and these can be over in a good 20 minutes or so. Because of this, it feels like the story plays 2nd fiddle. You enjoy a story mission and have to do a plethora of side activities to reach the next one. It kills any sort of momentum in my opinion. However despite this, I can honestly say I've thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The gameplay is very fun and it's even better when you get your hands on the better weapons. This is why I would advise people to not overlook the Arks for Doctor Kvasir. These weapons could prove crucial in certain situations, I know it certainly helped me.Also feltrite plays as important role in this game. If you want to upgrade your character and improve his performance and skills, your gonna need feltrite. These can be found anywhere in the Wasteland.MutantBashTV also returns to the series, however it's role in the game isn't significant. Apart from being integrated into an early story mission, it really has no use apart from earning extra cash and is completely optional.Overall I am going to give this game a 4 star rating. Gameplay wise it is an absolute joy to play, the combat and taking down the enemies in droves and not get bored is the highlight for me. Also the many different activities you can do so their's a variety of different things to play rather then just 1 of the same.Pro'sFun combat system, even better when you have access to the better weapons.Fun Side ActivitiesMap Variety - Each area has their own little charm, none of this copy and paste BS.Driving in the Wasteland- Feels enjoyable driving and exploring the beautiful landscapeConsLack of Story Missions - 8 story missions that can be over in a good 20 mins or soOver-reliance on Side Activities - This is to compensate for the lack of story missions.Main Antagonist (General Cross) - Tries to come across a badass when actually he really doesn't.If you're a fan of the "grind" and want to earn your way to the end game, plus you enjoy side activities also then you will like this game. However if your one of those people who just want the story and couldn't give a damn about the side activities then I would suggest giving this one a miss.

Rage 2 is in my opinion a good game, obviously it has its gripes what game doesn't, but for people to say its a terrible and boring game is unjustified. I have worked in the game industry and what has annoyed many developers and staff including myself is how many reviews come out on YouTube with out giving a proper try there are so many youtubers that have played this game and many others for like 30 mins and then a review in which games nowadays the tutorial last about half an hour. When gamers listen to these reviews and repeats what they have been told, puts off other people buying, the developers and the gaming company lose money and these people spend hours a week in some cases as mentionedin the news they do like over 100 hours a week and don't see their family as a result I was in such a role so it pisses me off when people play like 30 mins and leave an unfair review, finish the game and then do it you have given it a fair try then. There are games I have played and I hated and I have platinumed them and completed them 100 percent. I have over 40 platinums for ps4 and every game so far I have platinumed Including this one and It was very easy, there wasn't any challenges that annoy you to hell like seikero die twice, game is vast and colourful, graphics is engaging despite being running on 1080p non hdr but gameplay is smooth. Give it a try story is okayish but combat is engaging and addictive.

This game is not intended to be a deep, detailed RPG, its is a really high quality first person shooter. Its a close rival to Doom 2016 and will keep me more than entertained until Doom Eternal comes out. If you want a well designed fun shooter, this is it. I have seen negative reviews but they seem to be from people who expected a Fallout clone or did not take time to learn the game mechanics in Rage 2. Everything in Rage 2 has been well thought out. The guns, the combat and the enemy AI are all excellent and the shootouts are really entertaining. Using some of the weapons and power ups just had me laughing out loud. This game rewards aggressive run and gun tactics and that is where it really shines. If you hang around the edges of a combat sniping you will have a dull time. Similarly if you want a detailed RPG you will be disappointed because that is not this game's aim. This game has a decent story which is intended to move you fairly quickly from one fast moving fun combat mission to the next. It also has plenty of side missions if you want to extend you time with the game or get all the extra toys. If you want a really entertaining professionally done shooter with a fastmoving story and excellent combat, rhis is it, biy it. If you want to spend your time agonising over managing NPCs and which to do next of the 25 missions you have open, you probably want something else.

Ive given Rage 2 4 out of 5 purely for its gameplay alone. This game was a joy to play as an fps its one of the best i have played the guns work and feel briliant Id say they are on par with the likes of halo and destiny which are the current bench mark for me as bungie are kings of thr fps genre in my opinion. The abilities you unlock make the gane realy fun aswell there are so many combinations to tackle the enimies with.Where the game lets it self down quite badly which seems to be a pattern with bethesda of late. Is the lack of story and the very forgetable charecters with in it.It has a very short campagin which is higely disapointing and is set in a massive open world which feels very empty and dull. Not sure why every game developer feels the need for every game to be massive open world these days.I feel going foward bethesda needs to start doing what it used ro be good at. Making hames with engrising storys qell written charecters. Adding in factions you can join and making chiices in their hames feel like they matter. I feel rhis coukd of bin a far better game if more time had bin put into it.That all being said if you can get this game when its in offer its a great pick up and play game where you can loose yourself for a few hours and like I said ot does play and handle very well.

Edit: loses a star from the sound muting itself completly occasionally, and there are even game freezes/lockups, but when it's behaving it's still a good game and my review below is still valid.I like this game, especially as its Easy mode suits my ageing brain (I'm 58 and not got the reactions these days; mind you, I was never great at first-person shooters, and now I'm even less good!). A nice big map, lots to do - once you're past the really quite long intro/story-setting bit and are off into the countryside.Oh, and it's probably best to avoid getting involved in the little skirmishes you find along the road; they just waste bullets, can be bad on your health, and they just regenerate when you're away from them anyway.Only worth getting involved in if you want to nick their car or are after their meagre supplies. Plus it might be worth turning on the subtitles if you want to get the maximum out of the story, as some of the dialogue is quite fast and there's a lot to take in.

I was really looking forward to this - a real shooty fun blast - but at first was underwhelmed. However as time goes on, I like it more and more... to the point of loving it. The real progression here is not the story or the main missions or the locations in the wasteland that have been ticked off your todo list, but the constant unlocking of new abilities / upgrading of existing abilities. You do this all the time. The more you unlock/upgrade, the more fun it gets. At first you can't just storm in to Bandit Dens and start blasting; you have to be quite sneaky and careful. But as you gain abilities, you can storm in and start getting creative with your kills (like BulletStorm). My favourite is batting grenades right back at the throwers. And once you unlock the gyrocopter and the Danny Dyer voiceover pack, you start to have a crazy fun time.

Really fun open world shooter. Loved the first Rage so was looking forward to this. Pleasantly surprised in a lot of ways but disappointed in others. Story itself is very short and straight forward so you are encouraged to explore the quite large world and complete tasks such as clearing camps, finding fallen soldiers etc. Doing so unlocks lots of ways to upgrade and improve the gameplay but upon doing so I found the game far too straightforward and easy! It is nice being overpowered but missed the challenge. I would recommend if available cheap and you want a fun gunner, but don't expect a masterpiece. I like the way Rage has gone but needs improving. Hopefully they will with Rage 3?

Fun fun fun. It plays and looks a bit like Doom and Borderlands. I’ve read that the game is too short, it isn’t! I’ve been playing it since release and as long as you don’t just focus on the main campaign and you go off the beaten track in search of bounties, side missions and collectibles there are hours of fun to be had. Graphics are crisp and scenery is ever changing in a apocalyptic world from swamp lands to ruined cities. It is a very addictive game, not to be taken too serious and is best enjoyed as a video game, which is what it is! I think this could be a contender for me as a 100% completionists gamer as you just don’t get bored, very addictive.

Such a good game, plenty to do and lots of ticking off things to get our destroy. Graphics are superb and vibrant. Okay downside is this game crashes more times than Evel Knievel, sometimes the sound goes, or the game just freezes up. I understand there is no support from Bethesda either about this so you have to restart your console and hope it works. Wanting to play this game till the end I stuck with it and finally made it. Such a shame coz it spoils the enjoyment but that's the way it is Ranger. Still worth getting if you can put up with all of that, I did and it's a right good play. As they say you pay your money you take a choice.

Played this game 3 hours and oh my god what a fun it is! Fantastic gameplay and combat, great sound effects and music, don't remember when did I enjoy shooting everything so much. Nothing wrong with the story, driving and open world is ok, wasteland is maybe strangely colorful but in my opinion it makes world less boring. Bear in mind that this is action shooter more than rpg or driving game. So far I like everything what I've seen and I'm glad that I didn't listen to bad reviews and bought this game (from different retailer with £10 discount on the release day). For me - best game released this year so far.

This game is great, have been looking for something to fill the gap since completing RDR2 and this is doing the job. Had tried Days Gone but quickly got bored constantly looking for petrol so traded it in and bought this, it’s easy to play and does get harder as you get better. Some reviews saying it gets repetitive, I understand what they are saying but it’s really good fun so think of it as and relatively cheap so give it a go! Rarely make it to my intended destination without a couple of distraction missions.
