I needed to add more storage to a QNAP TVS882 and bought this on the understanding from various sites that it simply plugged to the existing unit and provided the means to add additional discs to the existing storage.Sadly though this is not the case. I found it was necessary to set up the expansion unit as self contained storage pool in its own right, meaning I had to use 3 discs for some RAID protection rather than the single disc I wanted to add. QNAP advised the reason was that, even if it could be connected as I intended, the risk to the RAID integrity with a USB connection would be significant plus the whole unit would become slow, being restricted by USB speed.

Does the job, but wish I had paid more attention to the specification before ordering the TurboNAS (TS563) and this item, as there is only one way to connect expansion enclosures, and thats via a slow 5Gb/sec USB3 connection. I've now reconfigured my setup so that the expansion enclosure (this item) is the TimeMachine backup.

Works brilliantly. Fast product. Filled it with 8TB Seagate archive drives. Raid build time on the drives are slow but that's not the fault of the unit. Once the raid is built, the Seagate drives work great in a raid 5 with fast read/wire times

Excellent addition to the Qnap NAS I already had.Loaded up with some HDD and plugged in..Seamless space - brilliant.
