Like all polymer clays, super sculpey can be cured in a conventional home oven. It never dries out and is reworkable until cured. Which is great for projects that take a long time, as oposed to air drying clay, which has a limited working time.I used to use super sculpey, the normal pink / beige one, but found it to be a little translucent. Which made fine detailing very difficult. The firm grey however is opaque, and the firmness much better for carving and shaping fine details. The main issue I've had with this product is varying consistencys in the firmness of the clay. It should be quite 'stiff' to work with, most of the blocks I've had have been ok, but I've had some that have been very soft and sticky. Thus very difficult to work with. I've even found the consistency vary within an individual block.I've since discovered that the soft clay can be firmed up by placing thin sheets between layers of paper to leach out some of the oils. Which is a bit of a pain, and waste of paper, especially when part way through a sculpt.Super sculpey is one of those materials that I'm still learning about, and learning how to get the best from it.A couple of tips ive learned, that aren't on the packaging... Your can add new sculpey to baked sculpey. A very thin smear of Vaseline helps the clay to stick, and acts as a 'glue'.99% rubbing alcohol can be used to smooth the clay during the sculpt. It slightly dissolves the surface of the clay, and if worked with a soft brush can remove imperfections like fingerprints and tool marks. If you find the firm clay a little too difficult to work with, it can be mixed 50/50 with the normal super sculpey, for a medium blend. Sculpey do actually have a medium blend available, but i am yet to find a uk stockist.Overall its a great clay to work with, and there's some fantastic work being created with it, just look on Google.

This 'Firm Grey' Super Sculpey clay purchase is the result of the 'Beige' clay being a little to soft for my liking - although a nice clay also.I am trying to clay very fine detail in small figurines and with little experience or know how I really can appreciate what a fantastic clay this is. The extra firmness does make it much easier to work with to create detail and cut away what you don't need.I've used clay that you have to keep wet in the past but I found out late about Super Sculpey and gave it ago. The freedom to just have this clay out in the open and play around with it as you please is a very bizarre experience - it doesn't come sealed in the box so that's all you need to know how nice and firm it stays. There is no mess and it doesn't get clogged up on your fingers.Oven baking various pieces I've been working on has been a breeze, on a very low heat (exactly as it says on the packaging) for 14 minutes I think and that's it. I've been laying my clay bits on tin foil directly in the oven and that produces results perfect every time. It's just a little smelly (hardly smell anything) with a fine odour when in the oven but should be no problem with anyone in your household.

I admit I am very new to using polymer clay I ordered 'firm', I practiced with the clay to get a good feel of the flexibility. I have mixed firm with my original white sculpey to give myself a more medium consistency- has worked wonders and is not so tough to push ad pull about! Though I can see how firm really holds its shape well.I would recommend this clay if you have a harder touch and are use to working with denser materials, or to mix with another polymer clay to create a more suitable clay for what you're working on. For the future I am happy I'm now more informed on the sculpey brand, and am aware of hardness variantsMy Sculpey box did come to me unsealed, the box was flapped open but the outer postal box had protected everything, so no harm done to the quality of the clay.I know that this clay will be addictive as they are lovely to work with.Overall brill quality and fast delivery, cheers!

What can you say? It's Sculpey and it's one of those 'does-what-it-says-on-the-tin' items. If you're not familiar with sculpey, it comes in different forms - soft or hard and the hard is much harder than Fimo but in other respects similar to use: it doesn't have the same colour range, it tends to come in pink or grey but colours are available too. The Sculpey organisation treats things in a different way because it's meant to be a sculpture student product though it's quite capable of providing a good medium for serious sculpture... so their support info isn't aimed at a toy and trinket-making audience, but rather more towards artists, both professional and amateur. It's good stuff. The hard version takes a bit more kneading and then it's perfectly workable. It cooks in an oven the way FIMO does.

When i got the Sculpey it was very, very dried out. Rock hard. Almost as hard as a brick. I had to soften it down and the process is not anywhere near easy on the hands and it is quite time consuming, due to the fact that i don't own a pasta machine. But after softening it with some oil i can say i'm pretty pleased with it. Holds details exceptionally and rakes do wonders with it. But it is also sort of crumbly when smoothing it down with my fingers. I recommend a 50/50 mix with Super Sculpey Living Doll. This way it's softer but still hard enough to get good detail. But even as is i can say it's a very good sculpting material. As long as it's not dried out to begin with.

This is by far my favourite Sculpey polymer clay. As I make highly detailed sculptures it has just the right firmness to allow the very fine level of details my sculptures demand. And yet it is very easy to work with. A few passes through my pasta maker and it is soft enough to start working with. If you plan to make simple, low detail sculptures you can probably go with just about any of Sculpey's polymer clays but if you, like me, want a high detail finish Sculpey Firm will make the process a lot less frustrating and give you a much more enjoyable experience.

First time using polymer clay, takes a bit of manipulation but is soon very malleable and easily smoothed. Great for detailing and fine fur texture. I used on both a realistic dog model for a friend and small stylized christmas ornaments. Worked out great! Once fired in the oven easily painted. Fine areas can be brittle once fired also.Bear in mind if the clay is not sealed for several months it will dry out and you will have to use mineral oil/ baby oil to rework it.

I decided to buy this after getting inspiration watching YouTube experts at work. I found it a bit dry at first, although kneading it for a while does help. I later picked up a tip from an expert that using a little Johnson’s Baby Oil makes it much more malleable and easier to sculpt finer details. With this in mind I will definitely buy this again, even though the price has gone up by about £7 since I last bought it.

I've just started using the Firm and it is by far superior to using the Super when it comes to detailed figure work. The price is always a sticking point but alternatives to the product are few to none. The key is to be accurate with your tinfoil bulking, in doing so I've been able to stretch 1 pack of this to make 2 ten inch figures, so you can get a good return on the cost.

This stuff is professional grade. You can't get better than Super Sculpey. It's good for painting on, and you can mix it with other colours but really I don't see the point. It's a good buy if you're a newbie too as it's a big solid chunk that will let you play around lots and get the feel for it. It also holds detail far better than the 'soft' FIMO stuff, for example.

Excellent clay for sculpting fine details and master models for casting. It's deliberately firm, mans will soften when worked - but doesn't have the stretch of softer polymer clays. That is how it holds tool marks. This is a professional level clay and not for beginners or casual model makers. If you want detailed sculpts, this is the clay to go for.

I've used Super Sculpey Medium and Firm. I definitely prefer the firm. It takes a bit more time to condition and mould with the hands to get to the right consistency, but is very good at achieving the fine details I need in my work. It's the only polymer clay I would buy now. Highly recommend!

Clay arrived quickly. Very workable too, as I know some clays harden in storage. To note this came in the new seal plastic (which is better) than the cardboard box shown in the listing. The plastic kept it super fresh :)

Difficult to use on it's own but works well with SuperSculpey. When blended, produces a mouldable clay which is easy to sculpt fine details in to. Doesn't pick up fingerprints like some softer clays.

Love using this product. I started off with the softer version and although it was good I wanted something a little more firm to hold details and this works a treat. Will be getting more.
